memorial. john. >> reporter: hi, rick. actually two ceremonies today. one here at the korean war memorial and one at the vietnam veterans memorial which is just less than a half a block away. it was a somber occasion in both cases. that is what memorial day is all about, remember the war war deadly. >> ♪ >> reporter: under an overcast at times rainy sky, people gathered to remember. >> it's not just a holiday to have a day off. it's about remembering the men and women that are on these walls here across the street. >> philadelphia we must remember edison high school who's 64 killed in action in vietnam are the most of any public hospital in the nation. >> reporter: back to back services to honor philadelphia's war dead at the korean and vietnam memorials. >> that's why i come down here to remember those fallen vets that didn't make it.

philadelphia. that warm front did not make the progress to the north and east so it's 84 in washington, d.c. 86 in richmond, virginia. you have a pair of seven's for pittsburgh aren't and also charleston west virginia. we had a 63. the last time we had temperatures in the 60's because back in 2004. typically we should be closer to about 78 this time of year and four of the last 12 years we had temperatures in the 90's for memorial day. we were not that hot today. so, as you're stepping out on the town the evening planner showing you it's cloudy at 7:00 p.m., 63. the lower 60's at 8:00 p.m. 9 o'clock mostly cloudy and the clouds hang on tough right through the nighttime hours o so, it's cloudy again once again tomorrow, brighter as we get into the middle half of our work week. tracking another threat of showers and storms. those details coming up with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. >> we'll check back in later thank you. stay on top of the weather

weather folks were still packing the beaches and boardwalks all weekend long despite the weather. let's get an update now from "action news" reporter bob brooks who is in ocean city tonight. >> reporter: if you thought the some what gloomy weather would stop memorial day fun, well, then you're wrong. the boardwalk at wildwood was packed. rides, games, the traditional boardwalk food. it was all happening. >> eating candy. >> reporter: that's fine. what about you. >> fidget spinners. >> reporter: fidget spencers. and you? >> everything. >> reporter: the only downer the beaches were a little empty. that's what likely made the boardwalk so many packed today. you guys having fun. >> we are. >> reporter: up in ocean steel mort of the same. the beaches were empty for the most part but people were still having a great time. just ask the brooks family. >> what have we done? >> we have rided some rides and i beat my daddy at a game. >> yeah, yeah, you don't need to tell the world. to a close. >> there is still traffic despite the holiday today,. >> the yes. where we have not been flying is on the garden state parkway and all the routes home from the shore points rick and sharrie. this is a little bit different each year and it depends in large part on the weather but with the gray skies today down the shore people began an early jump on the ride home. starting around 9 o'clock this morning we're seeing delays on roads like the garden state parkway. live at the cape may toll plaza on the northbound side. a little bit farther to the north beyond sea isle city up to the work zone at the a.c. expressway you have some single digit speeds like 8 miles per hour so there is still a backlog coming northbound on the parkway even at this hour. in camden county we had a vehicle fire here on 295, southbound side by 168 the black horse pike. that's all that's left. it's off to the side. there's no delay. but we are seeing delays on the ben franklin bridge coming into center city from the mid span into eighth and vine. delay thinning a little bit bullet but it has been heavy

as people come back to the city. a an overturned trash truck on the blue route 476 southbound to get on the schuylkill eastbound. traffic has been squeezing by at times on the shoulder but it looks like right now this ramp is temporarily blocked also mass transit on abnormal schedules today in most cases it's a sunday schedule. we'll check it again in the next half hourly. >> president donald trump spent memorial day paying tribute to u.s. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. he laid a wreath on the tomb of the unknown so. the playing of taps echoed as the president placed his hand over his heart and military officers saluted. today he delivered his first memorial day remarks as president. >> we can never replace them. we can never repay them. but we can always remember. >> reporter: following his

remarks, the president paid a visit to the cemetery's section 60 where hundreds of service members killed in iraq and afghanistan are buried. he shared specific stories of sacrifice saying it was not for fame, money or glory but for country. rick. >> alicia, thank you. president trump's son-in-law is now in the spotlight over the ongoing investigation into russia. it's alleged that jared kushner tried to set up a secret communications channel with russia. this allegedly after intelligence agencies concluded that russia tried to meddle in the u.s. election. president trump's only response was a statement to a newspaper saying he has total confidence in his son-in-law. and that he's doing a great job for the country. >> well, philadelphia police tonight continue to investigate the deadly shooting of a woman and her brother. the pair were both found shot in the head on the 1900 block of clearfield street in the city's port richmond section yesterday morning. neighbors described the pom identified as 49-year-old

