but we're in for a colder than average weekend. "action news" meteorologist adam joseph standing by at the "action news" big board as we head into the weekend. adam. >> yeah, some of these flurries turned snow showers turned snow squalls some areas getting hit so hard that it coated the ground and then they move on you can see these patches of white drifting through parts of the area. right now an area concentrated in southern montgomery county philadelphia county the schuylkill expressway also lancaster avenue and then route three as you head out into delaware county and eventually bumping into chester county south of malvern. there it's a little more robust as it's pushing through and heading towards media but again just a reminder you see the snowflakes you feel the cold wind, it is winter. these early scattered snow showers and squalls could bring a quick grassy coating to some communities. not all of them are that intense. brief reduced visibility and it's really the dividing line to a reinforcing shot of some very cold air for the upcoming

"action news" reporter john rawlins live at the scene this afternoon. john, you've got the latest details. >> reporter: that's right, brian. this happened about 11 o'clock this morning. two people a couple who have lived in this house behind me on e street for decades, they are both in critical condition at temple hospital. also their four-year-old grandson is hospitalized. he's at saint chris. emt's worked even as the victims were being moved to waiting ambulances. minutes before first responder arrived neighbor rashean pinnedder spotted a four-year-old through the door inside the house. he rescued the little boy. >> he was shaking. almost fell down the steps and got back up ran in. i think he was trying to get water to put the fire out. >> reporter: fire officials do not know what sparked the blaze that appears to have started on the second floor. neighbors say the couple were

raising four grandchildren. three were in school at the time of the fire. they say the couple went out of their way to help everyone along this block. >> nicest people in the world. they very good. >> yeah, when my son broke his arm he drove me to the hospital 'cause iidn't have a car, so he was like come on, let's go, you need a ride back, call me, i'll bring you back. >> reporter: a short time ago the family identified the two people who were hospitalized at temple 57-year-old jovio franco and 70-year-old algata roman. fair critical condition at this hour h live in kensington, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> john, thank you. police are trying to identify human remains that that washed ashore along the delaware river in camden. father and son found the decomposed remains near pyne poynt park on wednesday. the bones will be analyzed by new jersey state police and the state anthropologist.

if you have any information you're asked to call the camden county prosecutor's office. >> the person hoop shot four people in philadelphia's east oak lane is still on the loose. police say the gunfire stemmed from an argument during an open mic night inside 7165 bar and restaurant. the fighting spilled outside overnight onto the 7100 block of germantown avenue. someone eventually pulled a gun and shot three men and a female bartender. >> it's too many innocent people being shot. too many. and it needs to stop. it really needs to stop and that's the aggravating part because this is a beautiful neighborhood. >> the four shooting victims were hospitalized and said to be in stable condition. "action news" reporter bob brooks will update the search for the shooter tonight at 5:00. >> a possible arson investigation is under way in the grays ferry section of the city. fire crews say someone threw something at the window of a home here on the 2900 block of wharton street. it sprayed an unknown fluid on the glass but did not start a

fire. the fire marshal was called to the scene. >> this is the man federal authorities say is behind threats to at least eight jewish community centers across the country. police arrested 31-year-old juan thompson at a home in saint louis, missouri. federal officials say thompson made the threats to harass a former girlfriend and even made some threats in her name. thompson worked as anline journalist for the intercept but was fired for fabricating sources and quotes. he hasn't been linked to the threats here in pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware but our local jewish community has been the target of a rash of attacks in recent weeks including bomb threats made to schools and community centers. in response new jersey governor chris christie says patrols will be stepped up at religious facilities across the state. >> in the end it will come from all of you. working with us to make sure that people understand that if you want to be one of the

