the boyfriend got in a rage, got into his car and then mowed down the girlfriend and a man who was standing with her. he then fled the scene. "action news" was here as the male victim was put onto a stretcher loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital with injuries to his head and legs. the girlfriend also suffered injuries to her legs and was put on a wheelchair and also taken to the hospital. pieces of the silver car were scattered about here on the street. now, the boyfriend and his car have not been located. meanwhile a woman was placed in handcuffs and taken to southwest detectives for questioning. at the moment, that's all we know as we wait for investigators to sort this all out but again, police say man fighting with his girlfriend gets into his car and mows her down and a man that was standing with her here in the 5900 block of locust, both were hospitalized at this hour. the boyfriend who fled the scene is still being sought.

we're live here in southwest philadelphia, i'm dann cuellar channel6 "action news." back to you, rick and monica. >> dann thank you. it was an emotional day in delaware during what should have been a celebration. today the corrections officer killed in this week's deadly standoff was posthumously promoted and given one of his department's highest honors. >> today floyd's legacy was celebrated the same day that dozens more corrections officers began their careers and "action news" reporter bob brooks was live in dover with that part of the story. good evening, bob. >> reporter: rick and monica, it is such a hard time for so many down here in dover at this grieving process -- as this grieving process begins for everyone involved in this. the ceremony was held behind me here at the department of corrections employee development center as the investigation continues top figure out how the inmates were able to carry out this horrific attack. commissioner perry flips present steven floyd jr. and his brother-in-law the medal of valor on behalf of his father fallen corrections officer lieutenant steven floyd. lieutenant floyd was the corrections officer who died when inmates took floyd and three others hostage on wednesday at the prison in smyrna. the medal was given to floyd's son during a ceremony for co cadets who completed initial training. you can see by the huge turnout many were here to show their support for the floyd family and that they did with another huge round of applause after the commissioner promoted floyd to lieutenant. [applause] >> reporter: "action news" was there as floyd was moved from the medical examiner's office in wilmington to the evan smith funeral home in dover. he was draped in an american flag and saluted. it's been a horrific three days for the delaware corrections department. floyd was one of four hostages taken by inmates. union representative jeff clop says lieutenant floyd was nothing but professional. >> i can guarantee you one thing. steven floyd treated inmates fairly and if inmates didn't want to follow the rules, they

suffered the consequences. >> reporter: points the blame of this on a lack of state funding. >> there were cuts. we have less correctional officer positions now across the state than we had in 2008 when governor markel took office. >> reporter: okay, now we're still waiting to hear the cause of lieutenant floyd's death. also, in less than an hour, there is a candlelight vigil set for 6 o'clock to honor lieutenant floyd. it's being held at the smyrna municipal park. for now reporting live in dover, bob brooks channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, bob. turning to accuweather a brisk chilly day today across the delaware valley looking live right now at the center city skyline from our camera at temple university tonight. not an easy day to be out and about unless you were all bundled up. highs hovering just above freezing today. how long will the cold stick around? meteorologist cecily tynan at the big board with the forecast for us. hi, cecily. >> hi, monica. it feels like winter again after a somewhat springlike start to february.

wednesday's high 50, yesterday 48, today philadelphia own orange line 35 degrees. that's 6 degrees below normal reason felt quite a bit cooler when you factor in the winds. the wind chill right now is 23 degrees in philadelphia with those winds out of the west, so if you are heading out tonight t-you really do want to bundle up and like most of the days this winter, shrouded in clouds today. satellite6 and action radar showing pretty good veil of clouds over us but what happens overnight? we have high pressure building in. so, this actually will clear out the clouds but it will also allow temperatures to drop to pretty low levels. so, if you're out on the town on this friday night with the clearing skies, it is going to be getting even colder. at 7 o'clock, 31. by 9 o'clock, 28. by 11 o'clock, 26 degrees. overnight low 22. but you factor in even just a bit of a breeze, wind chills will be in the teens overnight. as we look ahead, this cold shot will be brief. it lasts the first half of the weekend. i.

