these exceptional youngsters. >> reporter: as a homeless man sat in the sun on hit inhouse scare he was approached by two boys holding a brown paper bag. >> they are helping homeless people and walked up and asked if i wanted a lunch so i said sure. >> reporter: brady and bradley daniels ages four and six from delaware. >> my idea. >> and me. >> reporter: handing out lunches to the homeless in philadelphia with their parents. >> we made apples, we made peanut butter sandwiches and we made chocolate. >> you put it in the bag. >> reporter: after years of giving out bottles of water stopped at traffic lights the boys got the idea when they were given tickets to the circus for valentine's day. >> come on where is it at, i'm like it's in philadelphia and he was like can we take food to feed the homeless people. >> because they need to have food to make sure they don't die. >> reporter: they gave out

dozens of sandwiches last month and the reception was so positive they came back to do it again. >> makes me smile to see that people are aware of it, you know, i'm still somebody in the world. >> reporter: their careful preparation the boys even put little smiley faces on the sandwich bags and this little symbol met more to one man than they could have imagined. >> we gave him a back and on the way back he was rubbing the smiley face and smiling and that was so touching, you know, that put everything in perspective. >> reporter: then she said they saw the man fold up the bag and put it in his pocket to save it for another day trish hartman channel six action news. ♪ still to come on action news he saved her from the raging waters of hurricane katrina 12 years ago and now this pilot and that little girl have reunited and how that day set her life on a new course for the future when action news comes right back.

a girl rescued from hurricane katrina had a special guest at her banquet this weekend the hero who rescued her and joined the rotc event nearly 12 years he lifted the youngster from the flood waters and shared a hug and smile for the camera and in 2015 he set out to find her once again and reunited on a t.v. show he said that happy picture got him through some rough times. >> you rescued me more than i rescued you. >> reporter: the two have become true friends and lashay is planning on a career in the military and marone is helping her out. finally tonight a school teacher from canada who encourages acts of kindness in a small arctic community has won a one million prize, maggie mcdonald was this year's winner of the global teacher prize for the past years
