approach a woman and do this on a city street in daylight hours. >> reporter: this grainy video is from the assault in princeton on april 12 of the the victim was walking along moore street near spruce when the suspect runs up behind grabs her buttocks with two hands then turns around and takes off. >> that's disturbing. i mean, because you don't think of anything happening like that in downtown princeton. that doesn't make a lot of sense to me but this world is changing. >> reporter: the victim a grad student at princeton gave police a description resulting in this sketch. detectives think this is the smith who committed similar assaults in town once a year since 2014. >> we feel based on his actions and his patterns this probably occurring to other victims and it's either unreported and happening in other jurisdictions. >> reporter: this is the sketch from the 2015 groping. police say the way the assault occurs aren't the physical descriptions are nearly identical.

>> most of the time i try to be as vigilant as possible. princeton is a very safe place. usually you feel at home. >> not only isolated to camden newark things like that it really can happen anywhere so you got to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. >> we'll keep our eyes opened. if we see him we'll report him. i hope he doesn't do it anymore. >> reporter: the police chief believes the suspect is local or at least knows the area well and the department is circulating the video and the sketch hoping to track down this serial groper. >> hopefully we're going to have people come forward that know this person. we need the -- we need the public's help. >> reporter: now, princeton police are contacting area departments to see if they have similar cases there because they highly doubt he's been doing this just once a year. if you recognize that sketch or you may have been a victim yourself and never reported it, the police would like to hear from you. live in princeton, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news". >> nora, thank you.

we have breaking news right now out of burlington county. chopper6 live over the scene of what was a pretty big fire here in cinnaminson. this is the garden state inn on the 600 block of route 130. firefighters were called out to the scene just about 30 minutes ago for reports of a fire. we are told that when they arrived on scene flames and smoke were shooting out of that section of the building right now. no injuries reported at this time. but drivers are being asked to avoid route 130. there are several first responders and fire trucks right there on scene but a fire at the garden state inn in cinnaminson burlington county. new details as we get them. >> a quick thinking victim led police to two arrests in an early morning kidnapping in vineland cumberland. police say these suspect colon and reyes allegedly abducted someone from a home on northeast avenue. they took that person to a convenience store to withdraw money from an atm but the victim secretly alerted a clerk who called police.

when officers arrived the two suspects were still sitting in a car in the parking lot. the victim is being treated for minor injuries. >> well, we started the day with rain and those clouds are lingering. sky6 looking live at the dreary center city skyline this afternoon. it is not pretty. want the good news? the weekend is almost upon us. meteorologist adam joseph live at the big board with the forecast from accuweather including the weekend. hey, adam. >> that is a good thing but when you hear the forecast you may say, emeh, a few sprinkles but really that is about it after that solid area of rain that passed through this morning. that is off the coast. the clouds did not break today and it kept that warmth just to our south and where that warmth is we're starting to fire up some storms near washington and baltimore but most of these are sinking to the south and east at this point but a solid area of clouds all the way back into the ohio valley. in fact we were right on the

media for live updates all day long. >> homeowners are assessing the damage after fire spread to multiple houses in camden. firefighters were called to mechanic street into your lewis street. flames started at one house but jumped to the one next door forcing troops to call for more manpower. no one was hurt but a lot of damage was left behind. a fire in philadelphia damaged multiple homes in lawncrest along the 500 block of east cheltenham avenue. there was a lot of smoke coming from the second floor at 3:30 this morning. the neighboring homes have smoke damage. >> a late night barrage of bullets left a man critically injured in the logan section of philadelphia. and a man asleep in his bed is lucky that he wasn't also hurt. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes has the story as police interviewed two persons of interest. >> reporter: this morning residents woke up to news of heavy gunfire that erupted overnight just outside of their homes. >> no, i'm not surprised.

everybody got a gun nowadays, so -- >> reporter: philadelphia police say around 11:30 thursday night shots rang out near the intersection of north 15th and couldn't lon streets in the logan section of the city just a couple of blocks away from a police station. police responded to the scene and saw a vehicle take off, two guns were later tossed out of that moving car a couple blocks down the street. two men now described as persons of interest were brought in for questioning. are you surprised that this happened here. >> nothing don't surprise me no more sweety. >> reporter: a car was riddled with bullets, nearly two dozen shell casings were later found on the ground. one bullet narrowly missed a 57-year-old man sound asleep in his home. he would later find it lodged in his bed post feet weigh from his head. >> he just blessed. it wasn't his time. you know, what i'm saying 'cause a freak accident could happen to anybody at any time. >> reporter: but to police it seemed there was know shooting victim. at least initially until they got a call. >> while investigating the scene they were notified by