8.9 million people in new jersey, one of the requirements is to love thy neighbor as you would love yourself. >> christie was speaking there from the catholic jewish community center on the pallisades which is in tenafly new jersey. that was the target of a bomb threat on monday. the new jersey state attorney general's office is also offering a $10,000 reward for tips that lead to convictions in that state but again, all three states in our area have been affected by these threats. sharrie. >> all right, alicia. >> ♪ >> president trump is standing firm with his embattled attorney general jeff sessions. this one day after session recused himself from any investigations involving the president's campaign. sessions is under scrutiny for not disclosing contacts with the russian ambassador to the united states during the campaign. president trump has called the inquiries into russia a "wind chill hunt" and today we spoke with pap congressman brendan

boyle who says sessions recusing himself is not good enough. >> he should go a step further and resign. it's quite clear that he either committed perjury or came dangerously close to it and you cannot have the top law enforcement official in the country clearly misleading our outright lying to congress. >> meantime republican and pennsylvania senator pat toomey issued a statement saying in part "vladimir putin is no friend of the united states but that he strongly supports jeff sessions." >> there's a huge traffic situation on i-95 right now and so we want to get the latest on that. >> let's do it with matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center on this friday. hey, matt. >> yeah, happy friday, guys. this issue is not getting better at this point. as we look live, the snow is now coming down here in northeast philadelphia. one of these snow squalls moving through. it's windy. the camera is shaking but you can probably still make out all of the flashing lights and right here is the truck involved in the accident.

i don't even know if you can see at this point as this snow is coming down but just the left lane is opened for southbound drivers here approaching cottman and what was our old work zone of course not a work zone anymore but a lot of emergency crews are on the scene and we're being treated to just 3 miles per hour as we come southbound away from woodhaven road. in fact, those delays are starting to back up onto woodhaven seven. you want no parts of southbound 95 in the great northeast this afternoon. stay over on frankford avenue even come down the southbound side of route one, the roosevelt boulevard. we've gone from red into black. that means we're just parked there on 95 southbound. we're also getting set for a tacony palmyra bridge opening so start heading for the betsy ross bridge instead and we have major issues on the blue route, one of the squalls just came through here. it's over now but there's been an accident in the center lane. looks like they just got it pushed out of the way by broomall. southbound is still very heavy coming down from the schuylkill. let's grab the ipad do the

>> ♪ >> this was the incredible scene in ocean grove, new jersey, this morning as bitter winds fueled a massive fire that apparently began inside a vacant former hotel and ended with seven structures damaged or destroyed the fire erupted

overnight likely inside the warrington hotel on lake avenue. now, firefighters struggled to contain the flames in the frigid temperatures and strong winds that threatened to carry the flames. well, crews moved quickly to get everyone out of nearby buildings. >> i'm shocked. i'm glad i'm okay, that everyone is okay. now what's next? that's just where do we go from here? >> residents say that vacant building is known to house squatters but it's unclear if any were inside at the time. in all four buildings were destroyed, three others were badly damaged. >> well, this was the heartwarming scene in westampton burlington county today, puppies once housed at a now shuttered new jersey pet store are healthy ready to be placed in their forever homes. nora muchanic has the story. >> reporter: this is chelsea a four month old golden retriever back in the arms of owner tiffany steely who was picking her up at the burlington county animal shelter she was diagnosed with the parvovirus after she was

purchased at the now closed puppy barn on route 206 in springfield. >> we were terrified for her. it was heartbreaking bringing her home and and then immediately having to bring her back but i could not be happier weary united. >> reporter: tiff fee's complaint about what happened triggered an investigation and 77 puppies from the puppy barn were removed and quarantined. several were treated for parvovirus and other issues but now they are healthy and being released to new owners. >> these puppies were selling between a thousand dollars and $1,500 at the puppy barn here at the shelter they're going for $331 to cover the cost of their care. >> covered a lot of medical care that we have on these animals. some of them were sick and they were all showing signs so we ended up nursing them back to health. >> reporter: those interested in adopting had to apply online and were picked by lottery. >> we vaccinated everybody to make sure they have vaccines on board and we immediately started to monitor them throughout the second course of this quarantine. >> reporter: jordan was pick up a new dalmation puppy after the first one she bought at the puppy barn died.

>> you know what, they closed down, so that's the best outcome i guess, no more dogs, no more people will have to go through what we went through. >> reporter: the county and the spca are still investigating but in the meantime with help from the adoption lottery the shelter now able to offer free adoptions for any pet currently housed here. the shelter is located on academy drive in westampton. i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> members of the delaware black caucus are celebrating the grand opening of their new headquarters h the offices are on the 600 block of east 11th street in wilmington. a number of delaware lawmakers from the local, state and national level were on hand for this morning's event. the caucus is focused on informing the community of their mission to collaborate for change. members of ireland's largest union are in philadelphia. the services industrial professional and technical union sent representatives to meet with mayor jim kenney at city hall. now, congressman brendan boyle

