58 others with cracks in an adjoining nonstructural vent. what is worrying it's believed the cracks begin in the vents and then spread. ly. >> we believe that it's going from the vent to the beam. >> reporter: what septa doesn't know is why the cracks are developing on the 60 cars nor how to fix them yet. the gm today stressed they would not rush out a bad fix. >> it is a complicated area and it's the highest stressed area of that beam. so, we want to move quickly but we don't want to rush and make a mistake that would create another problem. >> reporter: as for the riders, septa isly expecting crowded conditions tomorrow during the peak commute. it normally has 144 cars in rush hour service. it is expecting 108. well, as for this morning's commute the sense was the numbers were down. nobody too sure why that was. some people speculated today maybe it was because people heard there were some problems on the market frankford line. others wondered if it could have been a situation where

after a super bowl weekend people took the monday off. nobody's too sure about that. live in center city, john rawlins channel6 "action news." back to you all. >> the old super bowl flu john thanks essential our coverage of septa's rail car woes continues on 6abc.com. we've got reaction from commuters and updates on septa's efforts to deal with this latest issue. >> an alleged serial child rapist is behind bars in bucks county as detectives urge any other possible victims to come forward. they say william thomas worked as a handyman at various veiler parks in falls township. according to investigators thomas kept meticulous records of his crimes dating back 40 years. "action news" reporter nora muchanic live in morrisville and nora it appears the details surrounding this are pretty disturbing. >> reporter: sharrie, authorities say it's among the worst they've ever seen and the contents of the court documents would that curl your

hair. much of the evidence against william thomas came right out of his trailer home. this is 58-year-old william thomas' morrisville who has been charged with multiple counts of child rape and sexual assault as well as possessing and manufacturing child pornography. authorities raided his trailer recently at the midway village trailer park on new falls road finding over a thousand images of child pornography and much more. >> he also possessed over 1,000 pairs of soiled little girls' underwear in his trailer and these pairs of underwear were displayed almost throughout. >> reporter: police say they know of at least six victims and suspect there may be many more ranging in fridge two to 10 over the last 40 years. thomas was a handyman at the trailer park where he lives and after working in one of the trailers the new owner discovered handwritten on a piece of plywood intimate details about the sexual assault of two children ages three and six and a half. that led to the investigation.

>> human race hasn't come up with words to describe what we saw in that trailer. this is a parent's worst nightmare. >> reporter: here's what he looks like over the years. authorities say thomas had a remodeling business called thomas construction and they are asking anyone who might have been a customer with children he befriended to contact them. >> he asked us. he wouldn't let nobody in his trailer or anything so that's -- i'm shocked, still in shocked. >> reporter: several neighbors of william thomas say the handyman was a nice guy to kept to himself reason stunned by his arrest. >> i wouldn't have never guessed it of him. he was very helpful. he fixed stuff around my house and stuff and i had no clue he was a child molester. >> too nice of a guy and everything, that's what i thought all these years, you know. i mean looking at a monster. >> reporter: now, authorities say thomas' victims include a.m. relative. they also say some of the assaults took place at his former home on pheasant lane

in levittown. again, the d.a. is something anyone hoop suspects thomas may have had improper contact with their children while acting as a contractor to contact the falls township police or the d.a. office. live in morrisville, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." brian. >> nora, thank you. a teenager remains in critical condition following an early morning shooting. officers say the boy was shot several times in the arm, neck and shoulder. they found him in the 4,000 block of way may wood street in the city's juniata neighborhood. police are still looking for the shooter but believe the person left the scene in an older model pontiac grand prix. no word just yet on why that 17-year-old was shot. police say this is the ma tn who stole high end jewelry from the king of prussia costco. he got inside the store on allandale road through an unsecured back road and kept his face covered. upper merion police responded to a burglar alarm about 1:00 a.m. and found the broken jewelry case. they are working right no you to figure out the value of all

midatlantic but clouds are racing into the ohio valley approaching west virginia and they'll be on the move overnight tonight and arriving late tonight and especially throughout the next couple of days. however, despite that the clouds are coming in we have rain we are tracking. temperatures will be nearing records the next two days and as warm as it's going to be, we are talking about the possibility of a little bit of snow for some of us later on in the week. we'll have the timing on everything. those numbers and when the rains arriving as well coming up in that full accuweather forecast in just a little bit, sharrie. >> all right, a real mixed bag it sounds like. okay, adam, see you in a bit. >> okay. >> president trump he spent much of the day at mcdeal air force base in tampa florida there to be briefed. during the visit he also had lunch with service members there. he also gave a speech to senior commanders and coalition members. now, in his remarks, he stressed that immigration screening needs to be more stringent, this is in response to the court's putting his immigration order on hold.

