seeing highest totals 6.6, lake harmony 6-inches allentown 5.4, huff's church 5.2 and west caln township four and a half. seeing snow squalls setting up along i-95 and especially to the north and west we make a stop southern chester county pushing into delaware county heading towards wilmington and new castle county, also the philadelphia international airport. this purple that you see on here is blinding snow squalls that are working in from the northwest to the south and east. there's another one in southern parts of montgomery county along the turnpike near willow grove. of anand the extension of 611 as this works from lansdale and heads towards the northeast airport of philadelphia and again these are hit or miss but where they hit, they hit very hard. one more stop off to the north. there it is in south allentown near macungie, passing through

reading and we take a live look on sky6 from pagoda in reading you see kind of what looks like a haze, that is that snow squall moving through. you can still see the snow on the rooftops there where they did pick up close to four or so inches around the reading area. the evening concerns are these snow squalls. they're sudden bursts of snow that drop visibility to almost zero so it is going to wreak some havoc in spots during the evening rush hour. they bring a quick coating to a half inch and then once the sun sets, everything is going to freeze up fast here tonight with those temperatures plummeting. brian, when i come back we'll talk about one of the coldest weekends of winter season setting up for saturday and sunday. >> all right, adam, thank you. let's switch live to jeanette reyes live in allentown one of the areas dealing with those squalls right now. you make it look good but you're thrilled to be there, i know, jeanette. >> reporter: i'm just so excited i can barely hold it in. brian, some of these people really did enjoy this weather. others not so much and really

saul the danger of it all. these conditions, this is exactly what some drivers were dealing with with an accident that caused seven cars to smash into each other. sunshine was just about the only thing in common between yesterday and today's weather. >> we were just outside yesterday with the dog playing without our coats on. >> reporter: we caught up with heather who was playing in the snow with her two daughters the. little gee a yanna and felt this weather hit a new phrase she learned in school and was able to show off. >> in like a lion and out like a lamb. >> reporter: the wet snow brought out these two neighbors shoveling at least one point. [laughter] >> it's a nuisance. >> it's a nuisance. >> in march, yeah. >> to me it's great. look how beautiful. trees are white. >> i'm ready for springtime. >> reporter: but for dozens of drivers along the northeast extension on the turnpike in lehigh county, it was much more than a nuisance.

>> it was all fast. it was all quick. it was a mess. >> reporter: just before 10:30 this morning, there were two separate accidents. this one involving seven cars and tractor-trailers. >> i said he can't stop. he doesn't have enough time. so, brace yourself. >> reporter: drivers tell "action news" the weather was to blame. >> all of this snow started coming down really heavy. the people slowed down but it was very white conditions so it was hard for anybody to really see. >> reporter: two drivers walked away with minor injuries and most with a word of caution. >> just use your head. just use your head. just be smart. >> reporter: and coming back out live to us i want to show you these conditions because we're just about 7500 yards away from the road and this is the visibility. these are the conditions again that people were dealing with and i think because yesterday's weather was so good people probably got a little too confident on the roads today so please be careful in these conditions because it certainly can cause something like what we saw earlier this morning. reporting live in allentown,

"action news" reporter vernon odom live now outside of the courthouse there in doylestown with the very latest. vern. >> reporter: good afternoon sharrie. the hearing itself lasted about a half hour. the atmosphere very tense based on the heinous nature of this crime. the defendants demeanor could be described as weak frail nd soft-spoken. sara packer was bundled up when she was arrested in early

january and charged with murder kidnapping abuse of a corpse and with a rape conspiracy. today inside a bucks county courtroom, she wore an orange prison jump suit when she was formally arraigned on those charges and told that prosecutors may go for the death penalty if the 42-year-old is convicted of the killing of her 14-year-old adopted daughter grace packer last summer. >> obviously the facts are terrible. but we are obligated to look at this with a legal perspective and in this case well felt that at least we had to give the defendant notice that we could potentially seek the ultimate penalty in this case. >> reporter: on march 31st packer's boyfriend jacob sullivan will face a similar hearing. together, they are accused of killing grace on july 9th then reporting the girl missing claiming she was a run away. in january, court records show sullivan confessed to raping and killing grace. he eventually dumped her body in woods in luzerne county where it was found in late october. packer's lawyer entered a not

guilty plea on her behalf today and started to reveal the defense strategy. >> certainly the allegations in this case are very serious and horrific but i would point out at what we've said from the beginning we don't believe that there will ever be evidence that my client killed anybody. >> reporter: sara packer is now off suicide watch but she remains in isolation from the general population at the bucks county prison. >> i can only say that she's holding up as good as one could expect under these horrible circumstances. >> reporter: packer's lawyer says tonight he may try to have this trial taken out of bucks county or he may try to have a out of town jury brought in. live in doylestown, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> okay, vern, thank you. a house fire this morning claimed the life of one person. an "action news" viewer sent us this video as he drove by the scene on valley forge road. as you see here, flames were shooting from a third story window.