also joined the discussion about immigration and workers rights and other local leaders as well there in that room today. >> high school students in the mayfair section of philadelphia got a taste of the professional world today. more than 40 role models told the teens about their future careers. after a larger assembly the students had a chance to ask questions in smaller groups. today's program was part of the year long celebration of that school's 75th anniversar anniversary. raising money to help kids with cancer. the action cam was there at the as the school's mini on that got under way. more than 300 students and faculty will dance until 8 o'clock tonight. all the money raised goes to the four diamonds fund at penn state hershey medical center. that's the same organization that benefits from penn state's thon in state college. >> here's a look at today's closing numbers as we close out the week this friday. all green arrows today. the dow pushing up barely just

three points on the day. the nasdaq up more than nine points, the s & p 500 up more than one point on the day today. well, pizza hut is upping the ante with a fun new way to order pizza. the pie tops have a button that automatically sends your order to the nearest location. it's all powered by bluetooth technology and a locate indicator that allows the company to know where to deliver the pies. but don't get too excited. pie tops are part of a promotion for march madness. they're only 64 favorites limited edition shoes. one to coincide with each team in the ncaa basketball tournament. so, pretty cool as we get ready of course for march madness. shoes order your pizza there. i don't know. >> this is what it's come to now? >> got to stay cool and this must be a cool thing to do. >> well, we should tell that you some of the snow squalls that some of are you seeing are having an effect on flights coming to and leaving

from philadelphia international airport. so just a word of warning that if you are head there had call ahead, check on your flight. >> meteorologist adam joseph standing by to tell us where these squalls are and how quickly or not so quickly adam are they moving in the area now. >> they're moving fast like 40 miles an hour so when they hit they don't last very long they quickly reduce visibility and then they move along and then you kind of see the sun pop back out and they're kind of scattered through the region on storm tracker6 live double scan right now. we have some snow squalls right now. you can see the deeper purples, that's where the snow is little bit heavy along 222 just to the east of kutztown and slicing right between kutztown and allentown heading towards quakertown, northern bucks county. again moving from the northwest to the southeast at that 40 miles an hour pace. and as we look at philadelphia, we do have a little snow squall here moving over the airport right now south of route one coating the ground in spots on the grassy surfaces but just wet on the roads so we're not looking at

any concerns other than reduced visibility if you're driving around and a few flakes in southern new jersey near atlantic city down to sea isle city and tuckahoe there along route 49 and that will quickly be off the coast in the next 10 minutes or so. as we take a look at some of the photos we've been getting in on social media, michelle sent me this from facebook from reading earlier this afternoon when that snow squall passed through and again, you can see howl it does coat those grassy surfaces but even if it coats the surfaces, more than likely it's going to melt pretty quickly right after it moves along because that ground is still pretty warm after all of those above normal temperatures we've had over the last couple of weeks. 41 is your wind gust in allentown right now so you do get strong winds with these squalls as well, 31 in philadelphia, 32 miles an hour in millville, 30 in dover. bringing those wind chills into the 20's across most of the area. 18 right now in allentown, so feeling very winter like out there and that's going to be the theme going into this weekend as well. you can see all the clouds to the north and west but once the sun sets, we'll lose the clouds and we'll lose the snow

showers and snow squalls so for tonight it turns clear with that chilly breeze continuing, 19 the air temperature allentown, 23 philadelphia, 21 in millville and tomorrow those winds will also be howling out of the west-northwest gusting at times to 35 miles an hour keeping wind chills in the teens in the morning and just 20's as we go in the afternoon but at least we'll have the sun on saturday. as we take a look at the four day at 4:00 forecast, 36 is your high. it will be the coldest day since february 10th around here and we only stay in the 30's also on sunday but with less wind it will feel more tolerable outside with that sun and then quickly turning milder monday, 52 degrees and then tuesday breezy, warm with a few showers around late in the day especially at 66 degrees. association here wso here we gof winter and spring making a return early next week guys. >> we'll be patient. >> thanks guys. >> a mural painted in 1967 is being restored back to its

scare at a delaware county elementary school. right now investigators know a 13-year-old student brought a weapon to class and passed it on but that's where the case goes cold. "action news" reporter gray hall is now live outside the school which is the harris school in collingdale to explain. gray. >> reporter: well, sharrie, police tell us that too much time passed before they were actually notified about this gun. now they're hoping that students with information about the weapon will help them track it down. >> we just want to find the gun. >> reporter: collingdale police on high alert after they learned a 13-year-old and student took a gun to school thursday morning and allegedly gave it to another student. police found out that night after the boy's mother alerted officers that her gun was missing. friday morning police searched the school but they found nothing. >> the bottom line is we have over 900 people in harris between staff faculty and students and there's a gun somewhere. >> reporter: we went to the 13-year-old's home but there was no answer at the door.

