southwest philadelphia, and tonight the search is on. sarah's off, i'm walter perez. the big news is the investigation into the double shooting in the middle of the afternoon that ended with a teenager badly injured and a man in his 20s dead. bob brooks is live at children's hospital of philadelphia with details. bob. >> reporter: walter, the reason why, again, wear here is because one of the victims is in critical condition. now he is a 14-year-old. we are hearing he was shot in the left side of his face and in bad shape. the investigation continued into the evening. homicide detectives trying to find out who shot and killed a man in his 20s and a teenager in his face. it was down in the 8100 block of lines avenue around 2:30. neighbors like shirley moore who grew up in the area are stunned. >> it's a sin, and a shame and a disgrace. >> reporter: the focal point is the shot up and crashed white

car. they were speeding away from the gunfire, smashed into the pole, splitting it, and came to a stop on 81st street. the man in his 20s was hit twice and pronounced dead at the hospital. the teenager is being treated. those around here fear this will happen again in the neighborhood until something changeds. >> these children have nothing to do in the community. there's no community center for them. these children need vocational training. they need -- they need an outlet. >> reporter: we spoke with ann strickland also calling for change here >> bother me as a great-grandmother to know that the children don't have any recreation. so what are they going to do? they get into trouble. >> again, they say this is a part of the city that has been severely neglected. they simply want more opportunity for the kids who are growing up here. >> it's a forgotten neighborhood. it's a forgotten neighborhood. this was a very viable

neighborhood. i was raised in this neighborhood. >> now what i see around here, the children don't have anything to do and this is very sad. >> reporter: we certainly hope the best for that teen here. as for the young man in his 20s who passed away, no word yet who he is bob brooks, channel 6 action news. walter. >> thank you, bob. we have developing news out of atlantic city where police are investigating a fatal shooting. it happened a short time ago on the 100 block of rhode island avenue. officers responded to reports of gunfire. when they arrived they found the victim on the street. he was pronounced dead at the scene. no further information released about this case at this time. fire officials nor wilmington trying to figure out what started a house fire. the flames were east 22nd street near north market. at least six row homes were damaged. officials tell action news three of the homes are vacant. no one from the other homes was injured. and breaking news out of

washington. president trump will unveil a brand new travel ban tomorrow. replacing the controversial plan that the president signed in january which was struck down by central judges. they say it will call for a temporary halt on all refugees, no longer singling out syrians. meantime, a weekend of unsettling developments from the trump administration. yesterday the president accused former president obama of wiretapping his phones. we have learned that the director of the fbi is calling on the justice department to publicly reject trump's claims. we get the latest now from abc's richard cantu. >> reporter: a senior justice department official tells abc news that the fbi director, james comey, asked the justice department for a public statement rejecting president trump's claim as false. comey reportedly thinks the accusation makes it appear that the fbi behaved illegally and wants to defend the integrity of

his agents. meanwhile, the white house is waffling. >> if this happened. >> if, if, if, if. >> i agree. >> why is the president saying it did happen? >> look, i think he is going off of information that he's seen that has led him to belief this is a very real potential. >> reporter: and the white house says no further comment until congress investigates the accusations president trump made against former president obama in the tweets. terrible, just found out that obama had my wires tapped in trump tower. nothing found. this is mccarthyism. the former director of national intelligence disputed the president. >> for the part of the national security apparatus that i oversaw as dni there was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president-elect at the time or as a candidate or against his campaign. >> reporter: clapper adding that during his tenure he saw no evidence of collusion between the trump campaign and russian officials. >> he had no evidence of such

collusion. >> reporter: welcome news for team trump. but now overshadowed by that tempest over the tweets. richard cantu, abc news, new york. annual event bringing together leaders from south jersey's jewish community had a heightened sense of importance. foremost on their minds is the recent rash of anti-semitic acts across the country and the region. jenette reyes was there and joins us live with more. >> reporter: well, walter, senator robert menendez made clear his support for the jewish community and encouraged his colleagues to do the same. the general sentiment from the attendees here was that the message could not have been any more timely given the recent incidence the anti-semitism. tonight democratic senator robert menendez's speech was punctuated with rousing applause as he voiced his support for

members on local and international issues. >> the defacement of property or the delegitimatization of the jewish state of israel. it is up to all of us to stand up, stand together and speak out against it. >> reporter: menendez, a keynote speaker for the institute spoke out strongly against recent acts of anti-semitism, including a bomb threat at a local community center and the desecration of hundreds of headstones at a philadelphia cemetery. >> whether you're sitting in city hall or the white house, you know, we must strongly be speaking out against the discrimination in all forms. against hey fred in all of its forms. >> reporter: attendees say they were pleased to see such a passionate ally. >> i'm appalled by the hatred that's been expressed to our community. it's nice to hear the words of some -- of our u.s. senator opposing that and coming down with the strongest of terms.

