nora? >> reporter: rick, monica, detectives here are working hard to track down the man who opened fire at the local vfw veteran's and foreign barps police say they still aren't sure exactly what started the prolt at the post but it ended with two guards shot, one of them in the head. it was ladies' night at vfw post on creek view road in willingboro when police say at about 11:30 thursday night, a dispute involving a male guest led two security guards to eject the man. diana matthews' husband was one of those guards. >> my husband, you got to leave and ushered him out the door. well, my husband thought it was over at that point. he came back in with the gun. >> reporter: the security guard peterson was shot in the arm. diana's husband william matthews was shot in the temple. >> he was shot in the head. they said he's very blessed or fortunate because it didn't hit his brain. >> reporter: both guards suffered non-life-threatening injuries. the gunman escaped in the chaos but police are using surveillance video from inside

the vfw and witness accounts to help them identify and locate the suspect. >> they were on it from the very beginning. they're pursuing leads. and once again, i'm kf didn't that -- confident that very soon someone will be apprehended. >> reporter: officials say they're horrified by the shooting and concerned the violence will overshadow the many charitable and community service projects they're part of. >> it really, really hurts, because it doesn't represent what these veterans stand for. we stand for peace. we stand for love. >> reporter: notfor some neighbors who have been complaining for several years about the crowds, litter and noise generated by the vfw. >> every thursday, friday, saturday till 2:00 in the morning, there's a loud band. there's people out here in the parking lot drinking. >> reporter: and adding gunshots to the list of complaints is not making neighbors feel any better. the two guards are expected to be released from the hospital very soon. you're looking live at the sally port at willingboro's police headquarters. this is where the suspect will

be brought when he's picked up. the mayor tells me that he has a meeting at 5:30 at the vfw with officials from the vfw and the state level also to talk about safety and security at the post. live in willingboro, nim nora muchanic, "channel 6 action news." rick? >> thank you. in other news, a new castle county man is facing 20 years in prison accused of dealing deadly drugs. 27-year-old theafill hollis of newark is accused of selling drugs laced with phetanol that led to an overdose last year. he could face up to a fine of $1 million and two other drug charges which could extend his jail sentence by 40 years. a woman is suing the solebury school in bucks county saying it did not protect her from a teacher. the 29-year-old woman claims she was sexual ally becaused by the athletic director. she said the school knew about it and did nothing. the accuser says the relationship started when she was a high school senior.

she says he groom her and forced her to perform various sex acts. it comes weeks after a grand jury report detailed a half century of sexual abuse at that boarding school. the woman released a statement read today by her attorney. >> by the school not taking true responsibility for its actions, each victim will continue to carry the weight and the guilt of these times as i have and will continue to feel that they were at fault. >> hazel was eventually fired from solebury for alleged embezzlement. turning to the forecast. as we look live at cape may, new jersey, and it's a pretty picture on a friday night. there's still a bit of a chill in the air though. give it a few hours, though, that that's all about to change for the better. meteorologist cecily tynan is live outside with the forecast. it's running weather. >> definitely. we've got a dose of a spring fever on the way. all this week, though, we've got pretty wild swings and

temperatures. wednesday 53. yesterday, blustering cold, 39. today's high, 45 de degree. that's one degree above normal. and tomorrow should be 19 degrees warmer than today. if you look at temperatures across the nation, can you see there's warmer air out to the west. there's warmer air down to the south. and this will be invading our region tomorrow. tonight, though, on this friday night, if you're out on the town, you definitely still want to be wearing the winter coat. a few clouds and temperatures will be seasonably cool at 7:00. 39 by 9:00. 37 by 11:00. 36 degrees dropping down to a low of 32 degrees. but then temperatures off to the races. this weekend, both days should make it up into the 60s with a good amount of sunshine. the warmest weekend since the beginning of november. we're looking at temperatures running about 20 degrees above average. forget february. this is normal for mid to late april. i'll let you know how long the warmth sticks around. and also track our next chance of rain coming up in the full accuweather forecast.

monica? >> thank you, cecily. sounds great. today marks a national day of action. tens of thousands of folks across the country skipped school and work to attend rallies and marches. and that included in philadelphia. already demonstrations are gathering in multiple spots including city hall and in west philadelphia. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live with more on the demonstrations still going on at this hour. good evening, john. >> reporter: monica, the protests behind me at msb began at about 4:00. about five minutes ago, a group broke off from that protest and have now gone into the middle of the lanes here between city hall and msb and are blocking traffic. now, what you're seeing is that group is they're starting to form up in the lanes. that's where they're moving. this are clear indications they about going to stop trafficment. the question is how long will police allow this to last? if we pan more to the right, we can see there is a considerable contingent of philadelphia police officers on bicycles