tracking a big warmup the middle of next week. that comes with rain and then behind this system another blast of cold air. i'll have all the details coming up in the full accuweather forecast. rick. >> cecily we'll check back in later. thank you. raids respect under way across paris tonight after a terror attack was thwarted outside the city's famed louvre museum. the attacker was shot by soldiers outside the museum before he could hurt anyone. roughly 1200 people were inside the louvre and its underground shopping mall at the time. police say they believe the attacker is of egyptian origin and they're looking for anyone else who may have helped with the attack. he's at a hospital in critical condition. the museum is set to reopen tomorrowly. >> philadelphia police have released video of a man they say stole an suv with a baby inside. the video shows the suspect carrying a child safety seat with a 19 month old in it. police say it happened about 5:30 thursday night near eighth and mckean. they say the child's mother left the toyota rav4 to grab

the child a toy but that's when the suspect hopped in the vehicle and drove off. five minutes later the child and the car seat were dropped off unharmed a few blocks away at ninth and emily. the missing vehicle is a teal 2014 model bearing pennsylvania tag jmt4312. and a 25-year-old man has been arrested accused of fleeing police with a four month old child in the vehicle in delaware. new castle county police say officers tried to pull aaron mills over on february 1st but he fled. they say at one point he got out of the car and ran. detectives issued tasers and arrested him. the child was later found in the vehicle uninjured. mills faces several charges including resisting arrest and reckless endangerment. >> from our new jersey news room tonight investigators have released surveillance video of the moment a man was hit by a car in a parking lot in a wal-mart store. the video shows the 35-year-old victim outside of the wal-mart on the unit black of nassau park boulevard in mercer county. investigators say he was heading to his car yesterday

morning when he was struck. the unidentified driver left the scene but was later found by police. investigators believe the victim was targeted. >> after we identified the individual behind the wheel through a lot of investigative leads, located where he was, and actually waited for them to come home to that address. >> mills ferguson is charged with aggression assault a the victim was taken to robert wood john ton know hamilton for nonlife-threatening injuries. >> a report shows evidence of cadet cheating and instructor misconduct at the pennsylvania state police academy. cadets in the academy are subject to several written tests over six months of training. the 47 page report from the inspector general suggests that instructors or current troopers often allegedly gave cadets test notes, test answers and answer codes. the report also found most of that test content did not change for several years.

state police officials said they're waiting on approval to institute a software program that would create unique tests for cadet classes. also new at 5:00 one pal state representative is pushing for a compromise after his plan to honor vice president joe biden went south. state representative kevin hag tea wanted to name a bridge here in scranton after biden to honor him and his hometown but one problem, the bridge was already named for world one vet colonel frank duffy two years ago. now hag tea says he wants to name it the biden duffy bridge to honor both men. >> time for a check of our "action news" traffic report friday night. >> take at this time live to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. >> hi, guys we're heading into the weekend of the big game. getting home on a friday night that's always sort of a game. we'll try to help you make some good plays. first one i would make is not using the schuylkill eastbound at this point if you can avoid it. we've got three separate accidents, one by the conshohocken curve jamming us up coming out of king of prussia.

hollywood avenue. we've seemed to have lost our shot from chopper6. the 600 block of hollywood avenue, a hazmat situation. firefighters are investigating exactly what happened, some type of smoke escaping from the business. no word of any injuries. we'll keep an eye on the situation in cherry hill new jersey and bring you the very latest. in other news, the mexican drug kingpin known as el chapo appeared in a federal court in new york today. joaquin guzman was transported to court in heavily armed police vehicles. he's already been convicted in mexico. now he stands accused in the u.s. of running a massive drug smuggling operation that laundered more than $14 billion. he's also charged with conspiring to commit murder and operating a continuing criminal enterprise. prosecutors say guzman faces a minimum of life in prison if convicted on all counts. >> today marks go red for women day a time to raise awareness about heart disease in women and to honor that occasion the american heart association is teaming up with

lankenau hospital's heart institute to hold a heart smart health fair. one local mom today holds extra importance after a scare she had over the holiday. >> that's for sure. health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman has her story tonight. ali. >> reporter: hi, guys. you may think you know what a heart attack looks like, someone clutching their chest in pain but nearly half of all heart attacks especially in women don't have those symptoms. they're called silent heart attacks. >> it started off as nausea, vomiting, sweating, chills. >> reporter: 35-year-old markita davis thought she had food poisoning. she ignored it until she started having pain in her jaw and her chest. >> i put my hand there and feel major pumping. >> reporter: a family member called 911. markita finally realized she was having a heart attack when they gave her an aspirin to chew in the ambulance.

