this little girl was that found. >> reporter: correct, brian and sharrie, good evening town a tense manhunt is still being mounted here in the state of delaware. new castle county police various other local police agencies state police and the fbi are all on the case. as for the four-year-old victim she's safe now with her parents. >> she was in many fact sexually assaulted. >> reporter: outrage commander of the new castle county police force describing details of the abduction and molestation of a four-year-old girl as she played with friends outside her pike creek valley home around 7:00 last night by a man who remains at large. >> the suspect managed to walk the four-year-old to his vehicle and proceeded to force her inside of it. and drive off at a high rate of speed. >> reporter: about two hours later in the cold night air the child largely unclothed was discovered walking out of banning park some 8 miles away in wilmington by a passerby

who'll called police. the child was examined at the hospital and then turned over to her parents. police continue to scour banning park looking for clues. >> we're looking for a dark colored four door sedan, possibly black with tinted windows. we're looking 4:00 a.m. white or hispanic male. >> reporter: neighbors of the family are deeply alarmed and tried to help last night when word of the kidnapping spread. >> we found out that the little girl was abducted all the neighbors rallied area and round, some of the neighbors went out. they actually were driving around looking for her with the description of the car and the gentleman who had taken her. >> reporter: brian, that is all police have to report and tell the public. they're asking for surveillance video from around the area, if anybody has anything on them their that looks suspicious, the suspect is so far at large. he's described as a white or hispanic male in a black vehicle with tinted windows t live in wilmington delaware,

i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> awful situation. thank you for that update. developing news today and the latest on those airstrikes carried out in syria. white house officials are calling them justified to that chemical attack they say was waged by syria against its own people this week. 59 tomahawk missiles struck their target late last night an effort to both weaken bashar assad's military strength and to send the signal he will be held to account. nikki haley u.s. ambassador to the united nation as also indicated more strikes could follow. >> the united states took a very measured step last night. we are prepared to do more. but we hope that will not be necessary. it is time for all civilized nations to stop the horrors that are taking place in syria and demand a political solution. >> meanwhile u.s. officials are also looking into whether russia may have taken part in

that chemical attack. they say a drone possibly a russian one was seen hovering over the hospital shortly after the attack and then hours later that very hospital was bombed. officials believe it may have been a deliberate effort to kill any survivors or to cover up any evidence. >> neil gorsuch is preparing to be sworn in as the next justice of the supreme court. the republican led senate confirmed the nominee today giving donald trump the biggest triumph his young presidency. after an historic rule change that only required a simple majority vote, the senate voted mostly along party lines 54-45 to confirm gorsuch to the lifetime appointment. it marks the tend to a bitter partisan battle that began shortly after the sudden death of justice antonin scalia. gorsuch will like be sworn in next week. >> at least four people are dead and 15 others injured after a truck crashed into a major department store in downtown stockholm. and word is just in that

police in sweden do have 71 in custody. swedish prime minister stefan lofven says all indications are that this was a terror attack. stockholm police say one person that can have some kind of connection to the attack has been arrested. now the truck involved was a large beer truck a swedish brewery told local media one of its vehicles had been carjacked earlier in the day. a nationwide manhunt has been under way in sweden as police continue to work all angles. now, it's not clear whether the person under arrest at this hour is the man shown in a police photo that was released earlier today wearing a greenish hoodie standing at the top of an escalator. stockholm police are holding a news conference in just a few moments to update this investigation. we'll have the latest on 6abc.com. brian. >> alicia thank you. that attack in stockholm. >> time now for a check of the accuweather forecast this friday. >> yes, started out gloomy but blue skies prevailed. adam joseph joining us. >> it is very chilly with the northwesterly winds. we saw a little bit of blue at times this afternoon but as we look at satellite and radar you can see we are coveredly in cloud cover from the northeast right down the midatlantic and even some rain showers still passing through parts of the area. snow showers up in the poconos as that low pressure that brought some of those strong storms yesterday continues to spiral more energy around. in fact those wind gusts 37 miles an hour in philadelphia this afternoon. allentown 37, 36 in wilmington, 35 in millville and clocking in close to 40 miles an hour today down at the shore. there is that low near burlington vermont, wind chills right now 20 in syracuse and the 20's there 20's in pittsburgh, 41 right now is how it feels in philadelphia and as we go through the evening hours temperatures will be falling from the mid 40's to the low

