jared kushner's trip to iraq. president's son-in-law met with the iraqi prime minister to discuss the fight against isis and get a firsthand look at the situation on the ground. kushner has a long list of foreign policy duties in the administration. also charged with planning this week's visit of the chinese president. also dealing with mexico, brokering mideast peace, and visiting iraq, even before the secretary of state. >> why is he there and not the secretary of state today? what's the message the president is sending by having jared kushner be the one to take the trip? >> i don't think there is a binary choice. jared is going to express the commitment of the u.s., of the united states to the government of iraq. meet with u.s. personnel engaged in the campaign. >> so kushner has a lot on his plate. he has been tapped to run the, new office of innovation, tackle

the opioid epidemic, revamp criminal justice system and the federal government. quite a bit. >> russian officials are calling the explosion in saint petersberg subway a terror attack. at least 11 people were killed. dozens wounded in the blast beneath the downtown of st. petersburg. police later found a second device in a nearby station diffused that one. the explosion may have been triggered by a suicide bomber possibly from central asia. not confirmed. no group has claimed responsibility. the city declared three days of mourning. >> the death toll in colombia surpassed 270 as rescue workers frantically search for survivors of this weekend's deadly mudslide. amid a growing scene of horror, entire neighborhood swept away, and piles of decomposing bodies. abc's tom llamas is there. >> reporter: high above the disaster zone you can see all the damage. but down on the ground, you can feel the pain.

this is where the dead, more than 260, are waiting to be identified. as you enter the city one of the grim signs you first see. outside the cemetery. you can see them bringing in one of the body. and then these are people who lived in the city. they're trying to identify some of the body that are here. these catastrophic images, still fresh in the mind of those who survived. a wall of water, mud, and debris crashed into the town in the middle of the night. so powerful it pushed cars on top of trees. and more than 60 children dying when this avalanche of death came rolling in. we met octavio cardone in the hospital. every inch of his body, scratched, bruised, broken. his story is even mr. painful. >> translator: he tells me how he lost his grip on his 9-year-old daughter when the wall of water hit. she and his wife among the hundreds still missing. his 6-year-old son dying in the disaster. that father we met in the hospital who likely lost his entire family is now begging that the city set up some type of warning system, so this never happens again. awe all here at home, an urgent manhunt under way in texas for the killer of a police officer outside of houston.

police in baytown, texas, released surveillance video of a suspect in what investigators say was the ambush of harris county assistant chief constable clinton greenwood. the law enforcement veteran just arriving for work at the courthouse when someone opened fire. investigators are reviewing greenwood's past cases as prosecutor and defense attorney for suspects. >> near disaster in australia averted on this road when a mattress went flying off a truck. it got caught in the wheels of a motorcycle. brought it to a stop. the guy on the bike, was able to just, step off. thankfully. no one was following too close behind him. did suffer cuts on his hands. other than that, he was fine. if you are going to land on anything. >> perfect landing. >> he stuck the landing. >> two feet, and everything. >> both. two feet. i give him a 10.

check out the surveillance video out of lafayette, louisiana. the moment a small tornado swept across a parking lot and flipped that white car in the back. but get this -- the whole thing happened in the parking lot of an auto repair shop. >> oh, convenient. >> no reports of any injuries. your car is going to get damaged some where. >> perfect spot. >> there you go. outside of atlanta watch what believed to be a tornado rips the roof off a fire station in carlton. fire officials say in addition, the back wall of the station was damaged. but all their equipment and engines spared. >> homeowner outside of seattle is facing second degree murder charges for killing an intruder taking a shower in his home. bruce fanning told detectives, 31-year-old nathaniel rosa, made

threats. so fanning came back with a gun and shot rosa through the shower curtain. prosecutors say this is not a case of self defense. detectives think rosa may have been at fanning's home by accident. >> new development in the deadly home invasion outside of tulsa, oklahoma. the homeowner's 23-year-old son will not face charges for shooting and killing three masked, armed teenage intruders. the district attorney says the son's actions were justified under the state's stand your ground law. good samaritan's effort in new york city caught on camera on the subway tracks. >> utility worker saw a man fall on to the tracks moments before a train arrived. so, jonathan kulig did not hesitate. instead jumped down. lifted the man up. got him on to the platform. second later see the train roar by. kulig says he would do it again in a heartbeat. >> couldn't have done anything
