firing at the van and was then shot and killed by police. one police source says that this was likely a terrorist act but there is no official confirmation of that by parition authorities. they do also say that the assailant was previously flagged as an extremist. here again as in so many assaults the attacker was known to local authorities. of course the shooting comes three days before france's presidential election. world news tonight with david muir has the latest developments from paris next at 6:30 here on channel 6. both sides presented their opening statements in camden today in the trial of 23-year-old david creato charged with murdering his 3-year-old

son. sara bloomquist is live outside of the camden county courthouse. sara opening statements and the beginning of testimony what did you learn today. >> reporter: jim only a few witnesses were called today following the opening statements. the most interesting testimony came from brendon creato's mother that the defendant david creato suggested that his son was drawn to the woods by spirits where his body was found. he sat motionless as the trial got underway in camden county court. they toll the case that was carefully instructed to make his client look guilty but he is not. >> he goes by dj david jr. and the accused of -- is the most heinous thing a person can be accused of. but he is innocent. >> jurors heard creato's 911

call when he told police he woke up and found his son missing. hours later brendon was found partially submerged in a creek more than a half mile from his father's apartment. and christine shaw refuted the idea that he walked there on his own the boy's socks were clean and he feared the dark. >> if there is one thing -- brendon loved brendon one thing we'll all agree to -- >> brendon's mother says that creato offered a bizarre explanation weeks after his son's death. >> he told me, that a spirit told him to walk down to the woods which is -- completely

assaulting a former player and fathering her 7-month-old child. francisco contreras was arrested yesterday and faces statutory sexual assault. and a 15-year-old tells police that he cohersed her to have sex for money. today we have learned more about the circumstances leading up to police shooting and killing a criminal suspect yesterday in bellefonte, delaware. that is where "action news" reporter vernon odom is live tonight. what is the real story? >> jim, the suspect's name released this afternoon keith price. he was from wilmington delaware and wanted in connection with an attempted murder earlier this month april 9th in fact and now dead at the hands of police.

police officers utilizing fully marked patrol vehicles attempted to stop keith price at 24th street and market street. >> newcastle police gave their account of what led to the shooting of keith price after a pair of confrontations with price sandwiched that started in wilmington. and there was a warn out for price in connection with the shooting on lamson lane in newcastle. when police spotted him they ordered him to get out of his vehicle and then police said he refused to surrender. >> keith price refused to comply with officer's commands and instead drove his vehicle toward the officers which resulted in an officer firing their handgun at keith price. >> and a chase ensued and a cruiser crash add long the way

and price crash nood a civilian vehicle in bellefonte and fled on foot and through this church parking lot and hid in bushes. >> keith price reappeared and pointed a handgun at the officer which resulted in the officer firing their departmentally issued handgun striking keith price. >> reporter: jim, police say that price was pronounced here at the scene. police say they have recovered the handgun they say that he pointed at the officer yesterday. live in bellefonte, delaware, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a woman was seriously hurt after she was accidently struck by her own vehicle this morning. it happened gist before 9:30 on brook road in plymouth township. investigators say she was getting out of her vehicle when some how her clothing became stuck in the door. the vehicle didn't stop and ran

her down. the woman was taken to pentress tearan hospital where she is in critical condition. >> there hasn't been many joyful days for atlantic city but this was one. they broke ground on a $20 million satellite campus for stockton university. >> reporter: the trio wore hard hats a good look for the rollout of this $21 million construction project dubbed atlantic city's gateway. >> this project demonstrates we turned the corner in our commitment to revitalize atlantic city. >> this is already a sprawling construction site it houses 200 corporate staffers of south jersey gas and next door dorm space for 500 stockton students and classrooms across the street for 1800 more and shuttles

volunteers from several volunteer water companies pitched in to spruce up the park in camden. they raked up the last of winter's leaves and planned 200 new plants and the facility will include new rain gardens as well as natural play spaces for children. next the story about giving and receiving. in this case giving and receiving a life saving organ. a particularly good story because april is national donate life month. new jersey correspondent, nora muchanic has the story. >> jaime is recovering from a life saving kidney transplant she underwent march 21st at the university of pennsylvania medical center. it includes 14 recipients around the country including an aunt in california. >> i can't even explain that link, someone giving their organ for you.

it's amazing. >> jaime was diagnosed with kidney failure days before she was to start the nursing program at stockton university. >> she is my daughter and that is all i wanted to be able to finish college and have a great life and not be on dialysis. >> one was burlington county freeholder linda hughes who turned out to be a match. they found a better match and hughes decided to donate a kidney nany way and will be par of a chain to donate kidneys around the nation. hughes will miss four weeks of work at health care in evesham. >> in return i am giving someone decaded of new life. >> they are grateful that the chain of donations and

temperatures, south of philadelphia and dover you'll likely hit 80 degrees and philadelphia 10 degrees warmer than average at 76 and allentown and trenton temperatures likely will only climb into the upper 60s, right now mild and philadelphia 75 degrees down from the high of 77. and allentown 72 and the cool spot along the coast with the ocean temperature 53 degrees and cape may 59. cooler in cape may than in the poconos. satellite 6 along with action radar showing we started the day with clouds and early showers and got peeks of sunshine mid-day and that is a cluster i'm tracking moving through this evening and then a cold front that will push in later on in the overnight hours, it could bring showers for the morning north of philadelphia. future tracker 6 timing it out at 9:00 and we'll see showers and thunderstorms to the west moving through philadelphia at

11:00. tomorrow morning plenty of clouds and lingering showers and perhaps an embedded thunderstorm in berks county and the lehigh valley and the poconos and then by the afternoon we should see peeks of sunshine and then it will be unsettled. so a few pop-ups mainly across seasonal tomorrow afternoon and again tomorrow temperatures should be relatively mild. saturday though behind the cold front, temperatures drop about 10 degrees in philadelphia. and 66, which is seasonable. and we could see sunshine early and it clouds up quickly and showers developing late in the day and saturday night the low pressure the latest trends with the low moving in quicker and also pushing it to the south, that means the soaking rain i was expecting on sunday looks to be missing us to the south and we see showers and it doesn't look nearly as wet as it was yesterday and by the afternoon could see peeks of sunshine. tropical storm arlene the first storm of the atlantic hurricane

season formed today with 45 miles per hour winds in the north atlantic and the very rare for tropical storm to be named in april. the last time was 14 years ago and the good news is arlene is a fish storm and no threat to land and should be dissipated tomorrow. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast very warm tomorrow and scattered showers and thunderstorms 76 and much cooler saturday and 66 and clouds up and showers arriving late in the day. and sunday showers early and if the trends continue to push the low to the south late in the afternoon we should see breaks of sunshine and 60 and bump it up to 66 on monday and mostly cloudy and a shower on tuesday and 63 and wednesday really nice and 5-and good news for the nfl draft on thursday partly sunny and warm with a high of 77. not a perfect weekend but not a washout on sunday. >> thank you. there is nothing much sweeter than donuts and spending time with dad. this morning youngsters in delaware county got to do both.
