performance. a true drop the mic moment seen around the world. and we do say good morning on this monday, everybody. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm linsey davis in for diane. we begin, of course with the most incredible super bowl ever as the new england patriots beat the atlanta falcons 34-28 in overtime. as soon as the game ended, fans took to the streets in boston. >> hard to see them there, but you can know what they were doing. waving patriots flags, chanting quarterback tom brady's name. the celebrations going well into the early morning hours. the pats going to cap off all of that celebration with a parade tomorrow in boston. but oh, what a night. and it did start with a moment that brought this country a rare moment of political unity you might say. former president george h.w. bush fresh out of the hospital getting a standing ovation. well deserved as he presided

over the coin flip. from that moment, who knew the game would be one for the ages. >> he's in! patriots win the super bowl! >> reporter: the unbelievable understanding to arguably the greatest super bowl of all time. the patriots pulling off an incredible comeback in the first super bowl to ever go into overtime, capping off what was an epic night in houston. game time, at least the falcons were ready. the atlanta defense getting to tom brady early and often, sacking the quarterback twice in the first quarter. a scoreless game going into the second when this fumble proved costly for the pats. matt ryan showing why he's the league mvp. he's good. that set up the game's first score and this touchdown run by devonta freeman. >> touchdown atlanta! >> reporter: same quarter, same patriots, another turnover. this one stings. robert alfred returning the interception 82 yards. the game now a blowout, 21-0. atlanta confident in the lead.

team owner, arthur blank, dancing in the sky box. the second half, all patriots and one for the history books. this incredible catch by julian edelman from brady and the patriots with their first touchdown. and then another in the fourth. gisele is happy, yay. the game within reach for the pats and then with about a minute left, brady and the pats with another unbelievable touchdown. >> touchdown, james white! >> reporter: a two-point conversion tying the game at 28 apiece, forcing the overtime and in o.t. the patriots unstoppable, driving down the field to complete the spectacular comeback, returning from a 25-point deficit. amazing. >> patriots win the super bowl! >> the commissioner booed during the awkward trophy presentation, and brady aus suspended four games this season because of deflate-gate -- >> we're bringing this sucker home! >> reporter: exacting revenge and soaking up victory.

>> so excited at 39 years old bringing that sucker home, absolutely quote of the night. we've got much more from houston coming up including lady gaga's incredible halftime performance which was about the time that many patriots fans were giving up watching the game and seeing their team get crushed. they were actually not alone. >> president trump also left his super bowl party during the third quarter, although we have a sneaking suspicion he likely tuned back in. afterward he tweeted his congratulations on the amazing comeback. we'll get to more of that later but we want to get to that immigration battle between the president and the federal court system. >> the president is firing back at a federal judge in seattle for putting his temporary travel ban on hold. it comes as families from those targeted countries rush to the u.s. to see their loved ones before the window of opportunity closes. abc's stephanie ramos has the latest from washington. good morning. it's another busy week for president trump. his cabinet nominees will go

through confirmation hearings, but the big fight ahead is with this travel ban. >> reporter: emotional embraces across the country. tears of joy and perseverance. >> thank you guys. >> reporter: over the weekend, scenes like this played out at u.s. airports. this family of five, the father who worked alongside the u.s. mill area in iraq, now on american soil after several attempts to enter the country from iraq with approved visas in hand. >> i was denied boarding the flight to jfk. >> reporter: that was more than a week ago. they were stuck in iraq but now they're about to start a new life in america. after a federal judge seattle halts trump's immigration order. trump posting, just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. if something happens blame him and court system. people pouring in. bad. democrats pushing back.

>> the president is not a dictator. the framers of our constitution wanted a strong congress for the very reason that most of these kinds of things should be done within the scope of law making. >> reporter: trump's executive order which bans visitors from several predominantly muslim countries is now in the hands of the ninth court of circuit appeals. the appeals court rejected the plea for an emergency ruling that would have reinstated the executive order. but a three-judge panel is set to review the issue today. for now immigration agents are not enforcing the president's executive order on immigration, and no matter what, the ninth circuit court of appeals decides, the next step, the next stop could be the u.s. supreme court where a ninth seat is still empty. kendis, linsey, back to you. >> until 8:00 p.m. tonight to file their appeal. thank you. president trump is also drawing fire for his positive

comments about vladimir putin. in a fox interview, the u.s. president says he respects the russian president and wants to work with him. >> i respect a lot of people, but that doesn't mean i'm going to get along with them. he's a leader of his country. i say it's better to get along with russia than not. and if russia helps us in the fight against isis which is a major fight and islamic terrorism all over the world, major fight, that's a good thing. will i get along with him, i have no idea. >> he's a killer though. putin's a killer. >> a lot of killers. got a lot of killers. you think our country's so innocent? >> even republicans are taking issue with that. senate republican leader mitch mcconnell calls putin, quote, a thug, and says there's no comparison between how the u.s. and russia conduct themselves. the president standing by claims that 3 to 5 million illegal votes were cast last

a second scare in just a week for this cheesecake factory in pasadena. a car crashed into the front windows after two vehicles collided in front of the building. no one was injured, but this of course comes after someone threw an explosive device into the same restaurant. again, no one was hurt in that incident. the suspect in the case on the loose. bud weiser facing a firestorm over its super bowl ad. the commercial shows the founder's struggles as an immigrant in the 1800s. this comes in the middle of the heated debate over a travel ban. google's super bowl commercial was maybe a little more effective than the company anticipated. the ad for its vird wall home isn't known as google home oven had someone saying, okay google. apparently the commercial activated plenty of google devices across the country because it heard okay, google.

at least we know the device actually works. and a close call for a family in iowa. a train went off the tracks and almost into their front yard. family members were sound asleep sunday morning when they heard a loud noise and then the whole house shook. no one was injured in that derailment. and then there was this scene in a texas town. a steer somehow managed to escape the butcher and led officers on a chase for two hours. finally, two cowboys on horses were able to rope the animal. the steer is getting a temporary reprieve. the butcher says the cow was too stressed which apparently makes the meat a little tough and bitter. >> literally made a run for the border attat that taco bell. a jogger murdered. how police tracked down the suspect. and the young woman in a high school basketball team teaching us all a lesson. the incredible act of kindness inspiring so many this morning.

some incredible video showing the moment the ka lima volcano in western mexico erupted. the video shows ash spewing almost two and a half miles into the air. for a look at your morning road conditions at home, heavy snows in the northwest. roads will also see potential flooding in much of the south and midwest and up into the ohio valley. if you're flying, delays are possible in san francisco, los angeles and also memphis. to california now and in the mountains near los angeles five hikers suffered a treacherous fall, killing one man. >> they lost their footing and plunged 300 feet down the ice of this steep slope down into an icy ravine. rescuers had to lower themselves from a helicopter.

>> authorities say the hikers did not have the proper equipment for the icy conditions. dna has led to an arrest of a high profile murder of a new york city jogger. karina vetrano's body was found near queens. now authorities say a 20-year-old man has confessed with more. >> reporter: a long awaited break in the case of murdered new york city jogger just days after the six-month anniversary of her killer. 20-year-old chanel lewis arrested. >> the demon must get his justice and we will see to it. >> reporter: police saying lewis admitted he attacked her, punching her on the face and head before he allegedly sexually assaulted and strangled the victim around the neck. >> it appears to be a chance encounter. >> reporter: she disappeared shortly after 5:00 p.m. last august. surveillance video obtained from crime watch daily captured her
