condition and john rawlins live from the scene tonight. john what is the latest from train service and on the investigation? >> well, as far as the investigation is concerned jim. it is at an early stage. the ntsb is on the ground and we saw twoeinspectors here at the site. it took heavy equipment and dozens of specialized workers and saws and cutting torches to finally cutaway the damaged rail cars and clear the tracks, removed to a nearby maintenance shop. where they will be investigated by the national transportation safety board. the collision occurs tuesday morning and one was stopped when

it as rammed by a second train and pitched the lead car into the path of a third train. and the operator of the striking train remains in critical condition and why the collision occurs remains the big question, was it human error did the operator have a medical emergency or was there a mechanical problem. >> and they explain that the cars are quipped with automatic train control or atc an electronic safe guard that in part will maintain the safe separation of trains. >> it's a signal system the trains move under signal authority and the signal system keeps the train separated. the separation could also be monitored by septa's command center and "action news" asked to talk to someone about the capability of the system. we were turned down because it would likely be a central part
