measure or were not aligned with the gop leadership. this protest outside congressman brian fitzpatrick's office one of many pressures exerted in the battle over healthcare plans. there are others. >> in this case this bill you will. so, you got to figure out what's best for the country. >> the pressure was extraordinary and you really have to redefine how you feel and how the lining of your stomach is going to react. it is tough. >> reporter: democrat marjorie margolis and republican john fox battled each other to represent pennsylvania's 13th district in the 1990's. margolis once took a call from a president switched her vote and that helped cost her reelection. as for the obamacare repeal and replace drama paying out in d.c., both agree republicans not aligned with their leadership are feeling the heat. >> it's really perfect storm.

"action news" reporter gray hall is live in lansdale tonight where the suspect lives. gray. >> reporter: well, rick, this is the suspect's last known address but you need a security code to gain access. we did buzz his unit. there was no response. police tell us that he last coached youth hockey back in 2010 and right now they're working to see if there are any more victims. >> although the reported incidents occurred almost 30 years ago, the law echoes the sentiment of the community that these types of terrible crimes which violate public

trust should be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. >> reporter: police accuse 55-year-old walter tracy ferinden of sexual abuse dating back to the 80's and 90's. it was last year that police in delaware and in much were made aware of the allegations against the former youth hockey coach. police say he used his position and authority to befriend kids and eventually abuse them. >> the defendant committed the crime of sexual contact by intentionally touching an intimate part of the vices body for sexual gratification. >> reporter: three victims have come forward two from delaware one from new jersey, all were boys under the age of 18 at the time of the alleged crimes. we've learned that ferinden had connections to the holly dale ice arena in and washington township new jersey. no one would talk on cameras. workers tell me he was never employed there or had contact with their players. they say he only rented the rink to hold skating clinics. we did confirmnc

coached at the stating club of delaware. the assistant manager says ferinden once coached her son. >> he was shocked, very shocked. you ner he never stayed at my house, you know,d anything to my son. >> reporter: police say this is a multi state investigation that goes beyond new jersey and delaware. ferinden also coached and conducted skating clinics in pennsylvania, new york and vermont. >> the defendant's arrest does not mark the end of this have yet to comerward. back out live we can tell you the suspect turned himself in to police on monday. he is now out on bail. we tried to reach his attorney. he was not available for comment but again, the fear here is there could be more victims out there. if you think you were a victim, you know someone that may have been you should contact police. live in lansdale, gray hall, channel6 "action news." alicia. >> gray, thank you. no arrests in the murder of a mother and her

six-year-old son in maple shade. they were found stabbed to death inside their fox meadow apartment last night. now, the have ick tim's husband called police when he said he found the bodies of his wife and son. they have been identified. >> sorry for the family. i feel very sorry for them. losing a -- his wife and his child. it's unbearable. >> again, no arrests have been made in this double murder and the investigation continues. >> local prosecutors are calling for the state of pennsylvania to restore mandatory minimum sentence for violent offenders. representative tom stevens is the sponsors of house bill 741. in 2015, the state got rid of mandatory sentences for certain crimes. among them, child rape and assault on an elderly person as well as committing violence with a firearm and dealing large quantities of drugs. earlier this week the bill cleared the statehouse

philadelphia. and we have picking up some higher gusts out of the west-southwesterly direction ahead of the arrival of even warmer air for the start of our weekend. here's satellite6 along with action radar. you can see it's dry and quiet although earlier today we had this frontal boundary its now lifting off to our north and east so we're stuck in the clouds and the sun starting to make a late day appearance before it turns partly cloudy for the rest of tonight but i do want to show you the numbers out to the west. right now in philadelphia we're sitting at 58. but it's 80 degrees in chicago. 74 in detroit. if you look closely you could really see where that front is. it's about 43 degrees cooler in green bay with a temperature of just 37, sault ste. marie coming in the a 38 degrees. so we have changes arriving. won't be that dramatic but as we get into the second half of our weekend it will not be that warm. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight partly cloudy, mild, we'll drop down to 44 in the suburbs and 50 degrees in philadelphia for the overnight low with that west to southwesterly wind. tomorrow as we go throughout the day at least for the first

6:30 following "action news" at 6:00. >> to other news tonight former penn state football coach and convicted child molester jerry sandusky is fighting for a new trial. chad pradelli was in belfont center county today where sandusky's new lawyers are pushing for a retrial. >> reporter: jerry sandusky has a new judge in his quest for a new trial but it was the old face he took the stand at today's hearing. jerry sandusky seemed in that good spirits as he walked into center county court. >> how you doing today? you ready. >> reporter: his attorney al lindsey called his first witness former defense attorney joe amendola. he accused amendola of providing ineffective counsel. amendola has said all along he didn't have enough time to prepare. >> we had so much going on. we were trying to still sift through discovery materials that were just filtering in to us and we were trying to do those things at the time we were trying to get ready for trial. and try the casism lindsey accused amendola of serving up

sandusky in his hastily arranged phone interview with bob costas shortly after being charged pointing to this awkward answer when asked if he was attracted to young boys. >> you know, i -- i injoe young people. i -- i love to be around them. i -- i -- but no, i'm not sexually attracted to young boys. >> reporter: amendola argued he needed jerry to profess his innocence and curry favor to the media. >> so, it wasn't as if i got involved in this case the week before and just threw him on the phone and said talk to bob costas. >> reporter: defense attorneys also called a psychiatrist and two state troopers to the stand. they tried to prove that trio coached the victims to change their stories and drum up the allegations. >> when someone says i can't say what happened, and then they say well this is what everybody else is saying, or this is what we think you should say, thts suggestive questioning and this type of case that type of questioning

