we'll start with breaking news in afghanistan. a deadly explosion going off in what is considered a highly secure part of kabul. it is lined, of course, with foreign embassies. >> afghan officials say a suicide car bomb killed more than 60 people and injured rough think 300. that blast went off in the height of the morning rush in what's considered the city's safest area. >> you can see some of the early images we're getting quite a powerful blast that blew out the windows and destroyed more than 50 vehicles. that death toll expected to rise. the nationalities of the victims are not yet known, of course, we'll continue to stay on top of this breaking news. that explosion in the heart of kabul this morning. and also breaking overnight a midair scare for jetblue passengers flying from new york to san francisco. the plane forced to divert to grand rapids, michigan, after a passenger's laptop battery caught fire. >> i was stunned. i knew something was going to happen because, you know, lithium batteries catching on fire when you're up at 38,000 feet, you can't help but think

that, you know, we've got to do something. >> a frightening scene there. after a three-hour delay the plane resumed its flight to san francisco where it touched down just moments ago. also breaking overnight a police standoff is over after shutting down parts of the orlando airport for nearly three hours. a 26-year-old ex-marine waved a gun at police officers in the car rental area and police say he pointed the weapon at his own head and then asked officers to shoot him. luckily neither the police nor the man fired any shots. in fact, it turns out the gun he was holding was fake. he was trying to commit suicide by cop. he will now undergo a mental evaluation. developing kathy griffin apologizing amid the growing outrage over that anti-trump photo that she posted to social media. >> the comedian admits she crossed a line and made a mistake but her troubles could be far from over. now that the secret service is investigating. >> hey, everybody, it's me, kathy griffin. >> reporter: overnight she issued an apology for this

controversial photo shoot of the comedian staring coldly at the camera while holding a fake decapitated head of president trump and posted it to social media and the backlash was swift, donald trump jr. tweeted disgusting but not surprising. imagine a conservative did this to obama at potus. chelsea clinton said this is vial a vile and wrong. it sparked outrage across the political spectrum. the outrage even reached the secret service. overnight it confirmed it's investigating say each alleged or perceived threat has to be investigated thoroughly which taxes secret service manpower and resources that could be utilized elsewhere. griffin has been a strong opponent of the president but appears that wasn't always the case. here she is embracing him three years ago when she was a contestant on "celebrity apprentice." hours after griffin put out a video apologizing. >> i sincerely apologize. i'm a comic. i crossed the line.

this morning, trump advisers under the congressional microscope. >> it's going really well. >> reporter: ex-national security adviser michael flynn will give up some documents in the senate's expanding investigation into russia's election meddling. a source tells abc news a narrow subpoena made it easier for flynn to cooperate without waiving his fifth amendment rights. the congressional probe also now focused on president trump's confidant and personal attorney michael cohen. cohen told abc news he declined an invite to testify saying the request was poorly phrased, overly broad and not capable of being answered. >> i would say to mr. cohen that we will issue a subpoena and he will be compelled to come and speak. >> reporter: the senate also wants to question former white house and campaign aide boris epshteyn. >> we love trump. >> reporter: but the president's son-in-law and adviser jared kushner is under increased scrutiny. investigators want to know why he met secretly in december with officials of the new york branch of a russian bank previously

known as a u.s. base for criminals and spies. the white house asked if and when he knew he was trying to set up back channels with russia before taking office. >> i think that asupers a lot. i would say mr. kushner's attorney says he has volunteered to share with congress what he knows about these meetings. >> reporter: the white house did not deny he tried to set up secret communications only pointing to top administration officials who say back channels are an appropriate part of dip problem si. >> back to covfefe, the internet is having fun with it. breaking news from syria. an isis target was hit. russia says it fired four missiles from two warships in the eastern mediterranean sea and russian defense officials say those missiles hit heavy weapons and isis fighters near the ancient city of palmyra. the russians say they alerted the u.s. about those strikes. now let's take a look at today's weather.

a cold front is moving through the northeast today bringing a threat of showers and even thunderstorms to western new york and pennsylvania this morning. later today, the front will slide east and bring showers and storms to the northeast around dinnertime. some storms could include lightning and heavy rain. severe storms also pounded san antonio yesterday with nearly 2 1/2 inches of rain falling in 2 1/2 hours. there were at least five high water rescues but three adult brothers were swept away and still have not been found. ariana grande is getting some high caliber help with her benefit concert for the victims of the manchester terror attack. >> justin bieber, coldplay and katy perry are some of the names on a long list of people who will join her on stage. they also include take that, miley cyrus and pharrell williams. >> the concert will take place sunday night in manchester and will raise money for those, of
