monica, it was such a bizarre scene for those people that were out here this afternoon when all of this unfolded. now you can see that police have opened up one lane for traffic as they wait to move this cab that crashed right in front of the barnes and nobles. the man who allegedly took this car on a joyride through the park was taken into custody but he left many who work, live and shop here horrified. >> i heard all these people like screaming. i heard like a car screeching. >> reporter: with she heard was man who reportedly had stolen a cab and erratically drove it through right house square before crashing at 18th and walnut just before 4:00 this afternoon. how well said she had to jump out of the driver's way. >> i saw my life flash before my eyes and i thought this is it. what was going to happen. >> people thought he was a cab driver trying to stop his car and he couldn't stop his car. then we found out he stole a car and he was driving randomly. >> reporter: residents and passersby quickly pulled out their phones film the chaotic scene as the man reportedly wearing no clothes was pulled

from the cab and taken into custody. >> crazy, it was crazy. thank god it wasn't 5:30 and people weren't picking up their kids from school and walking through the square and coming home from work. somebody would have been killed. it was absolutely insane and scary and just awful. >> reporter: now, a tow truck just arrived to help move this cab off of walnut near 18th and yes this could have been so much worse especially since this all unfolded at the beginning of evening rush but fortunately there were no injuries. reporting live here in rittenhouse christie ileto channel6 "action news." rick and monica. >> christie thank you. we're also following more train troubles for septa tonight. just months after issues on the regional rail, problems are affecting the market frankford line. >> now the agency is relying on buses to help carry extra commuters as it deals with a shortage of rail cars on the el. commute, there were fewer problems than anticipated this morning, but that could change tomorrow. septa's taken dozens of train cars out of service on the market frankford line after the discovery of a structural problem by app maintenance worker friday night. an 8-inch crack was found running across a support beam known as a car body bolster. further inspection found two cars with bolster cracks, 58 more with cracks in an adjoining vent. >> understanding how cracks form and how they travel is a very specialized business. and so we're -- we have experts in that area that have been working with us to develop a quick inspection method that could get us some assurances. >> reporter: for the morning rush, septa had that 16 of the usual 24 trains running on the line. it hopes to have 18 for the evening rush. commuters at 69th street were surprised to top to find fairlyw

problems. >> everything has been go smooth. >> it was very smooth. there was a septa official at the norristown train station talking to people. >> reporter: septa used only agent 60 available shuttle buses hands in case of crowding. ridership may have been down the day after the super bowl so septa is working to get more cars back in operation and figure out a permanent fix. >> we'll move as -- as fast as -- as we can but -- but with caution. and i'm hopeful that every day that goes by we'll have more cars out there. >> reporter: this is the second time in a year septa trains have come out of service due to a structural problem. you'll remember the issues surrounding the regional rail. there are far more available cars in this fleet, so this problem is not expected to have quite the same impact. live in west philadelphia, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news." ly. >> all right, sarah, thank you. an alleged child rapist is

now behind bars in bucks county. and tonight officials are looking for any potential victims to come for yard. 58-year-old william thomas of morrisville worked as a handyman at various trailer parks in falls township. when authorities recently raided his trailer they found more than 1,000 images of child pornography among other disturbing items. >> the human race hasn't come up with words to describe what we saw in that trailer. this is a parent's worst nightmare. >> here's what thomas has looked like over the years. police say he kept track of his crimes. they date back 40 years actually. officials say they know of at least six victims and they suspect there may be more. >> demonstrators gathered outside pap senator pat toomey's service office today. they want the republican to oppose education secretary nominee betsy devos. >> hey, hey, ho, ho betsy devos has got to go. >> devos faces a close confirmation vote tomorrow in the senate after two gop

senators pulled their support for her. it's widely expected the senate will tie leaving vice president mike pence to break that tie in devos' favor. we'll have more on that coming for you at 5:30. >> meanwhile the fight continues over president trump's executive order on immigration. the travel ban was blocked on friday by a judge in seattle. a department of justice request to reinstate the ban was denied by a judge in san francisco over the weekend. the appeal heads to the ninth u.s. circuit court of appeals. president trump defended his plan today while speaking to senior military officials in florida. >> we need strong programs so that people that love us and want to love our country and will end up loving our country are allowed in. not people that want to destroy us and destroy our country.

wonderful. >> reporter: this joyful reunion at j.f.k. airport in new york this morning marks the end of a week long ordeal put this family in the middle of president trump's travel ban an ordeal that wrapped up way visit from pennsylvania governor tom wolf who were there to greet the assalis when they require ice arrived in allentown. >> you cannot say you're not welcome here because of your religion or the language you speak or the place you come from or the color of your skin. that's just wrong. >> reporter: it was a week ago saturday when six members of the assali family arrived in philadelphia from syria with their visas to begin a new life in america with the rest of their loved ones but they were sent back nearly as quickly as they arrived because a travel ban had gone into effect just hours earlier. >> last week i was angry and i was depressed. >> reporter: as the allentown assalis were putting together their legal strategy a u.s. district judge temporarily blocked trump's executive order last friday.