einstein hospital that a 29-year-old male showed up by private auto struck by gunfire multiple times in his left arm, left shoulder and left torso. >> afterward go home, that's it. just try to be off the street, you know. it's nothing going on out here. >> reporter: i'm jeanette reyes for channel6 "action news." >> the man who carried out yesterday's attack on police in paris apparently had a note with him defending isis. paris prosecutor released the new information saying the piece of paper fell out of his pocket. the 39-year-old hm a long criminal record of threats against police shot and killed an officer on the champs elysees. he was killed by responding officers o he was arrested in february but released because there was not enough evidence against him. >> ♪ >> president trump said he's preparing to roll out a plan that would mean "massive tax cuts for individuals and businesses." in an interview with the

associated press the president declined to offer specifics of the plan but did say the proposed cuts would be "bigger i believe than any tax cut ever." it remains unclear if the plan will generate enough support in the republican controlled congress to pass. >> time right now for a check of the "action news" traffic report for your friday afternoon. >> friday people trying speed home for the weekend. matt pelman standing by in the "action news" traffic center. looks like no one is going anywhere real, real fast. >> yeah, they can try. i mean, i'm not sure that it's going to work out real well for them but yeah, here on the vine street expressway we're definitely not speeding. it's crowded in both directions and you can't get by if you're trying to drive on the ben franklin parkway's inner drives. they remain blocked in both directions as we get ready for the nfl draft t but look at it this way. i think this friday afternoon is probably better than next friday afternoon is going to be when the draft is actually going on and we have the penn relays. the end of next week is going to be crazy on the roads around here. on the big picture this afternoon, though, no shortage of red zones already just 9 miles per hour on the northbound side of 95.

we're also watching a broken down vehicle on kelly drive outbound right near the city avenue interchange. and there's a crash early this afternoon in west chester. i would avoid the intersection of market street and westtown road. broken down vehicle is what giving us problems here in montgomery township along 309 at welsh road, just 8 miles per hour on the approach to that and over near palmyra we've got a motel fire along 130 southbound side near highland avenue. it's all jammed up there. if you want to stay over on 295 or the new jersey turnpike instead of 130, volume is building especially on 295 but i think that's still a better bet. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report on this finally friday afternoon. happy friday. in lower merion watching a crash along fairhill road this afternoon just off of kent road. so we'll keep tabs on that and all the other many issues brian and monica in the next half hour. >> my friend see you shortly. thank you. still ahead here on "action news" at 4:00 will philadelphia parking go high tech? details about a new idea to help frustrated residents who are constantly stuck looking for a spot.

>> ♪ >> that tennessee teen who was kidnapped by her teacher is on her way back home today. authorities found 15-year-old elizabeth thomas living in a remote california cabin yesterday with tad cummins. they were using fake names and pretended that elizabeth was 24. a man living with them noticed the odd behavior and called police. elizabeth has been gone for five weeks but her family never gave up hope.

>> she was standoffish. he was talking for her keeping her away. >> we're going to be patient with her. we've got to -- got to get her the help she needs. >> authorities say the two documented their journey together collecting rocks and writing notes about the places they'd been. cummins is now inn custody in sacramento and is expected to be in court on monday. >> volkswagen will pay a $2.8 billion criminal penalty for its cheating scandal. a judge signed off on the deal which the company and the u.s. justice department negotiate odd. six weeks ago the german automaker pleaded guilty to conspiracy and obstruction research justice. vw admits nearly 600,000 diesel cars were programmed to cheat on emissioning tests. the company is paying more than a billion dollars for a civil case and 11 billion for a buy back program.