florence miss tina pompey as a beloved member that of community. she lived in the home with her 54-year-old brother. we'll have the latest on this investigation in a live report at 5 o'clock. well, a wawa philadelphia's wissinoming section was targeted by a robber armed with a gun overnight. this happened around midnight on the 6000 block of harbison avenue. police say the clerk was closing the store when the suspect walked in and announced a holdup. police are looking to see if there's surveillance video that could help catch this bandit. >> police in mercer county have arrested a man for allegedly committing a lewd act inside of a public library there. this is 26-year-old mitchell richtman. police say two young girls saw him committing the act between bookshelves at the hamilton township library on municipal drive. the girls alerted library staff who contacted police. richtman was arrested and charged with criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. >> still ahead on "action news" at 4:00 it's been

the volvo xc90. . >> ♪ >> dramatic video captured by the portuguese air force when a boat full of migrants caught fire. there were 34 people on board the small boat when the flames erupted. they all had to get into the water to escape. this happened off the coast of spain. no word on any injuries. golf great tiger woods has been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. woods was booked into jail early this morning in the south florida town of jupiter

in palm beach county. he was released just before 11:00 a.m. on his own recognizance. >> back here a 24 hour diner that has stood strong for almost four decades in center city is closing its doors for good. little pete's at 17th and chancellor streets opened back in 1978. brothers pete and john opened it together. the restaurant is being turned into a hotel. they say they'll miss seeing their loyal customers who have been like family after all these years. >> i've been here 39 years since day one since it opened. i got -- i know a lot of customers coming here for a lot of years you know what i mean. it's a very sad daily. >> tomorrow john and his brother are holding a free block party from 11:00 a.m. to 3 o'clock for one last little pete's celebration in center city. the good news is the second little pete's location in fairmount remains opened.

>> the ban on large electronics in airplane cabins may be expanding. the homeland security secretary john kelly said in an interview this weekend that he may implement such a ban on all international flights entering or leaving the united states. right now electronic devices larger than a cell phone are barred from airplane cabins on some u.s. bound flights originating from 10 middle east and northern african airports. kelly said the expansion if it happens will come when the timely is right. the university of delaware's baseball team is on a roll and now you can call them conference champions. they won their first ever colonial athletic association baseball title and now they're heading to the ncaa tournament for the first time since 2001. but as you can see, there was also a.m. second celebration on tap for some of the players. graduation. >> oh, my. >> yes. >> and for the first time in school history, delaware's champions of the caa. >> saturday night the

university of delaware baseball team clinched that title for the very first time. >> we're just excited. we worked really hard for this so just to have this be a reality is just awesome. >> that victory came in north carolina and eight of the players are graduating seniors. they missed their official commencement ceremony at the university because they were playing. >> they did miss their graduation but there isn't anyplace they would rather have been. >> but before the big game they walked in a mock graduation at the hotel complete with caps and gowns. [cheers and applause] >> it was a very special day for all the seniors. we got to graduate early in the morning. our whole team was there. we get to celebrate again. it's awesome. >> today back in delaware the blue hens found out who they'll face off against in the next level of competition. >> they are matched up against number four -- [cheers and applause]

earlier today. it's lifting on off to our north and east but we still have a mostly cloudy sky in the wake of that of activity and you notice off to the west still clouds that we're tracking even as we go throughout the rest of tonight. so, over the next 12 hours patchy fog, areas of drizzle, otherwise lots of clouds around. we drop down to 54 in allentown, 57 in lancaster, 55 degrees in reading. we'll bottom out at 58 in the city for the overnight low at the boardwalk in cape may dropping down to 57 degrees. fast forward into tuesday. still stuck under the clouds. 59 degrees as we get the day started at 7:00 a.m. by 11:00 a.m., in at 66 the upper 60's to 70 as we go throughout the afternoon hours, but as we get into tomorrow afternoon, we'll be tracking a frontal boundary making some progress. so, future tracker six showing you 7:30 tomorrow morning still mostly cloudy, perhaps a spotty shower there in delaware. as we go throughout the rest of the afternoon into the early evening hours, this model showing some showers from the poconos down to lancaster with the heavier burst of rain to our northwest suburbs.

that's the better bet of find something activity. but as that front comes on through it will wipe out the cloud cover as we get into the middle half of our work week and with more clouds you have more in the way of sun and temperatures will be responding. 81 in philadelphia, 78 in reading, 70 up in the poconos, 78 degrees in lakehurst, cooler in wildwood with a temperature of 65. nice improvement as we get into wednesday. the four day forecast showing you lots of clouds around tomorrow, perhaps a late day peek of sun. otherwise a high temperature in at 70 and a shower or a thunderstorm is likely mainly north and west of philadelphia as we get into tomorrow night t on wednesday, it's a beautiful day. it's warmer, up to 81 for a high with a late day shower or a thunderstorm. so that front comes on through as we get into wednesday, nice start to the first day of june on thursday, high temperature in at 77 with sunshine and clouds sharing the sky. and on friday it's warm with increasing clouds and a high temperature of just 83. coming up going to take a closer look at the form of forecast.

