>> ♪ >> monday night. dynamite is discovered in a home freezer on the main line. and a new problem has septa taking train cars off the tracks. but the big story on "action news" tonight is a frightening scene in center city philadelphia. a stolen cab went careening right through rittenhouse square before crashing at 18th and walnut many people were screaming, the car was screeching. a lot of noise and a lot of frayed nerves. "action news" reporter christie ileto was live at the scene. christie, what are the details. >> reporter: well, jim, it was such a bizarre scene for a lot of people that were here in this park this afternoon. at the center of the chaos is that cab you can see just over there and the man who allegedly took the car for a joyride is in custody this evening. >> just saw my life flash before my eyes. i felt like this was. >> reporter: keira howell jumped out of the way of this cab. a viewer caught the driver who had allegedly stolen the car

weaving through rittenhouse park. >> the man was yelling a cab pulled up and he went up to the door opened the door, dragged a woman out by the hair. >> reporter: alyssa wolfing ton saw the moment the suspect stole the car. >> he ripped off all his clothing. the cab driver had gotten out of the car so this man jumped in through the passenger door and then stole the cab and drove away. >> reporter: residents and passersby quickly pulled out their phones to film the driver who had crashed in front of the barnes and noble. >> it was crazy. i mean thank god it wasn't 5:30 and people weren't picking up their kids from school and walking through the square coming home from work. somebody would have been killed. >> it was insane and scary and just awful. >> reporter: and yes, back out here live this could have been so much worse especially since it started at the beginning of evening rush but fortunately there are no injuries. reporting live in rittenhouse christie ileto channel6 "action news." jim. >> christie thank you. septa has again been forced to take cars out of

service because of physical defects. this time it's the market frankford el. dozens of cars were kept in the yard for this morning's rush hour so only 16 of 24 trains were on the tracks. septa planned to put 18 trains into service tonight and here is the problem. mechanics on friday found an 8-inch crack on a main load carrying beam in a car. an inspection over the weekend found another car like this and 58 cars with cracks in adjoining vents and that apparently is where it begins. septa used buses to help with today's rush hour. septa officials say they don't know why the cracks are developing or how to fix them yet. our coverage of septa's rail car woes continues on 6abc.com with more reaction from commuters, updates on septa's efforts to deal with this latest crisis. police today a announce the arrest of a morrisville man who is an alleged rapist

alleged child molester and alleged chil child porn nothing. >> reporter: neighbors are shocked by the charges he's facing and what police recovered from inside his trailer which took investigators four days to process. >> he acted funny. he wouldn't let nobody in his trailer or anything. so, that's -- i was -- i'm shocked, still in shock. >> reporter: neighbors of 58-year-old william thomas of morrisville are sound hear their handyman at midway village trailer park on bristol pike is behind bars. thomas who lives in this trailer is charged with multiple counts of child rape and sexual assault and possessing and manufacturing child pornography. >> too nice of a guy and everything. so i thought for all these years. i mean looking at a monster.

>> reporter: police say they know of at least six victims including a relative from evidence recovered from inside his trailer. sheer whatly thomas has looked like over time. investigators believe he has been assaulting children ranging in age from two to 10 for the last 40 years. they seized over a thousand sexually explicit and nude photos of children from his trailer and that's not ally. >> he also possessed over 1,000 pairs of soiled little girls' underwear in his trailer. >> reporter: the d.a. says thomas' trailer was a perverse shrine to his criminal conquests. he kept meticulous detailed notes about his victims and what he did to them. some of his hand written notes were left on a piece of plywood in another trailer he had been doing work on. police say what they found inside thomas' trailer was horrific. >> the human race hasn't come up with words to describe what we saw in that trailer. >> reporter: the suspect ran a business called thomas construction doing jobs at trailer parks in bucks county. investigators say he would get

access to children by beep befriending them and their parents. >> he fixed stuff around my house and stuff. i had no clue he was a child molester. >> reporter: now police think the six cases they know about may just be the tip of the iceberg. they're asking anyone who may have been a victim or may know of other incidents to contact the d.a.'s office in bucks county or the falls township police. live in morrisville, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." jim. >> all right, nora, thank you. the bomb squad was called to a home in haverford this morning after explosives were found in a freezer. the discovery was made at 10:30 along the 200 block of laurel lane. authorities say eight sticks of dynamite were found as the home was being prepared for an estate sale. the scene was cleared just after 3 o'clock this afternoon. it was an emotional reunion today at j.f.k. airport one week after the extended family of syrian immigrants was dee and taken

this joyful reunion tomorrow at j.f.k. airport in new york. then governor wolf was there to greet them as they rolled into allentown. >> this is a great day. it not only brings this family together which is a really happy convenient but it brings really gun people into our commonwealth, into pennsylvania. >> reporter: it was a week ago saturday when six members of the assali family arrived in philadelphia from syria with their visas to begin a new life in america. but they were sent back nearly as quickly as they arrived because president trump's travel ban had gone into effect just hours earlier a development most concerning for matthew assali who is old enough to be drafted into the syrian army still embroiled in a brutal civil war. >> my life would be ruined going to the military. >> reporter: as the allentown assalis were developing a legal game plan a u.s. district judge temporarily blocked trump's executive order last friday so with all their required documents including their visas reinstated six members of this family once again made