is -- it shall we say raises a lot of credibility issues. >> reporter: and more hearings are scheduled to take place in may and then judge fedora will make a decision on whether the convicted pedophile will get a new trial. in belfont chad pradelli channel6 "action news." >> in other news a philadelphia police officer has been charged and arrested with animal cruelty. 33-year-old michael long is accused of abandoning his dog and the leaving her for dead in a trash bag. back in november a good samaritan found the pitbull in a track bag. the dog was severely emaciated but after months of rehab and care cranberry has recovered. long has been suspended for 30 days with the intent to fire. a violent assault in montgomery county sent two roommates to the hospital. police were called to the 800 block of arch street in norristown around 6:30 this morning. when they arrived a 42-year-old man covered in blood charged at them. police used a taser to subdue the man.

they found his 30-year-old roommate with a stab wound to his mouth and nasal area. both men were taken to the hospital for treatment. the suspect is charged with aggravated assault. his bond is set at $99,000 cash. now from our delaware news room. a truck driver was seriously injured when a deer flew through its windshield this morning. the man was driving along lancaster pike about 10. ooh 30 when another car crashed into the deer and the animal flew into his truck. the man was taken to christiana hospital with injuries to his face head and upper body o the animal did not survive. >> a trio roof suspects is under arrest accused of pulling off nearly n car break-ins its story our new jersey news room is following today. you can see the trio right here. state police arrested claudia o'leary, 20-year-old dallas smith of eldridge and the 19-year-old germy hornacek of cape may. they're accused of breaking

into at least 23 cars in upper and dennis townships beginning october of last year. the suspects reportedly took money electronics jewelry credit cards and other items. detectives added that most of the cars that were targeted were left unlocked. >> new jersey governor chris christie paid a visit to the department of human services today. he stopped by the offices in trenton to acknowledge and celebrate the work of staff members. he recognized them for community based programs and services for residents with mental illnesses. from healthcare to technology and more, local employers were looking for new workers today in willingboro. the burlington county spring job fair was held at the kennedy center. the county's workforce development institute hosted the event. along with meeting with different companies the job seekers were invited to take part in a resume writing workshop. >> a new study suggested more than $200 million in highway construction funds are being diverted to subsidize the

>> ♪ >> we are following breaking news for you at this hour. chopper6 hd is live over as you can see a fire that is still burning at this hour in bucks county. fire crews battling that now two alarm blaze in croydon. the fire broke out just after 5 o'clock on the 2900 block of state road. as you can see, fire, those flames still coming through the roof of that building. it is a very active fire. the crews working to put out out at this hour. it has ineighty two evidence tincreased to a twoalarm fire. so far no injuries reported.

sun setting. a little after 7 o'clock tonight. the high in philadelphia coming in at 58, 2 degrees above where we normally should be for this time of year. average is 56. the record 76 set back in 1988. some locations tomorrow will max out in the lower 70's. we've got a southwesterly wind, so it's 55 in wilmington, 56 for reading and allentown and the poconos, 43. at the coast in cape may its a touch cooler with that south facing wind, 48 and 47 degrees in beach haven. winds are sustained anywhere from 9 miles per hour in allentown, 10 in reading, 20 miles per hour in that philadelphia, 12 there in millville and we are picking up some higher gusts out of the southwest. and it will be that southwesterly wind that gets us above average for the start of the weekend. here's satellite6 along with action radar. we have a frontal boundary moving through lifting well off to our north and as it does it will help supply us with a fresh warm air that works its way into our region as we get into sunday. so, the next -- tomorrow i should say, so the next 12

hours partly cloudy, it is mild, 50 the overnight low in philadelphia, 45 in reading, 44 in allentown, 45 degrees in cape may. down in dover, coming in at 52 and 48 degrees in trenton. here's the setup for us on our saturday. the start of the weekend. we've got high pressure to the north. then we're tracking this frontal boundary. so, tomorrow having a high temperature of 74, well above average. it will be warmer with a bit of a milky sky and depending on how quickly this front moves on through it could have an impact on our temperatures. we may have to watch this number very closely. nonetheless cooler at the shore with that south facing wind. as we get into sunday the front dips farther to the south so we're tapping into an easterly wind at seven to 14 miles per hour. it's cloudy and we have that occasional drizzle, a high temperature on sunday, a cooler day of just 50 degrees. the here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, enjoy the first half of the day on saturday. it's warmer but we will be tracking some showers late in the day as that front makes some progress to the south.

the republican healthcare plan speaker paul ryan canceled the vote that was spue evidenc suppe today. in the parlance of the congress he pulled the bill. what that means is that obamacare remains the law of the happened for the foreseeable future. at a late afternoon news conference ryan said this. >> we were a 10 year opposition party. we're being against things was easy to do. you just had to be against it. and now in three months time we try to go to a governing party where we actually have to get 216 people to agree with each other on how we do things and we just weren't quite there today. we will get there but we weren't there today. >> shortly after that, we got reaction from the white house. of course president trump campaigned on repeal and replace guaranteeing that he could make the deal. it didn't happen today. and late today, president trump spoke from the white house and said it's now up to the democrats to save healthcare. >>
