philadelphia embraces a little girl from england in need of major surgery. next on action news. ♪ >> action news. delaware valley's leading news program. with meteorologist melissa mcgee. jeff skversky. sarah bloomquist and walter perez. well, this was a day to spend outdoors. today's temperatures shattered records in spots.

it felt much more like spring than winter. and while most people got outside and enjoyed the warmth, others still held on to february with an evening skate in front of city hall. sunday night and the big story on action news tonight is the end of a picture perfect weekend in our area. >> that's right. today we hit record high temperatures in some spots. but it was flat out beautiful for everybody. and many made the most of it. live coverage of the amazing weather. christie ileto is live at city hall. but we begin with meteorologist melissa mcgee and the first check of the accuweather forecast. >> walter and sarah, it's hard too believe that we are in the month of february. because temperatures more reflective of a spring-like season than the dead of winter. we had record highs today. in fact, record warmth in philadelphia. marketed out at 70 degrees. that's 25 degrees above average. these numbers more typical of mid to late april rather than february. other highs we shattered today, wilmington, 71, we talked about philadelphia.

trenton, record high of 69. 68 the record for reading readid allen town. still at 11:00, even with the wind coming on through, it's 54. balmy in the city. 57 in reading, 43 in the poconos. 48 in cape may. and in dover coming in at 54. satellite 6 along with action radar, a mostly clear sky, but look off to the west. and we're tracking a cold front out of canada. this will dip to the south as we go throughout the overnight hours. and give us a bit of a change into the start of our workweek on monday. so it will be cooler for president's day come tomorrow, but still mild for february. in fact, another run at records later this week. we'll take a closer look. coming up the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. >> it was a gorgeous weekend. thank you, melissa. and move on to christie ileto joining us live from city hall talking to people soaking up the gorgeous conditions today. christie. >> reporter: hey there, walter. yeah.

it's cooled down a little bit, but how could you not be outside? from the outdoor basketball games to skating, a lot of people taking advantage of the unseasonly warm weather. not junior typical february outfit. >> not really, shorts on, t-shirt, skating and this type of a day? >> we have been busy. since 11:00, non-stop business. >> reporter: did you think you would be eating ice cream outside in february? >> yeah, no. definitely not. >> super weird this is happening. i don't think i have done this before. it's unusually warm. >> we realize that there's outside seating and we're like, why not? it's beautiful outside. >> reporter: you guys aren't the only ones either, right? >> no, everyone has the same mentality. >> reporter: what brought you out tonight? >> the nice weather, of course. it's perfect. there's no wind. only thing we need is the light. besides that, the weather's

nice. >> i have not seen the city this crowded in a couple months and it is awesome. everyone is outside and having a great time. >> reporter: now, believe it or not, we're still seeing people out late this evening strolling around here in center city. and, of course, tomorrow's mild weather will likely bring out even more people for the rest of the holiday weekend. reporting live in center city, christie ileto, channel 6 action news. >> we have breaking news to pass along tonight from the windfield heights section of philadelphia. at least three people injured when they were hit by a car at city avenue and monument road. just outside the building here at channel 6. happened after 10:00 tonight. one was an 18-year-old woman, another a man in his 20s. taken to the hospital. no word if the person behind the wheel of the vehicle involved stopped at the scene. much more coming up later on action news tonight. and a live picture here from

new jersey where a pedestrian was struck and killed on route 322 tonight. police say it happened near cherokee road at 9:30 as the person was walking alongside the roadway. the driver stopped and the collision is under investigation at this hour. four people escaped serious injury after their small plane crashed into a a golf course in montgomery county. police say the plane crashed shortly after 2:30 this afternoon after taking off at the butler valley golf port in upper hanover township. it's a combination airport and golf course. it's not known what caused the plane to go down. residents in new jersey are counting their blessings after a single engine plane crashed on their street. but somehow did not hit any houses. the pilot may have been attempting to land the plane on the street. the plane clipped power lines and crashed upside down, missing a gas station by about a hundred feet. the 56-year-old pilot who was the only person on board was not seriously hurt. a popular indoor skating

rink in wilmington closed until further notice after several people became sickened by fumes. the skating club of wilmington filled with carbon monoxide after a zamboni malfunction. a hockey tournament was under way, some players were sickened but expected to be okay. believe it or not, today marks 12 years understand danielle imbo and petrone jr. went missing. the police issued another plea for information. the fbi is offering a $50,000 reward for information. last seen leaving a bar on south street on february 19th, 2005. they were riding in petrone's black 2001 dodge dakota pickup truck. the police have been working on promising leads, but no breaks. >> tomorrow tariq el-shabazz plans to kick off his campaign for philadelphia's district attorney. he served as assistant district attorney from 1988 to 1993. he returned to the d.a.'s office

last year. in fact he just resigned as the first assistant district attorney. el-shabazz wants to replace seth williams who is not seeking a third term amid an fbi investigation into gifts he failed to report and other matters. president trump had some explaining to do about something he said yesterday that had many people scratching their heads. during his campaign-style rally in florida trump referred to this mysterious incident in sweden from the context of his comments it sounded like he was talking about a terrorist incident. except there was no terrorist incident in sweden. richard cantu has more. >> reporter: in one of his now familiar free-wheeling speeches, president trump included these remarks. >> you look at what's happening in germany. you look at what's happening last night in sweden. sweden. who would believe this? sweden. they took in large numbers. they're having problems like they never thought possible. you look at what's happening in

