e using all available resources to try to find this suspect. they do believ that he has kidnapped two women from their apartment complexes here in the wilmington area just within the past week. residents here are very rattled if not flat out afraid as police search for this armed masked man. >> so, it's very scary 'cause this is a great area. >> reporter: today residents of the arundel apartments are thinking about what precautions they'll take in the aftermath of two kidnappings the most recent here last night. >> sometimes i come home late to babysit. >> reporter: that worries you. >> yes. >> until they find this guy i think any time my wife has toghttime i'm going toto the car and bringing her back up from the car fidget last night the victim returned home to the arundel complexer and round 7:45. the masked suspect was waiting in a common area and brandished a handgun. >> the suspect forced the victim into her apartment where he demanded money. the suspect physically and sexually assaulted the viim.he suspect

forced the victim to her own car where he d to several atms in the pike creek area and ordered her tothdraw an u of money. the was able to escape and call 911. >> detectives are investigating the kidnapping and believe it is the same suspect who committed the kidnapping at the top of the hill apartments on february 13th. >> reporter: last monday the victim was taken from the park lot at the top of the hill apartments in north wilmington. she, too was forced to do her own -- into her own car taken to an atm and ordered tocash. the suspect struck her ie sexual contact. she was released back at the complex. >> as an agency our primary focus r to identify and arrest the suspect who is responsible for these incidents. >> reporter: now police do believe these attacks are random. the suspect kept that that mask on the entire time in both incidents. the victims noted he had a

california's cahoney path spend sending a fire truck tumbling down the hillside. fortunately no one was inside at the time. >> more rainfall over northern rompting new concerns about the area around the oroville today. a damaged spillway forced nearly 200,000 people out of their homes last week. since the evacuations water levels have been dropping but officials say th rain has once again put those communities on high alertly. >> that same system swept through texas overnight. take a look at this dashcam video taken on the san antonio roadway. that is a transformer sparking over a highway because of the strong storms. also todathe national weather service confirmed thathat storm spawned three tornadoes in the san antonio area. neither was particularly strong but each of them left a path of damage several miles long. more tn three dozen homes were destroyed in the homes. five people were hurt but they're expected to be okay. all is quiet in the delaware valley. that's the good news after a picture perfect weekend.

we're looking at another mild week and another chance of record breaking temperatures. and a gorgeous look of the river there. >> meteorologist cecily tynan is in the place to be outside with another check of the springlike forecast, cecily. >> hi monica and rick. all you really need is a light jacket outside. this is the end of what will likely go down as the w midwest presidents' day weekend on record. saturday 68 degrees. just 1 degree shy of a r setting a record high of and then we had a back door cold front roll through today we cooled off, 58 degrees, that's still 13 deges above normal. and temperatures right now 56 in philadelphia, you can see the wind direction out of the north so that's pulling down cooler air so tomorrow actually will be the coolest day of the week but still above normal and satellite6 and action radar showing that high pressure up to the north that will migrate down to the south. so, what that will do is become another classic heat pump and that means the second half of the week we've got some more may-like weather onhe way believe it or not so looking ahead cooler

>> we are following developing news out of southern california. a police officer was shot and killed and another was wounded while they were trying to help a man who had been in a traffic accident. the officers were approaching the vehicle that was hit when someone opened fire. now, police have not yet identified a suspect but they believe he is a gang member. the officer hurt in the shooting is expected to survive. >> turning to health check tonight a new survey shows many parents aren't doing enough to keep dangerous painkillers out of the hands of children. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us at the big board now with details. hi ali. >> hi guys. if you have kids prescription opioid medications at home the recommendation is to keep the drugs in a locked cabinet but a new survey shows only about one in three households with young children respect following this protocol. and only about 12 percent of

parents with kids ages seven to 17 have opioids stored safely. now, if they fall into the wrong hands it can lead to overdose or addiction. parents should keep painkillers locked up keep tabs of how many you have and safely get rid of any medication that you're not taking. a new study says banning teenagers anyone under 18 from indoor tanning could be a lifesaver. doctors say it could prevent 6700 deaths a year from melanoma. that's the deadliest form of skin cancer. studies show even one session increases the risk for melanoma. >> we know that the longer you tan, the more hours you are under the lamp the more session you go to and the the number of years that you do that there's all individually serve as risk factors for the melanoma. >> and skin cancer can strike all skin types. just over a year ago the fda proposed banning anyone under 18 nationwide from indoor tanning but it hasn't been finalized. delaware already has that ban.

in pennsylvania and new jersey under 17 are banned. finally today, we know losing weight is difficult but keeping it off can be even tougher. that's why a maintenance program can make a big difference. a study done at the va followed two groups of people both had lost about 9 pounds on a weight loss program. then one group continued to have weight loss intervention such as group meetings and calls from a dietitian. the other group was on their own. after about a year, the group in the maintenance program kept more of the weight off. and other larger studies have also shown things you can do to increase your chances of keeping the weight off. they include having a support system that can be friends family, group meetings a dietitian, keeping a food journal. you can do that on your smartphone. weighing in once a week, exercise 60 minutes a day and the eating breakfast. eating breakfast helps to keep your blood sugar level more and stable. doing all of these can help to you keep the weight off.

