she canceled her tour two weeks ago because of severe back pain. it's because of breast cancer that -- to her sake rum. turning to health check one local family is sharing their story hoping to raise awareness about strokes. their message is that it can happen to anyone at any age. ali gorman is here now with their story. >> reporter: it's such an important message. strokes just don't happen to adults. they can strike at any age even before birth. a south jersey family is sharing their story. 11-year-old evan boxly plays piano nor fun now but it used to be for therapy to help him regain hand music because of strokes. three years ago evan revealed bad headaches but tests did not

show problems. >> they treated him as a migraine sufferer, and she was about to take her son to the doctor for what seemed like a stomach virus and things got worse. >> evan stopped talking and walking and just wailing. >> doctors determine that evan had had a stroke. that blood vessels in the brain were blocked by bits breaking off from a tiny tumor in their heart. >> i never would have thought that children had a stroke. after open heart surgery to remove the tumor evan was on the road to recovery. >> i had to learn how to walk again, and balance. and talk -- >> there were hiccups however, including mini strokes probably caused by microscopic blood clots, blood thirns keep the risks under control now but limit some activities.