>> i'm too young. thought i was going to die. >> reporter: she did have some heart damage and needed a double bypass operation. dr. vincent figereto of einstein medical center says women seniors and diabetics are more likely to have heart attack symptoms that aren't typical. >> such as the worse flu you've had in a long time indigestion beyond what you normally feel, a muscle pull in your back that just is nagging. >> reporter: women often dismiss the warning signs. on average, they wait 54 hours to seek care while men wait 16 hours. >> that can have devastating effects as far as their ability to recover from the heart attack or even survive the heart attack. >> i hope you're okay. >> reporter: markita is regaining her strength with the help of her biggest supporters, her sons. and she's looking forward to working again. but she's learned an important lesson. always listen to your body.

[cheers and applause] >> stocks ended the week on a high note today following a stronger than expected jobs report. the dow jones posted its best day of the year so far. according to the u.s. labor department the unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a points to 4.8 percent. experts say 227,000 jobs were added in december but more americans were also looking for work. the dow jones rose 186 points before that closing bell. the nasdaq ticked up 30 the s & p 500 grew 16. the company behind the social media platform snapchat is getting ready to go public. snapchat's parent company snap has filed for a $3 billion initial public offering or ipo. the app allows users to share up to 10 second long videos which disappear after 24 hours. there are doubts about snapchat's profitability though. it's unclear when snap will begin trading on wall street. >> the archdiocese of philadelphia is gearing up for its 42nd annual rice bowl.

it was a blessing and kickoff event this morning in kensington. rice bowl is a way for people of all ages to respond to human suffering through compassion and action during lent. all of the money inside the bowl goes to catholic relief services. lent begins on march first. [cheers and applause] >> in delaware students were getting ready and excited for sunday's super bowl. saint mary magdalene school in talleyville held a rally for alumnus paul worrilow. tonight. >> meteorologist cecily tynan with a look ahead at the week ahead. >> we're starting outweigh chill. live on sky6 take a look at spring mountain where a lot of snow borders and skiers are out. if you're going to be skiing tonight or tomorrow you really do have to bundle up. it's pretty cold out there. especially when you factor in the winds. the wind chill right now makes it feel like 23 in philadelphia, from 25 in atlantic city, 20 in allentown and it feels like 19 degrees in reading and you also may have that noticed a lot of static cling, very dry skin. that's because the dewpoints are extremely low. they're below 10 degrees and they're in the single digits so we have that bone dry arctic air but because of that arctic air and high pressure building in, we will see the return of a good amount of sunshine tomorrow. it will be nice because satellite6 and action radar showing lots of clouds out there. if you look very closely almost looks like some flurries are moving in but with that really dry air in place, that moisture is that not getting to the ground.

it's evaporating but on the flip side, as we fly out across the pacific northwest, you can see another very strong low pressure that's moving in there bringing some heavy rain and some mountain snow and this really has been the pattern all winter long. we have a big dip in the jet stream out to the west and that means the sierra snow pack, the highest it's been since 1995. it's measured 173 percent of normal and this is great because the extreme drought across the entire state, they've been in an entire drought it's dropped from 64 percent to just 2 percent. looking better for california with all that rain and snow. it will be a dry night overnight low 22 in philadelphia, allentown 16, wilmington 20 and cape may 23 degrees so wind chill tracker showing tomorrow despite the sunshine it's going to be bitter cold. at 7 o'clock that wind chill 13 degrees. by the afternoon, wind chills