here. this is really just evolving right now. it started with about 10, 15 people who entered the lanes and blocked traffic. that was about five minutes before we began here. and now that number has increased. you're looking at scores of people in there. and at this point, the police are letting it play out. we'll see how long that will go. but as you said, there have been a number of protests scheduled for today, and that actually did happen today. in fact, two groups are supposed to be forming up now in the art museum area. but let's take a look at what happened earlier. this protest called the black resistance march is part of a loose coalition holding demonstrations in multiple cities today. the coalition, strike for democracy, says the collective protests today are against what it calls the victimizing the people by the trump administration. but megan, an organizer of the black resistance march, says there is more. >> our goal is to bring awareness that we shouldn't be

just protesting about trump but we should be prosing about all the issues that predates jump's election. we're here to discuss, of course, the stop and frisk. >> reporter: earlier today, several hundred gathered united in their dislike of the president's policies. >> my friends are being deported right now. i mean, it's really serious. >> reporter: one speaker said if the left wants to successfully challenge the gop agenda, it must employ the tactics of the tea party. >> we can look to the tea party's success. they gave us a blueprint of how to leverage our political popularity against congress. we have the numbers. we need to make them work for us. >> reporter: organizers see demonstrations as the beginning of a sea that will grow to more significant protests and strikes down the road. that the president and his supporters cannot ignore. >> we hope that people will use today to plan for march 8th. use march 8th to plan for may

day. use may day to plan for the next major event. and so we think this is going to take time to build the kind of force necessary. >> reporter: okay. back live light now. the black resistance protest continues. as we say, it changed about five to six minutes ago from being on the sidewalk here in front of msb. all the protesters now have moved out into the lanes between msb and city hall that has stopped traffic. police are reda have rerouted some traffic around the area but it does seem to have snarled other vehicles. you can see a large school bus back there with a number of kids on it right now. they're hanging out the window watching this, looking at it. and at this point, still police are allowing this protest to occupy the lanes here. so if you're driving in center city right now, you might be forewarned to stay away from this portion of the roundabout around city hall. it is locked and at this point not showing any change in the situation. the police are standing by. they're observing and monitoring

parts of southern california are under mandatory evacuation orders forecasters say the storm could beat strongest in decades. areas around los angeles are expected to see more than an inch of rain per hour. officials are worried about the risk of landslides and flooding across the region. several flights have also been delayed or canceled because of the impending storm. robber outside a north philadelphia bar. katherine scott spoke to the victim's father about the senseless loss. >> that human being that took a life for mere pennies, turn yourself in. >> reporter: today this father grieves for his son, 46-year-old u19 jarmer. he was shot and killed overnight at monique's lounge in north philadelphia. a bar the father and son just started managing on february 1st. >> 16 days in here, i lost a son. 16 days. >> reporter: today william is fielding phone calls trying to absorb what happened. his son's jacket still lying in the corner by his dj equipment. a beer still on the bar never finished after the violence unfolded. barry was not there at the time. three people were. farmer, the bar tornadoor, and one customer. when a man entered around 1:00 a.m. >> the male walked into the bar with a hood, hooded sweatshirt tied tightly covering his face.

>> i guess my son recognized that and turned to him and i guess they got to struggling. >> reporter: during the struggle, the suspect fired two shots hitting harmer twice. the suspect then pointed his weapon at the bar tender and announced a robbery. after the bar tender handed over $175 from the register, the suspect leaned over farmer, who had collapsed on the floor, and took his wallet and car keys. farmer died at the hospital. barry says his son was a father of two, a computer whiz, a hard worker who had recently adorned the wall with his farther's name in lights. he is missed. >> i would like him to tur turn himself in. he robbed my family of a young man that had a very good future ahead of himself, a loving fwaurth a loving son. >> reporter: this are no surveillance cameras inside the bar, but police were reviewing footage from nearby businesses. in north philadelphia, katherine scott, "channel 6 action news." a woman was murdered in a southwest philadelphia apartment wednesday and tonight authorities have arrested the

man they believe is responsible. robinson has been charged with murder of a 20-year-old, taylor. taylor was found inside robinson's hole in the 5700 block of wheeler street. she was treated for the wounds but did not survive. robinson is charged with murder. detectives say it all started with an argue the. collingdale police officers are on the scene of a stabbing. in the 500 block of mcdade boulevard at 2:30 this afternoon. us aer arrived and found a person with stab wounds. police was rushed to the hospital. they haven't commented on if they have suspects in custody yet. >> chopper 6 is over the gun hundred block of strahle street just after 7:30 this morning. authorities say a man broke not the 49-year-old woman's apartment and pistol-whipped her. nothing was taken from the home. the man was later arrested. the victim was treated for cuts and nazareth hospital still not clear if she knew her attacker.

