the correctional facility in smyrna where inmates are holding hostages in cell block c. 19 inmates were released with an injured guard so he could get medical care. two other hostages including a woman are being held captive. negotiations are ongoing. wednesday night, the big story is the latest on the hostage siege at the james t. vaughan correctional facility, delaware's biggest prison. it all began at 10:30 this morning when inmates called for help. dann cuellar, christie ileto and john rawlins are covering this evolving story. john, let's start with you. four hostages taken, two released. where do we go from there? >> it's a fluid situation. i have heard that phrase a lot

today and still applies. the governor continues to be on the side of safety of the delaware employees two remaining hostage in the sprawling prison of 2500 inmates. whew it's been a long and difficult day. >> the governor and top staff explaining what occurred shortly after 8:00 p.m. with dramatic release including a dozen inmates and one staffer inside c building. >> one staffer was released prior to our arrival along with 18 inmates of the at this time there are still two staff members held in charlie building. >> the hostage taking began at 10:30 in the morning. the first hostage was released early afternoon. >> we can't speculate on the motivates at this time. >> asked if the hostage takers

wanted phone lines to call outside the prison -- >> we are working on the negotiation process. i can't expand further at this time. >> officials wouldn't say how many hostage takers they believe there are, if they have weapons or have made threats against the hostages. >> jim, authorities say in part they are not talking freely about some topics because they assume hostage takers can hear everything said on t.v. johnd channel 6 news. they are demanding better conditions inside the prison. we heard chilling distress calls of employees held hostage. >> i'm bleeding out. i need medical attention.

loved ones that work at the prison and are fearing for their safety. >> a second correction's officer was being wheeled away on a stretcher. moments later an ambulance took him to the hospital to be treatedded for his injuries. like the other guard taken to christiana hospital, the injuries are nonlife threatening. who you is the guard at christiana? >> he's doing okay. he's hanging in there. >> you think he will be released at some point tonight? >> i don't know yet. it's too early to tell. >> meanwhile, there was a slew of vehicles on the road in front of the prison. colleen's husband is a prison guard. >> i'm waiting to hear if he's okay. we don't even know if he's hostage right now. >> such was the uncertainty as authorities focused their attention inside the prison in a

searched rugged land to find the body of this marine. now they find themselves on delicate territory after the victim's mourning family decided to rescind the reward money. >> our motto is, we hope to god you never call us. we are trained and ready if you do. >> for canine search and rescue, the frantic call came early december by clemington police. authorities needed their expertise to find james lance who went missing december 2nd. >> we are a hundred% volunteer organization. the family was raising $5,000. the description reads in part, any information provided that directly results in finding lance will be rewarded with the funds raised from the go fund me account. several vol volunteers jumped io action scouring the land in the
