hartman joins us live from ocean city now with all of the festivities underway, hi there , trish. report report hi there walter. yes, drizzling here in ocean city, starting to let up, we found shelter under this awning not the best afternoon for the beach but as most people we have spoke with said even if the weather isn't perfect, you are still down the shore. as the rain drops started to fall, in ocean city, many people pack up their blankets and towels, thinking of a plan b for the rest of their afternoon. >> i literally got here, just showed up, and only five minutes. >> reporter: others snuggled up and stayed enjoying every last second of their time on the sand. you are still out here. >> we're diehard. we come down here early in the morning until late at night. >> we're on the beach. this is our happy place. rain or drizzle we're just happy to be here away from home and the routine. >> reporter: back on the bay over at overcast skies drives people away from the beach and right to rental places like wet and wild wave runners this

morning it was beautiful but we had cloud rolling in, and this afternoon is unsettled, little bit of drizzle. we have been busy all day. >> reporter: conditions were fair enough to set sail on the screamer, a brand new speed boat promising a wild ride, and, maybe some dolphin sight ings. >> it has been propelled by jet pumps, big wave runner with 13-inch jet pumps and ate laos the boat to spin and 180- degree turn. >> yeah. >> how fast. >> really fast. >> reporter: on the boardwalk these day trippers snuck in a ice cream cone in the rain before making the drive home. >> we just thought we would come down today because tomorrow does not sound too good but right now it is not that nice, either. >> reporter: are you leaving after this. >> we are leaving after this, yes, we are. >> reporter: other flocked to seventh street arcade as they waited out the rain. the owner say it is a welcomed site. >> as soon as it gets win or rain they come up from the boardwalk, lot of times they get something to eat where they come in the arcade. so it is all good.

>> reporter: now business owners we talked to with a few more weeks until school lets out a strong memorial day weekend helps them carry through until summer. officially beginning, everybody keeping their fingers crossed for more fun. reporting live from ocean city , trish hartman for channel six "action news". >> always hit or miss memorial day weekend. lets look at what kind of conditions those beach goers can expect over the next few days. meteorologist melissa magee has our first check of the accu weather forecast, melissa >> it looks like we are still tracking those showers south of atlantic city through south jersey and areas in delaware. here's storm tracker six live double scan radar and we will go tighter in street level with double scan. you can see showers, light rain, there in sea isle city, cape may we are dealing with the moisture as well. same there are for fortescoup, and same thing for smyrna, middletown but moving off to the north and west across inland locations and it is dry along i-95 corridor and north

and west. something to keep in mind tonight at the shore we have a coastal flood advisory that goes up at 8:00 p.m. through 2:00 a.m. sunday. minor flooding is a concern at time of high tide foresee side heights down to cape may and bauers beach and rehoboth beach there in delaware. so, the ocean high tide anywhere between 9:30 and 10:30 the bays air i little later in the night and those waves could be be anywhere from two to 3 feet higher then normal. right now, in philadelphia we're coming in at 71. we are dealing with the showers. cooler in millville 62. sixty-three in cape may. dover right now 74. seventy-three for north and west, in reading. as we go throughout the rest of the evening we're looking good underneath partly cloudy sky here in the city, 7:00 p.m. that temperature at 69. upper 60's at 8:00. sixty-seven at 9:00. we have a partly cloudy sky. 10:00 o'clock numbers in the middle to lower 60's. as we go throughout the rest of the holiday weekend on sunday at the shore tomorrow it is cloudy, breezy, it is a better day.

temperature of 65. seventy-seven in the city. up in the poconos tomorrow high coming in at 66. we have got more details with the full, exclusive accu weather forecast, walter. >> thanks, melissa. of course, memorial day is primarily a time to honor those who sacrificed their lives, in service to our country. so camden county freeholder board held annual memorial day ceremony at harley's veteran cemetery. it is the final resting place for hundreds of veterans, including more than 300, who served in the civil war. and philadelphia's new museum the museum of american revolution, paid tribute to the men and women who lost their lives during that turbulent time. visitors received a history lesson right outside the museum where experts told stories that ordinary americans who for the british forces on the way to american independence. ♪ >> and the community of somers ville in bucks county, honored veterans as well during this memorial day parade. people lined the parade route

to check out local marching band and service members, this parade has become an annual tradition right there in that part of the county. a teenager from overbrook is hailed a here he tonight after rescuing his one year-old nephew from the fire. that fire broke out inside a home on flanders road this morning with three adults and five children inside. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live at children's hospital with the details, bob >> walter, make no doubt about it tonight, 17 year-old rudy edward is, in fact, a hero and here at children's hospital with a battle wound to prove it. it was a fire that pretty much destroyed this family home in the 1,000 block of flanders road, not much left of salvage inside, neighbors say the flames were huge. >> coming from 63rd and malvern, we saw the black smoke up in the air. >> reporter: all eight inside, three adults, five little children are alive, much of that because of the heroic actions of the brave 17 year-old rudy edward.