from our delaware newsroom tonight, police say an uber driver picked up customers, dropped them off, then went back to steal from their homes. 26-year-old saddam awadallah is accused of pulling off these crimes in the bethany beach and fenwick island areas. police say he stole credit carts, computers, watches, cell phones and more. ala dala was charged with 11 counts of theft. he remains behind bars tonight. you now have to be 21 to legally buy tobacco in new jersey's capital city. trenton city council voted to make that change last night. the new law goes into effect next month. across new jersey, the age limit is 19. but trenton joined 21 other towns across the state to bump it up to 21 years old. stores caught in the area selling to anyone under 21 now face fines up to $1,000. also in new jersey, the cape may-lewes ferry is now smoke-free. they made that announce at the passenger terminal today. smoke something prohibited among

this is something we don't want to miss. >> absolutely. >> as we take a look at stormtracker 6 live double scan. a few high clouds here and there throughout the area today. but that sunshine was in control like it will be this weekend. the action cam was out this afternoon along the wissahickon creek and it's going to be one of those weekends either of the days you want to plan some outdoor activities, take a walk at your local park or your favorite national park. and even if you want to go for a little bit of ice cream because it definitely will be warm enough as we look at the temperatures right now. there is a chill in the air right now. upper '30s to near 40 for most of the area north and west of center city. levittown, southern bucks county. we're sitting at 46 degrees right now. in delaware, 41, a pretty popular number at this time from ewing to hammonton, to vineland. 39 in the villas and southern part there of cape may county. and also 45 in dover. and one thing to think of, we're talking about 60s and warm. if you are expected to hit the shore this weekend, if you're anywhere along the coastal

communities, the water temperatures in the upper 30s or 40s, if you get a wind shift come off the water or bay, it's going to feel very cold. so if you're heading down there, definitely still bring a jacket. as you look at satellite and radar, a few high clouds streaming through, along a warm front that will lift to the north and that's what's going to punkture in the warmth starting tomorrow. so for tonight, just a few clouds around. not as cold as it was last night. these overnight lows, about five to six degrees warmer than last night. 27 in the suburbs. 32 for center city. and there's that wind shift from the northwest to the southwest. very light, though, at 3 to 6 miles an hour. the highs for tomorrow, very warm afternoon. lots of sun. and then very late in the day, you're going to notice some high clouds coming in from the south and west. but it is not going to prevent these temperatures from hitting 64 in philadelphia, 60, allentown. 62 in wilmington. 63 in millville. and there you can see some those 50s right along the immediate shore. so, again, it's going to feel great in the sun. but if you're along one of the

promenades or boardwalks, you may get a little chill or two at times. we're going straight to spring. and the reason why is the jetstream is going across the rockies, hitting into canada, and then staying on the u.s.-canadian border allowing temperatures roughly 15 to 25 degrees above normal from the midwest down to the deep south. the mid-atlantic and even marts of new england where they have feet of snow on the ground. they will get quite a treat this weekend. here are the records. and here are expected forecasts for both saturday and sunday for philadelphia specifically. we should be about five degrees off of the record tomorrow. so we're not really going to hit the record. but close enough. the old record, 2011. but on sunday, we're only going to be within a degree or so right around 67 degrees, the old record, 1948 was 68. the exclusive accuweather forecast, if you're wonder when this is more typical, mid to late april. even on president's day, lots of

police department. and we are riff live atancy penn state university where the start of fun is now underway. but the big store see on "action news" tonight is a despicable crime in south philadelphia. bandits staged a robbery to well-known restaurant and stole thousands of dollars including donations for a national bone marrow registry. "action news" reporter gray hall has the story from john's roast pork. >> kudos to them. they got in. i thought there was no way to get in. >> reporter: early friday morning, crooks targeted john's roast pork along snyder avenue in south philadelphia. owner john bucci says one of his managers noticed the crime when he reported to work to open up. >> god forbid, you know, my guys walk in and they were here. you know? so who knows what could have happened. >> reporter: bucci says it was no easy job. he says the crooks came in through the roof's exhaust fan and had to be pros because they would have needed special tools to remove screws. catching clever criminals may be a challenge for police. >> we have surveillance cameras.

so they were smart enough, they took the dvr. they didn't touch the cameras. they took the dvr. so there's no surveillance tape. >> reporter: after squeezing down a tight hole from that exhaust fan, it's prize was the register. the bug lars got away with about $5,000. $3,500 from the register and $1,500 that bucci planned on donating to the bethe match foundation, the national bone marrow registry. it's a cause close to his heart. he received a bone marrow transplant while being treated for leukemia. >> no one's hurt. that's the most important thing. no one is hurt. >> reporter: this bad situation quickly turned around when other restaurants heard about the crime. frank olivieri, owner of pat's king of steaks and south philadelphia donated $1,500 to replace that stolen charity money. >> adam spivak from electric factory concerts heard about what i'd done and he came down with the check for $1,500 as well. and it's -- this would is what we do in philadelphia, help friends out. that's what it's all about. >> reporter: bucci tells us that he will be upgrading his