police say his family is cooperating but the other family involved is not. >> i wanted to try to have a face to face a sit down with the two boys saying look, where is the gun? let's get this gun. that didn't work. the other boy that we believe had access or has the gun, there was steadfast we're racist, we're picking on them, their son has done nothing wrong. >> reporter: parents we spoke to said they received phone notifications about the incident and were alarmed about the news. >> it was shocking. the first they know i thought of was the shootings in other elementary schools. that's the first thing i thought of. and i tapped my husband i said hey listen to this. they didn't say that they and found a gun it was just kind of a warning. >> reporter: for now investigators say they have hit a dead end. they're hoping the weapon is recovered and they can close this case. >> maybe a kid at harris will step up and say this is where it's hidden. we searched out back the school the other problem too is the trash has been emptied

so if it was in a trash can, it's gone. >> reporter: all right, so back out live the search continues for this weapon. well we can tell you we reached out to the school district. we have not heard back. police tell us they are in touch with the district attorney to see if any charges should be filed against the mother who left that weapon unattended. live in collingdale, gray hall, channel6 "action news." brian. >> all right, gray, thank you. a woman was hit by a car while trying to run across i-95 in christiana delaware this afternoon. police say she jumped out of somebody's car which had stopped near the churchman's road exit just before 2 o'clock. the victim only identified as a woman in her 20's was hit as she tried to make it across the southbound lanes. she was rushed to the hospital with cuts, scrapes and possibly a broken leg. police say drivers should expect delays while they investigate. firefighters had to deal with a frightening situation in philadelphia's wynnefield section this morning. one of our traffic cameras captured video of a car engulfed in flames just feet away from the gas pumps.

a fire sparked at the city avenue sunoco near conshohocken avenue just before 10:30. fortunately crews were able to get this under control before that situation turned more dangerous. nobody was hurt here. >> after eight months of training, the next class of police recruits graduated from the police academy today. the men and women took the oath to protect and serve during a ceremony at temple university. this graduating class includes 58 new members of the philadelphia police department. the rookies come from 20 cities from across pennsylvania, new jersey and new york. so, congrats to those men and women today. >> hovering right now near the freezing mark but feels a little bit colder. >> haven't talked about below normal temperatures much this winter season but this is going to be one of those weekends we are going to feel it and payback time. as we take a look right now at some of those snow showers and snow squalls that are pushing through the area, you can kind of see they're hit or miss. some up to the north and west

and some to the south and east so we first make a stop towards philadelphia here near woodbury, the connection between 295, the atlantic city expressway, the new jersey turnpike, 55 as well, there are some of these snow showers and not a lot of pink on the radar or purple. if you see that, that's when you have a heavier burst of snow pushing through but nonetheless, seeing some flurries here and as we head, also, to the south, we are also seeing some snow showers near atlantic city, you can see that snow squall with the purple just to the north of ocean city now heading off the coast and away from the garden state parkway. so, again, only reducing visibility if you're driving, it's not accumulating on the roadways so we'll watch these early scattered snow squalls. the grassy surfaces, that's where we can get a quick coating if it bursts heavy enough briefly and again reduces visibility and it's just a reinforcing shot of cold air that's kind of sparking these squalls. we'll talk about how chilly it will be tomorrow over the weekend and then a good rebound here for next week in

>> ♪ >> an outraged family says their son is lucky he survived a college hazing incident. andrew sealy has a severe peanut allergy and this is what he looked like after fraternity members smeared peanut butter on his face. it happened when he was passed out at an off campus frat at central michigan university. when his mom found out this week, she shared the picture of andrew's puffy face on facebook. although she believes he was hazed, the students who did this say it was meant as a harmless prank. >> it was just a joke and we were just trying to be funny. this guy is hanging out and we used peanut butter to put some on his face and we didn't know he was allergic just another thing being funny, being college students. >> well, the university is now investigating the incident. in the meantime, andrew has transferred to another college.

