he was tasered. gray hall will have much more on this case coming up tonight at 5:00. two teenagers are being held accountable for their involvement in a fight that took the life of 16-year-old amy joineamyjoyner-francis. a judge handed down the decision today ruling that two of the three girls facing charges were delinquent. "action news"action news" reporn rawlins is live now in wilmington. john, in his decision, the judge made it very clear this was less of a fight and more of a one-sided attack in his words. >> reporter: that was -- that is the the -- exactly the case. he made it clear this was not a mutual mixing of two sides that were looking for a fight that you might find in any high school here. but what occurred in april of 2016 was a one-sided attack that led to death. the ruling -- the now 17-year-old lead defendant did commit homicide when she attacked and beat victim amy joyner-francis inside a girls' room at howard high school. joyner-francis had an undiagnosed heart condition, the

belief she died due to the stress of the unprovoked attack. the judge found as a reasonable person, the 17-year-old, should have understood her actions risk death. her lawyer indicated his client still confused as to how all this happened. he called her a good girl from a good home. >> they teach family values. anybody who knows children understands that sometimes teens are pressured into engaging in activity that is contrary to what mother and father teach every day. >> reporter: two other girls were charged with conspiracy, one found delinquent. she kicked joyner-francis during the assault. the other acquitted. the judge saying she did not participate in the assault. a spokesperson for the victim's family said this. >> at the end of the day, you cannot brutalize someone, pummel someone in the bathroom and lead to their death and there's no consequence for that action. >> reporter: what are the consequence? had the primary attacker been convicted as an adult, she would face six years in prison. family court is different. >> the hope is that we guide the

youth back on track to lead the law-abiding life they were meant to lead, to have the education they were meant to have and to become productive adults. >> reporter: a law professor says there's a wide range of steps a court can employ from community service to anger management and other forms of counseling that could can lead to remorse and rehabilitation. a menu of options can extend to placement, somebody go into a juvenile facility or should they stay at home with their family. the system can have jurisdiction over someone till age 19. that can be extended to age 21 in some cases. the sentencing of the two individuals who were found delinchuent today will be may 23rd. in wilmington, john rawlins, "channel 6 action news." sharrie? >> okay, john. thank you. attorneys for jerry sandusky say they have a new witness that they want to call. it's all part of their effort to get the former penn state football coach a new trial. sandusky's team filed a petition

wednesday requesting that a television producer from "the bob costas show" testify on sandusky's behalf. attorneys argue that his former defense attorney was ineffective and allowed him to compromise himself during that interview. the former penn state assistant football coach is appealing his 2012 conviction for sexually abusing ten boys. widener university is now offering discounted tuition to all city employees. university's president signed that new deal today. it gives 300 city workers and their spouses and children a 45% discount on courses. master's education degrees completed online will be half off. widener officials called this another way to welcome city residents to campus and improve the partnership between the two. all right. time for a bit of fun. spring adventures are back and with easter only days away, candy is flying off the shelves. asher's chocolates in montgomery

county. >> and that's where we found adam joseph live today with a very sweet assignment in every sense of the word, adam. >> reporter: this is a sweet vead venture. how ironic they begin the week of easter and, of course, i put my thinking on going what do i want to do? i want to eat candy and chocolate? we got easter this weekend so we're at asher's here in souderton, pennsylvania. they've been making chocolate since 1892 so i think they know what they're doing. temperatures right now, it is average for this time year, 70s and 80s are gone but it's still really nice, in the mid-60s here. 50s in new york state just to our north. and 70s lurking just to the south in virginia. satellite and radar, we had early clouds. then we cleared out. and now you can seymour clouds coming in from the western past of the state and the central part of the state. it's a weak shortwave. no moisture with it but it will bring a band of clouds this evening and overnight tonight. but it is going to warm up big time this weekend.

476 southbound side, already very busy on this thursday afternoon. you can see all the southbound traffic here near villanova. 40 minutes ideally should be less than half that. it is busy out there on the roadways with just afternoon volume and some people getting out of town early in advance of the holiday weekend. over on the schuylkill expressway, just nine miles per hour on the eastbound side by montgomery drive. northbound side of 95 as you pass penns landing. that got us off to a bad start on northbound 95 this afternoon. in franklinville, we're watching a crash along rising sun at fifth involving a police cruiser but no injuries. watch out for that scene by porky's point. and a live look in center city. this a vine street expressway. busy here in both directions. again, it's just volume. no accidents yet on the vine street expressway. but this is a crash up in the lehigh valley this afternoon. it's blocking the westbound lanes of 78 at 222.

a little girl in arizona came within inches of tragedy.

