fact a murder-suicide and that two adults are dead and that the two students were airlifted to local hospitals in critical condition. young students in first through sixth grade poured out of north park elementary evacuating to safety. they have been bussed to other schools nearby where they will eventually be reunited with their parents but that could take hours officials say. stick with "action news" and of course 6abc.com as more information on this breaking story develops today. >> also breaking right now, a crash involving a truck it's causing major delays along the blue route in delaware county. now, initial reports were that victims had to be cut free from the vehicle as we take a look at some of the damage. sources tell "action news" two people have been injured. now, chopper6 hd giving us now a live view over the scene on the southbound lane near exit three in springfield. what we see here, one lane of traffic being able to get by so again, this is causing major delays in this area.

the crash happened about one hour ago. we'll check in with matt pelman to help you get around the delays in just a few minutes. >> and other news police are searching for bank robber who targeted a branch on the main line. >> "action news" reporter vernon odom just got an update from investigators and joins us now live from radnor with new video of the crime. vern. >> reporter: in the wayne section of radnor tonight, wayne section of radnor sharrie, good afternoon to you brian. radnor police tonight asking for the public's help to find out who robbed this bank, the bank of america right behind me late last week. he struck here at midday late last week on friday to be exact. they have lots of video. radnor police want you to identify this man right away and perhaps tell them where they can find him. they say he's the bank robber who held up this bank of america branch on lancaster avenue in wayne on april 7th around 12:30 p.m. bank employees say he walked in

presented a note to the teller took cash and fled. here is the police department's precise description. >> the actor was that described as a white male 5-foot 10 to 6 feet tall in his late 20's to early 30's, had a medium build was wearing light blue shorts a gray zip up style fleece, a blue hat flat brim hat with some type of circular logo on in it white and he was also wearing sneak terse. >> reporter: a passerby took this iphone picture of the getaway car clear as a bell. the license tag is pennsylvania jfjo657. here's the precise police description of the car. >> it is a older model toyota camry possibly gold or silver in color o the pennsylvania tag on the vehicle was jfj jfj0657. >> reporter: radnor township officials tonight post a $3,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and

conviction of this bank robber. live in the wayne section of radnor township, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> all right, vern, thank you. a person of interest is in custody for a hit-and-run that injured two people in the hunting park section of philadelphia. the victims were leaving a family party last night when they were struck. it happened right about 10 o'clock near the intersection of sixth street and erie avenue in hunting park. investigators recovered the suspect's heavily damaged nissan maxima near his home on fraley street. the man and a woman who were hurt do have serious injuries. >> well, there is new video of three men wanted in connection to an armed robbery in cobbs creek. a crate weird man walking in the area of 62nd and pine streets last tuesday just before midnight. that's when two men got out of a red sedan and approached him with guns drawn. well, they stole his wallet his watch and phone and then jumped right back into that sedan that was still waiting and then sped off. if any of these people look familiar or you know anything

reach of records. philadelphia's old record in 1887 was 84 degrees. allentown 84 in 2011, 86 for trenton and atlantic city airport 84 degrees so, yes, we're going to kick it up a few more degrees tomorrow and then a cold front will come through on wednesday morning. you can see low pressure just to the west of chicago, not a lot of moisture with it. we'll get a few showers but it's going to drop the temperatures as we get into wednesday and beyond. we'll talk about that change in the forecast to come at the end of the week and we'll also chat alicia about the easter holiday weekend in just a little bit. >> looking forward to that adam. thank you. in the nation's capitol today, judge neil gorsuch was officially sworn in as an associate justice of the supreme court. surrounded by his family and future colleagues the 49-year-old appeals court judge from colorado has taken the first of two oaths as he prepares to take his place as the 113th justice of the supreme court. >> congratulations. administration with congress but it comes with a very bitter partisan fight. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell invoked the so-called nuclear option allowing republicans to approve gorsuch's nomination. it was a political and historical first confirming a supreme court nominee with just a simple majority vote 54 yeas to 45 nays. >> i am humbled by the trust placed in me today. i will never forget that to whom much is given, much will be expected. and i promise you that i will do all my powers permit to be a faithful servant of the constitution and laws of this great nation. >> and i can say this is a great honor. he was again sworn in today. he now restores the court's balance of conservatives and liberals with one swing vote. brian. >> alicia, thank you. senior u.s. official now says that russia knew in advance that syria was planning to carry out that chemical attack. the official tells the associated press that the government has now concluded that a russian operated drone flew over a hospital where victims that of attack were being treat ted. hours later a russian made fighter jet bomb in an attempt to cover up the use of chemical weapons. officials say the sequence of events could not have been a coincidence. all of this comes as u.s. secretary of state rex tillerson is set to travel to russia this week for preand scheduled diplomatic meetings. >> commuters and tourists alike are bumping into changes along the ben franklin parkway right in front of the philadelphia museum of art. phase one of construction for the nfl draft is under way. sarah bloomquist live with a look at the progress and also