>> and it was put on hold this weekend temporarily halted by a seattle judge who claims the ban mandates discrimination. the trump administration is now fighting to have it reinstated and has until 6 o'clock tonight to file a response with the federal appeals court. meanwhile, while that ban was on hold, one local family was finally able to bring relatives from syria back to the united states after they were initially turned around at philadelphia international airport. despite having valid visas six members of the family were detained and then sent back to syria on january 28th after home intervention they got on another flight and arrived at john f. kennedy airport in new york city this morning where they were reunited with their family. tonight they are in allentown calling their experience unjust and inhuman but say they're happy it's all behind them. >> i'm so excited to see my brother again. i'm so grateful. i just want to say thank you to all the american people

philadelphia today. they marched to pam senator pat toomey's office to deliver more than 11,000 signatures urging the senator to vote no. he has already, though, said he plans to vote in favor of devos' confirmation. let's get the "action news" traffic report now. >> matt pelman standing by live in the "action news" traffic center on a monday afternoon. no go behind that you. >> hey, guys, not moving so well in bucks county. this is route one the not so super highway brian and sharrie and the northbound side is locked up this afternoon as you head toward the trenton-morrisville bridge it's because of a crash just beyond the bridge on the mercer county side of the river. you can see as a result, coming northbound on route one away from oxford valley we're moving at a very slow space even standing still at many times. now, this is additionally complicated because a lot of people have been using route one to get around the continued closure of the pennsylvania new jersey turnpike connector bridge which of course does remain closed until at least april. so, i wouldn't head for one. you can't head for the

>> ♪ >> it was a case that made national headlines. a beautiful young new york city jogger killed while on a run in howard beach queens. well, six months after that incident, the nypd just announced a crack in the case saying it was karina vetrano's fight for her own life that led them to a suspect who is now charged with her murder. >> karena helped us identify this person. she had the dna under her nails. she had punch dna on her back and there was more dna on the cell phone. >> police say 20-year-old chanel lewis voluntarily gave them a cheek swab and his dna was a perfect match. they say lewis has since admitted to attacking the 30-year-old fitness enthusiast punching her in the face and head before he allegedly

sexually assaulted and then strangled the victim around the neck. her family says their fight for justice continues while lewis' father continues to defend him. >> must get his justice. >> oh, yeah. >> and we will see to it. >> apa wonderful young man. he wouldn't have done it. >> lewis is being held without bail. police say neighbors also helped crack this case reporting what they called suspicious behavior from lewis. turns out he had also received three summonses near that park four years ago but again, six months after her death finally a crack in the case. sharrie. >> yeah, big developments. all right, alicia. a mother's mistake may have led to an amber alert that went out last night across pennsylvania. two-year-old alexis weber was that found safe five hours after she was reported missing from her home in columbia county. police issued an amber alert telling people to be on the lookout for a stolen yellow mustang convertible. but it was all a false alarm.

alexis was found in the car which had rolled down the family's drive way into a wooded area. police believe the driver may have forgotten to put the car in park. >> all right now to a look at the today's closing numbers on wall street today. three red arrows, the dow falling just off 19 points today nasdaq falling three-point and a quarter points. the s & p falling about five points. iron hill brewery expected to open next spring on the 1100 block of market street. this will be the chain's first location in the city. it will be one of several new dining options along that revitalized block between market and chestnut from 11th to 12th streets. >> record setting that's probably an understatement when that describing sunday night's epic super bowl. the new england patriots are champions again and quarterback tom brady likely submitted himself as the greatest player of all time.

know. >> let the owner know, right, that's pretty good. >> time for a check of the accuweather forecast. >> meteorologist adam joseph standing by with the outlook for the week here for us. hey, adam. >> pretty spectacular right now then things turn very warm and then winter weather lovers a little something in the works for you at the end of the week. as we take a look at sky6 live a brilliant blue sky out there right now, that sunshine taking control and temperatures well above normal yet again this winter season. 54 right now in philadelphia, 53 wilmington, 52 in millville. low 50's even in the lehigh valley. the coolest spots where you catch that wind off of the ocean drops to 44 in cape may and dover off of the bay there at 47 degrees. again, you see the clear sky we presently have and it's going to be some time before those clouds increase from the west but they're beginning to and we're starting to see the development of a very weak area of low pressure. that will deepen over time over the next couple of days near omaha minneapolis heading

towards detroit well to our north and west. not a lot of moisture right now and we're not expecting a lot of rain with it at this point since the low will be so far to our north taking most of the energy with it as well. so, clouds on the increase overnight tonight and there will be a couple of late showers developing as even warmer air tries to puncture in for the day tomorrow, 33 in the suburbs, 39 degrees for center city, so all areas will be generally above that many freezing point, but if you're expected to travel, say, north of the lehigh tunnel, northern parts of northampton county into the poconos in the wee hours of tomorrow morning, there is a freezing rain advisory for the possibility of some light freezing drizzle around. at this point doesn't look like a big deal but just something to keep in the back of your mind if you're heading that way after midnight tonight. as we take a look at the future tracker6 again you see one tiny little area of blue near mount pocono. again, that's maybe that brief freezing drizzle. otherwise, it is some light showers for some areas in pennsylvania tomorrow morning for that rush.