still in the mid to upper 20's. and then kind of a flip side. we warm things up on sunday but it clouds up as well. so, if you're heading to the poconos to ski with rick, it will be very cold tomorrow, 25 degrees. still trying to get him out on the slopes. the wind chill five to 15 degrees and sunday a few snow showers possible, the temperature up there up to 32. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow bright sunshine but breezy and cold. afternoon high 36. wind chill stuck in the 20's. sunday clouds, some late sun, 45 degrees. could be a flurry up to the north. monday partly sunny 46. then temperatures climb but it gets wet. tuesday periods of rain, 48 degrees. wednesday 58 but with rain perhaps some thunderstorms and very high winds behind that system cold air returns for the end of next week. adam will talk about that in the seven-day forecast, guys. >> okay. >> thank you cecily. we'll take a break. change how business is done on wall street. details straight ahead. emergency responders rush to a delaware county home after a car suddenly ends up on the front porch and how much will the defendants in the center city building collapse have to pay the victims of that tragedy? that is the question jurors are facing now since the penalty phase is under way. first though we have breaking news out of cherry hill, new jersey and chopper6 over the scene here where officials are dealing with a hazmat situation and a fire. you see fire trucks there as well as emergency responders. this is the 600 block of hollywood avenue. firefighters got the dual a business here in that block about 30 minutes ago at 5:30. they found smoky conditions inside the building. they don't yet know what is causing the fire. they're in there checking it out and we have not been told what has did you say materials are contained inside or the name of the business but again, a hazmat situation has brought firefighters and emergency responders here to cherry hill new jersey, the 600 block of hollywood avenue. no word on any possible

injuries inside. >> ♪ >> in washington tonight, president donald trump continues to make major changes during his first 100 days in office. today he imposed fresh sanctions on iran for recently launching a medium range ballistic missile. before the announcement, the president blasted america's longstanding adversary saying "iran is playing with fire. they don't appreciate how kind president obama was to them. not me ." stephanie ramos is live from washington tonight with more on that plus several more executive orders signed today. stephanie. >> reporter: that's right, rick. well, today president trump he started the process to get rid of an obama era financial rule watered down one already in place and backed up some of that tough talk against iran. president trump at the end of his second week in office is slapping iran with a fresh set of sanctions. the trump administration warning iran after they tested a ballistic missile.

>> today the u.s. sanctioned 25 individuals and entities that provide support to iran's ballistic missile program and the islamic revolutionary quds force. >> reporter: they didn't violate united nations resolutions or iran's nuclear deal with world powers. this new action hundreds the individuals and companies from doing any business in the u.s. or with americans. >> today we're signing corporate both regulating the united states financial system. doesn't get much bigger than that, right. >> reporter: trump in the oval office signing more executive orders. this time on finance regulation. >> this is a big day. trump calling for a crackdown of the dodd frank act crafted by the obama administration and passed by congress in response to the 2008 financial crisis. the orders an effort to loosen rules on banks and other major financial companies. >> despite all this overreaching dodd frank did not address the causes of the

financial crisis. >> reporter: the white house now embracing unemployment numbers from the labor department, a reversal from a campaign trail days. >> 227,000 jobs, great spirit in the country right now so we're very happy about that. i think that it's going to continue big league. we're bringing back jobs. >> reporter: with new iran sanctions in place and more than 50,000 visas being restroked comply with mr. trump's immigration other president this weekend heads to florida. he'll sit down for the traditional super bowl pregame interview from mar-a-lago. in and washington stephanie ramos channel6 "action news." rick back to you. >> stephanie thank you. fewer than 60,000 foreigners from the seven countries listed under the new ban had their visas canceled following president trump's executive order. people traveling from iran iraq serial sudan somalia libya and yemen are blocked from entering the u.s. for at least the next 90 days.

officials with the state department say after the review period, those visas could be used again. they also do not expect the number of revoked visas to rise. >> ♪ >> now to an important consumer alert. you may not want to open a rear window if you are driving a nissan altima. the company's recalling more than 34,000 mid-sized cars in the u.s. because the doors might swing opened if the rear window is lowered. that recall covers altimas from 2015 through 2017 model years. nissan says the latch and lock cable in the doors may not have been routed properly at the factory. the company will notify owners about a recall within the next two months and dealers will make the repairs for you. in world news tonight with david muir we'll have much more on this nissan recall as well as new sanctions against iran and president trump's latest executive orthopedics you can watch all that following "action news" at 6:00. >> in other news pennsylvania's top prosecutors say tips are pouring in about a disturbing sexual crime that

may have more victims. attorney general josh shapiro is asking the public for information about a ring of men who allegedly prey on young boys during parties at which they dress up as animals. so far five men have been charged in connection with the alleged assault of a 13-year-old boy but officials say they have reason to believe that more men may have assaulted more boys. the men in custody who police say identify as furries are from different parts of pennsylvania and virginia. at least one of the alleged crimes happened in quakertown. in clifton heights delaware county emergency responders are trying to figure out what caused a driver to lose control and end up on a front porch o the suv even damaged the front of the home here on west broadway avenue. neighbors tell "action news" they saw the driver swerve jump the curb and then crash. no word on any injuries. >> a 22-year-old man is fighting for his life after he was shot this afternoon in chester delaware county. this the scene along ninth street near pennell just after

