several dozen protesters rched in front of philadelphia city hall condning the missile s they say military action to stop the use of chemicalweaponsn washington to spend money on jobs and housing and healthcare instead of war. abc's "world news tonight" with david muir is following all of these latest developments on the u.s. strike in syria. that is tonight at 6:30 right after "action news." philadelphia police are responding to a crash involving a septa bus in north philadelphia. two cars collided at fifth and berk at 5:30. the impact of that crash sent an overturned vehicle into a route three bus. at leastneas l into ambulance. king to find outanlsybode was in new jersey, state mandated testing has uncovered high levels of lead at five washington township schools.

lead in the water. they are bells birches and whitman elementary schools and bunker hill and chestnut ridge middle schools the water has been shut off until the problem can be fixed. students are drinking from bottles instead. officials are waiting for test results. there is also health concerns at kennett high school in kennett square tonight t a routine test found the bacteria that causes legionnaires' disease in the building's hot water. the school was closed today as the health department works to get rid of the bacteria. so far there are no confirmed reports of legionnaires' disease at the school. well, the phillies opened their home schedule today under cloudy skies with cold temperatures and against one of the best teams in baseball, the washington nationals but hey it is opening day at citizens bank park and the fans are overjoyed. >> ♪ >> new at 6:00 tonight tom lee of hatfield celebrated his 94th birthday today in a very special way. he received his world war two bronze star. action news reporter nora muchanic has the story. >> reporter: it's more than 70 years overdue but 94-year-old tom lees of hatfield has finally received the bronze star he earned during world war ii. the retired pharmaceutical production foreman was an army radio operator and machine gunner during the battle of the bulge considered the most desperate fight against hitler's german forces. >> it was square re. i think everybody else was scared but we got through it and i'm glad to be here today that's all. >> reporter: tom lees didn't know he'd won a bronze star when his son greg was assembling a military shadow box for christmas he began research, his dad's service record. >> he never received any of his medals owner on the army

good conduct medal. he's been my hero since i was a kid. i want to make sure he gets what he's entitled to and he's honored the way he should be. >> reporter: the medal ceremony was a surprise. greg got his father that were under the guys avenue birthday celebration. instead of absolutelying tom's 94th birthday his friends and family honored his service as retired major general wesley craig pinned on that bronze star. >> it's always important to keep history alive. we can learn from that and thank an old soldier like him. what a gentleman he is and on his birthday how great is that. >> they are the last of our great generation and he is an example of that through and through. >> it's a surprise actually. i don't think i deserved it. >> reporter: tom lees helped liberate jews held prisoner at the buchenwald concentration camp. he lost friends on the bloody battlefields of europe. it's not too late to say thank you for the sacrifices he and his fellow soldiers made. in hatfield, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news".
