nearly 20-hour standoff with the gunman who shot and killed a delaware state trooper has come to a dead lid end. deadly end. the gunman was killed after coming out of the house and engaging police. the standoff came after corporal stephen ballard was shot and killed in bear, delaware. chopper 6 hd was over the scene this morning. the house was heavily damaged during the police operation. all the windows and doors and parts of the walls are blown out. jeanette reyes joins us with details how the standoff came to an end. jennette. >> reporter: sarah it has been a morning of organized chaos is the best way to put it. some of the residents saying this is something out of a

movie. for hours throughout the night and this morning, they heard gun shots and explosions and choppers overhead and loud bangs. it ended in the fatal shooting of the suspect. there's a lot of going on 3 hours after the suspect was shot and killed. in the distance you can see the crime scene tape up now. there are dozens of officials here some in camouflaged clothing and heavily armed, as well. they are taking in evidence that was left behind in the 20-hour barricade. we are in the neighborhood in the brick mills development. police in tactical units with armored vehicles that descend upon this normally quiet neighborhood and surrounded the home with the suspect was holed up since 2:00 p.m. yesterday. residents said it was too dangerous to come or go. separated families for several

hours. one woman was in the home and heard nearly two dozen explosions go off and the sound of bull horn as police tried to convince the suspect to come out of his home. take a listen to what the residents heard at the time. take a listen to what they had to say. >> hotel on dover, on my way back, an officer who i know called and said it's over and that i'll be going to my house. >> we were so shook all night. it was scary, gunshots all night through the whole night. we didn't get any sleep. >> i am hearing a whole lot of the explosions. i just told karen i think since the explosions started we're up to 20. >> unfortunately he lost his life at the same time i feel

very sorry for the officer who lost his lifeless. >> it seemed -- lost his life. it seemed that the officers tried to get the man to surrender. it seemed he was getting more and more aggressive. there was another shootout at 4:00 a.m. where he was shooting at police officers. a lot of residents telling me after all this is said and done, they are happy no one else was injured. as far as residents, the suspect said they don't know much about the family here. there will be a brerches -- press conference this afternoon we'll learn more about what happened this morning. jennifer joyce channel 6 "action news." >> law enforcement officials lined the road as corporal stephen ballard's body was moved from the delaware state medical examiner's office in wilmington heading to the funeral home. chopper 6 hd was over the scene here, as well, as the pro stion

come on in, after at long last, the fun and festivities have begun on the parkway. the fun on the draft way stakes to the stage tonight. always preparations were in their final stages on the parkway, nfl commissioner roger goodell appeared in center city along with ron jaworski, they hosted a breakfast fors for season ticketholders. crews are bustling around the parkway to make sure all the final details are set in the largest outdoor events ever produced by the nfl. more than 200,000 people are expect overred the next three days, president and ceo of the philadelphia convention and visitor's bureau said the economic impact is significant. >> we're talking about folks n the hotels and restaurants,

thank you. now that the draft experience is opened, the countdown is on to the actual draft tonight we have a countdown clock in the corner of the screen. there is less than 8 hours before round one begins in the theater behind me. the draft itself is an involved process with each team scrambling for the best players. tonight 32 up encoming athletes will earn their tickets to the pros. when the draft gets underway, one team will always be on the clock for the first round each team gets ten minutes to submit their selection. they can go over, but that clears the way for the next team to pick before them. the order is determined by worst to less. the eagles pick 14th. they traded the 1st pick away to cleveland for the opportunity to

pick up carson wentz. they regrained a first round pick when they send sam bradford to the vikings. once the name is written down on the card at selection square it's the official pick and the draft clock resets. if someone is chosen, the nfl has their new jersey and hat right away. we've prospect at the draft has their last name written in every teen font so it can be screened on a jersey immediately. it is handle to the commissioner by a season ticketholder hand picked by the team. as the rounds go on, each team gets less time. by the end of the draft on saturday, 253 new players will be picked for the nfl. so, needless to say the nfl has come a long way, it used to be a

back room affair now it's a three day rating bonanza. will they pick offense or go defense? ducis rogers, and jeff skeverski, and jamie episcopo will be breaking it down at 3:00 p.m. members of the martin luther king high school football team will help present the eagles first draft pick tonight. the action cam was in jearmt yesterday for their -- germantown yesterday for their spring workout. ten guys will be on the stage tomorrow night and the entire team will be there to watch. >> so many have as to play nfl football. it's a great opportunity, great exposure for the program.