we could see a round of some steadier rain especially, again, closer to the warm front in that energy to the north and west. could stay rather dry in southern areas. this is 11 o'clock tomorrow morning. then as the warm front lifts to the north, could we try to break clouds south and west sure but overall claude dee day on tuesday but again in the afternoon trying to dry out with that period of rain in the morning but take a look at the temperatures. 60 philadelphia, 60 millville. only in the upper 40's to the north and west so much cooler there and even warmer air to follow this as we take a look at that four day at 4:00 forecast. 60 tomorrow, mild with rain at times especially the first half of the day. record tying warmth wednesday with some peeks of sun developing, 63 degrees. and then another area of low develops which could bring some early snow and rain thursday morning, 37 and then brisk, cold friday, 35 degrees and everyone is wondering where is the cold? where is the snow? is it ever going to come? tonight at 11:00 p.m. here on channel6 we'll have

tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes between the quakertown and lansdale exits. no word on the extent of the injuries. well, neighbors along a street in north philadelphia woke up this morning to find quite the mess outside. police saya wrong way driver hit at least five parked cars along butler street. the vehicle also hit the corner of an auto body shop and the fence in front of a church. investigators say the driver took off and they still have not found the person responsible for all of this damage. >> a street in camden has a new name and this one honors a revered local man. mayor dana redd unveiled mike doyle lane taking the place of jasper street in front of the sacred heart church. monsignor doyle has led that church since 1974 and in this video is right there with a scarf and glasses on. he made it his mission to fight for civil rights. he's been a teacher in the camden diocesan schools.

what you should wait on. >> and mind the gap. police release frightening surveillance video showing a little girl slipping out of sight on a subway platform. we've got the dramatic rescue straight ahead. >> but we begin 4:30 with an unusual and explosive situation on the main line. a police bomb unit just finished removing several sticks of dynamite found in a freezer of a haverford montgomery county home that was being prepared for an estate sale s for more on why the explosives were on ice in the first place and how officers dealt with them we turn to "action news" reporter vernon odom live at lower merion police headquarters. vern. >> reporter: good afternoon sharrie. any threat of a possible disaster has now been averted thanks to the quick reaction by local authorities. dynamite was found in the home of a man who lived alone for many, many years. this was the scene in the 200 block of laurel lane late this morning. the lower merion police, the

fire department, and the montgomery county bomb squad called here after eight sticks of frozen dynamite were found inside this home. the owner passed away last month and his relatives were preparing for an estate sale when the explosives were discovered inside a freezer. >> an older gentleman who apparently was in -- had some work in his career that involved explosives who had recently passed away and the house is being cleaned out by apparently family members and they apparently discovered it in a freezer. >> no threat. everything is safe in the neighborhood here. we've notified the neighbors, the township has taken the appropriate steps. >> reporter: the neighborhood was never evacuated. explosives experts applied a standard treatment to thaw out the dynamite and reduce any danger. by midafternoon they took it away to a disposal site far earlier than they first had anticipated. >> it's frozen so they need to soak it let it defrost and soak in it diesel fuel. that will help to make it safe

to remove. >> reporter: sharrie, the rest of that house has been sevened for other old explosives and apparently no other ones were found. live in lower merion, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news" at police headquarters. >> oh, vern, thank you. a delaware woman has admitted to killing her husband by lacing his steroid injections with antifreeze. 47-year-old jamie baker pleaded guilty today to a second degree murder charge. her husband james was a competitive weigh weight weighto died in september of 2013. an autopsy found evidence of the antifreeze in his system. jamie baker reportedly told police she used a syringe to put the chemical into his liquid steroids. she's now facing 15 years to life in prison when she's sentenced next month. >> meanwhile a ventnor woman will spend the next eight years behind bars for killing her baby with methadone. this is 33-year-old lisa scalia.