>> our reaction to that is to pull together and be even stronger. and have greater resolve. i'm very hardened by the outreach of our faith communities. >> reporter: the younger generation in the room took the speech as a call to action. >> call to action is to take it from the previous generation, take the torch and figure out a way to keep building the relationship with israel. speak out against anti-semitism at home and abroad. >> and, of course, politics was mentioned more than a few times. menendez did call on president donald trump to be more passionate and more vocal about issues of anti-semitism as he is on other national issues. and, of course, he said he looks forward to hearing from trump on these incidents in the jewish community. reporting life in cherry hill, jenette reyes. >> thank you. meanwhile senator menendez's comments come as police nationwide are investigating a disturbing trend.

a rash of potential hate crimes across america. the latest incident involved a man shot in his driveway just outside of seattle. he is a member of the sikh faith whose male followers wear turbans. police say his religion may have played a role in the shooting. >> some comments were made to the effect of get out of our country. go back to where you're from. and our victim was then shot. >> now, that case in washington state resembled a shooting at a bar in kansas. witnesses claim the alleged gunman said, quote, get out of my country before opening fire. one civil rights group claims that nearly 1400 cases of ethnic harassment and hate crimes occurred in the u.s. since last november. meanwhile in new york city police say there is no evidence of vandalism at a jewish cemetery. someone discovered more than 40 tombstones toppled. after speaking with managers at the washington cemetery in brooklyn, it was determined they

came down as a result of several factors, including long-term neglect and soil erosion, but not vandals. north korea reportedly launched several ballistic missiles today. and japanese officials say those missiles landed in or near japanese waters. they flew more than 600 miles into the water off north korea's east coast. it's not clear what specific type of missiles were fired or the exact number. this is the latest missile launch from north korea. they had several test launches. the accuweather forecast. the winter cold made a return, but springlike conditions are making their own comeback this week as well. melissa mcgee with the first check of the accuweather forecast. >> yeah, walter, we certainly have something to look forward to. warmer today than yesterday. it's chilly. we're at the freezing mark in philadelphia. 32. 26 in reading, 25 in lancaster. at the coast in cape may, 34. but 17 in the pine barrens in

we have some heartbreaking i means coming out of mosul, iraq, tonight as tens of thousands of people are fleeing. some without shoes. trying to desperately get away from intense fighting between i.s.i.s. and u.s.-backed iraqi troops. i.s.i.s. has controlled the city for three years and putting up a fierce fight. it's believed more than 45,000 people have been able to escape the fighting, but as many as 700,000 others are still trapped.

thousands of people converged on the city of selma, alabama today, for the annual reenactment of the key event in the civil rights movement. crossing the bridge from selma to montgomery in remembrance of bloody sunday. images of police beating 600 marchers flashed across tv screens nationwide. it's widely believed that march helped build momentum for passage of the landmark voting rights act of 1965. >> brigadier general david deputy retired after 41 years of season. he enlisted in the air national guard of april, 1976, at 18 as a fourth generation guardsman. he went on to serve over 24 years as a delaware state trooper, retiring with a rank of captain. today senator tom carper and the mayor were on hand to celebrate his career. some local volunteer fire

storm tracker 6. it's dry. high pressure is dominating our region for the rest of tonight. so we've got a mostly clear sky and quiet conditions. outside we go. the action cam was outside earlier tonight in center city looking up at city hall. it's a beautiful shot. we have clear conditions. and because of that temperatures will fall off fairly quickly. in fact in philadelphia coming in at 32 degrees. so we're only at the freezing mark. the dew point in at 3. so the air is really dry right now. a northwestern wind. wind chill at 26. 27 in wilmington. upper 20s for reading and lancaster. 23 in allentown. at the coast in cape may, 34 degrees. but just 17 there in millvale, new jersey. here's satellite 6 along with action radar. we have a mostly clear sky from new england all the way down to areas in richmond, virginia. but you look off to the west and we've got some mixed precipitation moving across the

goldy babyam college in delaware hosted the first home baseball game in more than six decades today. baseball was played there in the 1950s. back in february the college decided to restart its baseball program after it was shut down many, many years ago. and today was one of 17 non-league contests that the lightning will play before starting conference play next week. by the way, the lightning lost today's game to the queen's college knights 4-0. check of sports. jeff skversky is here. never too early to talk about football. >> it is not. and doug pederson say they plan to build around carson wentz.