value slice of nice. looking the the pagoda cam in reading, the brightest spot is the trees they're turning green out there but as we look to what is the hills of berks county really not seeing them with some low clouds and again, some drizzle in spots. storm tracker6 live double scan from georgetown through mount who to woodbury gibbsboro swedesboro light along the new jersey turnpike there are some sprinkles kind of falling at times and that's going to be the general trend overnight a lot of clouds and there could be some mist or drizzle at times but we're not looking at any steady heavy rain during the overnight hours. 59 is the temperature. that is it right now. 53 is your dewpoint. winds are out of the east at 7 miles per hour. we couldn't turn that wind out of the south to bring a front to the north bring in that warmth today. the ocean temperature at 54 degrees. as we look at the numbers, we're trying to hit that 70 in millville, dover 65 degrees, 62 in reading, 58 allentown

and only 50's for the most part in long beach island while atlantic city down to cape may a little bit better, 60, sun. -- 61. locally we had morning steady rain that passed through, was off the coast by 10 or 11 o'clock. caught a break throughout most of the afternoon and again a few sprinkles developing but where they saw some sun and they're in the 80's right now baltimore and washington. you can see some storms cooking up but since we didn't seat sun we're not going to see the storms develop here this evening and overnight. so if you're heading to the phillies it's cloudy, it's dreary. there could be some mist or drizzle at times with that easterly wind five to 10 miles per hour. not much movement in the temperatures from the first pitch through the ninth inning in the upper 50's. future tracker tomorrow morning there could be a little ribbon of rain in southern areas, cloudy philadelphia to the north and west and then another area of rain a little more significant will try to blossom here saturday evening into saturday night. this is at 6 o'clock. the driest location this weekend would be farther to the north. sunday morning still dealing with some showers in southern

areas, dry to the north but by sunday afternoon, hopefully we will see some peeks of sun before the day ends. as we take a look at the four day at 4:00 forecast, 62 cloudy with some afternoon showers at times developing especially into saturday evening. similar temperatures with some peeks of sun by the end of the day and then the dreary pattern pulls back in monday, tuesday, cloudy with on and off showers and temperatures on either side of 60 degrees but right when that nfl draft begins next week the temperatures are going to skyrocket. i'll show you that in the seven day in the next half hour. >> looking forward to it. thanks adam. >> thank you. little leaguers have a beautiful newfield thanks to some trenton students volunteering today. at-risk youth helped rebuild the chambersberg little league field as part of the trenton thunder's community outreach program. they spruced up reoutfitted the dugout and the field so the next generation of sluggers has a nice place to

time and skills to this new police athletic league building in fishtown. their fresh coat of paint helped transform the center's new gym. they replaced a number of broken windows. city leaders were on hand to thank the volunteers for their dedication. the mayor stressed the importance pal has on the city and of course the impact on his own life. >> police athletic league is a place where a child should first encounter police officer not in the back of a cruiser in handcuffs but in this gym doing something positive and my own memories of the police athletic league growing up and i wanted to show you my 1970 police athletic league card my i.d. with my picture which is a lot younger than i am now. >> come on you look the same. the new pal center is expected to open in just the next few weeks. the phillies are getting ready to celebrate phanatic's birthday. this morning his mom, phoebe phanatic had young fans sign his birthday card.

>> ♪ >> hello again. 4:30 and "action news" continues with the man accused in racially motivated shooting in court. what he was shouting. >> a philadelphia woman finds a stranger in her apartment. details on the vehicle police are now searching for. >> but first here at 4:30 lawyers for the man convicted in the killing of a pal state trooper continue to fight for his life in a pike county courtroom. today the defense for are rick frein began. annie mccormick live in milford. annie you have the latest on the penalty phase of this case. >> reporter: brian, that's right, in this penalty phase today, the defense was able to start calling their witnesses. that did include an expert in

prison life and adjustment to prison. he gave examples to the jury about how life in prison is a harsh sentence but the d.a. argued in so many words he doesn't think it's harsh enough. today the defense got their turn during the penalty phrase in the trial. frein's defense attorney choosing to call an expert to explain life in prison to jurors. >> we're talking about life and death here. we think the jurors might be shattered by when they hear what life really is. prison is not a country club. there are no country clubs from which you're not allowed to go home. >> reporter: a jury will decide if 33-year-old eric frein will spend life in prison or if he will be sentenced to death. wednesday the same jury convicted frein on 12 counts for the sniper attack targeting state police at random outside the blooming grove barracks in the poconos. he killed bryan dickson and

critically wounded trooper alex douglass who survived but has health issues. prosecution wrapped up impact testimony from corporal dixon's family including his mother who says she suffers from health problems and smoke lovingly of of the husband and father. >> as she mentioned, she for gives him, doesn't hate him but she also wants accountability. >> reporter: thursday dixon's widow described the hardship this has been on their two sons and today the prosecution showed family videos of the slain father hoping to get their message across to the jury. >> the law is is that if they find an aggravating circumstance an mitigating circumstance, they can then use that testimony in evidence in their weighing process of the appropriate penalty in this case. >> reporter: and the penalty phase is expected to go into next week. now, the defense said they do