3:00 p.m. officers arrived and found the victim lying on the ground with several gun shot wounds. he was rushed to crozer hospital listed in critical condition. so far police have no motive or suspects in the casely. >> opening statements got under way today in the damages phase of the 2013 deadly building collapse in that center city. the same jury hoop found the defendants liable in the case must now decide how much they'll pay the victims and their families for their pain and suffering. "action news" reporter vernon odom has more pritchett back in court today all the lawyers for the plaintiffs and the five defendants found responsible for this infamous 2013 building collapse that crushed the salvation army thrift store at 22nd and market killing seven people and naming 12 others. tuesday a civil court jury decided the five principals who played a role in the june 2013 disaster will have to pay damages. the biggest targets here, the salvation army which lost a store and two employees. because it ignored warnings of danger and a potential

collapse by the adjacent four story building that was being demolished. the salvation army has the deepest pockets nearly $15 billion in assets and annual revenues nearing $3 billion. next in the blame line, richard pastian no, sir, the 91-year-old new york city real estate mogul. he hired a cheap inexperienced and contractor to do the demolition work. next philadelphia architect plato marinakos injury jr. hired by bostiano. the two men found least responsible for assessing damages contractor griffin campbell and excar vader operator sean benschop. both are serving long double terms. yesterday the naacp joined campbell's family in calling for a new trial. >> basciano and the architect were well aware of the impending dangers. this is a miscarriage of

justice any way you slice this cake and we're demanding that griffin campbell have a new trial. >> he was following orders of the architect. he was devastated. and he still is. >> there are literally millions of dollars at stake in this penalty phase here in civil court. these hearings are expected to last about three weeks before the jury begins its next round of deliberations. i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news" at city hall. ly. >> al suspected drug dealer is behind bars tonight following a two month long investigation by delaware state police. 30-year-old jesus sorano torres was arrested on tuesday during abtraffic stop. when officers searched his car they allegedly bound to handguns and cocaine. search warrants at two other places where torres lived and visited allegedly turned up an ak-47 assault rifle 9200 bags of heroin marijuana and cocaine and more than other drugs and more than $8,000. torres is being held on

$181,000 bail. >> now a story from the poconos tonight. the mount airy casino resort was just slapped with a $25,000 fine by the state gaming control board. this for serving a gambler 27 alcoholic drinks in a nine-hour period. the board says the customer was playing tabletop slot machines at a casino bar when he was served and was showing signs of intoxication after nine drinks. despite this officials say bartenders continued to serve him 18 more drinks after he was obviously drunk. the gambling board says the fine was levied as part of a consent agreement meaning the casino isn't contesting the penalty. >> time right now to get a check of the traffic scene on a friday night. >> matt pelman has the sobering details for folks trying to get home on a friday night. >> yeah its go red day as we said a little bit ago and weaver been going red rick and monica on the schuylkill expressway with lots of red brake lights lighting up due in part to three separate accidents. the one eastbound by the

conshohocken curve has cleared but just ahead there are two by montgomery drive. both now on the shoulder but you can see the really heavy eastbound traffic trying to get into center city. again stick with the river drives instead if you can. still have that pedestrian accident in west philadelphia at 59th and locust. also have one in juniata park right by the save a lot. that's at m and eerie avenues and some not so great news out of north philadelphia today. they announced the closure of the margie street bridge over the railroad tracks indefinitely because of structural issues with that bridge. lehigh avenue or 22nd would be alternates and in case you didn't hear we're looking at at least two more months of the closure of the pennsylvania new jersey turnpike correct bridge. this closure until at least april. it was just a announced this afternoon. unfortunate news coming out of bucks and burlington counties. a lot of people are using route one instead so the trenton-morrisville bridge is all jammed up. you can go up to 95 and the scudder falls. in cherry hill 38 by hollywood avenue where we have that big