probably not. good afternoon to you though. anyway brian and sharrie on the vine street expressway we started the afternoon with an eastbound accident around broad street. gone now but not a great way to start the afternoon. already jammed solid crossing town from the schuylkill out to 95 on the eastbound vine. westbound volume building in as well headed towards 76. and speaking of 95, this is it, northbound by the vine expressway we had a broken down vehicle here a little bit ago. it has cleared. damage is done but with typical afternoon volume you're seeing northbound backlog head up to the work zone at girard. an accident near cottman is gone too. these problems are clearing out but you're left with big delays. slow speeds on the schuylkill expressway and the blue route 476 southbound has speeds in the teens much watching an issue in upper macungie in the lehigh valley, 78 eastbound near route 100 it's an accident just 10 miles per hour on the approach. if you and want to stay down on 222 there are some pockets of slowing there but it's

night when the suspect barged into the new shop express on the 6900 block of old york road. he grabbed an employee held a gun to his hand and demanded money. a second worker who was behind the counter handed over cash from the register. the gunman then stole a wallet from the victim who was still lying on the floor. if you know anything about this crime you're asked to call police. philadelphia police are examining surveillance video that captured a man being robbed and then shot in the city's feltonville section. the victim says he was approached by the robbers right after he got cash out of an atm on wyoming avenue around midnight a friend who was with the victim handed the suspect $250 in cash over but the suspect still opened fire. the victim is expected to survive. well, a chester county high school was closed today after potentially deadly bacteria was found in the school's hot water system. district officials say legionella bacteria was found

at kennett high school in kennett square during routine testing. legionella bacteria can cause legionnaires' disease a severe and sometimes fatal respiratory disease. the health department says there are no reports of the disease at this time. an environmental cleanup firm has been hired to eliminate the bacteria. >> a fire broke outinside a dorm room at rowan university. firefighters worked to mop up the water damage. no one was hurt but mimosa hall was evacuated. investigators are still trying to figure out how it got startd the. also in gloucester county a warehouse fiery ignited overnight. the fire broke out about 8 o'clock last night. crews were called back to five star auctions east greenwich township at 1:30 this morning. flames were coming from the roof of that building. firefighters got the situation under control after about an hour. >> well, state troopers who took the stand today in eric frein's trial talked about what they found inside frein's

bedroom during their investigation. they told the jury they found a sniper manual and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. it was put on display for the jury to see. and they said the ammo had the same markings as the shell casings recovered from the scene of the ambush. frein's trial resumed today after it was put on hold yesterday when frein was apparently getting treated for an injury he suffered in jail. frein could face a death sentence if he's sentenced. corporal bryan dickson was killed in the 2014 ambush and trooper alex douglass was injured. >> here at the big board now and tonight there is a.m. brand new competition series premiere on abc where the judges have big opinions but at a smaller table its called the toy box. hopeful toy makers have to get past a very tough panel of critics. four kids who have the task of deciding which toy would be the biggest hit with their peers and they are taking that job very seriously.

holds together we'll have to watch some of these showers as they head towards the phillies game in southampton it will be a little time but something we'll have to track here as they're on the edge of coatesville reason wet roadways along 422 in berks county. winds 21 miles an hour sustained in philadelphia, sustained at 28 in lancaster. higher gusts than these numbers. 24 in wilmington and right now the wind gusts above 20 miles an hour in millville with a sustained wind at 18 it is creating some wind chills. feels like 40 or so anywhere from trenton philadelphia wilmington to the south but only 35 in reading, 36 in lancaster so almost a winter chill in the air today but that's going to change this weekend t there you can see kind of those rotating spokes of energy passing through during the day today. you got a little glimmer of sun a pop here or there but at this point really not much in the way of sun out there. watching the last batch of showers in the northwestern suburbs. the clouds will break up overnight tonight. 33 in allentown, 36 philadelphia, 36 as well in

dover. brisk and cold with that gradual clearing continuing but as we get into the day on saturday big improvement from today with respect to the sky cover. so we'll see a lot of sunshine here but those winds will continue out of the northwest 12 to 25 miles an hour, temperatures in the 40's through at least 11 o'clock in the morning and then busting into the mid and upper 50's but again even though if we hit those upper 50's, not going to feel like it with those winds out of the northwesterly direction so if you're heading to the philadelphia union game saturday evening bundle up. it will be mostly clear calming winds. the temperature starts 54 degrees by the finish right around 50 degrees. even if there's a little breeze there still be a chill in the air tomorrow evening but then things change. as we look at future tracker6, sunday afternoon at 3:30, 66 philadelphia 70's to our south and west, take a look at the summer heat building in the nation's heartland. 86 wichita, 81 in saint louis.

