it is friday night. monica is off. alicia vitarelli is joining us and the big story on "action news" is the rush to track down that horse before it or anyone else got hurt. >> it all started at the tail end of the morning commute in strawberry mansion. the horse wasn't caught until it had trekked about 5 miles away clear on the other side of the city. "action news" reporter gray hall is live in strawberry mansion tonight with the story and gray it looked more like a rodeo out there. >> reporter: it did alicia and rick. as you mentioned it started at this stable behind me. ended about 5 miles away. now, if you were driving that would take you about that 20 minutes. if you were walking it would take you over an hour and 14 minutes but we're talking about a horse and she was on the run. friday morning the streets of philadelphia turned into a mini racetrack. a runaway horse named proud queen akk big momma was on the run. witnesses had quite the story to tell. >> i come to work in the morning, i actually videoed a little bit of it. this is what happens in

philadelphia when you come to work on friday morning. >> reporter: big momma's owners believe someone left her stable gate opened at the fletcher street urban riding club along fledge he were street in the city's strawberry mansion section. he was right, lonnie sullivan who also has a horse at the stable says it was him. >> right here. >> they bum rushed me. knocked me down. >> reporter: he quickly learned he was no match for a horse's speed. it tried to catch the horse on a bike. she left him in a trail of dust. >> i jumped on the bike to try to get him. i tried to get the bike to get the horse. well, i'm tired. >> reporter: this all started just before 7:00 a.m. chopper6 captured the images from the sky and witnesses took video from the ground as big momma took a stroll around the city. the wild adventure was short lived and ended along richmond street in the city's port richmond section. officers were able to catch the animal and transport it back to a stable. >> whoa, big momma like this my prize right here. you see what i'm saying.

but i don't know, man, i'm just glad she safe and didn't hurt anyone. >> reporter: her escape put her in the spotlight but big momma has a bigger story. her owner tells "action news" she is a rescue horse. >> they would have killed her. they actually value slaughterhouse they would have sent her to the killers is what we call them but we saved her, gave her a better life. now she has a good home. >> reporter: if horses could talk we're sure big momma would be a great interview. her owners tell us they're glad she's back home and wasn't hurt. they're hoping this never happens again. >> make sure her stall is that locked, that's it. >> reporter: all right back out live of course some good advice. big momma's owners say they warrant to give a big thank you to the philadelphia police department for all of their help. we're happy to report tonight big momma back home with all of her friends. she's doing fine. live in strawberry mansion gray hall channel6 "action news." rick. >> quite an adventure for big momma today. thank you gray. in other news philadelphia police identified the two women killed in this morning's crash along the roosevelt boulevard. police say 40-year-old marsha

flowers and 25-year-old asia nicole holland riding in the suv when it slammed into a parked truck around 9 o'clock this morning. the driver survived and is currently recovering in the hospital. according to police, the driver was trying to pass slow traffic and did not see the tractor-trailer parked ahead. the truck's driver tells "action news" he was taking a federally mandated rest break and was at a nearby hotel when the crash happened. the truck was parked legally at the time. >> turning now to the accuweather forecast and the beautiful holiday weekend in store for the delaware valley. taking a live look outside from our temple university sky6 camera, you can see the zoo balloon there off in the distance. it really felt like spring, a good dose of it all week long, but by the end of the weekend mother nature will be turning up the heat and it will feel a little more like summer. meteorologist melissa magee is in for cecily tynan. she's live outside with the holiday weekend forecast. hey, melissa. >> hey, alicia.

yeah, it was really nice today and even as we go throughout the rest of the afternoon and evening hours, temperatures are pretty comfortable with a fair amount of sun overhead. right now in philadelphia it's 67. the upper 60's for allentown and reading. 62 up in the poconos. cooler at the coast though from beach haven down cape may, numbers be there are only in the 50's. here is satellite6 along with action radar. we have a partly sunny sky across the region. off to the west there's more in the way of cloud cover as a frontal boundary tries top inch closer to our region. it makes fit our way as we get into the start of our weekend on saturday. so, for tomorrow, we have clouds and a few sunny breaks as the day wears on. 8:00 a.m. that temperature in at 53. it's mostly cloudy still at 11:00 a.m. and at 62. more sun peaking through those clouds tomorrow afternoon with numbers in the upper 60's. 5 o'clock tomorrow, 66. 8:00 p.m. we've got a mostly clear sky and a number in at 64. but overall looking ahead, things will be exceptional as we head into easter weekend.

