wanted at all as we do say good morning, everybody, on this thursday. i'm kendis gibson. >> and linsey davis in for diane. we begin with the showdown over health care. playing out overnight. >> here's a live picture inside the capitol building where democrats and republicans are making good use of red bull and perhaps five-hour energy drinks going head-to-head since yesterday morning. they're embroiled in a heated debate over the republican plan to repeal and replace obamacare. >> the bill is also facing opposition from conservatives but republican leaders are confident it will pass. abc's lana zak has the latest. >> reporter: lawmakers on capitol hill have been working overnight as they tear in the obamacare replacement bill. >> what this bill needs is some extreme vetting. >> reporter: pizza delivers kept them fueled up that lasted through the wee hours as democrats tried various stalling tactics. at one point debating an

amendment to the pay more more less. >> premiums will go up a lot more. >> reporter: republican supporters are trying to push it forward quickly. >> we are on a mission to repeal and replace obamacare. it's a rescue mission to save families and patients all across this country. >> reporter: elsewhere the nation's leading health care groups including the aarp are denouncing the republican plan in a letter it congress the american medical association cited the expected decline in health insurance coverage and the potential harm it would cause to vulnerable patient populations. one early review projects up to 10 million americans could lose their insurance. but president trump has promised insurance for everybody. >> he has committed that no one will lose their insurance. >> reporter: that promise is creating problems among tea party republicans who have opposed the replacement plan calling it obamacare care 2.0. the president inviting those groups to the white house to try and persuade them. >> the bill as it stands now has serious problems, but i'm encouraged that the president

indicated they're working to make it better. >> reporter: and the democrats have another reason for this long protracted political theater. they're trying to stall the bill long enough to allow the nonpartisan congressional budget office to fully score the bill with a more accurate assessment of how much it's going to cost and how many million americans may be affected but i got to say for all "world news now" fans kind of nice to see the lawmakers awake at the same hour we are. >> they know our pain. >> abc's lana zak reporting from washington, thank you. getting word that the president is reportedly planning to slash the housing and urban development budget by more than $6 billion. "the washington post" reports a third of those cuts will come from funds dedicated to public housing. hud programs that help house homeless vets, the disabled and elderly are slated for significant cuts. a survey by adp shows

businesses added nearly 300,000 jobs last month alone. exceeding expectations by more than 100,000 jobs. the president wrote in a tweet overnight, great news. we are only just beginning. hawaii is the first state suing to block the revised travel ban. overnight attorneys for the state officially filed the order which they say will harm hawaii's muslim population, tourism and also foreign students. a federal judge has scheduled a hearing for next wednesday. that's one day before the ban takes effect. and abc news has now confirmed that former utah governor jon huntsman has been tapped to be the next u.s. ambassador to russia. huntsman was a vocal critic of candidate trump during the campaign. he served as ambassador to singapore under the first president bush and ambassador to china under president obama. fbi investigation is under way to track down the source of that massive leak of cia documents posted by wikileaks. officials believe whoever was responsible had access to one of

the highly classified u.s. spy networks, the files revealed alleged hacking tools used to break into computers. cell phones, as well as smart tvs. phone manufacturers like apple and google believe their devices are no longer vulnerable. jim comey is making it clear he intends to serve his entire tenure term. during a conference at boston college comey said you're stuck with me for another six years. there was speculation comey might resign after he rejected president trump's claim that president obama tapped his phones. meanwhile, two senators are working from across the aisle to get to the bottom of that explosive wiretapping allegation. republican lindsey graham and democrat sheldon whitehouse have formally requested information from the department of justice and also the fbi. they want to know of any action taken to listen in on calls at trump tower. okay, to the weather. an outbreak of dangerously high wind knocked out power for

thousands and created a giant mess across much of the country. >> check out what happened in chicago. the wind knocked out a high-rise window raining glass and debris on to the treat below. one chunk even smashed through the window of a moving car. fortunately the driver was spared. much more tragic outcome in detroit where investigators say this apartment fire was deliberately set and it was made even worse by the high winds. five people were killed and at least four others were injured. across the plains, fire crews battling record wildfires have been severely hampered by all that wind so will they get a much needed break today? accuweather's justin povick joins us now. good morning, justin. >> kendis, linsey, thanks and good morning to you. very active time here into the south central plains with regards to all the fires that we have seen and all the high winds, well, today and into tomorrow moisture is climbing so it's not going to be as dry out there and we're also looking at a slight reduction in the wind
