a crucial speech for trump. we'll get reaction for days. >> absolutely, jim. that's right. president trump started his speech tonight by listing his accomplishments for the first month on the job, initiatives to add jobs, reduce crime and rebuild struggling enter cities. he harshly denounced this week's anti-semitic attacks. >> recent attacks and vandalism of jewish cemeteries as well as last week's shooting in kansas city remind us that though we are a nation divided on policies, we are a country that stands united in condemning hate and evil in all of its ugly forms. >> president trump sounded a conciliatory tone offering an olive branch to democrats and members of his own party and

laid out details on immigration bill. >> we'll raise wages, help the unemployed, save billions and billions of dollars and make our communities safer for everyone. >> trump promised billions to rebuild and strengthen our military and took a moment to recognize and honor the widow of navy seal ryan owens killed last month. >> ryan's legacy is etched into eternity. thank you. [applause ] then he announced a new team to tackle tax reform. >> my economic team will reduce the tax rate on our companies so they can compete and thrive anywhere with anyone. >> trump promised to repeal obama care while protecting all americans that need healthcare. >> obama care is collapsing, and

we must act decisively to protect all americans. >> reaction to the president's speech was swift and strong. we had a chance to talk to local delegates afterwards. democrats were concerned criticizing the speech for being short on details. >> i think that's your typical trump campaign speech, long on rhetoric but short on ideas and short on a plan to achieve the ideas. >> cautiously optimistic. the optimistic part is the calls for unity. the cautious part is the action behind that. >> it was a strong speech. the president made it clear that he's keeping his promises, yet he's inviting everyone into the process, republicans and democrats saying i want all of

effectiveness depends on what happens now. >> his approval rating is 50%. did he say in ig to those that didn't support him? >> it was largely what we heard from trump before. in that regard, he was still speaking primarily to his base. beyond that, the speeches are light in substance, little room for detail, and one of the dilemmas is that the agenda has been stalled on the hill. the question is if he can reboot and get the agenda moving. >> matt, thank you, sif. appreciate it. >> volunteers are coming close. they are coming from close and from far away to help restore a jewish cemetery in philadelphia. more than 100 head stones were

question this was about hate. >> this is pure hate. i don't see this as vandalism. this is pure hatred. how could people do this? >> today, dozens of volunteers from various faiths gathered at mount carmel to clean up the devastation by vandals. >> we need to show how much love there is. >> police have been working on forensic evidence at the scene and surveillance cameras in the cemetery. >> it's ongoing with the efforts of northeast detectives, fbi and the patrol division of the 15th district. about a hundred tomb stones were toppled over. many graves date back to the 1800s. for some that lost loved one in the holocaust, it's a reminder of a devastating time in

meteorologist cecily tynan is at the big board. cecily, what does it show? >> double scan is showing we have rain moving across the region, most of it philadelphia and south. another batch is rolling in. these are just shower, light showers. however, out to the west, it's been a deadly night of tornadoes. 19 reported tornadoes in the midwest, wo one of them fatal. this is ahead of a cold front sweeping through late in the day tomorrow and tomorrow night. that brings the potential for severe weather. the national storm center has put our area under a slight risk of severe weather. this means there is the potential for damaging winds and tornadoes. we'll talk about changes behind the system in the accuweather seven-day forecast.
