departments including temple university and housing police are on the scene at this hour following this very deadly exchange of gunfire. the nature of which could possiblely drug related. what we know is that four people were shot. three of them are now dead. another clinging to life at hahnemann university hospital. police responded to reports of shots fired here sometime after 3:30 this afternoon. twenty-second district officers arrived a short time later to find that the four people had been shot. two later died at hahnemann. another died at temple university hospital. this according to police. and again, a fourth person, a 26-year-old, is alive and being treated at hahnemann. what precipitated this violence we still don't know but police are telling us one of the victims was shot multiple times including twice in the head. no weapons have been recovered and no arrests have been made but again, four people shot, three of them are now dead. one clinging to life following a very deadly exchange of

gunfire. the nature of which right now appears to be possibly be drug related. we hope to have more later. live, dann cuellar channel6 "action news." back guys. >> thank you dann. >> there is an investigation into some abuse and neglect that happened in west philadelphia where police say a disabled man was left in critical condition. >> officials say a family member dropped the man off at a hospital over the weekend and has not been seen since. the police were called to the hospital after doctors discovered the man's body was covered in bedsores. and now they're trying to find out who did this. >> "action news" reporter walter perez live along conestoga street. walter you're first to report this story tonight. >> reporter: guys as you mentioned this is an "action news" exclusive. a really disturbing story involving the home you see behind me here in west philadelphia involving what one police official described to me as one of the worst cases of neglect he's ever seen. katherine williams says she knew that one of her neighbors was caring for a relative who

became a paraplegic after a traffic accident. so, katherine says, she did what she could to help the man she knew only as david. >> he was like cold a little bit so i crochet and i made him a blanket to put around his legs to keep him warm. >> reporter: over the past few months she lost touch with her neighbors. then this past weekend, investigators from the philadelphia police special victims unit started walking around the unit block of north conestoga street showing pictures of david in the hospital covered with bedsores. >> i didn't know what was going on until they told me yesterday these cops came around showing pictures and i didn't know that he was that bad off. i didn't know he was sick like that. >> reporter: the investigation started when an unidentified woman brought david to bryn mawr hospital this past friday. officials there quickly transferred him to jefferson hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. authorities say by the time david arrived at jefferson, he was unresponsive and covered with soars in varying stations

of ulceration all over his body. authorities also say the would. who brought david to the hospital, has not returned to see him since he was admitted. katherine williams says she never saw this coming. >> this hurt me to my stomach. i'm just worried and i pray that god pull him through. >> reporter: now, there are still a lot of questions about this case because the woman who brought david to the hospital identified herself as david's sister but neighbors here say the woman living inside the house with him identified herself as david's mother. so, the charge is aggravated assault by neglect but right now, no clearly identified suspects in this case. anyone with any information is asked to call the special victims unit. reporting live from west philadelphia, walter perez channel6 "action news": monica. >> thank you walter. fire erupted overnight at a used car lot in camden. the search is on tonight for what sparked it. four cars were damaged by the flames much the lot is on carmen street near 17th. chopper6 hd over the scene of a house fire here in north

philadelphia. flames coming from the roof near the intersection of eighth and clearfield. firefighter its were able to get the flames under control quickly. fortunately no one was hurt. >> defense attorneys in bill cosby's sex assault case want to keep the jury from hearing the comedian's deposition testimony about getting quaaludes and giving them to women before sex. cosby is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman in his suburban philadelphia home back in 2004. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live outside of montgomery county courthouse tonight. vern, there was no ruling on the defense request today, so what now? >> reporter: no there was not, rick. good evening to you. judge steven o'neill normally does not make his rulings from the bench immediately after a hearing is over. he waits for written arguments and hears all the arguments by the lawyers in court then he issues his ruling sometime later on in a written statement. crucial questions were argued before judge steven o'neill

today. example, will jurors be allowed to hear cosby's 10-year-old deposition testimony about allegedly using quaaludes to seduce women back in the 70's. and financial settlements with women who have accused him of drugging and molesting them in the past. then argument about the prosecutors possible use of excerpts from an early cosby book about the aphrodisiac known about spanish fly. they argue it was commonly rifts. the jury will be selected from a pool of 2,000 from allegany county, the pittsburgh area. those selections will be made out there late next month a judge says with the jury and alternates brought back here for the trial set to begin june 5th. the trial will feature testimony from the alleged victim andrea constand who says cosby drugged and molested her back in 2004 and in his cheltenham mansion. no criminal charges were ever brought then but the canadian native eventually settled a