beautiful beyond that. we'll be tracking some rain very late in the seven day. we'll take a closer look guys coming up in the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. >> holy week is coming to a close and today many around our area were honoring good friday and getting ready for celebrations this weekend. >> the action cam was at presbyterian church this afternoon in center city for the noon good friday service. today's theme for the mass was after the passion. >> ♪ >> seven local united methodist churches gathered to worship together at the historic tenley temple umc on this good friday. the service commemorated the last seven words of jesus with a song and a sermon for each word. pastors and mass choir with members from all seven churches made a joyful noise in south philadelphia today. in trenton some took their prayers outside to perform the stations of the cross.

the procession recreates the crucifixion of jesus which is commemorated on good friday. >> and of course many are looking forward to easter sunday and the goodies that come along with the holiday meal. termini brothers in south philadelphia was packed with customers picking up their treats today to cannoli to of course famous easter cake shaped like bunnies and lambs. those ovens were working overtime to turn over all those easter orders. very delicious. >> uh-huh. >> preparations are also under way in new jersey. >> new jersey correspondent nora muchanic is live in ewing with what's going on across the delaware tonight. hi there, nora. >> reporter: hi there, rick and alicia. we're here at the trenton farmer's market where the place is exploding in color, the easter flowers are on display. take a look at them and they're for sale but that's not that's for sale here at the market. we caught up with folks getting ready for the big holiday. how many for dinner. >> about 25. >> reporter: that's all. >> that's all.

help them patrol the area. they donated new uniforms bikes racks and car hitches that attach to squad cars. the police foundation helped with today's donation. the hope is to increase police visibility in neighborhoods which has been proven to deter crimes. >> good for them. time for a check of our "action news" traffic report. folks trying to get a head start on that holiday weekend. >> yeah, matt pelman with all the details. hey, matt. >> i'm not going to go as far as to say it's a good friday afternoon on this good friday afternoon on the roads, rick and alicia, but things are looking better now than they were an hour ago so we'll take that. we had a broken down septa bus here in the westbound lanes of the vine near the ben franklin parkway. it's cleared out now so just moderate traffic in both directions along the vine. not quite as busy at this point as a normal friday afternoon r but it is crowded on the schuylkill expressway. westbound side by city avenue just 6 miles per hour and still very busy on the eastbound pennsylvania turnpike, speeds like 14 miles per hour. earlier crash eastbound

>> passengers can be offered up to almost $10,000 to give up their seat on an overbooked flight. that's from an internal memo obtained by the associated press. according to that memo gate agents are allowed to offer up to $2,000 in compensation. supervisors can offer up to $9,950.

delta's move comes less than a week after a.m. passenger wall forcibly removed from a united flight after not enough people volunteered to give up their seats. more republican officials in new jersey respect pulling their support for an assembly candidate after he was caught on camera making a vulgar comment to a woman at a bar. the video in question is of brian mcdowell a former contestant on the apprentice. it happened at good night irene's in wildwood. the clip shows mcdowell slurring his words as he sexually propositions a woman. mcdowell told "action news" he regrets his actions. >> that many moment it was a jest full conversation with a friend of mine that i've known for over 10 years its no the something that i'm proud of, okay the fact is that i said it. you know, i probably shouldn't have said it. >> after that video surfaced the gop in cape may county dropped their backing of mcdowell. today cumberland county republicans made a similar

>> it is time now for the accuweather forecast at the "action news" big board. >> meteorologist melissa magee in for cecily tonight. she has the latest on what's turning out to be a nice weekend. >> you'll like it. today wasn't bad across the area. easter sunday is more like summer across the region. right now philadelphia it's coming in at 67, dewpoint in at 33t winds are calm. that pressure 30.31 still on the rise. the ocean temperature coming in at 52. as we look at the numbers still the upper 60's along the i-95 corridor. 68 in reading. 68 as well in allentown. much cooler though at the coast with that wind coming in right off the water. 57 in beach haven. 55 in cape may atlantic city at the airport coming in at