bros sells. you look at what's happening all over the world. take a look at nice. take a look at paris. >> reporter: and that set off a transatlantic tizzy. many thought the president seemed to be including sweden with brussels, nice, and paris, all targets of terrorist attacks. but swedish authorities reported there was no terrorism there friday. the swedish government asked the state department for clarification. a former swedish prime minister tweeting, sweden? terror attack? what has he been smoking? questions abound. on sunday the white house explaining the president was talking about rising crime and recent incidents in general. and not referring to a specific incident. adding that the president was referencing a news report he had seen the night before. president trump heads back to washington facing a crowded slate of problems. he's promised a new version of his travel ban. his first one, halted by the courts. and he has yet to name a new national security adviser. in florida sunday the president met with at least four possible

replacements after michael flynn was forced to resign. that selection is expected soon. richard cantu, abc news, new york. >> new flyers distributed in two south jersey neighborhoods where racist literature was turning up last week. a group posted new flyers today. these new flyers countered last week's message of racism and klan recruitment. police in both south jersey towns are investigating last week's incident. a young girl just arrived in philadelphia where she'll soon undergo major surgery. arriving from the uk where the surgery was unavailable. jeanette reyes is joining us with more on what's being called megan's adventure tonight. >> reporter: well, dozens of philadelphiaens, part of the local rotary, waiting anxiously for the family to arrive. a family they have never met and never heard of until just last

week. it's a sweet surprise and much-needed support for an unsuspecting family that's been through a lot. >> we're all rotary members. and the south wales district governor contacted us and said could you help me help this family out? and that's what we do. >> reporter: megan has severe scoliosis. in her case, her fine, seen here, is at a 60 degree curve. once past 70 degrees she can no longer get an operation to correct it. and that innovative surgical procedure is only done at shriner's hospital. >> coming from overseas, exhausted. scared. faced with a situation with their daughter. if i were on the other side, it would be nice to know there would be people there. try to make it easier. >> megaen and the family arrived to a warm welcome from philadelphia and first class treatment from the city of brotherly love. >> it was unexpected. >> reporter: looked like you

newly released video shows the moment an assassin killed the brother of north korean leader kim jung-un. it took moments to cover his face with a cloth laced with poison. he looks for help, but dies on the way to the hospital. two women were arrested and charged with murder. one of the suspects reportedly says she was part of a prank. a man police wanted to talk to is now considered the main suspect in the murder of two teenage girls in indiana. this man in blue jeans and a blue coat was last seen on the trail about the time 13-year-old abbey williams and 14-year-old liberty german disappeared. the girls went for a hike last monday afternoon. about an hour later liberty posted a photo of abby on the trail bridge on snapchat. that was the last they were seen until their body were turned up thursday. >> our minds are in the deepers

sorrow one can't imagine. >> police say the photos of the man in the area are just part of the reason they are now calling him a suspect. it was an eerie site in washington, d.c. as the skyline looked a little different. here's a shot of the skyline. you'll notice you can't seat washington monument. that's because the lights on the structure were on the blink. those lights were supposed to come on automatically at dusk. never did, except for the blinking red aviation warning lights on top. the situation was quickly fixed and the lights came on at about 7:30. >> nobody won the massive multi-million dollar jackpot last night. but some got richer. one person in pennsylvania won a million dollars, another, a half a million. winning numbers, 3, 7, 9, 37, 33, powerball of 20. estimated jackpot for wednesday is $403 million. hundreds of penn state students resting their feet for the first time since friend thon

[ cheers ]. >> reporter: the thon family of thousands of dancers, volunteers and supporters of all ages capped an amazing year of work with more than $10 million raised. that money going straight to helping kids fight cancer. th on executive director. >> what penn state can do. the most incredible feeling in the whole world. >> reporter: dancers inside only got stronger. one said the pain so bad a shoe had to come off. but he was going to finish. >> my feet are absolutely killing me right now. >> reporter: worth it, though, right? >> very, very worth it.

from santander bank. the outer bands of a powerful new storm are moving into northern california even as the southern portion the state tries to dry out from the last tomorrow. damage in southern california in the millions with roadways washed away and countless trees and wires down. five people lost their lives as a result. in the north officials say there is a high risk of flooding because waterways are at their limits. some areas could see 10 inches of now rainfall. >> my goodness. out here it's perfection. >> yeah. >> it's perfection. >> all of the weather across the

down to the south. and as it does so the winds will shift from a southwesterly direction and turn northwest overnight tonight as we get into the day on monday. it's a touch cooler than it was today. so over the next 12 hours, 34 degrees is the overnight low in the suburbs. and drop down to 41 in philadelphia underneath a mostly clear sky. the setup tomorrow with the northwest wind, breezy and cooler. but this is still nice for february. the high temperature in the city coming in at 55. 50 in allentown, 51 in reading. 52 in lancaster. same thing at cape may. 55 degrees in dover. fast forward into tuesday. future tracker six showing things cloud up quickly. tuesday, 11:00 in the morning, mostly cloudy. tracking a frontal boundary. overnight tuesday into early wednesday morning a couple of showers likely. perhaps a tenth of an inch. not a whole lot of
