drafting their version of obamacare repeal and this comes as president trump tries to strike a deal with conservative critics resisting the new bill. our chief white house correspondent jon karl is tracking all the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, george. with opposition mounting from fellow republicans, the white house is launching what they are calling a full-court press to sell their plan to repeal and replace obamacare. it's all-nighter time on capitol hill. >> the ayes are 23. >> reporter: the republican health care plan cleared the first of several committees after 4:00 a.m. this morning. another committee working right through dawn. >> so, buckle in. because we will go until we're done with the amendments. >> reporter: with democrats doing everything they can to derail the bill, or at least delay it as long as possible. >> i guess if we have to stay all night, i'll stay all night to offer my amendment. i don't think it's junk. i think it's an important idea. >> reporter: as the battle moves

ties to a similar cold case and, amy, you have more in there isn't a known link between the 2012 cold case involving two iowa cousins who were also found murdered in a rural area. but investigators in both cases say they are comparing notes and some of the details are strikingly similar. it's been 24 days since the bodies of 13-year-old abigail williams and 14-year-old liberty german were found along this wooded trail in delphi, indiana. the killer still at large. a photo and a voice. >> down the hill. down the hill. >> reporter: along with this snapchat picture found on liberty german's phone, some of the only clues to the crime. >> as poor as this picture is, somebody knows. and if you're watching, we'll find you. >> reporter: but this morning a father just a few hundred miles away hoping the delphi murder case could possibly lead to a break in his own daughter's and niece's abduction and murder. >> everything started coming back to me. >> reporter: on july 13, 2012,

elizabeth collins and her cousin lyric cook went for an afternoon bike ride and never returned. >> now to the latest on the search for those two missing girls in iowa. >> reporter: elizabeth's father pointing out the eerie similarities between the murders. both sets of girls seemingly taken in secluded area, their bodies found in wooded terrain and both crimes committed on the 13th of the month. >> two kids at once is very uncommon thing to have happen. two kids being taken at once and also just being on the 13th of the month. just kind of struck me as really odd. all the things together. >> reporter: authorities hunting abigail and liberty's killers saying they have compared notes with investigators in iowa. >> at this point we're not comfortable saying, yes there is a connection or no, there's not. we don't have enough information. >> on the surface these cases have similarities. have you underage kids on trails remote areas of two different states killed during daylight hours. but once you get beyond that the

cases really aren't similar at least based on what we know. >> reporter: as pink ribbons dot the tiny town in iowa for elizabeth and lyric five years ago so do orange lights glow today for liberty and abby. they're cautious about making any link but for the father of elizabeth collins, he is still holding out hope five years later that he might get some answers, george. >> okay, amy, thanks very much. let's talk to dan abrams and callahan walsh, child advocate with the national center of missing and exploited children and, callahan, let me begin with you. this is fairly rare, isn't it? >> absolutely. you know, we do see this at the national center where two kids will go missing at the same time but it's usually siblings that go missing and usually with a n noncustodial or parental abduction. the fact these two were unrelated and this was a n nonfamily abduction, it's definitely a rare case for the fat center. >> and, dan, no evidence of any kind of link but what will investigators try to do to see

if there's any connection? >> typically in a case like this what you want to do is see first of all is there any connection between these families? meaning, was there anyone who worked for either of the parent, even temporarily. you're looking for something that can somehow serve as a thread between these two. is there any physical evidence obviously would be the first question. it seems that's not the case the i think we'd know about that if there was any connection in regard to physical evidence but looking for relationships. the problem is if this were a cry of stranger then it makes it even d many similarities between the twor them to look into possible connections because these kinds of things are so rare. >> and, callahan, what is the nature of this crime in indiana? you know, some people said it could have been just a crime of opportunity tell you about the perpetrator. >> absolutely but it's

interesting to note that there's two victims in this case ands that puts the perpetrator in a high risk situation. his boldness and the fact that he's going after two victims shows a level of control that may indicate he's done something like this in the past. the grandfather is coming outcae pe old case, ri the news righ forward. what about someone that missed something in the iowa case and weren't watching as closely or since then they've heard someone make a comment about two girls in iowa, et cetera. that's the sort of thing that could be really -- >> you think five years later it still could be solved. >> oh, yeah, i think what you're doing is you're now going to get more people. it's what callahan's organization does, which is try to publicize these kinds of events to say, hey, america, please help. if you know anything and i think in connection with the iowa case in particular, the newfound