believe that some members of eric frein's family will testify on his behalf but they say that eric frein has not decided yet if he will take the stand. for now reporting live in milford, pike county, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." back to you. >> thank you annie. the man accused of shooting and killing three white men in fresno california this week entered the courtroom shouting about natural disasters. >> kori ali muhammad shout owed "let black peep people go in that reparations. he's charged with killing an unarmed security guard at a motel six earlier this month. police say muhammad shot and killed three people this past tuesday during what they call a.m. racially motivated shooting spree. public defenders have asked for a psychological evaluation. his arraignment has been postponed until next month. >> from our delaware news room today new castle county police arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection with the shooting

of a 15-year-old. this is video from the scene of the night of april 16th. police say the 15-year-old was shot in the unit block of south pen walt drive in edgemoor. the victim has since been released from the hospital. officials tell "action news" an investigation led them to obtain an arrest warrant for that 13-year-old this week. they say he turned himself in yesterday. he was charged with first degree assault, possession of a firearm and two counts of first degree reckless endangering. he's being held at the new castle county detention center on a $35,000 bond. >> in new jersey t-lawyers are arguing whether prospective jurors in the corruption trial of senator bob bob menendez cane asked if they voted for him. he's charged with conspiracy. menendez has maintained his innocence. the trial is expected to begin in september. >> a 50-year-old woman in the

city's fairmount section says she walked into her apartment and found a stranger inside. police released this surveillance video of the incident. they say around 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon the woman and her grandson walked into the apartment on the 2,000 block of hamilton street. the woman saw the man and asked what he was doing but he then ran away. police say he drove off in a light blue chevy impala. >> a trenton man has been charged with third degree murder after an overnight crash kills one person in bucks county. police arrested 23-year-old arthur lewis. they say he was driving under the influence when state troopers attempted to pull him over. officials say lewis was fleeing from troopers when he lost control of the car and crashed in the northbound be lanes of i-95 that of bristol. that crash killed 22-year-old javerai mahmoud. lewis and two others were taken to the hospital. officials say they found drugs in the car and a jacket at the scene. >> at least we got rid of the

rain but those clouds just sticking around tonight. >> yeah, they're hanging tough. they will be here all weekend long. maybe the end of the week we'll get a little bit of sun here sunday afternoon but as we take a look right now live from sky6 at the philadelphia international airport, not bad weather-wise. we're not seeing any heavy rain out there or thunderstorms. 59 degrees right now the air temperature at the airport. easterly wind at 7 miles per hour. just a low ceiling mean something low clouds at the airport, that's the technical term that they use there and at the talon energy stadium in chester live on sky6 similar scene with a lot of clouds. some areas trying to brighten up just a tad at 61 right there. and in fact, that will be a popular place here tomorrow as our philadelphia union playing in town tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. there could be a shower or two along with those clouds so if you're heading there definitely bring some of the rain gear, 62 degrees the starting temperature and very similar for the finish, not much of a jump in temperature

there. we'll chat about a steady round of showers coming in over part of the weekend. we'll take a look at it on future tracker6 and also talk about next week which is kind of a 50-50 week. half of the week not so good the other spectacular. >> sounds good adam. new rules coming to new jersey's seaside heights in an effort to deter bad behavior. officials voted to extend paid beach access hours to 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays and to close the beach after that. the beach was free after 5 o'clock in the evening. the boardwalk will be closed between 3 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. the new rules also ban any smoking including e-cigarettes and limit the size of coolers umbrellas and canopies. >> the 15th president of west chester university was formally inaugurated today. president christopher fiorentino took the oath of office. he joined a university faculty in 1983 as an assistant professor of economics. west chester university is the

largest of the 14 state owned institutions. >> ♪ after 23 weeks of training, 32 new officers graduated from the mercer police academy today. the ceremony was held at the mercer county community college in west windsor. it is the 17th class of officers to graduate from the academy. congratulations. >> well, dozens of people took time to get a very special haircut today in bucks county. this was the tenth annual kathy's cuts an event that benefits wigs for kids. women men teens and children had at least 12-inches of haircut and donated to children who have lost their hair because of medical issues. >> it's so hard for kids when they have a physical change in their appearance. you know, how terrible it is for them to go to school and to go out in public so it just helps them live their lives and be themselves. >> each person who donated got a goody bag and some won prizes from their participating salon.