the road closures. hi, sarah. >> reporter: hi, sharrie. i think you can see some of the orange barrels behind me here around eakins oval as construction for the nfl draft continues. let's head live overhead to drone6 from a look here on the parkway and eakins oval. a lot of equipment out here on the parkway. they just keep bringing in the scaffolding. now the largest stage extends out and over the art museum steps. overnight a few lane restrictions went into effect. so far they are not having too much of an impact but this is just the beginning. phase one of traffic restrictions and the orange barrels went up overnight around aches over. septa buses are being detoured. some like lanes are no longer accessible. >> just trying not to get hit by a car. what are they doing here him. construction crews are setting up for the upcoming on the nfl draft. overnight travel lanes on the east side of the oval were blocked and on the curb

closest to the all right museum. overnight a stretch of spring garden westbound at pennsylvania avenue was shut down. for phase two on the 19th the center lanes of the parkway will close. for the final phase on the 24th, the rest of the parkway eakins oval on several adjacent streets to the west will close to traffic. >> i am a fan of the draft at that time i think they should hold this thing down near the stadium. >> i think the draft is going to go good and there's a lot of stuff. >> reporter: the restrictions ohio river valley seem to have little impact on traffic today. the tourists however, they're not happy that the art museum steps are no longer accessible for a run up just like rocky. >> we can't can't -- came here o see the rocky staff kuehne the steps. i didn't know the steps were going to be closed. i want to see the view from the movie but i guess not. >> reporter: and around eakins oval right now traffic is moving along without any problem but we have noticed today just about everywhere traffic is pretty light. remember, this is a holiday week and many people are away or off from work or school on

conshohocken curve as you head toward the blue route no traffic is getting by. you want to stay up on ridge pike, down on route 23 conshohocken state road or down on route 30. it's a mess. fully engulfed in flames. a lot of smoke at this point billowing across the road and we're still waiting on those fire crews the ladder truck to arrive. obviously we'll keep tabs on this. as you head westbound towards the blue route, let's go back to the blue route, chopper6 hd high over the sky over our accident scene in the southbound lanes south of the route one media bypass. truck is now attached to a tow truck. they still have that right lane blocked and quite the backlog as chopper6 pans out you can see all the people waiting to get by this accident scene and head down toward 95. it is a long slow crawl. check out that park pentagon lot from chopper6 hd on the blue route southbound. let's go back to the maps and then we can see some of the speeds. 8 miles per hour, 3 miles per hour, 320 jammed with detouring traffic as is 252.

mourn those killed in two church attacks. 49 people died yesterday when suicide bombers blew up the christian churches during palm sunday services. the egyptian government issued a state of emergency giving security forces more power. isis is claiming responsibility. more than 70 people were injured. >> now here is a look at today's closing numbers as we start this work week. small gains on the day but all green arrows here. the dow up nearly two points, the nasdaq up more than this evening the s & p 500 up one point school. toyota investing more than $1 billion to revamp its factory in georgetown kentucky. the company says the money will not plead to any new jobs but will ensure the future for the 8200 people who already work there. this update is part of toyota's plan to invest $10 billion in the united states over the next four years. all camry sedans are built at that plant.

>> pope francis opened a free laundromat for people in need in rome the facility is filled with donated washers drivers and irons. in the coming months the vatican plans to add showers a barbershop and medical services. this is the second facility that francis has opened to help the poor in rome. he opened a shower and barber service near saint peter's basilica just about two years ago a the vatican says the facility will help restore dignity to people in need. >> a brand new state of the art space is coming to life in the strawberry mansion section of philadelphia. this will soon be the city's 19th police athletic center a place where kids can play, learn and grow in a free and safe environment. >> going to be the show piece and we'll have a hardwood floor and this is where the kids will play basketball both in house and city wide leagues. going have a homework room an game room. >> this space is the old and shuttered lp hill school adjacent to the strawberry mansion high school. pal reached out to the building owners and managers

association for a little help renovating the gym and they took on the entire project for free. for the past several months, they've been renovating this into a space where all of the neighborhood kids can study and play in their community and local police say it is an under served one and can really use it. >> we will be servicing thousands of kids in the community which is a high crime low income neighborhood and the youth programming is greatly needed in this community because as we all know it's all about cops helping kids. our programs are fun, safe and free. >> now, pal tells us that the work has put into this space for free will exceed $300,000. pal currently services 19,000 kids city wide in its centers. this will be number 19 and they are already working on number 20 in the city. this is the final push for this project. they tell us they will expect to cut the ribbon and open the doors by the end of may. it's a great space and they say a lot of kids in the area