civil suit against cosby for a hefty sum. monica, again, the could cosby trial set to begin june 5th. it will likely be the biggest american trial in history. live from the courthouse in norristown, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> thank you vernon. a judge heard testimony today to consider throwing out eric frein's videotaped convention of the 2014 ambush killing of a pennsylvania trooper. no word on a ruling yet. in the meantime, opening statements in that trial are expected to get under way tomorrow. the alleged attack by frein took the life of corporal bryan dickson and injured trooper alex douglass. frein eluded police for 48 days until he was captured by u.s. marshals. >> law enforcement in russia searching to are two suspects in the subway bombing that killed 10 people and wounded 40 others. officials say they believe a man planted a device that

the clouds are rolling in but despite that temperatures pretty mild for this time of the year. 64 degrees in philadelphia. washington, d.c. 66. new york city a little bit cooler, 56 degrees. double scan live showing that there is a powerful system to the southeast. we've had reports of close to a dozen tornadoes in georgia and we're just going to be clipped with that as it moves into our region region later tot so definitely need your umbrella late tonight into early tomorrow morning. so future tracker showing around midnight this is when the showers will be breaking out. looks like we'll get the steadiest overnight into the very early morning hours. so, this is what to expect, that rain will be breaking out from the southwest to the northeast, the heaviest between midnight and 6 o'clock in the morning. don't be surprised if you a rumble of thunder. the little kids may be running to your bed. i know my dogs won't be liking it and it will cause ponding on roads early tomorrow morning. this is just the first of two systems rolling through this week.

greenwood was not random but they do not have a motive. the 30 year veteran was shot outside a courthouse in baytown east of houston. a nearby school was locked down during the search for the shooter but the gunman got away. the coast guard unloaded 12,000 pounds of cocaine in san diego. the drugs were intercepted by coast guard cutters off the coast of central and south america. the mission included a new weapon in the war on drugs. the coast guard says a drone flew 35 missions giving them as eye view of the cocaine earlier this year. >> turning to health check ton tonight flu season may be winding down. >> ali gorman has the word from the big board. >> this is a reminder the cdc recommends all children six months and older should be vaccinated against the flu. we're seeing evidence that it could prevent most of the young lives lost due to complications of the virus. a government study found three of every four kids who died

from the flu wasn't vaccinated. and kids who are at high risk for flu complications such as those with asthma or chronic lung or heart disease, accounted for more than half of those deaths. the children who get flu shots have a much lower chance of getting the flu or its complications. even in years when the vaccine isn't as effective. an experimental treatment for a brain cancer called glioblastoma is showing promise. it works by creating a low level electrical filed at the tumor site. the electrical currents disrupt the ability of the cancer cells to grow and divide so they die. in tests where it was used along with chemotherapy patients lived nearly five months longer than those who got chemotherapy alone. half of dozen cancer centers in the u.s. are studying this so we'll be hearing much more about it in the future. and baseball season is back in full swing. the phillies are playing in cincinnati today.

right now it's not raining but here's another view of our sky take a look over philadelphia international airport. sky6 the clouds have rolled in after a lot of sunshine earlier today but temperatures not bad. the average high for this time of the year is 59. currently 64 degrees in philadelphia. allentown 65. wilmington 60. notice, though, right along the shore with ocean temperatures in the 40's, cape may is quite a bit cooler, only 50 degrees. tomorrow our average high jumps up to 60 degrees and take a look at this. in one month our average high 70. two months, 80 and then three months in july we'll be explaining it's too hot, the average high jumps up to 87 degrees. satellite and radar showing the clouds rolling in and you can see some showers out to the west from the system that is bringing some severe weather down across the deep south, georgia about a dozen tornadoes today. this system moves in as we head later on tonight. so, future tracker showing around 10 o'clock tonight probably seeing a few scattered showers breaking out.

the steadier rain waiting until after midnight. 2 o'clock in the morning don't be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder, could get a few embedded thunderstorms but this system is pretty progressive. it's pretty fast. so, by 7:30, just a few leftover showers and then actually we'll see a good amount of sunshine during the day, some peeks of sunshine but future tracker showing late in the afternoon with this sunshine with temperatures in the mid 70's, we will have some instability showers and thunderstorms. you can see they're widely scattered. not everyone will get them and also showing that the best dynamic of some heavy thunderstorms will be up across the poconos, mercer county and areas to the north and future tracker showing those are areas that will see the heaviest rainfall. the poconos could get more than 2-inches of rain. and this is on top of the fact that over the past three weeks they had about 30-inches of snow melt. here in philadelphia, about a half inch but there is a flood watch posted for the poconos and mercer county tonight with the potential for some localized flooding. here, though, we're looking at

london for us tonight with more. good evening, molly. >> reporter: monica, good evening. now authorities here in russia have launched a terrorism investigation. no confirmation yet on who they're looking for. a possible terror attack in saint petersburg. underground an explosion tearing through the subway. now president trump reacting back in washington. >> terrible. terrible thing. happening all over the world. absolutely a terrible thing. >> reporter: the death toll still rising and dozens injured. it was an unidentified device exploding on a train traveling 22en two stations. at 2:40 p.m. monday the explosion, then seconds later, smoke filled one of the stations. one eyewitness describing it all on a text message. there was a jolt and a bang, sparks smoke appeared with the smell of gun powder. some panicked he said is. in the neighboring carriage there was no light.