he should feel good. it is a nation he would be cracking smiles tonight, he is lying in the bed at children's hospital after he saved his one year-old nephew trapped inside. >> i was than the thinking nothing, when they just said bryce still in the house, i just, i just, got up and i went in. >> reporter: overbrook high school student tells us that after he and his uncle william were able to get everyone out safely, a quick head count would reveal the one year-old was still inside. neighbors watched in disbelief as he ran back in the burning home. >> i just started praying. i was very scared. >> reporter: edward said conditions inside almost unbearable. >> i could not see anything, i could not breathe, i just went in, and... . >> reporter: how did you find him. >> did he a little cough. >> reporter: the nephew ran outside and handed his mom the baby and then collapsed. >> thank god. thank god. the way he came out, he pretty much passed out. rudy saved his family. he saved the family. >> reporter: edward says i does not remember much after

making it out. >> i just felt dizzy so i just laid down and then i slept for a little bit. i woke up, i just know that i had a mask on. >> reporter: his injuries smoke inhalation, bumps, bruises and you are not surprised he ran back into that house. >> no, no not surprised. >> reporter: he said wow do it all again to save his family. >> i just want to thank god everybody got out of the house safely. >> reporter: that young man should be very proud of himself, but what is not okay is family's home. tonight, they do need some help, we have a phone number to our article on our web site , call that, if you would like to make them a donation. reporting live from children's hospital, bob brooks, channel six "action news". walter? >> what a story bob, thank you for that report. police in delaware are trying to find a person who shot up a home this morning in new castle with five teenagers sleeping inside. it happened on the unit block of thorn lane, the house was

riddled with bullets but no one was hurt. when police arrived and entered the house they discovered all of the teenagers had slept right through the onslaught. a 71 year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery late last night in west philadelphia. it happened on the 5500 block of wyalosing street. investigators say the victim tried to revisit robbery and ended up getting shot in the hand and leg. he is now hospitalized in stable condition, so far, no arrests have been made. we have some break news out of newark, new jersey, terminal a at newark liberty airport was evacuated just a short moment ago. port authority officials say a pressure cooker was found inside that terminal. pressure cookers are known to make explosive devices but no indication that this device posts any threats. no injuries have been reported but terminal remains evacuated as they continue to follow this story and bring you any updates as that information, becomes available. international travelers are dealing with major problems today, all flights from london's heathrow and the

georgiawick airports are cancelled after a major computer failure among those stranded students musicians from the curtis institute of music in philadelphia "action news" reporter annie mccormack is live at the airport with details, hi there, annie. >> reporter: hi there walter. thinks all because of a glitch that british airways is having with their it department, somewhere, in their computer system. in fact, flights here at philadelphia international airport, for british air waves have been cancelled and british airways officials are saying people in london airport to not arrive until they have this glitched figured out. british airways cancelled all flights from heathrow and the georgiawick airport after global it failure leaves tens of thousands stranded. >> we have been given absolutely zero information from anybody here at the airport. none of the staff know what is going or. >> reporter: british airways took to you tube to address the issue. >> our it department is working entirely to fix the problem. root causes power supply issue

and we have no evidence of sign's tack. >> reporter: among those stranded musician from his philadelphia's curtis institute of music including musician teacher david, speaking from a london hotel. >> all musicians and composer you get used to this, but today was a trial tongs day was a lot, but people are making the best of it i think. >> reporter: curtis symphony orchestra tourist taking musicians to nine cities in 18 days. they were due to a pair in australia tomorrow and now have plans to charter a plane there. >> the show must go on. we have to get to the show and work with the school there and play for the people there. report report and they say thinks a lesson for those young musicians who are now learning what it is like to travel world. this isn't the only hurdle that the curtis institute has haddon their trip n fact this week during a bbc interview it was interrupted because of a bomb scare but luckily everybody was okay.