"action news" continues our memorial day coverage from ridley township where district attorney jack whelan led a ceremony to remember the fallen delaware len three wreaths laid during a ceremony in hatfield montgomery county this morning. this memorial day service was organized by the hatfield american legion post number 933. the ceremony concluded with a 21 gun salute and a lone bugler. >> ♪ and down at the shore, the 7-mile island american legion parade made its way through stone harbor. it ended at the women's civic club on nine sixth street at the beach. local veterans gathered there for this morning's ceremony.

>> residents in springfield delaware county gathered for a parade today on this memorial day. the springfield high school marching band led the parade that stepped off at veterans memorial park. local fire departments were also there to take part. the holiday parade wrapped up at the springfield township building with a special ceremony. in wilmington the rain moved this memorial day service indoors. every year at riverview cemetery they honor those who died in war. well, today they gathered inside the resurrection center fellowship hall next door to the cemetery to offer up their

appreciation and thanks to those who died in combat. >> well, it is all about love tonight on 6abc. prime time kicks off with an all new episode of the bachelorette. tonight the dates take on a sports theme as the bachelors have to show off their athletic prowess for rachel in hopes of catching her eye and earning another rose. rachel is the first african-american woman to star on the reality series. she spoke with "action news" about her feelings on making history on television. >> it was very scary to me at first because it's scary to be a first you're setting a standard. people are judging you but at the same time i'm so humbled and honored to be able to do this represent myself in a positive way to america as a black woman and at the same time to be able to find love, you know, all wrapped up in one, i mean, it's such a great opportunity to do it. >> after two hours of the bachelorette tonight watch the premiere of abc's new series still star crossed. that's at 10 o'clock followed by "action news" at 11:00.

muchanic begins or memorial day coverage with a look at a few of events in burlington county. >> reporter: music marching bands they have all here in burlington county as locals turn out despite the cloudy skies for the annual memorial day parade. >> ♪ >> enjoying myself at good day to be out. >> reporter: folks lined the route at the edgewater park beverly parade wound its way through the streets delighting the crowds and even the pooches who were watching. >> she loves seeing the fire trucks and hearing the noises and the lights and she loves the candy. >> reporter: the parade is a slice of americana buffed by young and old and families were there to watch it all. >> brings back a lot of memories. in our that i'm older and i feel the joy in my heart. >> ♪ >> reporter: the parade always ends near the beverly national cemetery where the rows and rows of graves are a stark reminder of what this day is all about. over 49,000 veterans and their families are buried here. >> her brother and we make it

a point to come visit and make sure he's remembered. >> reporter: 91-year-old navy veteran thomas fitzgerald and his family came to visit relatives and a stranger. new jersey native john joseph gormley was killed in world war ii. >> he paid the ultimate price and i think that's important that we remember. >> reporter: three generations of the mcdaniel family gather every memorial day at the graves of otho and lillian. their dad was a marine during world war two. >> the fact that we have a day set aside just to remember them is it's just, you know -- it's just a nice day and it's something that we really ought to do. >> i kind of feel sad that like they lost their lives for us but i mean, it's also good that they served our country and now we're kind of celebrating them. >> reporter: and so on this memorial day, in addition to all the parades and the picnics, we remember in this solemn place the sacrifice of so many others who went before us. in beverly, i'm nora muchanic

channel6 "action news". >> people paused today to remember some of the bucks county natives who gave their lives to preserve our freedoms >> ♪ >> the action cam was outside of saint james church in bristol borough for a memorial day service held by the robert w. bracken american legion post 3782. attendees prayed for the heroes we lost, those still serving and also they prayed for peace. american legion post 547 held its annual memorial day tribute. the community event featured a parade right through the streets of ardmore. several drill units and bands took part. families also enjoyed food, giveaways, face painting and a bounce house there. it's a tradition that spans more than 50 years. >> ♪ and dozens came out to philadelphia's bridesburg

section this morning to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. the somber wreath laying ceremony at the most holy redeemer cemetery was followed by the more festive annual bridesburg memorial parade. it's considered to be the city's oldest. >> in chester county the annual parade rolled through the streets of downingtown with pomp and circumstance. >> ♪ that's the sounds of downingtown high school east and west as they entertain the crowds gathered on pennsylvania avenue this morning. there were also hot rod cars, fire trucks and plenty of military personnel taking part in this year's parade. well, this parade marched through the streets of tinicum township this morning. the v.f.w. 4845 and the the ladies auxiliary sponsored this parade which included families and fire trucks. >> it's a day where you just find so many people outside for a great reason, to honor the fallen but we always hope that the weather would be nice