a judge sentenced her to prison today in connection with the seven month old girl's death last january. police initially thought scalia rolled over the baby while high but later determined that she gave her daughter methadone. they also found a number of other drugs in her home including heroin and oxycodone. scalia must serve at least six years and nine months before she's eligible for parole. well, the man whose jaw was broken in this videotaped altercation with dover police has been paid $300,000. now the terms of that settlement were made public today following a lawsuit filed by the associated press. the video shows officer thomas webster kick la tief dickerson. the city of dover initially refused to disclose the terms of that settlemently. >> a local girl scout who was robbed of her cookie money is now seeing an outpouring of support from her community. the family of anastasia

semblis says a number of neighbors have offered to donate money or buy more cookies to help the nine-year-old theft victim. she was selling her cookies on south 16th street in center city when someone snatched more than $50 from her saturday. witnesses tried to chase that man down but he got away. detectives say they are still trying to identify the cookie thief. >> meteorologist adam joseph joining us now as we soak in some sunshine on this monday. >> temperatures in the 50 pretty much everywhere. pretty spectacular way to start the week as we take a live look right now over the commodore barry bridge, a barge there just going underneath the bridge heading up the delaware. 54 degrees the temperature. winds out of the south-southwest at 7 miles an hour. the dewpoint has come up from the single digits and we had that cold air earlier in the weekend late last week now back up to 27. crystal clear sky in atlantic city. a little bit cooler with the wind off of the water out of a

southwesterly direction. remember the ocean water temperatures in and around the low 40's so it's 44 and you capture that that wind off the water, the dewpoint much higher at 39 degrees. but since yesterday we've gained 11 degrees in the last 24 hours from this point today compared to yesterday eight in pittsburgh, 13 in charleston, west virginia, so temperatures will continue to warm here the next couple of days. we're talking about nearing records the next two days. and even the word snow possible. records and snow. anyway we'll chat about it coming up in the seven-day forecast. >> adam thank you. >> yeah. >> police in montgomery county investigating a high school break in where the thieves took some priceless sports memorabilia. grab that girl while others ran to alert the engineer. working together the group was able to pull that child to safety and incredibly she walked away from this without a scratch. twin sisters just had their very first chance to say thank you to the men who saved their lives 20 years ago. this was the dramatic scene on a frigid morning in 1997. police in omaha nebraska cradled to frozen girls and rushed them to the hospital. three-year-olds courtney and jennifer wandered out of their house at 4:00 a.m. and got lost in the snow. they were suffering from hypothermia and severe frost bite by the time the officers found them by following their tiny footprints. after days in the intensive care unit and months of physical therapy, both twins made a full recovery but had never met their guardian angels until now. >> let's see, who's who. i'm going to say you're courtney. >> yes. >> jennifer.

the roads right now. >> matt standing by with the update for us, hi, matt. >> as long as the baby is comfy. we have been keeping our eyes on septa brian and sharrie. we thought we left our train car shortages back in 2016. apparently that's not the case. over the weekend they found some cracks in the market frankford line train cars and as a result as you probably heard we're running on a modified and schedule on the market frankford line because a lot of those cars have need to be taken out of service. septa say they expect during the morning and evening rush hours to have very crowded trains because the trains won't run quite as frequently as normal. so far today it hasn't been awful. they have some supplemental shuttle buses on stand by in case the service does get bogged down but if you ride the market frankford line keep in mind you're running on a modified schedule for the foreseeable future. also on septa we've had about four or five different trains canceled on the regional rails because of crew shortages. i don't know if people are taking that day off after the super bowl maybe but a bunch of trains canceled

across-the-board this afternoon on the regional rails and of course the pennsylvania turnpike connector bridge on the roads remain shut down. additionally problematic this afternoon is the fact that there's a crash on route one at the trenton-morrisville bridge creating a backlog that's starting to dissipate at the moment from route 13 northbound toward mercer county. it is still a slow go. i think 95 and the scudder falls would be a better bed. 95 and the boulevard normal delays this afternoon. a crash by 30th street station along schuylkill avenue right there by j.f.k. boulevard and outside live in cherry hill by ponzio's, there's a crash and downed pole here along 41 southbound side at route 70. have a lane blocked. not too far away from that along haddonfield-berlin road by veto's pizza another downed pole and wires from an earlier crash, just one lane gets by there. we'll check it again, brian and sharrie, coming up in the 5 o'clock hour. >> all right, matt, thank you. stepping outside shall we and take a look, the view now from atlantic city as the sun begins to set. the sun is still up and that

live double scan, again, a lot of sun means the lack of cloud cover which means we're not tracking anything precipitation-wise at the present time. 54 degrees right now in philadelphia. 52 reading. 53 in wilmington. 50's for the lehigh valley, the poconos at 40 degrees. that ocean 42, so you get that that wind out of the southeast. it's only 44 in cape may and even right along the coast there delaware and also southern parts of cumberland county only in the mid and the upper 40's with the wind coming in off of the bay. there's that crystal clear sky right now but clouds on the increase from the ohio tennessee valley. you see a little bit of showers as well in eastern kentucky. all of that will be pushing to the north and east in the form of a warm front late tonight and throughout our tuesday. so, for tonight clouds will increase. there could be some showers but very late tonight in the early morning hours, 33 to 39 degrees with that south-southwesterly wind. as we go into the day tomorrow, it is all about location if you hear the word warm. if you're in dover, 62 degrees