that's where firefighters found the victim's body. rooms in the home are rented out to tenants. investigators tell "action news" the house does have working smoke detectors. they have not said anything about the identity of the person killed. >> a crash involving a a school bus and a dump truck left several people hurt in wilmington. students were heading to the delaware school for the deaf when their bus collided with that dump truck. it happened at the intersection of d and south heel street. two students, the driver and aide was taken to a area hospital with minor injuries. >> it may look and feel like winter outside but spring has sprung inside the pennsylvania convention center. organizers are putting the finishing touches on the philadelphia flower show which opens tomorrow. cecily tynan joins us there live with a sneak peek and it is gorgeous in there, cecily. >> reporter: it really is alicia. it is warm and bright in here. this is the place to be, the theme this year holland

flowering the world, a great theme because no other country is better known for its flower industry. in fact think about this. the netherlands is responsible for 75 percent of the world's flower bowl production but the country is literally bigger than the state of maryland. it's not just about the now. it's also about the dutch lifestyle. i have an exhibit from the camden children's guard called snapshot holland and it shows the bike, holland is the bike capitol of the world. it shows the wind mills. you go there today, there are still wind mills across the country. behind me we've got those iconic wooden shoes and those shoes are used by farmers to keep their feet warm and dry and we've got 10 acres of this in the pennsylvania convention center. so, for the next two and a half hours i'm going to do my best to show you as many exhibits as i can. i have to say i think this may be the best flower show so far. back to you alicia. stay with us. this is beautiful. >> we can't wait to see the rest. cecily, thank you.

accident about 4 miles north of the mid-county tolls. they're still cleaning up there so the right lane is blocked. that's not good news for you if you're trying to get up to the poconos for the weekend. it's going to be very heavy coming out of that mid-county toll plaza. this is the schuylkill expressway. doesn't look like any snow showers at the moment but what we did have was a broken down vehicle here in the eastbound lanes just past montgomery: dv is here no longer. westbound travel is getting worse as people leaf town. speaking of leaving town this is center city vine street expressway already busy in both directions. eastbound stacked cross town from the schuylkill out to 95. and on 95 in delaware county it's a shaky camera but we've got a crash and another snow squall coming down right here around 420, southbound accident taking out the two right lanes with jams coming south of the airport. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report on this finally friday afternoon. crash along henry avenue at roxborough avenue by the baseball diamond in roxborough. watch out for that as well. we'll check it again brian and sharrie, coming can up in the next half hour.

describes how she survived a brutal attack while she was out for a run. >> as he was holding me down, i was like that. >> kelly herron was 4 miles into a 10-mile run in a popular seattle park when she stopped to use a public restroom. >> as i was drying my hands, i became aware that something was wrong. >> that's when police say gary steiner a 40-year-old known sex offender assaulted her. >> and it was a fight on the bathroom floor. i was screaming. >> take a close look at these red lines. her body worn gps shows her frantic attempts to get away from steiner. >> i started to feel like i was going to lose consciousness. i got another surge of adrenaline and i reached for the door and i was able to get out. >> herron says those self-defense lessons saved her life as she fought back with tactics she just learned three weeks ago. >> i learned put hard bones in

soft fleshy places so i just started beating the side of his head with the side of my hand. >> her instructor simply amazed. >> very inspiring and overwhelming and humbling. >> herron says she feels empowered and writes on instagram "my face is stitched, my body is bruised but my spirit is intact." police told her. >> that i did an awesome job and that i did a pretty good number on his face. >> add to that steiner is now behind bars and that's because kelly helped police apprehend him before she took off, she locked her attacker in that bathroom. brian. >> all right, alicia, thank you. the white house is defending itself today amid revelations that's now former national security adviser was working on behalf of a foreign government o the trump administration confirmed today that it was informed before the inauguration that michael flynn privately worked to aid the turkish government but officials maintain that president trump was not personally aware of flynn's

private work. flynn only registered as a foreign agent this week. to are that work which occurred during the campaign. meanwhile the president met with members of the house today for a driving -- toward driving the new healthcare bill. he thanks them for their efforts and again pledged his full support. >> the white house is also celebrating a strong jobs report that was a issued today and it's the first report to come out since president trump took office. the labor department says 235,000 jobs were added in february. the number brings the national unemployment down a tenth of a percent to 4.7. it's a sign that the economy is still on solid ground after nearly eight years of recovery. now here's a look at today's closing numbers as we close out the week on this friday. all green arrows here. the dow jones closing out at 20,904 up more than 46 points the nasdaq up nearly 23 points, the s & p 500 up nearly eight points on this friday. >> all right. as the markets rise, the snow

