across the nation. supporters of president trump gathered in several cities today. day after the president suffered a stunning legislature defeat on healthcare. alongside the rallies were hundreding opposed to the president as well and his policies. bob brooks is live in center city with the story. bob? >> reporter: walter, both sides here out in full force today in philadelphia. pro trump and protesters against. and there was a lot of passion and that's what democracy is all about. things may have turn violent in philadelphia but it didn't because of the great work of our police force. today started out as a pro trump rally on independence mall >> i wanted to lend support for our country and president. >> reporter: heard from numerous speakers. and participated in patriotic songs, tension got turned up.

mass protest groups igniting flares and smoke, burning things on the road: according to the trump rally, plan was to march from the mall to the art museum steps but was asked by the police to cancel the march for fear the violence. he arrived. >> we were asked by the chief of police to leave because of the fact of the violence. worried and concerned about men, women and children. i can understand that. >> reporter: as a result, the protesters matched down in fact street. trying to block the cameras, once they reached logan square, chaos erupted. some members of the trump rally decided to march. some as well. the protesters. the two groups were set to clash. but never really were able to. the philadelphia police department won their stars

today. the police were always one step ahead to insure safety. plus both group were able to march. keeping things in order today was not easy and at times seemed like it was on the breaking point. >> things never got violent because of the men and women in blue. that's the real story today. that certainly was the story and after all of that that you saw, there only two citations were handed out. and again just an amazing job by the philadelphia police department. reporting live at independence mall, bob brooks, channel 6 action news. those rallies come day after the failure of the republican attempt to pass a healthcare reform bill is despite a 44 member majority in the house. today, the gop is regrouping and president trump is tweeting before heading out to play golf this morning, the president fired off this to tweet reiterating his belief that obamacare will quote explode and promming that a new healthcare plan will eventually emerge. yesterday, house >> congress wasn't ready.

let's move on to jim chirico live in center city with more on the warm weather. jeff? >> it's still nice out here, even though it has cooled down a bit since the rain moved through. here in rittenhouse square folks spent the day enjoying the outdoor, some are eating outside trying to enjoy the last of final few hours this beautiful spring day. even with ugly signs of winter lingering. folks in philadelphia headed outdoors to relish the warm weather >> we got barbecue chicken legs. >> reporter: this family spent the day cooking up an outdoor feast after a long winter indoors. >> tired of being in the house. come outside enjoy the air, enjoy good old barbecue with friends. >> the day was perfect to do just would you anything. from laying low to flying high. >> it's beautiful. >> only thing i can say, i slipped out to get out of here. >> r found many dining

firefighters got the flames under control about 30 minutes ago. officials believe a backyard grill may be to blame but the fire is still under investigation, no reported injuries at this time. scare for a family in cobbs creek when a 6-year-old went missing, the child trevor montgomery was last seen in his bedroom about 9:30 last night. when his family went to check on him this morning about 8:00, he was not there. disappearance sparked a frantic search but we're happy to report he was found safe right around 1:00 this afternoon. but the details surrounding his disappearance remain unknown. pedestrian was seriously injured in drexel hill this morning after being struck by a car about 8:00 a.m. on state road. the driver stopped at the scene, no word if charges will be filed. police in philadelphia are investigating a deadly shooting in the city's summer dale section. happened on tvictim was rushed o

einstein where he died a short time later. investigators not revealed a possible motive and no arrests have been made. from our delaware newsroom, police in wilmington are investigating a deadly shooting there. it happened at about 12:30 this afternoon right in the downtown area in front of the popular lid dia's restaurant. someone shot a man in the head there. the victim was rushed to hospital where he died. no arrests have been made. from our new jersey newsroom, police in hamilton township are piecing together a home invasion, before 2:30 this morning at a home in marian court, three masked men armed with handguns burst into the house. the men bound a man an wanly pistol whipping the man, they got away with jewelry and several handgun, a 14 was inside the home at the time but not injured. dozens of people slept on cardboard boxes in center city to raise money for the covenant house. in the courtyard of the friend center of the 1500 block of

brad fox junior born six months after his father died. all proceeds go towards the brad fox scholarship fund and the ronald mcdonald house in philadelphia. mayor jim kenney. helped finished a mural honoring juice creating and james hind. she was the first female firefighter to die in the line of duty in 2014. heinz, who died in 1997 worked in the same neighborhood as craig. hugs and hands shakes in coatesville as a neighborhood welcomed five new families, were given certificates of chaec achievement and keys. each was built by volunteers from habitat for humanity in who were on hand to see their work pay off. hind

outside. the action cam was outside earlier, there at university city, a lot of folks walking around enjoying the warmth we had earlier and things are starting to change. right now in philadelphia, it is 60 degrees after a high today of 77, so we're still well above average. 73 in lancaster. atlantic city had a record high of 81. right now, with the cold front coming on through, it's 58. 56 in cape may, 66 down in dover and 68 degrees in wilmington. the 24 hour temperature change starting to vary a little bit as the cooler air makes progress to the south. so it's 20 agrees warmer in millville but you notice in philadelphia, it's three degrees warmer, so that cooler air is shunting southward as we go throughout the rest of the evening none tonight. here's action radar you can see the fronts, and it's dipping down to the south and that's why we have those showers overhead. high pressure to the north but a cool canadian high moves on through and because of that, it will be much colder. you going to notice a big difference come tomorrow.
