meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the big board with the latest information. >> jim, the system is loaded with moisture much it's very big. the center of the storm that's really taking over is south of our region and well to the north, heavy snow in parts of new england, more than a foot of snow and south some severe weather, tornado watches are posted and there's a tornado warning near norfolk virginia and we're actually detecting some of that circulation. you can see that cylinder there, that's what's known as a low level lock. it's reaching the ground and that's an indication of a possible tornado down there. fortunately here we're not getting the severe weather. we're getting the steady rain and zooming in on double scan live you can see that the steady rain is now really focused across new jersey along the new jersey turnpike and areas to the east. philadelphia getting a break in the action. west of philadelphia the steady rain has tapered off to showers. that's an indication the storm system is lifting away from us. so, we'll gradually be tapering off as far as rain tonight. which actually is a good thing

because you can see we've gotten soaked. philadelphia 1.3-inches, wilmington more than an inch and a half, ally town and -- allentown and trenton more than an inch atlantic city more than an inch of rain. we have had flooding. the christina river there's flooding now. a flood watch is posted for our entire viewing area until 2 o'clock tomorrow morning for the potential for localized flooding. tonight the rain exits, lingering showers, up to about midnight. so until then ponding of roads reduced visibility not a nice night for traveling and also a chilly breeze up to about 25 miles per hour. i. tracking the return of sunshine but then two more storms on the way. i'll have details on that in the seven-day forecast. jim. >> of course cecily you can track the wet weather on 6abc.com. just keep an eye on the rain with storm tracker6 and check the hourly forecasts and be sure to follow our accuweather team on social media for the latest updates. >> ♪ we have breaking news from

the point breeze section of philadelphia tonight. two people have been stabbed, on 19th street between dickinson and tasker. one of them is dead. let's go to the scene and "action news" reporter dann cuellar. >> reporter: homicide and crime scene investigators on the scene in the 1500 block of south 19th. right now they're talking to relatives who have been arriving here on the scene. on the 1900 block of south 19th. in the last few minutes a horrific crime scene inside this row home. here's what we know right now. a man, arrived here at the home just before 4 o'clock and found both of his parents stabbed repeatedly. police report that a 63-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times about her body and was pronounced dead at the scene. her husband a 67-year-old had been stabbed once in the neck and once in the chest but was still alive. he was immediately transported to penn presbyterian hospital where he's listed in critical condition. now, it's unclear at this time if he was able to say anything to his son before he was taken

away by paramedics. now, new information we're getting just a few moments ago that investigators will be talking to relatives, have been talking to relatives. police are telling us that there's no danger to the community so it sounds like they kind of have an idea of who may be involved. sources are telling us there was no forced entry that the house is pristine other than a very bloody bedroom upstairs. they're leaning on the possibility that this could be a domestic case, a also did case involving a relative. but right now beyond that they're not telling us anything some. we know the names of the victims but we are withholding them at this time until relatives can be notified of what has transpired here at this hour. again, a 63-year-old woman stabbed to death. her 67-year-old husband listed in critical condition with stab wounds to the neck and chest. this is a developing story. we'll have more later on "action news" at 6abc.com. for now live here in the point breeze sec, i'm dann cuellar

channel6 "action news." back to you, jim. >> all right, and at least one person was seriously injured in a head-on crash in roxborough this afternoon. the accident happened 3:30 on henry avenue near barn street. a 60-year-old man was trapped in the wreckage, had to be rescued by first responders. he was taken to einstein medical center with serious injuries. philadelphia police have made an arrest in that shooting in northern liberties on monday evening. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live at the scene with the latest on this. and bob what's the update here? >> reporter: jim, we're talking about that sniper style attack that happened outside of delilah's much police arrested a 29-year-old man from mount airy. they say he did the shooting from out of there right across the street from that apartment complex that's going up right now and i'm hearing from detectives that his goal was to simply shoot anyone that he could. it's a sigh of relief for

neighbors tonight in northern liberties. philadelphia police say the ma and who is hack you had coo of acting as a sniper and tried to shoot and kill two people in delilah's parking lot has been caught. >> very relieved. it's pretty awesome. >> i'm excited to hear that. hopefully, you know, it will help the area to improve as far as crime rate but who knows, right? >> reporter: we're told the shooter's 29-year-old lawrence mitchell of mount airy. today police also gave us more details about the attack, they're disturbing. detectives say mitchell's motive simply wanted to kill anyone and it's possible he has mental health issues. >> and the minds of people today, you know, something needs to be done. it really does. >> reporter: now police say mitchell was acting as a sniper when he fired from that building. they say he used an ar-15 rifle with a scope. and then fired those shots into delilah's parking lot. the intended target a woman walking to her truck. the bullets missed but hit her truck twice. detectives say he also tried to shoot another man and as a

result he's been charged with two counts of at at the present timed murder of he did not have the rifle legally. now, how did police track mitchell down? they say that was through surveillance video. they got a picture of his license plate and found him in gloucester township new jersey. right now he's being held in camden county. reporting live in northern liberties bob brooks channel6 "action news." jim. >> all right, bob, thank you. philadelphia district attorney seth williams said again today that he will not resign despite being indicted for alleged bribery. but he will take the voluntary step of suspending his license to practice law. williams was back in federal court for a hearing today. he also has a new attorney representing him in this case thomas burke is a former colleague. williams will remain in office in an administrative role. the camden county medical examiner said today that twin seven month old sisters died of natural causes. but the county prosecutor's office didn't reveal details