>> wells fargo says it's seeing fewer new customers these days. wells fargo report add 31 percent decline in people opening new checking accounts this january as compared to last year. the decline comes after the bank's recent scandal over also sales practices. it was discovered employees trying to meet ambitious sales targets opened up 2 million bank and credit card accounts without proper customer authorization. lego batman continued its run atop the box office this weekend. the animated movie brought in another $34.2 million over the holiday weekend which was good enough to win box office sales for the second this evening a row o "50 shades darker" came in second netting $21 million. the action flick the great wall the most expensive film ever made in china debuted in third with $18 million in

forecast. tough to come in wasn't it cecily. >> yes, pretty nice out there. certainly doesn't feel like february at all and we had loads of sunshine today. sky6 taking a look at the skyline. our temple university camera. you can see a good amount of sunshine, some high thin cirrus clouds, the sun setting at 5:43. a lot of us talking about the great weather we've been getting. although these places taking a big hit. the ski resorts do not want to hear about more record warmth on the way. this is live sky6 take a look at the spring mountain presidents' day a big day for skiing. we have some folks on the slopes but you'll notice starting to see a lot of bear spots outside the trails and that is going to be more and more a trend as we head through the week much temperatures this month, though, certainly very warm and today still warm although not as warm as yesterday. yesterday a record high of 70. right now in philadelphia 56. down from a high of 58 but still that's 13 degrees above normal. allentown 52 wilmington 58 and cape may the school spot at 48 degrees. but look at these temperatures for february.

remember january we were running five and half degrees above normal. our 15th warm midwest january on record record. february so far even warmer philadelphia running 6.4 degrees above average allentown six, trenton close to five wilmington and atlantic city just a little more than 6 degrees above normal and we will be adding to that later in the week. satellite6 and action radar showing there's high pressure way up to the north. what that high pressure will that do is sink to the south become a classic heat pump and you can see these clouds out to the west. they'll be streaming in tomorrow ahead of a warm front. tonight though will be a clear night. going to be a cold night. 32 in the suburbs of philadelphia 27 in allentown, 33 in atlantic city wilmington 32 and tomorrow lots of high thin clouds. so it's not going to be as bright and sunny as today. it will be cooler but we should still manage to make it into the 50's by middle of the afternoon and then future tracker showing wednesday this is when that high pressure gets established out to the east so that becomes that classic heat pump, temperatures in the 60's but you can see 70-degree weather

out to the west. we will pull that in. thursday, friday and probably saturday as well. so the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow filtered sunshine that milky white sky, a high of 51 degrees so cooler than today but still above normal. wednesday morning clouds and afternoon sunshine, 63. thursday 73. friday record warmth of 75. and saturday hitting 70 before 70 before a cold front brings rain. cooler behind that and adam will talk about that in the accuweather 7-day forecast. going to feel like the middle of may by the end of the week. >> punxsutawney phil is looking for a different profession. >> i've been wrong too. >> quick break and more news when we come right back.

be done about building a wall along the border. constructing that wall was a major campaign promise by president trump. but some republicans have become concerned about the price tag that could reach more than $20 billion. some of them are demanding spending cuts to pay for the project. >> russia's ambassador to the united nations died suddenly this morning in new york city. vitaly churkin was 64 years old. russia's deputy ambassador says churkin became ill was rushed to the hospital and then passed away. he has been russia's envoy for little over a decade and was a considered russia's great champion at the united nation. a new video out that of airport attack that killed the half brother of north korea's leader. japanese tv released this image from the airport it shows a woman approaching kim jong nam from behind and grabbing him. his face was covered with a cloth that police believe was laced with poison.