between spring and winter as it were as the week goes on. meteorologist cecily tynan live at the big board to explain. hi cecily. >> get ready for a wild weather week but wasn't it gorgeous. 54 degrees for the high, 12 degrees above normal and loads of sunshine in fact two of the past three days we've hm sunshine which is pretty rare this year. so far this year we've only had seven days of mostly sunny skies in philadelphia. we've had 30 days shrouded in clouds. now, if you look at high temperatures across the nation, philadelphia we're in the 50's, cincinnati, saint louis in the 60's and we will tap into some of that warm air for the next two days. satellite and radar showing, though, it will come at a cost. we have this little slice of nice white over us but there's some clouds associated with a warm front that will be lifting through as we head into early tomorrow on tomorrow's the day you will want to grab the umbrellas. so, this is what to expect. the next two days temperatures near record warmth with a round of light rain and then

43. allentown 48 and reading currently 51 degrees. so, satellite6 and action radar showing loads of sunshine but you can see how the clouds already trying to move in from the ohio valley. we have a developing storm. it's still getting its act together. if you look right here you can see a little bit of a swirl. that's low pressure and what that will do is head into the great lakes and up towards quebec. so, as that tracks up to the north and west, it pulls up some very warm air. as we head through the day tomorrow. so, tonight the clouds will begin to move in. they'll thicken. some late showers developing. 33 degrees in the cooler suburbs, 39 for center city. so, temperatures above freezing. the problem, though, areas north. the higher elevations of northampton county and the poconos temperatures cold enough that there could be a little bit of light icing before that changeover to rain, so a freezing rain advisory has been poster up there from 1 o'clock in the morning until 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. so, future tracker showing around 5:30 a few sprinkles, some light showers beginning

standout at lower merion high school. it appears someone wanted a piece of that cinderella story for themselves. authorities say somebody broke into the school over the weekend and stole several items from kobe's shrine outside the bryant gymnasium. dann cuellar live outside lower merion high with more on what the thieves grabbed. hey, dann. >> reporter: hey, monica. school officials and lower merion police are going over surveillance footage of the people responsible for the heist. and the word is getting around the ace's nation community including kobe bryant himself. this is the display case that was broken into sometime sunday evening. the thieves busted the locks and took everything, all the memorabilia from kobe bryant's high school career. >> they're material items but for us they're important. they remind us of a really exciting and special time for the school community. >> reporter: these are image the items from they were stolen, the 1996 state championship trophy and the net from the game played in hershey a replica of jersey's high school jersey that was

authorities believe in all likelihood someone is looking to make some quick cash by selling the stolen items but that could prove problematic with word getting around to be on the lookout for the items and call police. live here at lower merion high school, i'm dann cuellar channel6 "action news." rick. >> all right, dann thank you. the criminal trial involving a montgomery county lawyer who is charged with raping one of his clients is now under way. jury selection began this morning in the criminal case against vincent cirillo, jr. cirillo was arrested and charged back in august 2015 with sexually assaulting a client and allegedly taking photos of his unconscious victim. he initially pled guilty to the crime but then withdrew it. from our delaware news room tonight, 47-year-old jamie baker pled guilty today to killing her husband by lacing his steroid injections with antifreeze. baker had been charged with first degree murder but ultimately pled to a lesser murder charge. james baker a competitive weight lifter died in september of 2013.

mrs. baker faces 15 years to life in prison when she's sentenced next month. >> a ventnor woman will spend the next eight years behind bars for killing her baby with methadone. this is 33-year-old lisa scalia. a judge sentenced her to prison today in connection to the seven month olde old girl's death last january. police initially believed the woman rolled over on the baby while she was high but later discovered she gave the baby methadone. scalia must serve six years and nine months before she's eligible for patrol. a tractor-trailer crash caused traffic tie-ups at a busy interchange along the pennsylvania turnpike this morning. this the scene along the route one ramp in bensalem. it's no the clear what caused the driver of the big rig to lose control but traffic did manage to get by. chopper6 hd over the seen in haddonfield-berlin road in cherry hill.