of the deaths. jessenia and juliana rodriguez garnett were found unresponsive by their mother. they were the their cribs inside their lindenwold apartment on march 22nd. the sister's funeral will take place at worcester funeral home in clementon tomorrow. a man hit by two vehicles in mill creek delaware last night has died. police haven't released the identity of the 53-year-old. the incident happened on kirkwood highway near green bank road just before 9 o'clock. police say the first driver fled the scene. the second driver stopped. officials say the victim was not walking in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing. 18 former prison inmates now have skills to better their communities and themselves. today they graduated from the pennsylvania horticultural society's reentry boot camp. mayor jim kenney was at the headquarters in center city to congratulate the graduates on their hard work. the four week intensive

program trains former inmates for green jobs. they spent that time in the field learning skills on landscaping, tree and plant care and equipment safety. pennsylvania governor tom wolf joined city officials to break ground today on a new low income apartment complex in strawberry mansion. 55 homes will be built on this site allowing families to grow roots in the community. each of those units will be energy efficient and handicapped accessible. city officials say this is the first of several developments planned for this neighborhood. a community meeting took place in atlantic city today. in an unusual location a local barbershop much atlantic city's mayor don guardian along with several police officers met with residents to listen to their concerns. the forum took place at the casino city barbershop. organizers say the forum was a chance to establish trust and to break down barriers between the police and the community.

>> 40 women were honored for their leadership at philadelphia city hall today. councilman kenyatta johnson hosted the third annual women's history month luncheon much the women were celebrated for their many achievements some their careers and in their communities in philadelphia. a 92-year-old veteran celebrated his birthday today with a military tribute inside the super market where he works. robert long berger's colleagues threw him a part where he received a cake. he served in both world two and in korea. he has been a bagger at the allentown giant store since 2002. and in another giant in conshohocken 93-year-old terry dee gennaro celebrated 20 years on the job today. colleagues friends and family held a surprise party for her in the store's break room. the lafayette hill resident works every friday behind the counter making prepared foods. she's the mother a grandmother

a great grandmother but still finds time for her hobbies such as dancing and occasionally hitting the casino. students at a middle school in trenton unveiled an extraordinary piece of artwork today that truly represents the student's diversity of life experiences. "action news" reporter katherine scott has that story. >> reporter: it's one work of art filled with many others. a 48 square foot alter book quilt assembled 180 students at hedge path williams middle school in trenton a myriad of little details reflecting the many minds behind it. >> tapestry of students and so this is like a perfect example of our school because we're made up of all these different people from all these different places with all these different philosophies. >> reporter: this quilt came together thanks to the school's partnership with bucks air a nonprofit that puts professional artists like colleen and cara into classrooms to collaborate with

up to the north heading towards jacksonville. these areas are under a flood advisory. philadelphia right now not raining but we will see a few more showers as we head through the evening hours. there have been some areas of flooding in addition, the christina river right now is cresting about a half foot above flood stage, some minor flooding there. most of our region seeing well more than an inch of rain. right now it's also on the cold side. 49 degrees. that's our high for philadelphia today as we close out the month of march running a degree and a half below normal. our first below normal temperature month since last may. cape may not quite as cool pretty close 50-degrees allentown 42 and wilmington 43. satellite and radar showing the storm system low pressure over the ohio valley has transferred its energy to low pressure over virginia. south of that they're getting severe weather with possible tornadoes near virginia beach. here, though, that steady rain again is beginning to lift out

but it's going to be awhile before we can get rid of all the moisture in the atmosphere so future tracker showing around 11 o'clock tonight still a few scattered showers around, the steady rain is over. tomorrow morning you wake up, it's cloudy but the rain is out of here by 9 o'clock and as we head through the day, we'll get the winds out of the northwest. that will gradually get rid of the clouds but it's going to take awhile, probably by about 5 o'clock we'll see at least some peeks of sunshine. temperatures will climb out of the 40's but a high of 52 degrees. that's 66 degrees below normal. but the better of the two days this weekend definitely sunday. the sunshine is back with high pressure building in and temperatures rebound pretty nicely up to 61 degrees, 3 degrees above normal. that high pressure moves out on monday after our next storm system rolls back in. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, moment it's breezy, it's cool, it's mostly cloudy, again at least some partial sunshine late in the

day before the sun sets. the afternoon high, though, only 52 degrees. sunday try to get outside enjoy the weather. loads of sunshine a lot milder with a high of 61 degrees. on monday though the clouds roll in pretty quickly. our next storm system looks pretty similar to today's storm. rain arriving late in the day on monday, monday night the high 60 degrees and tuesday will be a washout. periods of rain through the day, heavy at times, perhaps even some thunderstorms especially south of philadelphia could receive more than an inch of rain again. 58 degrees and then wednesday high pressure moves in briefly. partly sunny and mild, a beautiful day, 64 degrees. but then we've got another storm system moving in on thursday. looks like by thursday afternoon, a round of rain developing, 62 degrees. friday it's the phillies home opener -- jeff is looking at me right now. looks like we'll have rain