59. here at satellite6 along with action radar we have a partly cloudy sky across the midatlantic region but you look offer to the west and this is where we are finding a little bit of unsettled weather. eventually we're tracking a warm front snaked in across the great lakes and the ohio valley. this warm front as we go throughout the weekend will be lifting northward across the midatlantic region and as it does so first it's going to bring in some clouds and then eventually that warmer air. as we go throughout the day and if you're out on the town tonight temperature at 64 degrees still a fair amount of sun overhead. 61 at 8 o'clock. it's mostly clear and clear and dry. 57 at 10 o'clock and 55 degrees tonight at 11:00 p.m. here's future tracker six. you can see as we go throughout the day tomorrow as that warm front lifts through there could be some clouds around in the morning, even still in the afternoon as well and perhaps stray shower well north and west as we get into very late saturday afternoon into saturday evening. so, clouds and a few sunny breaks as the day wears on tomorrow. high temperature in at 66.

67 in wilmington, 68 in dover, cape may tomorrow 57. we begin that stray shower north and west of philadelphia. fast forward no easter. we have some stats to share with you. easter weather over the last 20 years it's quite a wide range in temperatures here. the coldest day 43 degrees in april of 2007. the warmest was 84 in 2011 and we're forecasting a high temperature for easter in at 85 degrees. so s-the easter egg hunt should be okay by then. sunrise services a mild start, a temperature of 61. sun and clouds noon and at 78 and 85 with a summer feel by 5:00 p.m. on sunday. the accuweather forecast showing you clouds to sun tomorrow, 66. 85 for the high for easter. putting a sun on monday and it's pleasant, too, a temperature of 74. then the upper 60's on the way as we get into tuesday. wednesday looking at a bit unsettled. we'll let you know if that pattern sticks around for the rest of the week. that forecast at 5:30.

>> monica is off. alicia vitarelli joining us tonight. here's what's happening on "action news" friday evening. was the dropping of the mother of all bombs a warning to north korea? president trump is stepping up his rhetoric and the communist country isn't backing down promising to test another nuclear weapon. a young man left to die on a philadelphia street and police are still looking for the person who pulled the trigger. also major plans are ahead for two historic buildings in wilmington. we'll tell you what's in store for the old dupont plant and the hotel dupont. >> and now the details. new satellite images show a north korean nuclear site "primed and ready for a test that could come this week. ." president donald trump has called north korea a problem t that's looking for trouble as some are asking what message this massive bombing in afghanistan is sending across the globe. abc's jay norman is live... janai norman is live in washington, d.c. with the latest.

>> reporter: president trump is spend, the holiday weekend at mar-a-lago. we'll be watching to see what happens if north korea goes through with a nuclear weapons test. all eyes on the pacific ahead of an anticipated nuclear weapons test in north korea. >> north korea's a problem. the problem will be taken care of. >> reporter: with global tensions already flaring, president trump's tweets calling north korea a problem and a menace that's looking for trouble may only be adding fuel to the fire. north korea's vice foreign minister said washington has become more vicious and more aggressive since trump took office. all of this as satellite images show a north korean nuclear test site primed and ready. >> north korea's got to change its behavior. >> reporter: ahead of that test that could come this weekend questions ohio river valley what message dropping that massive bomb in eastern afghanistan sends to north korea. that massive ordnance air blast nicknamed the mother of all bombs, weighs

22,000 pounds and is the largest nonnuclear bomb the u.s. has ever dropped in that combat. part of the ongoing fight against isis. >> we will remove the sanctuary in afghanistan so that fighters may not flow from syria to afghanistan. this weapon was the appropriate weapon to use against this target. prior to this we didn't have such a target. >> reporter: former iranian president mahmoud ahmadinejad questioning that on twitter saying is the person that tropical storm the world's largest bomb in afghanistan a bearer of peace or a demon. it doesn't appear president trump took any senior staff with him to mar-a-lago. abc asked what military at virus -- ad virus -- advisers would accompany trump. >> pat meehan stopped by "action news" today to talk about the bomb drop in afghanistan. he said he supported the