sad news here, greg almond has passed away. he was founding members of the almond brothers band known for hits such as sweet melissa and midnight rider but also for jam sessions during almond brothers concerts. almond, once married to cher, struggled with his health issues over the past few years but continues to tour. no cause of death has been announced just yet. greg almond was only 69 years old. world news saturday will have much more on the death of greg almond along with the rest of the day's headlines coming up at 6:30 right here

after "action news". police are hoping that security camera video will help them track down driver involved in the deadly hit and run in bristol township. it happened just before midnight at route 13 abe beaver street. investigators say the victim 50 year-old donna anderson, was crossing the intersection when a car with a missing headlight hit her and kept going. that vehicle is describe as a dark colored nissan quest, a minivan last seeing turning on bath road. buena vista is celebrating its 150th birthday. throughout the occasion town dedicated a carved tree depicting the town's wonderful history. celebration includes food trucks, vendors and classic car show as well.

morning. jim bunning spent 17 seasons in the big league, six with the phillies and had a hall of fame career as a pitcher. bunning died yesterday at 85. bunning defining moment of his career came on fathers day in 1964, he tossed a seventh perfect game in major league baseball history. he won 224 games and inducted in the hall of fame in 1996. now after his playing days bunning went into politics in his native kentucky and eventually became a united states senator. phillies chairman david montgomery issued this statement, quote jim was an incredible competitor and determined to maximize his ability and make most out of everything he did in life. he clearly succeeded in doing so. the phillies begin today's game, with a red with the moment of honor of budge and hang his number 14 jersey in the dug out. phillies down two in the first inning but they come right back. caesar hernandez lead off the first with the home run off a royal. deficit cut to one. next inning michael saunders, second deck, solo shot, his

we have an update to our story we brought you a short time ago. officials have given all clear at newark liberty international airport after discovery of a pressure cooker , forced evacuation of terminal a. some delays are now being reported but once again, the all clear has been given, the situation is returning to normal. all right. time for a check of the accu weather forecast with meteorologist melissa magee. we have seen worse in terms of the memorial day weekend but it is not too nice out there we have got cloud, and showers in south jersey, a tail of two different stories.

>> all about the shore at memorial day. >> yes. storm tracker six live double scan radar you can see that it is dry in philadelphia. i-95 corridor, areas north and west but if you are traveling down the shore you may want to rethink those plans until these showers move on out down across south jersey and into, delaware. we will go tighter on street level, storm tracker six, the shower and the light rain, and fortescoup, same thing foresee aisle city, pockets of heavy rain moving in for, cape may and, smyrna we have the moisture overhead, we will start to clear out later tonight. we will show you outside back here in philadelphia, sky six live in hd looking at commodore barry bridge on the start of our holiday weekend. you can see we had sun to get the day started. sun giving way to a few more cloud for the rest of the evening. because of that cloud cover it was cooler, then average, normal for us this time of the year is 77. we came in at 736789 the record 95. so back in 1991. certainly cooler at the coast.

we are dealing with that rain cooled air. sixty-three in cape may. sixty-two for dover and millville. seventy-one in the city. allentown and reading coming in at 73. lancaster in at 71. here's satellite and action radar we are tracking this disturbance moving off to the south and east. we have light rain in south jersey. also into delaware. severe weather and thunderstorm watch popping up for areas in virginia, and then also, north carolina, that will stay away from our region for the rest of tonight so for the next 12 hours, early showers, mainly to the south of the city, otherwise, returning partly cloudy, dropping down to 54 in the suburbs and 58 degrees in philadelphia for the overnight low. here's the setup for us, for sunday, cloud and some sun, we have got high pressure to the north, mostly dry day, a high temperature in at 77. so if you want to travel down to the shore tomorrow, you should be okay, underneath mostly cloudy skies and we are tracking this area of low pressure from the west, and it will work eastward. overnight sunday and into the

day on monday. so by monday lots of cloud and numerous showers, especially early in the day, otherwise a high temperature coming in at 78 degrees. here's future tracker six as we get into 8:00 p.m. sunday night. we have showers popping up but majority of the day, it looks to be dry tomorrow, and then overnight, sunday into monday, for the actual holiday we have a couple light showers popping up across there in south jersey and also, to the north and west. so still for the holiday, on monday, it looks like temperatures will be in the 60 's for the start of the day and then as day wears on numbers will be matching in the upper 70's in ale. here's the exclusive accu weather seven day forecast. cloud and sun tomorrow. high up to 77. some sunshine around on monday , and those thunderstorms, too otherwise, a high of 78. it is warm, on tuesday, high up to 80 but showers are still possible, and on wednesday, sunny, breezy, that is a good looking day. a high up to 8o nice start to the first day of june, on thursday. >> oh, yes.