lehigh valley, points west where temperatures are right around that 80-degree mark. in fact, allentown the warmest right now at 81. as we look to the west, there is a few high clouds that are coming in from the south and west but overall that sunshine in control and will remain in control for another day. so, for tonight, we'll have a moonlit sky out there and very mild, 53 allentown, 56 philadelphia, 54 in wilmington and even at the shore where it's cooler right now you're going to kind of even out with those inland locations in the mid-50's. as we look at the day planner for your tuesday t-april 11th, record tying around here is what we're going for in philadelphia which is that 84 degrees. we'll already be in the 70's by 10 or 11 o'clock in the morning and then in the afternoon into the 80's, so so far a great week if your children have spring break this particular week. but there are a few showers we're tracking here for the middle part of your wednesday in the morning at 10:30, a little area coming in with a cold front to the north and west. they wouldn't last long,

♪ find out how much your car's worth ♪ >> ♪ >> it is 4:30 now and "action news" continues with break news from springfield delaware county. >> an accident has parts of the southbound lanes of i476 shut down at this hour. dann cuellar live now near the scene of the crash with the very latest. dann. >> reporter: sharrie and brian, we are on an overpass overlooking the accident scene. this is southbound traffic on the blue route which right now still backed up for a couple of miles as emergency crews work to clear the wreckage from the roadway. one lane of traffic is getting by as you can see going southbound. this all happened around 2:30. a box truck which says miller commercial truck leasing on its side collided with an suv. that resulted in the suv being squashed onto the concrete barrier on the side of the roadway at mile marker 4.1 southbound just north of beatty road and just south of the media bypass. two people in the suv were reportedly trapped and had to

be extricated by rescue crews. both of them suffered injuries and had to be airlifted by helicopter to area o hospitals. conditions unknown at this time t we were told there were no fatalities. a large wrecker is on the scene here as you can see they've removed the box truck and looks like they're getting ready to tow it away so it should be just a short matter of time before the south much southbound lanes all of them should be cleared here on the blue route again just south of the media bypass. that is the very latest from here, reporting from springfield, delaware county, i'm dann dann cuellar channel6 "action news." >> dann thank you. we turn now to the changing face of camden courtesy of its police department. five years ago the city was one of the most dangerous in the country but the same cannot be said about 2017. new jersey corresponde nnta muchanic live now in camden with more on the new numbers and the reason behind them.

hi, nora. >> reporter: hi there. it's been four years since the camden city police department was disbanded and the camden county police department took over. that meant a change in philosophy and training away from the use of force whenever possible. in the video you're about to see illustrates how these days the last thing cops in camden want to do is pull a gun. >> drop the knife. >> reporter: among the millions of videos posted on youtube is this one from the camden county police department. it shows in detail a deranged man swinging a knife and ignoring officers' to put it down. instead of shooting the suspect a dozen officers surround the man and walk several blocks with him until he finally drops the knife and is subdued. >> the core of everything that we do from a training perspective is based upon the sanctity of life and putting a value on someone's life separate from the behavior they're exhibiting. >> reporter: the incident happened in 2015 but reflects the change in training and fill fees for officers. there are more out on the street and critical incidents

like this don't have to be resolved immediately. it's okay to slow things down. and as long as cops are at a safe distance they can reposition and try to diffuse the situation. >> they have pride in saving lives in a different way without having to take a life to save a life. it's just a different culture in the police department. >> reporter: it seems to be paying off. there hasn't been a murder in camden since december. and compared to the beginning of last year, murders are down 89 percent. aggravated assaults and violent crimes have also dropped. >> it's not an us versus them situation, it's the residents working with the police to help solve and prevent crime. >> they don't play no games. when you call they come now. >> reporter: this life long camden resident says he's no fan of police in general but things have improved. >> it's a big difference. they come around they be on the bikes and stuff. they make sure the neighborhood going to be safe. especially for the kids when they get out of school. >> reporter: that that community policing is going full tilt in camden. things are not perfect here,

there's a long way to go but the move away from the use of force whenever possible and creating relationships with the public, well, that is improving. live in camden, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> what a difference there, okay, nora, thank you. as police in montgomery county continue to investigate whether cyber bullying played a role in the death of a ninth grade girl, the community is that rallying behind her family. over the past 48 hours, nearly $47,000 has been raised to help the girl's mother pay for a memorial service. the freshman who we are not naming took her life last week. police are investigating weather a vulgar and cruel text message reportedly sent from a spring-ford student drove the girl to homicide. >> hoping new pictures help solve the murder of a 65-year-old woman in philadelphia. police are calling these two men persons of interest in the shooting dench winifred harris

in her home. the nonprofit executive was killed on the 300 block of north holly street back on february 23rd. a $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. police have not yet said what the motive for this crime might have been. philadelphia police are also looking for two men who got violent with a senior citizen during an attempt robbery last month. surveillance video shows the robbers walking into a haitian variety store on north 64th street. both point guns at a 77-year-old worker but one starts to choke him while demanding money in haitian creole. the men ran away without getting anything when the employee started yelling for hip. now anyone with information about this crime should contact police. >> the trial of three girls charged in connection to a deadly fight inside a school is wrapping up wilmington. a pediatric cardiologist served as the last witness in the amy joyner francis case today.