we are back now with that new drama for reality tv star todd chrisley under investigation by state tax authorities in georgia and now his estranged son kyle is speaking out. abc's mara schiavocampo, you have much more on this in robin, good morning. in fact, that son was subpoenaed to appear before the georgia department of revenue this week possibly to discuss the investigation. chrisley accused of lying about his state of residence to avoid paying taxes. allegations that if proven could lead to charges of tax evasion or perjury. >> spent a fortune on rugs relationship tflamboyant realit star and his sharp tongue. >> what is the deal i made with you? >> no drinking. no drugs. >> reporter: but this morning todd chrisley, the pat tri yashg on "chrisley knows best" now reportedly caught in a brewing georgia tax investigation and his own son kyle speaking out against him. >> i'd like to see him held accountable. >> reporter: investigators reportedly looking into claims chrisley lives in florida, which

has no state income tax. while records obtained by abc affiliate wsb revealing he declared himself a legal georgia resident in numerous court filings in 2010 and 2011. kyle, who is now estranged from his family says his father bragged about not paying taxes in georgia. were you ever really a florida resident? >> no. we went there for really vacation for in the summer and that was really the only time we ever went. we lived here in georgia. >> reporter: chrisley's wife julie even admitting that under oath in this 2013 videotaped deposition during a bankruptcy proceeding. >> you don't live in florida. >> no. >> okay. and todd doesn't live in florida. >> no. >> reporter: on a recent radio show todd chrisley defended himself saying he is a resident of the sunshine state. >> i have been a florida resident over 15 years, so my taxes have always been filed and if i don't make money in georgia, i don't pay taxes on it in georgia. >> reporter: chrisley saying in a statement to abc news, this is

we are back with our big board and begin with good news for melania trump. new poll out from cnn shows the majority of americans, 52% now have a favorable view of the first lady. that's up 16 points since inauguration day. let's talk about it now with anita mcbride who was chief of staff to laura bush in the white house. that's a pretty nice spike for melania. how do you explain it? >> well, good morning, george. thanks for having me. i think, you know, this doesn't surprise me because first ladies tend to be much more popular than the president of the united states anyway. and i think also, you know, let's remember, we didn't see much of her on the campaign and her first public pronouncement after election she wasn't going to move here so we didn't know what to expect but what we have seen since inauguration is that she is comfortable in the role and she's doing what she needs to do and defining the position as it suits her and i think people are responding to that.

>> but, anita, she is living in new york, far from the white house. do you think that's had any impact on how people are viewing her? >> well, i think it seems to be working for her so far. i mean, we didn't know how that would affect her ability to do the job. but the public events that we have seen her do, especially hosting foreign dignitaries and even her off the record visit to children's hospital last week and then her event yesterday and then hosting presidential guests in the box for the address to congress, she seems very comfortable in the role. >> she does. go ahead. >> i'm sorry. no, i think the one thing to your poll, though, about the difference between men and women, you know, there's still a lot of women in this country that are wary of the president and so they are not quite ready to accept mrs. trump, obviously the woman who is closest to him. >> and she's done a few things as you said but hasn't quite

struck out yet on any issues of her own and talked a little about taking on cyberbullying. >> right. >> do you expect to see more of that going forward? >> well, i do think that she has been saying a lot about wanting to work on issues that affect women and children and even at yesterday's lunch, she mentioned something about international education and i think what's going to be important there, if that is an issue that she wants to work on, is how they will be able to square that with the president's budget for the state department which really cuts a lot of those international education programs. >> yeah, that could be difficult for her. okay, anita, thanks very much. >> now to that midair mishap. a hawaiian airlines flight diverted to l.a.x. on wednesday after a 66-year-old passenger got into a dispute with a crew member over the cost of an in-flight blanket and david kerley joins us. authorities say the man was upset because he was cold and that he asked for a blanket.

they said that would be $12. the airline calling him unruly. tell us what happened. what does the guy say that got him kicked off the plane. >> it was a morning flight, amy. it was from las vegas to hawaii and several miles -- several hundred miles off california the pilot decides to turn around the aircraft and goes back to l.a.x. so the 66-year-old man did get cold. he asked the flight attendant for a blanket. the flight attendant said as you mentioned, you know, costs you 12 bucks. that upset him. asked for the number for corporate and then he said i'd like to take someone, according to authorities, behind the woodshed and that set off alarm bells apparently and that's when the flight attendant notified the cockpit. >> behind the woodshed, you know, kind of colorful language. doesn't sound like a very serious threat. >> yeah, here's what we don't know. we don't know what kind of language he used, whether he was very intense, loud, whether it was calm. we don't know any of those things, and so we have no idea whether the flight attendant may or may not have overreacted. but the flight attendant did
