breaking news from north philadelphia. that is where police say that a mother may have aat the present timed suicide by jumping out a second story window. her child was also injured. "action news" reporter, vernon odom, is live on the 2100 block of diamond street with the latest. >> reporter: sara, rick, good afternoon. the 2-year-old child is just upgraded to stable condition at saint christopher's hospital and the mother remains in critical condition. this is video at 2009 diamond street where the incident took place this morning. the mother and child plunged out of a second story window. it's unclear if the baby was thrown out first or they came out together. >> we don't foe if she was holding the baby or threw the baby out the window.

it's under investigation at this time. >> reporter: police believe it's a classic 302 case, a mentally unstable person. police are told by the grandmother that the mother made threats like this as recent as . the mother remains in critical condition at temple haspital now the ln the massive fire that caused a widespread power out able in philadelphia. >> right now crews are working to restore electricity to thousands of homes, katherine scott is following the impact and joins us with more. >> reporter: at this point 3,000 peco customers remain without power and most of them are homes and businesses in the immediate area. there are crews on site at this

hour. assessing the damage the extent of which is not yet known, peco hopes to have all the cust manufacturers back online by mid to late afternoon. >> no power -- >> this morning thousands woke up without power a day after a fire raged at this peco substation on west westmoreland street. >> everything is out for everyone. it's a work together for everyone. >> food getted spoiled and it's dark and kids can't do go school. >> it took several hours for peco to deenergize the substation. at the peak 36,000 customers were out power. the high school was closed today due to the outages and power was out in businesses and homes. >> i am out on my porch with candles and pizza and chicken wings.

>> this block as like the turnpike, and the expressway. and this morning at the bigger intersections like fox and allegheny, generators chugged along powering the traffic light but at clearfield drivers took turns going through. >> you have to stop and go. you have kids out there helping the people go with the cars yet, you stop you go, come on. >> crews are on site assessing the damage and peco was unable to restore customers by switching to another circuit. so she are bringing in external generators they will connect to their system. >> it will be placed around this region where we are able to connect directly into the system and flow power to the remaining customers. >> reporter: back here live you'll take a look at the damage and melted wires, peco is not

able to generate electricity out of this system. so they have power generators in place. and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. >> thank you. a baby who is less than 12 weeks old remains hospitalized after an overnight home invasion. the s&p suspects took the baby out of his mothers armed and threw him to the ground. they stole cash and ran away and the baby was hospitalized in stable condition and his mother was not hurt. police are investigating another bomb threat in a jewish community center in talliville, delaware. they received a threatening email this morning and authorities gave the all clear two hours later and the center received three other bomb threats in the last three months

and there have been similar threats around the country since january. and turning to the forecast and the roller coaster road continues outside. conditions are mild and sunny as we take a peek at the platt bridge. there is a big change coming and for that david murphy is outside on the terrace. >> the change we see so far is the one we are waiting for for the last several days, right now blue skies and barely a cloud in sight and look at satellite, what a difference a few hours makes because before dawn, there were a lot of clouds and even at sunrise still cloudy and sprinkles and showers were coming through and the sun is out in full force and a few additional clouds may roll through and we are looking bright and the numbers are heading on up. 58 in philadelphia and 57 in allentown, not much. a difference in areas like allentown and cooler at the point in cape may, and you'll

at least four people are dead after a freight train smashed into a charter bus in mississippi yesterday. the bus was carrying people from texas to a casino in biloxi when it stopped on the tracks, organizers of the casino trip said the driver tried to do all he could when he saw the train coming. >> the bus drive realized they would not get off the tracks in time, he opened the front doors and allowed members to get out that way and others got out the back doors. >> the bus was pushed 300 feet down the tracks by the train. the ntsb is on the scene investigating. an international manhunt continues for the poachers that

killed a white rhino and stole its horn at a zoo near paris. the incident is believed to be the first of its kind causing zoos to be on alert. the suspects broke into the enclosure overnight and shot the rhino three times before taking its horn. white rhinos are endangered are and the victims poaching. and wild fires continues to consume thousands of miles of land in parts of the midwest and southeast. and in kansas thousands of firefighters are lose using helicopters along the state's southern border in oklahoma. in southwest florida, a portion of interstate 75, known as alligator alley, is shut down because of smokey conditions there. and new york city firefighters

says that a drone was used for the first time to help put out an apartment fire. it broke out in the bronx and used the drone's hd cameras to determine the condition of the roof as they contained the blaze and firefighters knew to move to safety when a digital feed showed the roof beginning to fail. officials are explain what caused a mysterious blackout at the statue of liberty last night. the statue went dark except for her crown and torch. and the lights returned shortly before midnight after being out for two hours and they believe that the unplanned outage is due to work on a backup generator. one of the last project after hurricane sandy.

a company has expanded a recall because of an e. coli outbreak. they have identified soy nut butter that sickened nine people. and now they have increased the recall to include all soy nut products. they were sold nationwide in stores and online. the trump administration is moving to roll back federal fuel economy requirements meant to fight global warming, the

than that. 58 degrees also with the sun bursting through the earlier clouds and winds from the west at 21 and a windy one today and at least it's mild and bright. 57 degrees in allentown currently. and 56 in reading and not much difference in the numbers, down through philadelphia and you have to go to cape may to get a big difference when we have a draw off the day today and cooling you down off the beach. there goes the rain from the morning and a second batch of cloud cover in the central and western portion of pennsylvania and that may try to wing through later and i'm expected a bright afternoon ahead. in the lehigh valley, sunny and windy and a high of 60 degree, above average and the cool wind and down the shore windy and lots of sun and 57 is the high and philadelphia we get up to 63 this afternoon and mostly sunny and on the windy side and the winded average 20 to 25 miles per hour. and you get slightly higher gusts and that copes the jacket