the doctor testified the 16-year-old suffered from a rare undetected heart condition and they are death way -- was unforeseeable. the autopsy found the emotion and stress of the fight inside a bathroom led to the teen's sudden cardiac death last april. one of the girls has been charged with criminally negligent homicide. two others are charged with conspiracy. closing arguments have set to begin tomorrow. >> a proposed natural gas pipeline in new jersey faces a new challenge. the environmental group the sierra club is appealing the approval of the pipeline saying it does not primarily benefit people living there. the pipeline will carry natural gas 22 miles between the maurice river township in cumberland county to a power plant in cape may county. passing through the federally protected pinelands preserve. the new jersey pinelands commission gave the green light for that project. >> well, i think most of us can agree it is a.m. fabulous springdale outside today. >> uh-huh. many of the kids have this week off. >> perfect timing.

>> it is perfect timing for this almost like summer out there in spots. as we take a live look on sky6 over the center city skyline a lot of blue upstairs. a few cirrus clouds pulling in but our temperatures sitting at 80 degrees which is more typical of early june, winds out of the southwest at 7 miles an hour. the dewpoint at 41 and in easton up in northampton county also mixture of sunshine as well as some high clouds, 81 degrees up there. southwesterly wind at 13 miles an hour. but we're not all basking in the summer warmth. at the shore you can see i you look at the water. you see the white caps developing here, very strong wind out of the south, 17 miles an hour. catching in off of that ocean of just 50 degrees so the air temperature is just 60 so if you're down there strolling along or planning on strolling along one of the boardwalks, promenades or along the ocean side here later this afternoon or this evening, definitely grab a jacket. we'll talk about records tomorrow and of course that seven day which has your easter sunday forecast coming

afternoon on the travel times. they are overflowing record setting travel times on some of these roads brian and sharrie like the schuylkill expressway. here's the scene of our earlier vehicle fire westbound right in the conshohocken curve as you can see fire crews did arrive on the scene. the fire is now out. the shell of the vehicle still there and police are still on the scene as well. so, the good news is both lanes are now opened in both directions. bad news is you're still looking at speeds like 2 miles per hour on the westbound side from approaching the boulevard out to that scene. eastbound is also bumper to bumper from 202 into the conshohocken curve because they had a lane blocked on the eastbound side with a fire truck for awhile. bottom line, instead of the schuylkill i would use ridge pike 23 or 30 aren't the speeds are still not so hot on the blue route, 476o southbound side at a crawl from approaching villanova on down to past the route one media bypass where we still have the truck accident blocking one of the two lanes. single digit speeds in that stretch as well. again, you want to take alternates like 352, 252, stay

as far away as you can though because all the roads around here are crowded. two accidents on 95 in delaware. you've got southbound speeds in the single digits coming down from 202, slowing again around newport because of that crash. burlington bristol bridge going up in about 10 minutes. i'll tell you what else is up, drone6 this afternoon look, at eakins oval in front of the art museum. new restrictions phase one of the restrictions with the nfl draft preparations went into effect at midnight. all day we have been getting used to this. two lanes blocked in front of the art museum in the oval. you've got spring garden street westbound blocked headed toward. the biggest impact kelly drive one lane blocked on the inbound side right by the art museum so especially in the mornings as you're coming inbound on kelly drive by boathouse row expect major delays with that one lane out of commission. we'll check it again, brian and sharrie, plenty to check in the next half hour. >> you're going to be a busy guy for some time, matt, thank you. meteorologist adam joseph

56 degrees for center city with that south-southwesterly wind. tomorrow 80's kind of blossoming in more locations than today. 82 in reading tomorrow, 80 in millville, 85 in toms river. could be record tying here in philadelphia of 84 degrees. this will be the warmest day of this upcoming week. at the shore instead of the 50's tomorrow, we should go back into the middle and the upper 60's. tuesday we're ahead of a cold front here and that spikes the temperatures up temporarily into the mid 80's. mostly sunny once again with high pressure off of the carolinas. and then this cold front sweeps through on wednesday. there will be a quick little hit of some showers from the mid to late morning hours from the west to the east but then returning sun in the afternoon with high pressure that will dominate the sky for the end of the week. so o-the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast t-will show 80's one mr. day with record territory tomorrow. that quick little area of showers wednesday morning giving way to sun in the afternoon of 72.
