"action news" reporter john rawlins is live outside new castle county court. john, what are the detail?

>> reporter: jim, this was an incident back in 2016, april of 2016, that occurred in a girls' bathroom at a local high school. a student died. the judge ruled today that what happened was not a fight. this was not two students squaring off but a one-sided attack. now, the attorney for the girl that was found delinquent of homicide said it was out of character for her. >> she a good child. this was the first fight that she's ever gotten into in her life. >> reporter: john deckers is talking about his now 17-year-old client found delinquent in the death of amy y joyner-francis at howard high school in wilmington last year. joyner-francis had an undiagnosed heart condition. it was ruled she died from stress after being beaten by the 17-year-old who attacked her. deckers says his client comes from a solid home but -- >> anybody who knows children understands that sometimes teens are pressured into engaging in activity which is contrary to what mother and father teach every day.

>> reporter: two other girls had been charged with conspiracy. one was found delinquent. the other acquit. the judge said she did not participate in the assault. a spokesperson for the victim's family and the prosecutor on those judged delinquent. >> the message that's being sent is there are consequences for your actions. >> the consequences of one's actions must be something that's considered, and kids as much as adults should be thinking about that. >> reporter: what are the consequences? have the primary attacker been convicted as an assault, she would face up to eight years it prison. family court is different. >> my hope is that we guide the youth back on track to lead the law-abiding life they were meant to lead, to have the education they were meant to have, and to be able to become productive adults. >> reporter: a widener law professor says the court will have latitude in finding a sentence from community service to anger management and other counseling. the individuals could go to a facility or stay in their homes. the goal -- rehabilitation. well, the court will have about five weeks to do an

investigation and put together a proper sentence for the two that were found delinquent today. the sentence has been set for may 23rd. live in wilmington, john rawlins, "channel 6 action news." jim? >> thank you, john. in reading, berks county, authorities are investigating the death of this man -- kenneth johnson, age 25. police tased him yesterday while trying to arrest him, and now they're waiting for autopsy results. "action news" reporter gray hall is live in reading tonight with the latest on this. gray? >> reporter: well, jim, i can tell you that autopsy is scheduled for 8:00 tonight and as investigators work to piece this case together, a mother is coming to grips that her son is gone. dramatic video obtained by "action news" shows reading police officers trying to save a man using cpr. we've learned the victim is 25-year-old kenneth johnson. he died after an altercation with police where they say they were forced to use their taser.

>> he has a daughter. i don't know what she's going to do without her father. >> reporter: his mother is trying to make sense of it all. she got the heartbreaking call wednesday on her way home from work. she now has the unnerving job of telling other family members about the tragic news. >> i had to explain to them that kenny's not here. kenny won't be coming to barbecues. kenny won't come to birthdays. so that's something i had to explain to them. >> reporter: investigators say that johnson was in a dispute with his girlfriend. officers say it started around 1:50 pence when they responded to two 911 calls about a domestic situation along the 700 block of pear street. the calls reported a woman was being beaten and screaming that someone was trying to kill her. when they arrived to the scene, police say the victim had visible bruises on her face and leg. police say they spotted johnson in an alley and attempted to arrest him, but they say he did not comply and resisted. investigators say there was a struggle between the officer and johnson. at some point, they say the officer fired his taser.

>> this is a taser n this situation is probably normal protocol. but we're -- it's early on in the investigation. >> reporter: as authorities work to complete this investigation, a heartbroken mother is waiting for answers and wondering what life will be like without her son. >> it's my first born, my only son, my only biological son. i mean, he was my world. >> reporter: back out live, we can tell you that scene unfolded in this alley right here mind me. we are in the early stages of this investigation. we can tell you that reading police officers do not have body cameras, but the officer that fired that taser has been placed on administrative leave. live tonight in reading, gray hall, "channel 6 action news." jim? >> thank you, gray. in philadelphia an assisted living facility in east oak lane is boarded up tonight after an early morning crash took out a corner of the building. two cars collided on a 1300 block of west cheltenham avenue

at 2:30 this morning. the accident cause one car to slam into the home. one staff member suffered non-life-threatening injuries. the drivers were treated at the scene. we are quickly approaching the nfl draft in philadelphia, and while the eagles are hoping for a bevy of good draft choices, local officials are also hoping for an economic bonanza for the city.