this time of year. >> a little bit more cooperative t not the case today. it was pretty cloudy. not a whole lot of sunshine today and we'll show you what's going on as we look at the picture outside sky6 live in hd we are down the shore in cape may and, hey, it looks like a few breaks in those clouds right now. but probably not a lot of folks on the water right now with an easterly wind so the temperature in cape may 64, the dewpoint in at 59, an easterly wind at 10 miles per hour and that ocean temperature chilly 62. we've got a coastal flood advisory. minor flooding is a concern at the time of high tide. ocean high tide about 11:30 p.m. right until the midnight hour. this stays up until 4:00 a.m. from seaside heights down to cape may westward into rehoboth beach in delaware we've got high tide. it takes a little longer for bays there. in center city as we look at sky6 live in hd, only 63 degrees right now, the dewpoint at 57. so a lot of moisture in the area. probably areas of visibility as well. east, southeasterly wind at temperature miles per hour and

of his six-year-old son ernie. the animals arrived at lehigh valley zoo last week and zoo ceo melissa borlin says at first everything seemed okay. >> when he came into the barn, murphy actually took the side of his face and just rubbed it against ernie's neck. >> reporter: but zoo officials say murphy and ernie turned aggressive toward each other over the weekend. while it's not unusual behavior for giraffes their handlers decided to separate them overnight into sunday as a precaution. when zoo officials returned sunday morning, ernie was standing with his head bowed unusually low and they knew something was wrong. the zoo's medical staff converged onto the scene. >> as they searched before, taking his vitals and whatnot, ernie fell over and he passed away on his own. that was probably the -- that was probably the most --, i never want to see or experience anything like that again. >> reporter: at fires it was believed ernie may have died from a possible neck injury sustained while tussling with

murphy but the cause of death cannot be confirmed until a.m. personning necropsy is performed. they hope to open their giraffe exhibit sometime next month. but she says that only happen when everyone feels comfortable with the idea. >> we know that we're not the only ones mourning the loss of ernie and so we're going to do this hopefully sooner than we expected to do it but again, we really need to make sure that murphy is ready for this. >> reporter: the giraffes were delivered from the kansas city zoo after a $3.8 million investment by the lehigh valley zoo to expand its african exhibit. they hope to bring in another giraffe to join murphy but at this point in idea remains on hold. reporting from the lehigh valley zoo, walter perez channel6 "action news." >> and still ahead on "action news," if you're having memorial day deal regrets, stay tuned. we can help you determine if you paid too much for something and how you can get some of that money back. >> plus, does she have a hobby or a hoarding problem?

>> ♪s. >> president trump is condemning the deadly stabbing of two good samaritans on a portland oregon train. he called it an unacceptable violent on attack to two men and standing up to hate and intolerance. the attacks happened friday night on the first dave ramadhan. the victims were killed while trying to come to the dade aid of two young muslim women. the suspect was allegedly screaming anti-muslim slurs at the women. one of the men killed served in the military for 23 years.

temperature just a chilly 62. the cool left memorial day we've seen since 2004. it's been about 13 years since numbers were this cool. 62 in allentown, 53 in the poconos at the coast in cape may 63, dover 65. here's satellite6 along with action radar. we had some rain around earlier today. it's lifting off to the north and east but we're locked in with the cloud cover as we go throughout the rest of tonight and more unsettled weather out across the great lakes that works its way eastward as we get into tuesday. so for tonight it's mostly cloudy, patchy fog in areas of drizzle especially with an easterly wind at five to 10 miles per hour. we'll drop down tom 54 and the suburbs and 58 degrees in philadelphia for the overnight low. the setup for us on our tuesday, those clouds hang on tough. that warm front that was supposed to lift northward today, still down to our south and because of that, we're trapped with that easterly moisture coming off the atlantic so tomorrow another cool day a high of 70 an evening shower or thunderstorm likely mainly north and west

64 degrees. the last time a memorial day we were stuck in the 60's was back in 2004 and this is 14 degrees below our normal high and memorial day we can have some fast swings in temperatures. four of the last 12 memorial days temperatures were in the 90's. we were actually complaining it was too hot. there is much warmer air not too far away from us. central pennsylvania, washington, d.c., temperatures are in the 80's, richmond 86. there's a front just to the south and that has that warm air. farther up to the north, though, new york city quite a bit cooler than we are, only 57 degrees. the reason why? we've got this cool air, it's an easterly flow. satellite and radar showing after a few morning showers, we're dry but we have that persistent easterly flow off the ocean pulling in the moisture in the form of clouds, pulling in that cool air and that will be with us through the evening hours. so, the evening planner, patchy fog, a little bit of drizzle, plenty of clouds, tempat