southbound side jams across the walt whitman bridge down through this point southbound near 544. there was a crash. you can see now it's pushed onto the grass on the shoulder so the lanes are opened but a little extra heavy as you travel southbound toward the a.c. expressway n burlington county we're getting word of a serious accident along new york avenue close to 206 and in cinnaminson we still have the motel fire along 130 southbound near highland avenue. just 14 miles per hour there. i would avoid it. go local through palmyra along broad street, river road or else stay over on 41 or even the new jersey turnpike as some other alternates. coming out of new jersey into delaware or vice versa, it is very slow this afternoon at the delaware memorial bridge. also had a crash in new castle along 13. luckily that's gone now but warning for the weekend. starting a the 8:00 tonight a small chunk of 495 system going to close for the entire weekend between 95 and route

>> all right, meteorologist adam joseph joining us now. cloudy out there and you say those clouds are going to stick around. >> for much of the weekend. starting to see some brightening to the sky here at this hour across much of the area but it's temporary because those clouds rolling back in with showers over the weekend as we take a look right now at the action cam which is down in center city earlier today and a lot of gray upstairs and not the best of days for those workers on that newcomb cast tower there as you can see as that is about halfway up. overall kind of a damp end to the week. not finding any solid area of rain. there are a couple showers just to the east and south of philadelphia near lakehurst as well as lakewood down route 70, medford lakes a few showers there west of chatsworth but overall that is about it at this hour and again philadelphia to the west we are starting to see a little bit of brightening to that sky. not going to do much to jump those temperatures up. 59 right now philadelphia, 57

trenton, upper 50's for the lehigh valley. trying to hit 70 in millville, 65 in dover but just over the border in maryland and points south, it is in the 80's at this hour. satellite and radar, there is a frontal boundary that's draped to our south and then work its way towards saint louis and there's new low pressure developing along that boundary and that's what's going to pivot back to the north here for saturday. so, overnight a lot of clouds, a spotty shower around, 47 in allentown, 54 for philadelphia, 53 dover, lower 50's along the coastline of new jersey and as we set up here saturday what's going to happen is that front's still to the south, low pressure developing west in parts of tennessee and kentucky, 62 here with clouds dominating tomorrow on showers developing once again in the afternoon and evening hours. then on sunday, originally this low was supposed to be farther to the north giving us a washout. however, high pressure is going to try to wedge into the north and hold this system a

little bit to the south but it will still sneak some showers in especially southern areas first thing sunday morning with a brighter finish sunday afternoon. here's a snapshot of when to see the most significant rain this weekend would be starting saturday around 1 o'clock. philadelphia down to the south, this is the wettest period. that continues saturday evening at 6 o'clock as it tries to get up towards that pennsylvania turnpike. if you're in the lehigh valley, you may escape most of the rain this weekend. then as we get into sunday morning, still waves of rain developing especially in southern areas, brighter to the north and west and by sunday afternoon, we'll trial to break some of that cloud cover apart, even in southern areas. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, cloudy with those showers developing tomorrow south to north at 62. early showers especially south of the city, sunday morning, peaks of sun in the afternoon, a similar temperature, too, saturday and then an area of low pressure just to our south is going to kind of meander to the north here, locks in the clouds, monday, tuesday with

"action news" was there as he was arraigned in the past hour. friday night rick is off, brian taff joins us. the big story on "action news" is several charges that have been filed against 67-year-old arthur phillips. >> "action news" reporter katherine scott live outside the district justice court in chesterbrook. katherine you've got the exclusive details today. >> reporter: that's right, brian and monica. today this afternoon 67-year-old arthur phillips of wayne was charged. he was a teacher's aide at conestoga high school. his preliminary arraignment just wrapped up here in wayne

within the last half hour. this is video of him outside the district court only "action news" was there. neither he nor his lawyer had any comment. phillips is a production aide in the television truck scale studio at conestoga high school an employee since 2006. there were numerous charges against him including aggravated indecent assault. investigators say phillips had that a sexual relationship with a student who was under 16 years old when this all started. earlier this week conestoga high school officials went to police and turned over e-mails dating back to january. apparently phillips and the victim would send text and e-mails back and forth. the victim told police he befriended her at the beginning of the school year taking her to places in his car at least once police say he sent her a picture of his private. the victim told segments they had sex on more than 10 occasions between january and april of this year and in her interview said she would tell phillips no she didn't want to do it on other occasions he told detectives he would grope