moments later the video shows him pleading for help and suffering a seizure. nam died on the way to the hospital. malaysian authorities are requesting a dna sample from the family before releasing the body but north korean officials are on the attack. >> we cannot trust the investigation by the malaysian >> photos given to police show 11 suspects they believe are connected to the assassination. four of them have been taken into custody. in world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the assassination of kim jong nam as well as president trump's nsa announcement following "action news" at 6:00. >> back in this area a man was bound gagged pistol whipped and left to suffer inside his own home in the philadelphia juniata park section over the weekend and detectives are still trying to determine why he was targeted in the first place. latest on the investigation. bob what are authorities saying about possible suspects tonight. >> reporter: rick they're telling us that there's two suspects and basically they left this victim inside of his home to die. they bound and gagged him. he spent almost two days inside with no one around. the way they got in the garage door right behind us. we're told this victim's garage doors he works in there and always leaves it open. >> help people in my neighborhood. that's all he does. >> reporter: he's talking about this man who lives in this home in juniata park. his name is paul mayer. his neighbors are devastated because instead of working in his garage mayer is in the hospital in bad shape. he fell victim to my a violent home invasion attack this friday night. >> it's tragic. he never bothered a soul. >> reporter: philadelphia police say mayer was working in his garage fixing engines. two men in masks walked right in. friends of paul say they knew his kindness would eventually be taken advantage of. >> he shouldn't work at night with the garage door opened.

he should go in close it and work. >> reporter: detectives say they took mayer up to the second floor beat him tied him up gagged him and left him there but it gets worse. mayer wasn't found until around 4:00 p.m. yesterday. detectives say he was tied up with electrical tape and a rag was shoved in his mouth for more than a day and a half. it wasn't until he didn't show up for a family function on sunday that someone showed up here. the family says it was mayer's brother that came here looking for him. he too id to get in the front door but it was locked so he had to climb up to the second floor balcony. that's where he got in and found him tied up. >> thank god they didn't shoot him or kill him or something. they're crazy here. >> reporter: a bloody air gun was found next to him. it's possible that's what he was beat with. his face is fractured and nose is broken. >> for someone to do this to him, this is horrible. >> reporter: certainly is horrible. outside of mayer's home you can see he had this whole place lined with surveillance cameras. police say there is video but they have not released it yet.

reporting live in juniata park bob brooks channel6 "action news." rick. >> bob thank you. police in atlantic county say the driver who struck and killed a person in folsom last night will not face any charges. the victim only identified as a 33-year-old man was hit while walking along route 322 near cherokee road at around 9:30 on sunday. the driver did stop at the scene. also from our new jersey news room atlantic city police have identified the person found shot to death along the 600 block of pacific avenue. he is identified as 23-year-old carl simpson. someone called 911 to report that someone firing shots just before 10:00 p.m. officers responded to the scene and found simpson on the ground. so far police do not have any leads in the case and are asking anyone with information to give them a call. >> it has been 12 years since danielle imbo and richard petrone jr. were last seen on south street and still no sign of the missing couple. it was back on february 19th, 2005 when investigators say petrone and imbo left a bar

here at fourth and south in philadelphia. they went to get petrone's black 2001 dodge dakota pickup and seemingly vanished after that. imbo lived in mount laurel, new jersey. anyone with a tip can still call (215)546-8477. the fbi, philadelphia police and the burlington county police are still working the case. a $50,000 reward is available for any information leading to the couple. an arsonist caused damage to the famous fourth street delicatessen in south philadelphia. police released surveillance video of the suspect right there. he too id to open some car doors in the 700 block of south fourth street sunday february 12th, the night of the crime. a few minutes later, he was seen running from the opposite direction and a if i remember broke out. flames caused damage to the front of the restaurant and melted phone lines. if you know anything you're asked to call philadelphia police if you know that suspect. >> all right time for an update on the traffic situation on this presidents' day. matt pelman how we looking on lincoln drive or roosevelt

boulevard. >> very good. first if you're steering your ford or lincoln towards route one the superhighway grant me the opportunity tell you about what's going on here rick and monica. slow going on the southbound side headed toward the turnpike as again people avoid the continued closure of the turnpike connector bridge and each night this week route one the superhighway is scheduled to close up around oxford valley road. keep that in mind if you're head out later. vine street expressway will also close each night this week at 11 o'clock for overnight construction but at least the weather is cooperating for afternoon drive. no haze or anything as we look at the vine street expressway but we are just poking along in both directions between the schuylkill and 95. definitely fill more than it was the last time we looked at the vine street expressway. on the big picture okay lincoln drive that's doing fine. roosevelt boulevard that's slowing on the northbound side headed toward broad street and the issue that has trumped all others along 95 southbound has sun glare this afternoon. speeds there in the 20's. in northern delaware still those downed wires closing barley mill road lancaster pike gets you around it. still slow on the southbound