these pictures posted on social media showing the immediate chaos unfolding. emergency crews rushing to the scene treating the injured rescuing survivors. 20 minutes later another bomb diffused at a different station rigged with shrapnel. the city's subway system shut down. regulation president vladimir putin was nearby in saint petersburg at the time of the blast. gorsuch is a mainstream judge who will be interest from president trump. democrats say gorsuch's answers were so "dill lewdd with ambiguity it's not clear where he stands on big and long settled cases." >> president trump and republican lawmakers talked about invoking the so-called nuclear option when it can ums to judge gorsuch's appointment to the bench. what does that mean its a technical term. because senate democrats on the judiciary committee are filibustering the nomination the senate majority leader mitch mcconnell can use the "nuclear option." he can rewrite the rules of the senate to only require 51 votes, that is a simple majority to end the debate on gorsuch's nomination and proceed to final votes. it normally would take 60 votes but then it would only be 51 in this case. using the nuclear option by the way is not unprecedented. democrats used the same strategy when appellate court nominees were being blocked by republicans back in 2013. >> white house senior adviser and president trump's son-in-law jared kushner met

with iraq's prime minister in iraq today. kushner was invited by the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff joseph dunford. they reportedly talked about the battle of mosul training and arming of iraqi forces and support of the international coalition for iraq. this is kushner's first visit to iraq since assuming a broad portfolio of foreign affairs in the trump presidency. and world news tonight with david muir will have much more on jared kushner's meeting with the iraqi prime minister as well as judge neil gorsuch's confirmation hearings and the latest on that subway attack in saint petersburg russia. you can watch it tonight at 6:30 following "action news" at 6:00. >> a man was shot on the streets of north philadelphia today. police are still trying to figure out why. chopper6 was over the scene in the 2300 block of harold street. officers responding found the victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. he was rushed to temple university hospital for treatment but died. detectives canvassed the area for clues but did not find a

weapon. meantime from our delaware news room a 24-year-old man was shot in the chest this afternoon in wilmington. it happened in the area of 26th and west streets. the victim managed to stumble to 24th and jefferson before collapsing. someone called paramedics and the man was taken to the hospital for treatment. also in wilmington today, a worker was seriously hurt when a stack of steel beams fell on him. it happened at a job site here in the 500 block of east broad street about 8:30. officials say the 51-year-old worker was moving the beam when the stack shifted and one toppled onto the man. he was taken to christiana hospital with a number of lower body injuries. >> septa police officials are calling their body camera program a big success. septa released an audit of that program today. the program has led to a significant improvement in police interactions with the public. septa's police chief says the cameras have helped to improve officer behavior and discouraged people from making

false complaints about officer misconduct. >> reduction in response to resistance. reduction in offender injuries and officer injuries and a reduction in complaints. >> chief nestel says the audit also revealed areas that need improvement like officers for getting to turn the cameras on or to warn people that they are being recorded. the man found stabbed multiple times along with his wife inside of their point breeze home on friday is now charged with his wife's murder. authorities say 67-year-old anthony potter attacked 63-year-old robin potter with a knife along the 1500 block of south 19th street. the couple's son discovered the two in a second floor bedroom. >> the naacp of trenton says the search for the city's new superintendent was "flawed and inconclusive." "action news" in trenton as the naacp said the search did not represent the community. dr. frederick mctowel from the philadelphia school district is taking over as superintendent in trenton in

"action news" reporter dann cuellar is live at the scene and dann, what's the full story? >> reporter: jim, what i can tell you is that there is a heavy police presence here at this hour, a lot of investigators and top brass from police including homicide captain james clark this following a very violent gun

battle here as evidenced by the numerous yellow evidence markers which pinpoint bullet casings here on the sidewalk as many as 25 that we counted. it was just after 3:30, the 22nd district officers arrived here after reports of gunshots. they found four people had been shot. one of the victims was shot multiple times including twice in the head. two of the victims later died one at hahnemann another died at temple. two other shooting victims, including a 26-year-old survived and is being treated a -- a the both hospitals both in critical condition. what precipitated the violence. we don't know t initial police reports indicate it may be drug related because they found drug paraphernalia here on the scene. the violence happened across the street from saint maliki catholic school which was immediately placed on lockdown. here's what some students were telling us. >> we were in the school and all you hear is gunshots like multiple gunshots and it just got silent for a second and
