flynn's most recent security background check. >> why would you rerun a background check on some one who is the head of the department of the defense intelligence agency. that had and did maintain a high level security clearance. that's it. >> the obama administration also pushed flynn out over concerns about his performance. and it is unclear whether the trump team did any additional vetting. before appointing flynn to the powerful post of national security adviser. they were pointing back to the obama administration, saying, that michael flynn any last clearance was granted, under the obama administration. seeming to suggest that, the vetting didn't fall on them for his clearance. >> it fell on them. here is a man that is going to be, privy to the top secrets of our country. and advising the president. >> even after he fired flynn, trump still defended him. >> michael flynn, general flynn is a wonderful man. i think he has been treated, very, very unfairly by the media. >> asked about the general, the president didn't bite.

>> any regrets about michael flynn. >> thank you very much. >> now flynn's lawyer is still insisting that he did brief the pentagon before and after that 2015 trip to moscow. but the pentagon says they have looked through their records and they have found no evidence that flynn asked for approval, or disclosed that he received thousand of dollars. mary bruce, abc news, capitol hill. >> china has reportedly given north core car an ultimatum. in an interview with fox news, secretary of state rex tillerson says china told north core car to stop conducting nuclear tests or face chinese sanctions. tillerson said the u.s. is asking a lot of the chinese, but, says their help is critical to address the nuclear threat. he also stressed the u.s. is not seeking a regime change. and would be open to direct talks if north korea is willing to give up nuclear weapons. >> president trump says he too, prefers diplomacy to resolve, that is the north korean crisis but warns what he calls a major, major conflict is possible.

the president adds his staff is working up a new list of potential economic sanctions but says he is not taking the military option off the table. the comments came in a new interview with reuters during that wide ranging interview the president reflected on his first 100 days saying it is more work than running his company. and he says he thought it would be easier. >> thought it would be easier. toughest job in the world. the president is expect to drum up support for his new tax plan at a rally in pennsylvania tomorrow which of course -- marks his 100th day in office. the plan would cut the number of personal tax barack else. slash the corporate tax rate. and eliminate nearly all deductions. but the administration is offering few details on what it would mean for the federal deficit. now during that take your child to workday event at the white house, the president said, it was all about economic growth. >> anything about paying for the tax plan? any more specifics. >> when you see the growth, the growth is going to pay for it.