>> police investigating a weekend break in at the kobe bryant gym at lower merion high school. investigators say all the memorabilia from bryant's career at the school was stolen from the showcase. that includes the 1996 state championship trophy and a signed jersey. high school officials and police are reviewing surveillance video from cameras inside and outside the school. of course kobe bryant a 1996 graduate of lower merion high school. upper merion police are looking for this man caught on surveillance video inside the costco in king of prussia. they believe he's responsible for a burglary overnight.

police responded to the store at 1 o'clock this morning for an alarm. they found a back door that was unsecured. they also discovered a jewelry case containing high end jewelry. it had been broken into. police have not said how much jewelry was taken, how much it was worth. it happens once a year but for some young people the memories will last a lifetime. this was pal day at philadelphia city hall. super bowl champion patriots arrived back in the boston area just a couple moments ago. super bowl li was that certainly one for the ages. patriots rallies made 25-point to beat atlanta 34-28. this is tom brady's fifth super bowl title. he was also named super bowl m.v.p. a day later brady is still smiling. >> we as players we go out and try to lay it all on the line and, you know, it's -- it's great for this team to be able to lay it outline like we did last night with everything at stake and then make enough plays to win the game against a team that, you know, was a great team. they gave us all we could handle. >> neither brian dawkins or terrell owens will be in the fall of fame this year. they fell short. one unlikely person is coming to t.o. did he first. donovan mcnabb says owens should absolutely be in the hall of fame. the two had a major fallout following supe super bowl xlix.

mcnabb says numbers do not lie. >> i understand he was app locker room cancer but when you send a man out with the numbers he has ranked second all time in a lot of categories but one ranged third in touchdowns there's no reason why terrell owens should not be in the hall of fame. >> sixers visit the pistons tonight looking to salvage at least one game on this four game road trip. also tonight reports say the team is talking with the new orleans pelicans about a trade involving jahlil okafor. sixers looking to get a first round draft pick in return. another report suggests sixers have been talking to at least eight different teams about okafor. the flyers home stand continues tonight against the saint louis blues. the orange and black remain in a playoff fight as jaime apody reports flyers going with the hot glove in net. >> having stopped 42 of the 44 shots he faced over the last two games michal neuvirth will get his third straight start tonight for the flyers. >> he's done a very good job.

>> possibly thursday morning. >> oh. >> storm tracker6 live double scan. jim, it's february. of course it's going to snow. come on. it's not snowing now, it's not raining, actually very little cloud cover. what a day today. we saw the sunshine in fact, two of our last three days have been sunny. we have the sunshine. it was cold, though on saturday, bright sunshine and mild, 54 degrees today. kind of a rare event. this entire year we've only had seven days in philadelphia with mostly sunny skies. we've hm 30 days just shrouded in clouds. tomorrow temperatures all depend on your location. a warm front is moving through and that means dover and philadelphia will be in the 60's. feeling like spring. in trenton 54 degrees but that warm front likely will not make it to the lehigh valley and the poconos. there temperatures only in the 40's. so, it's all about location. right now 49 degrees in philadelphia. 42 in allentown. no the that cold.

millville 43. atlantic city 44. and trenton 47 degrees. satellite6 and action radar showing that slice of nice right over us with all the sunshine today but if you look out to the west you can see already the clouds starting to invade throughout the ohio valley and what's going to happy, there's low pressure that that will climb in the great lakes. that drags a warm front in tomorrow. tomorrow clouds increasing a little bit of rain late tonight towards dawn, allentown 33, philadelphia 39, cape may 40, so here temperatures above freezing. the problem, though, will be the higher elevations of northampton county and the poconos. that's where you could get some light icing before a changeover to rain. so, the national weather service has posted a freezing rain advisory there from 1 o'clock in the morning until 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. if you're heading up there, do be careful. now, future tracker showing around 6 o'clock in the morning we have generally light rain philadelphia areas to the west and areas to the north and then little bit more

substantial rain moving in later in the morning into the afternoon around 11:30 probably less than a quarter inch of rain so not really a big rain maker. lifts up to the north. we have a cold front moving through on wednesday. ahead of it mild air but then thursday this is when things begin to get a little bit more interesting. that that front will stall to the south, wave of low pressure dwellings that. combination of the cold air and the moisture and that means the potential for accumulating snow even along the coast could start as rain before a changeover to snow. i'll keep you posted. the timing could be a problem for the thursday morning commute. so o-the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, tomorrow rain at times, a high of 60 degrees, though. wednesday tying a record high set way back in 1925, 63 degrees. thursday morning, that snow and rain, a high of 37, kind of a weather whiplash. on friday, it's brisk and cold, 35 degrees and heading into the weekend, temperatures climb back into the upper 40's