continues to fall. >> yes. >> it really has been a beautiful day out there today even though it's shocking to the system. >> it's the timing of it all but it has been a nice winter wonderland look outside. mears adam joseph standing by with more on the snow we got today and snow coming down as we speak. >> yeah, nice to look at from the inside out. what's happening here this evening we have these blinding snow squalls that are passing through parts of the area. this is live on sky6 right now from the philadelphia international airport. literally one minute ago it was a crystal clear shot and as you can see it is a whiteout at the airport right now as it is getting blasted by one of these snow squalls. the airport itself is right here underneath some of that purple. you can see that squall extends from south philadelphia right down 95, passing now south of wilmington heading towards swedesboro woodstown and just to the south of salem and parts of northern and central new castle county. in fact, you can see this quickly moving from the northwest to the southeast and then the sunshine breaks out behind it. in fact, as we close in a little bit closer here to philadelphia, center city will

miss this snow squall but as you can see gibbstown woodbury, 295 is going to be put to a halt with those travelers as you, again, get blinded by some of the snow as it passes through and it races from the northwest to the south and east at speeds of almost 30 miles an hour. another batch near limerick, pottstown, frederick, green lane and central montgomery county. that will be bumping over the northeast extension and central montgomery county and also phoenixville be on the lookout for one of these squalls as well. in fact, for this evening, they are hit or miss but during the rush hour, it will reduce visibility to almost zero for a short period of time. you get a quick coating to a half inch. once that that sun sets these squalls will continue to be ongoing. it will also freeze up on some of the roadways as temperatures crash. in fact, yesterday we were near 70 right now. we are close to 30 degrees colder than we were this time yesterday. wind chills now in the 20's to the north and west, 31 philadelphia. and it feels like 33 at the present time in dover, same thing for cape may point.

the cold northwesterly wind, it's the arctic air that is now coming in with these squalls. the steadier snow from this morning that is long gone. temperatures tonight 19 in philadelphia, 18 in millville, 15 in lancaster. watch for some of those icy patches as it turns clear but future tracker even at 7 o'clock past sunset we're still dealing with these snow squalls passing through finally exiting the coast by 9:30 tonight and setting up early tomorrow morning. crystal clear at 8:30 with sunshine returning. as we take a look at the numbers for tomorrow, brisk and cold, wind chills only in the teens. air temperatures right around the freezing point. that four day at 4:00 forecast it's going to feel like the single digits in the morning tomorrow, wind chills in the teens in the afternoon for that union game definitely bundle up. turn the clocks ahead on late saturday night, early sunday morning. it stays windy and very colin the 20's. increasing clouds on monday, very chilly of 38 degrees. and watching that nor'easter.

it is looking like it is going to skirt right by our coast. we'll have much more on that in the next half hour with temperatures of 36 degrees. but let's not talk about a nor'easter. let's talk about the flower show, the orchids and of course cecily looking very beautiful herself here this evening down in philadelphia. >> reporter: thank you, adam. thank you, adam. and adam, i know you're a gardener and you probably know that growing some orchids can be very, very difficult. but the dutch, they have it to a science. holland supplies orchids for around the world and there's a process called mara stemming where they take one healthy orchid and they can turn it into thousands of orchids. so i am actually surrounded by 1500 orchids right now. this exhibit is from walder orchids. we've got orchids to the right and left above me as well and the nice thing, too, when you come here, you see these beautiful flowers. these orchids are also for

berks county over 5-inches of snow wayne 4.2-inches ambler montgomery county 4-inches of snow in bucks county chalfont 3.6, philadelphia international airport much less around 1 inch of snow and these are the numbers from new jersey and delaware. lawrence township three and .3, mullica hill 2.8, mount holly just over 2-inches, claymont delaware just over an inch and far southern areas in dover around a half inch. we saw a return of sun briefly after that steady snow this morning moved out and that fired up these snow squalls that have been pulling in from the northwest to the south and east. one near wilmington right now, also middletown, smyrna heading into southern new jersey near elmer and crossing over 55 just to the south of woodbury and right between glassboro there. these areas of purple you see is a burst of snow. same thing for speed well through southern parts of burlington county. this heading towards the tip there of long beach island and we have another batch heading towards center city philadelphia. this stretching in montgomery county, the northeast extension near lansdale,