>> ♪♪ >> national crime victim rights week wraps up today across the nation. easy for me to say. in trenton they hand out the office of the attorney general's excellence awards for victims justice. four crime victim advocates representing atlantic essex hunterdon and middlesex counties were chosen. they were proven to show resilience in the face of challenges help sure their community seek justice and pursue healing. religious nonprofits in new jersey have access to a million dollars to help with security. congressman donald norcross and other local leaders held a community meeting today to get word out this afternoon at the katz jewish community center. they can apply for grants of

up to $50,000. that money has become available on the heels of a a string of bomb threats targeting area synagogues and jewish community centers. >> high school students danced the day away to help children with cancer. the action cam was in northeast philadelphia for the mini on that at philadelphia academy charter high school. students planned the fundraiser over the past five months and have raised more than $5,000. all of the money goes towards penn state's four diamonds fund. among other things the organization helps families of young cancer patients pay for costs that insurance does not cover. how about this new exhibit that's opened up at camden new jersey's adventure aquarium. piranha falls takes visitors inside an amazon where 125 red belly piranha live. there's rain wind thunder and lightning inside the visit to give guests the experience of a powerful amazon rainstorm t tonight aquarium members will

security council that the u.s. is prepared to take further action against the country to prevent chemical weapons attacks but hopes that that will not be necessary. the syrian government and their ally russia have denounced the strikes as an act of aggression and "action news" reporter john rawlins discovered while talking to members of the syrian community now based in the lehigh valley, many actually agree. he's live in allentown with more on this story today and there are always two sides to the story john. >> reporter: well, many sides to this particular story. the narrative though for many people here sharrie is that we talked to today is that the u.s. is again naively going down the wrong path by attacking the assad government. they question the wisdom out of the assertion that the assad government used chemical weapons and they say destabilizing that government risks chaos. >> the president came out and said he didn't want any regime changes, he didn't want to get involved in syria and then all of a sudden now couple days later he's getting involved so

everybody is a little bit baffled and confused. >> reporter: syrians began moving tom allentown a century go. shops stocked with foods for a syrian palate. donald trump won votes here in part because as a candidate he says he would fight isis and be hands off the assad government. last night's attack changeed that. e cahe reporter: the father expressed he's speaking for himself not his church. the trip wire for trump the use of chemical weapons in syria. >> this attack to many syrian americans is a hoax. >> reporter: the thinking behind that statement isis is responsible for the attack not risk world condemnation since he already is successfully winning withional weapgovernmen taking over areas the isis. >> reporter: some in this community have that demonstrated for assad in the past. they view him as a stable fair force.

they fear trump's shift could topple assad and lead to chaos where islamic extremists take control. well the plan this evening is to protest last night's cruise missile launch and attack on the assad air field. that will that happen later this evening at the intersection behind me her union boulevard and airport road. rawlins, channel6 "action news." brian. >> all right john, our explainer in chief many thanks for making sense that of complicated story. as the topic of syrian once again rises to the top of the news a newspaper exhibit is shedding light on that seldom understood country and its many conflicts. the action cam was at the penn museum for the opening of the cultures in the crossfire an exhibition featuring the history heritage and current events of syria in the middle east. it highlights the museum's efforts to save priceless cultural artifacts in the midst of so much destruction. >> the way to think about it is this. imagine your house is on fire and the first thing you'll do is try to make sure that your

entire family is out and they're safe. the second thing you'll think about is those wedding photographs or your great grandmother's wedding dress or ring or something like that. and it's those kinds -- that -- those things that give meaning to life. >> now the exhibit started this morning and it is opened to the public. it also features lectures and new paintings by a syrian artist in reaction to the current c >> firefighters in delaware county didn't have to to fights morning. a fire bn the second floor of their own in parkside. this happened along the 100 block of rowland road around 11 o'clock this morning t officials say the fire was contained to a small area and was not very difficult to put out. they haven't released details on what may have sparked the fire or how much damage it may have cost. >> now to accuweather. meteorologist adam joseph like a very narrow break of some blue skies earlier today. it's been predominantly gray. that will change though. >> that will change over the weekend as sunshine comes back and we warm those temperatures and kind of kick down the wind

>> [laughter] >> can't help it. >> they shimmy. >> just a test. >> shoulder os six. thank you adam. >> all right. >> new exhibit at the free library of philadelphia is exploring the history of mystery. we the detectives unite the rare books at the free library and the rich collection to the rosenbach museum is show causing the daring and captivating history of the detective novel. the exhibit opens tomorrow and runs through september 1st. it was made possible by a grant from the william penn foundation. the cast of cabaret got a vip tour today of the american jewish history museum. the tony award winning stage show has a deep connection to jewish history. about 25 members of the production that is now playing at the academy of music were on hand for this tour today and cabaret runs through sunday. >> a bucks county school underwent a magical transformation this morning and the results were nothing short of enchanting. kindergarten students at school lane charter school in bensalem just ended their unit

on fairy tails. to celebrate they held a ball. the students dressed up as their favorite fairytale characters. there were of course princesses kings dwarves and even an org. >> ogre. >> thank you ogre. there were crafts dances and after the ball each classroom hosted a tea party. so a lot of fun today there. >> we watch a lot of fairytales in our house these days.