video released today shows that girl pay playing inside the barber shop, then sitting in a chair by the wind pope and you saw it there -- bullets shattering the glass as she did so narrowing missing both sides of her head. >> we saw the bullet holes in the window, but we didn't know they were that close. >> shocking. we're really lucky that she didn't get hurt worse. >> it is shocking. incredibly so. this girl was not hurt by that gunfire but was injured by the shattered glass. she's recovering today. police say these two men got into a fight in the parking lot following a dispute with a nearby tattoo parlor. both of those men have been arrested. well, new on "action news," we have an important safety notice. certain garbage disposals are being recalled because metal parts could fly off while it's in use. anaheim manufacturing and moen are recalling the disposals after consumer complaints. the products were sold online

down following a wild car crash. this what the building on the 1300 block of cheltenham avenue looks like right now. behind those boards is a giant hole courtesy of a driver who lost control early this morning and slammed into the side of the home. katherine scott has more on how it happened. >> reporter: there was a lot of the force behind this crash. one of the cars actually tore a hole through the wall of this home. you can look straight inside the rec center. you can see the sofas, the kitchen. one of the staff members sitting in that room was taken to the hospital with no life-threatening injuries. >> it was like a big boom. i didn't know what it was. >> reporter: it was a violent two-car crash in east oak lane at 2:30 a.m. the driver of this chevy cobalt ls says she was going home from work and trying to move into the right lane on the 1300 block of cheltenham avenue when she lost control and collided with this red dodge charger.

>> it was going like this. like shaking. my wheel. it was just something was locked. i don't know what was locked but something was locked so when i moved over, my car, just over there. >> reporter: the charger slammed into the side of this group home and hit a parked car. staff came running from the sister property next door. >> that car hit my car. so that car ran into the house and my car was in the parking lot. >> reporter: there are several dozen homes like this across the area. community living arrangements for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. three clients were asleep in their bedrooms but one of the staff hems who was in the front -- members who was in the front was hurt. >> i did have a staff person sitting in a chair where the car came in so she got pushed in the chair. she went to the hospital. >> reporter: no serious injuries were reported, but there's a lot of the damage. the house is uninhabitable. the residents were moved to

another house for the time being. >> there's no way for us to really prepare for something like this. what we can do is just be there to support our clients and staff getting through it to the best of our ability. >> reporter: blast in philadelphia is getting a better assess many of the damage so they can figure out what do next by way of repairs cath cath, "channel 6 action news." -- katherine scott, "channel 6 action news." police say this is the man responsible for a series of sophisticated rooftop burglaries throughout montgomery county. 44-year-old jose is facing a number of charges in connection to five break-ins from february 6th to march 5th. the a malvern man and a juvenile accomplice got into stores and businesses through skylights, drain pipes and ductwork. he got away with more than $100,000 in cash and jewelry. his bail has been set at $99,000. investigators say montgomery county man accused of torturing his children also abused his

wife. some difficult details here. joseph miry was arraigned today including strangulation and assault. those felony counts are in addition to the charges the 44-year-old collegeville father is facing for allegedly beating his children, now 11 and 13. police say over the past six years, miry shocked his son and daughter with electric dog collars, hit them with pipes and stuck small blades under their thank you. ernails. his bail has been set at $2 million. a handwriting expert testified today at the trial of eric 14. 14 is accused of ambushing a police barracks. prosecutors are trying to prove that a journal describing the 2014 attack belongs to 14. today an expert told the jury that the handwriting in the journal is in fact freens. he faces a potential death sentence for shooting that killed corporal brian dixon and wounded a second trooper. some local businesses are looking for the next employees

a gas station robbery in california current turned into a brawl when a gas station clerk decided to stand his ground. this is video showing the ordeal as the robber in the blue hooded sweatshirt there tried to take

cash out of the register. that's when the clerk tried to slam it shut and pushed the chief onto the ground. well, you see the thief pittfighting back there with some help from a female acquaintance. he started throwing punches before they both fled the scene. both suspects are still wanted and will now also face felony charges for that fight. the man who was dragged off an overbooked united airlines plane will reportedly need reconstructive surgery to heal his injuries. that's according to dr. david dao's attorneys who say the incident left their client with a concussion, a broken nose and two broken teeth. his daughter spoke today for the first time. >> it has been a very difficult time for our entire family, especially my dad. and we are truly grateful for your support. >> well, the conduct of the chicago aviation officers who physically removed dao was the focus of a city council hearing this afternoon.

google ad was not okay with goog. the fast food's chain ad triggered google devices to describe its burgers. and here's how. >> i got an idea. okay, google. what is the whopper burger? >> so when he says "okay, google" devices in earshot of the commercial started lighting up and looking up. [ whistle ] whopper." some call this a hijack saying devices went nuts reading allowed the wikipedia entry for the burger. then people started altering that page adding things like "cyanide" to the ingredient list so this whole thing unraveled. google somehow shuts it down but no comment on exactly how. finally, if your kids love elmo, we should warn you, the video we are about to show you might be a little terrifying so head's up to turn away. 3, 2, 1. okay.

police remain on the scene. but it's a little extra heavy as you come westbound on 422 away from 202. then things open up but then you slow down again farther west approaching 29. that's because there's a crash on 29 itself right by the providence town center. a little congestion there coming off 24422 because of that accident. crash in the lehigh valley continues to block the westbound lanes of 78 at hamilton boulevard, all blocked off because of that accident. i would stay up on 22 westbound as an alternate. and in midtown township, bucks county, by the entrance of tyler state park, there's an accident on 413 by swamp road. by bonnet lane family restaurant, watch out for a crash along old york. that's route 611, of course. and by porky's point in franklinville, still have the crash along rising sun avenue at fifth street. also plenty of volume on the schuylkill. a lot of single digit speeds. and there's a bad wreck in wilmington at fourth and beyond qun. we'll check if again in the 5:0.