military action. >> the use of a weapon that of sort lets them know there's going to be again a proportional response to isis activities wherever it may happen. it also strengthens the ability of the afghan authorities to -- to counteract the activities that are taking place. >> congressman meehan added that president trump seems to be more measured in his decision making and taking guidance from experienced advisers. congressman meehan will be one of the guest on inside story. you can hear more about what he a has to say about the current administration this sunday at 11:30 right here on 6abc. the investigation continues tonight into what's being called a misdirected coalition air strike that killed 18 allies in syria. it happened tuesday near the isis strong hold city of raqqa. u.s. officials say the coalition air strike killed members of the syrian democratic forces an opposition group supported by the united states in the fight

against isis. >> well, a big fire broke out at one of the most luxurious hotels in las vegas shutting down part of the strip overnight. that plays at the famed bellagio hotel sparked just after 10:30 last night. the flames quickly spread from a shopping area to the hotel's roof. the strip closed traffic for about 30 minutes to keep tourists safe from flaming debris that started raining down. pretty incredible video. 75 firefighters were needed to get that fire under control. though the roof was seriously damaged no one was hurt. investigators are looking for a cause. exnfl star aaron hernandez was that found not guilty in a boston double slaying prosecutors said was fueled by his anger over a spilled drink at a nightclub. he was acquitted of murder and other charges in the 2012 killing of daniel day

hernandez has identified killing world news tonight with david muir will have more on the top stories from across the globe including the latest on those growing tensions between the u.s. and north korea and you can watch that that following "action news" at 6:00. >> back here a twenty two-year-old man was shot and left to die on the street in philadelphia it's strawberry mansion section and philadelphia police are searching for the person who pulled the trigger. this was the scene along the 2700 block of west sergeant street before 2:00 a.m. the victim was shot in the back. it's not clear if the 22-year-old man was actually involved in that altercation. anyone with information about what happened is asked to call police. a man is facing charges tonight after police say he accidentally shot his friend in the parking garage at the tropicana hotel and casino near atlantic city. authorities say 20-year-old joseph crouch and the victim 19-year-old kevin neld were in

a car last night when crouch allegedly pulled out a gun. as neld was being driven to the hospital crouch tossed the gun out of the car. it was later recovered by tropicana security. neld is listed in critical condition. >> the fbi has joined burlington county police to investigate the double murder of a mother and her six-year-old son. this is a story our new jersey news room has been following tonight. a 38-year-old woman and her son were found of stabbed to death at their home in the fox med tow apartments in march. her husband reportedly made the gruesome discovery after returning home to maple shade from a work related gathering. both emigrated from eighty nine to work at a information technology company. at last check neither police nor federal agents had a suspect or a motive. >> the problem of urban

violence. attorney general josh shapiro kicked off the day long. the issues included human trafficking trauma care and violence prevention. the new owner of the dupont building plans to give the complex a renovation. the group has purchased the dupont building along with hotel dupont playhouse at rodney square and another office building in wilmington. the properties will be converted into a mixed use complex that includes living retail office and dining options. the renovations are expected to take three to four years. >> matt pelman is in the "action news" traffic center now trying to get folks home on this friday night. >> friday night a lot of folks had off today but you wouldn't know that on the roadways at this hour, would you matt. >> no, at least not as of a couple of hours ago but we've sort of converted this evening commute as well its look a whole lot better than when i first saw you around 4 o'clock. now we're moving along pretty well here on the schuylkill expressway in university city although just up ahead there

this terrible accident? >> reporter: well, jim, the latest is the police have formally identified the two people who died in the collision that occurred just before 8 o'clock this morning. they have also interviewed the driver who survived. he is the husband of the 40-year-old who perished. police now believe the driver of the beige expedition was attempting to overtake slower traffic passing on the right but not seeing the parked 18-wheeler in the right lane. the impact was heard more than a block away. >> like a big loud noise. it was like boom. >> reporter: the suv hit with such force a portion of its glass and sheet metal embedded in the rear of the trailer. police have that identified the dead as 40-year-old marshye flowers the driver's wife from north philadelphia. and family friend 25-year-old asia nicole holland of the 8500 block of luther place in southwest philadelphia. police say the tractor-trailer was legally parked in the outer lane of the roadway. parking is