that crash happened about 7:00 a.m. no children were on board the bus at the time. and the driver of the bus was taken to the hospital. >> police say surveillance cameras captured a suspect wanted for stabbing man in north philadelphia. the video was taken on january 20th right before midnight at yes. bd beer on the 700 block of north tenth street. police say after the man in the video left the store he got into a fight with a man and stabbed him in the stomach. the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. if you recognize the suspect, you're urged to contact police. >> ♪ >> president trump is trying to get back to business today as democrats work to stop one of his cabinet picks. he made his first trip to the headquarters for u.s. central command and special operations before heading back to washington, d.c. abc's janai norman is live in washington tonight with the very latest. jenae. >> reporter: rick it was president trump's first trip as commander-in-chief and while he spoke out against terrorism at least one

on the battle over president trump's secretary of education nominee and his and comments about russian president putin. you can watch that that following "action news" at 6:00. there has been an incredible showing of support forearm philadelphia girl scout robbed on the street while she was selling girl scout cookies. it happened in broad daylight early saturday night in the 400 block of south 16th street. nine-year-old anastasia said man was talking to her and asking for lemonade. the next thing she knew he reached in her apron pocket and stole an envelope of money. anastasia's mom says the thief got between 50 and a hundred bucks. since that story aired only on "action news," anastasia has gotten both cash and cookie box donations. >> good for her. all right, time now for an update on the commute home on a monday night. >> over to matt pelman to see what's rolling out there in the "action news" traffic report. hey matt. >> hopefully everyone is well lester after the weekend ready to tackle the transit.

running on a modified schedule on the market frankford subway because of cracks found in some of the cars and a whole bunch of the cars have been taken out of service. mod fight schedules are under way. you could see some crowding especially during the rush hours and then you might be directed over to a shuttle bus instead of being put on the trains. so, those changes we're really getting used to them today. so far it hasn't been awful but something to keep in mind for the coming days. on the regional rails we've seen app bunch of delays this afternoon and cancellations on some of the trains because of crew shortages. no cancellations, no closures but a crash here on the schuylkill causing a little slowing as you head eastbound by the blue route. maybe in toward that are flyers game tonight. closed again farther east as you pass montgomery drive into south street. watching a crash in north philadelphia at fifth and somerset there by elbow heel and a crash on the northeast extension southbound past lansdale taking out the right lane. on the east west turnpike the turnpike connector bridge remains closed and route one not so bad right now.

letter word. >> snow. >> snow could follow. >> i thought you were going say heat. >> if only. >> if only. >> we'll get a little bit of february heat here the next couple of days. storm tracker6 live double scan, it was a beautiful monday. lots of sunshine. today was really the second time in the last three days we had mainly sunshine to look at when you looked up to the sky. the clouds didn't take over today, so as we take a look at the action cam which was along the wissahickon creek there in fairmount park, a beautiful shot here and typically when you're in the month of february, you can see some ice collecting on some of the rocks on the sides of the creeks. not so this year with the extreme warmth there we have been dealt with -- or been supplied with. as we take a look at that warmth right now 52 in philadelphia, 50 trenton still near 50 reading, allentown, wilmington 47 degrees. a bit cooler down along the shore with the winds off the water, cape may just 42 matching that ocean temperature. clear sky right now.

high clouds starting to enter western pennsylvania, near pittsburgh. there are some showers in west virginia eastern kentucky. this is along a warm front so, yes, it does get warmer, no the colder as this front lifts to the north here during the day on tuesday. so, clouds on the increase overnight tonight. any of the showers are going to hold off until the early morning hours, so we are looking at some damp roadways especially in southeastern pennsylvania for that tuesday morning rush but no icy roads with temperatures above freezing both in the lehigh valley all the way down to the shore. and then for highs tomorrow on tuesday, kind of a -- it's all about location if you are going to call it warm. warm in dover and philadelphia, 60 to 62 degrees. trenton not bad tomorrow, 54 degrees but farther to the north, the longer it takes to get that warm front through it will be a little bit cooler tomorrow, 47 in the lehigh valley and 44 for a high up in the poconos. so, that southwesterly wind takes over with a quick round of rain in the morning to the midday hours. drier in the afternoon. that 60 for philadelphia is

18 degrees above average. front comes through on wednesday dry so we're not looking at rain here on wednesday. there will be some breaks of sun developing with a high possibly record tying of 63 degrees and then along this front as it stalls briefly, wednesday night early thursday morning a new low is going to develop and at this point that low looks like it will track just to our south as cold air tries to flush behind that 63 on wednesday. so wednesday night early thursday morning, as that low develops the cold air comes in, we'll have a round of precipitation, changing from rain to snow presidential nominee who sees that snow and really that's kind of hard to say at this point because we got to see where the track of the low is. who does see the snow could see a few inches likely. not a big storm but a few inches likely wednesday night into thursday morning. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast t-it is 60's near records the next two days, a little wet at times tomorrow morning, drier on wednesday. that early snow or rain wraps