>> matt here with the update. >> that will teach sylvia not to close the door. good afternoon brian and sharrie. we're closing the door on this work week but getting home from it is not the easiest feat on this friday afternoon. unfortunately no positive progress to report here along 95 in terms of the amount of traffic that can get by our major accident southbound approaching cottman avenue. there is the truck involved, there's another vehicle on its side up against the barrier that was involved. a very serious accident. still have the three right lanes blocked and this is just stuck traffic that's getting by here in the left lane. they have blocked off all southbound lanes at woodhaven, all traffic coming out of bucks county into northeast philadelphia is being forced off onto woodhaven head toward philadelphia mills so as you can see this is creating huge delays in bucks county near street road. that's the southbound traffic that's head toward woodhaven waiting to exit onto it. just 4 miles per hour coming down from 413 to woodhaven where, again, all southbound traffic's being forced off. so, you can do that and then

head over to the southbound boulevard but single digit speeds over there as well. frankford avenue is packed with speeds in the single digits. if you can work your way into new jersey and use 130 or 295, you would be better off but that, too, is not the easiest feat because the burlington bristol is jammed, the turnpike connector bridge is closed. just lots of extra time in the northeast this afternoon. opening at the tacony palmyra bridge has wrapped up and our crash on the southbound side of the blue route near broomall is gone. we're watching that 95 situation and we'll keep doing that brian and sharrie in the 5 o'clock hour. >> okay, matt, thank you. >> adam joseph standing by with the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast next. >> ♪

especially through bucks county and chester county right now as we close in to storm tracker6 live double scan near bedminster heading towards doylestown, passing through perkasie, route 309, 611. we do see some of this purple popping up, that's that heavier burst of snow and again it's very quick as they're working in from the northwest to the south and east at speeds near 40 miles an hour. in fact in chester county, few towns picked up .3-inches of snow with some of these squalls that have passed through. this one doesn't have as much moisture as the one in bucks county but as you can see here, 322 heading towards downingtown, exton, malvern phoenixville, south of pottstown, route 100, getting some of those snow showers passing through the region and again, they quickly come in and then they quickly exit but it's kind of the leading edge of some very cold air and we've been getting some snapshots from folks backyards' or as they're traveling around again want to take a picture if you're the passenger obviously not the driver and as you can see here

from paul he sent this into my twitter page from malvern and you can see that leading edge of one of the snow squalls, one minute you got that bright blue sunny sky and then the dark clouds roll in, you get that burst of snow, sometimes coats the ground and then it moves on and then the sun pops back out but those winds, those wind chills, only 25 right now in philadelphia, feeling like 20 allentown, eight in the poconos, 19 in lancaster and millville 24 degrees. once the sun came up over the horizon it cooked up the clouds and also the scattered snow showers so once the sun sets we'll lose the clouds, we'll lose the snow flurries and snow showers and it turns clear but that chilly breeze continues, 19 in the suburbs, 23 for center city and future tracker showing early tomorrow morning, this is why. we got that cuddle alert, i mean fledge allentown, feels like 14 in lancaster, 18 in wilmington, 15 in millville and tomorrow afternoon the high of 36 degrees but wind chills stay in the 20's with winds gusting to near 35 miles

bob. >> reporter: rick and sharrie, that is no exaggeration. witnesses say people were in fact run, for their lives. that is the 7165 bar restaurant behind me right now. it is closed. that again is where it all started. it was a chaotic scene. witnesses say bullets were flying in every direction. four people were shot. two storefronts also hit. it happened in the 7100 block of germantown avenue in east mount airy. we spoke with a witness who says he's lucky no one was killed. >> well, i just seen people running. i just -- i'm happy to be breathing. >> reporter: detectives say it all started at the 7165 bar restaurant, that it was an open mic night with about 20 people inside that went wrong. >> and that's when there was an argument. the argument turned into a physical altercation and that's when somebody pulled a gun and fired. >> reporter: the gunman fired multiple times though police sound confident the shooter will be caught. >> we're pretty confident with so many victims, so many witnes