phoenixville and another little pop there near elverson and honey brook so they are hit or miss this evening but they are sudden bursts of snow, quick drop in visibility, a quick coating to a half inch and watch after that sun sets, a quick freeze-up here as temperatures plummet overnight tonight. we'll talk about that cold weekend and of course that storm everyone's talking about monday night and tuesday in that seven-day forecast, guys. >> adam thanks. >> yeah. >> we turn now to the ongoing investigation into a deadly the morning were blaze in chester county. the fire sparked at a home on the 500 block of valley forge road in schuylkill township killing one person and that's where we find "action news" reporter gray hall. gray, you talked to a woman who lived at that home. >> reporter: yes, sharrie, as you can imagine this woman was shaken by all this. she was not inside at the time but her husband was. >> i came home and i could smell it, i could see it and corners of it left apparently, the person on the third floor

passed away. >> reporter: sydney was at work when she passed away where the home where she was renting a home in schuylkill township along the 500 block of valley forge road caught fire. her husband was inside at the time. thankfully he made it out with no injuries. firefighters confirm one person lost their life. the victim's identity is not being released. >> this is the first fatality in schuylkill township we believe in 17 years. >> it could have been a lot more deadly and i'm glad it wasn't but we're still like right now in total limbo as to where we're going to go, what we're going to do, what's recoverable or not. >> reporter: this viewer video shows the intensity of the scene when crews arrived. investigators say they got report of fire about 9:00 a.m. once the flames were out firefighters say they discovered the victim on the third floor. six people were inside at the time including that victim. who we're told lived on the third floor alone. >> heavy fire conditioning on the third floor. there was smoke and water damage on the other two floors. >> reporter: for now what started this fire remains under investigation. and those renting a room

inside the home are in shock and trying to figure out what comes next. >> my emotions are everywhere. it's crazy. i've run the gamut already and i'm probably sure i'm going to dollar it again very shortly. >> reporter: okay, so back out live again we can tell you the cause of this fire still under investigation. no other injuries report odd. firefighters telling us it was contained to that one floor on the third floor in that one particular room. we can also tell you the red cross tonight helping the victims and this home did have working smoke detectors. live in schuylkill township, gray hall, channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> okay, gray, thank you. police in hatfield township say a brawl at a playoff hockey game sent one young player to the hospital last night. well, this is video of the fight that broke out between central bucks west high school and ridley ice hockey club. it happened during the flyers cup class 2a quarterfinal. at that game at the hatfield

ice. at one point the fight even spilled over into the stands where several adults were seen pushing and shoving. two central bucks west players were hurt. one was taken to abington memorial hospital but he's said to be okay;, expected to be. police are now asking anyone with additional video to come forward and central bucks west ended up winning this game seven to one. >> a group of middle school students has been caught with drugs at one school in chester county. they had edible marijuana at the marsh creek sixth grade center in the downingtown area school district. the students involved are now facing tough consequences including possible expulsion. principal tom mulvey released a video message warning edible drugs could be laced with something even worse than marijuana. >> no one who ate it would ever necessarily know if there was something else added to it that was dangerous, more dangerous or potentially something that would increase the effects of an already dangerous drug.

>> a teachable moment here. the principal went on to say that overdoses are happening at an alarming rate in. country and he urged students to alert an adult if their friends are using drugs. officials in dover delaware say this 30-year-old man critically injured a senior citizen while trying to run from police. officers were trying to stop erick wyatte for beating on his ex-girlfriend's vehicle yesterday morning but he jumped into his suv and took off hitting a 71-year-old woman and a parked cadillac before crashing. wyatte is now facing a number of charges including vehicular assault and dui. >> today's snow was not enough to stop a festive tradition in wilmington. mayor mike purzycki and the irish culture club painted a green stripe down king street. this is for the city's annual saint patrick's day parade which kicks off tomorrow at noon. the irish club has been painting this green stripe every year for 37 years in a row. >> the eagles have some brand new additions to their roster. today the team officially

announced their -- rather introduced them to the media and to fans. the squall. southern montgomery county right now near willow grove and jenkintown the same thing right around radnor along the blue route extending back towards malvern exton and downing ton along the pennsylvania turnpike they pass through but it's the schuylkill expressway right now that is getting hit hard as well heading towards philadelphia and center city. we're also dealing with these squalls as they're working from the north and west heading into southern new jersey as well. not as intense around here but you see a little pop or two in northern cumberland county. these also heading to the shore line and a lot of these squalls are not going to quiet down until after about 9 o'clock tonight. wind chills are falling into the 20's to the north and west, 34 in millville, so, again, these squalls as we go deeper into the evening if they pass through, they can quickly coat the ground to a half inch and it could accumulate on even the road surfaces as those temperatures tumble past sunset. it's those arctic winds that are coming in supplying these snow squalls at the present time and here's your temperature profile. we are below freezing in
