many top allies it, the leaders of germany, the uk, france and canada all calling the president telling him they are disappointed by this decision. outside the white house, and around the world reaction to president trump's decision punishing. overnight paris city hall lit up in green. as well as new york city's one world trade center. a show of support for the landmark deal. >> the united states will withdraw from the paris climate accord. >> reporter: after that bombshell announcement in the rose garden. >> i was elected to represent the citizens of pittsburgh, not paris. >> reporter: world leaders like germany's angela merkel and france's emmanuel macron pouncing. >> make our planet great again. >> reporter: the business world outraged too. leaders like facebook's mark

zuckerberg, tesla's elon musk and disney's bob iger are criticizing the move. hollywood icons like leonardo dicaprio tweeting today our planet suffered. president obama calling out an absence of american leadership saying that the u.s. should be at the front of the pack. but president trump is making no apologies. he says the decision came down to american jobs. and fulfilling that campaign promise. >> we're going to cancel the paris climate agreement. >> reporter: some republican lawmakers applauding the move even before the president's rose garden announcement. >> one of the things i think president trump has been really good on is being concerned about american jobs and not signing international agreements that would put us at an economic disadvantage. >> reporter: even the president's own inner circle was divided. right there in the front row, the man who lobbied for the exit, his chief strategist, steve bannon. the president who called climate change a hoax during the campaign did little to clarify

his position. >> as someone who cares deeply about the environment, which i do, i cannot in good conscience support a deal that punishes the united states which is what it does. >> reporter: but he did say he would be willing to negotiate the deal all over again. >> we will see if we can make a deal that's fair. >> reporter: but global leaders are already rejecting that call, george. they say the paris climate accord is simply not up for renegotiation. >> yeah, they're not ready to do that at all. on another front we know james comey, the former fbi director will testify next thursday. the big question on the table is the white house going to invoke executive privilege? >> reporter: next thursday all eyes will be on james comey, lawmakers are eager to learn about those private conversations he had with the president, especially they want to know if the president did in fact encourage comey to drop the investigation into his fired national security adviser, michael flynn. now, the president could invoke his executive privilege to try and block comey from testifying. but that would be an explosive

political move and one the democrats would certainly try to override. >> mary, thanks very much. george, now to the russia investigation and president trump's son-in-law and top adviser jared kushner caught in the crosshairs. our chief investigative correspondent brian ross is here with us and, brian, your team tracked down the russian banker who met with kushner. >> reporter: that's right, good morning. we have a rare films of a man who could be a key figure in the fbi russia investigation, the banker who secretly met with the president's son-in-law, jared kushner and is now a focus. [ speaking a foreign language ] >> reporter: we found him back in russia at a conference in st. petersburg, but sergei gorkov trained as a spy refused to answer any questions about why he met with kushner or what they talked about. [ speaking a foreign language ] did you talk about american sanctions, he was asked. we have absolutely nothing to add, he said. we have a lot of meetings. the meeting under investigation took place after the election as gorkov ran the branch office in

new york under u.s. sanctions and came at a time that the kushner family was racing to raise money for its troubled real estate business. >> did it involve the sanctions on the bank? did it involve any business potentially? >> reporter: investigators say they want to know if kushner went to the bank for help with this troubled investment, a skyscraper on fifth avenue, the 666 building, which analysts tell abc news is 30% empty and cannot generate enough rental income to cover its huge debt. >> they borrowed 1.3 billion. that loan has to be paid back in two years. >> reporter: the white house says the meeting between kushner and gorkov was about u.s./russ relations and arranged by the russian ambassador. the bank says, no, it was a private business discussion. >> this has conflict of interest written all over it. i think it's a huge problem for kushner to be in a situation where his white house portfolio essentially allows him to have

liaison with all sorts of corporate and financial institutions. >> reporter: the russian banker, gorkov could answer many of the questions the fbi and congress are asking but as of now, he's trying hard to stay out of the spotlight. giving us what in russian is called -- [ speaking a foreign language ] the stone wall. he continues to work in the white house and his lawyers said he'll be glad to testify before congress and answer any questions. george. >> okay, brian, thanks very much. let's talk about it with kellyanne conway. welcome back. >> thank you, george. >> so why was jared kushner meeting with the russian banker? >> jared said he'll be willing to share any information he has and made that clear and looks forward to doing that. >> there seems to be a discrepancy. the white house saying he was talking about russian relations, yes, russian relation, did they discuss sanction, the russians are saying, no, this is private business. >> we're going to trust that. i mean, i would refer you to the comments of former acting deputy cia director mike morell. he served under president obama and said so far all he hears are

media reports about what intelligence officials say and that it's been his experience that the media often get those wrong. that they're relying upon a chain of reporting that is -- >> i'm just asking you what he talked about. >> well, jared, he's been willing to cooperate and he's willing to go and say what he knows, but i think there's so much speculation out there and usually gone through a negative lens. let's give him a chance to say what he know. >> that's what i was trying to ask you. you're not prepared to say what he was talking about right now. >> no. >> on the issue of james comey will the president invoke executive privilege or does he want former director comey to testify before congress. >> we'll watch with the rest of the world. the last time he testified unoath the fbi had to scurry to correct it. he was off by hundreds of thousands in his count, his sworn testimony count of the number of information -- the number of e-mails huma abedin sent to her husband anthony weiner. >> so the president will not invoke executive privilege. >> the president will make that

decision, but, look, we want to refer everybody to what deputy attorney general rod rosenstein said about james comey, because rosenstein, he has direct authority over the fbi director and he came on the job after being confirmed 94-6 in the u.s. senate after serving as president obama's u.s. attorney in maryland and coming on the job he went and looked at the investigation about the way mr. comey handled hillary clinton's e-mail investigation and he concluded that it really hurt the morale and the integrity of the department. go and read the letter. everyone can see it and talked about how mr. comey tried to usurp the justice department, and he didn't like the fact he held a press conference -- >> the president decided to fire him before he got that memo from rosenstein. >> he said he was thinking about that for awhile and that is true. saw that testimony a few wednesdays ago, was very unimpressed. you know how the president feels about director comey and director comey in his good-bye

letter clearly said he has long believed a president has the right to fire an fbi director for any reason or for no reason so that is the president's right. in addition and independent of that his deputy attorney general whose job it is to oversee the fbi director had concluded much the same thing. he said that the morale and the integrity of the department had been compromised and one of the only thing that unites people of diverse viewpoints is their dissatisfaction with the way mr. comey handled the end of the clinton e-mail investigation. >> at that time the president also suggested he had tapes of his conversations with mr. comey. does he have those tapes? is he going to release themmy. >> i won't comment on that. when director comey goes to testify that will be a clarifying moment. i would repeat in his most recent sworn testimony had to be corrected almost immediately. he was off by hundreds of thousands in his projected calculation but it's more important to have somebody testify under oath, frankly, than to have his friends and his former colleagues out there speaking to the media, not under oath.

>> we will all be watching on thursday. the president says he wants to renegotiate this paris climate accord. we saw the leaders of germany, france, italy, u.n. officials say it cannot be renegotiated. >> the president said many things yesterday. most fundamentally the president said as he always has, george, that his first responsibility is to americans, their interest, their jobs and economic growth here. why should we frontload so much of the burden in this agreement to the detriment of the american worker all the projections say we would have a decline in some of the key sectors where men and women rely on for their livelyhood, cement, paper, natural gas, coal. why are we doing that and yet letting india and china get off scot-free? when this was originally negotiated -- >> they're making commitments to reduce their emissions as well. >> it's pretty unimpressive and would go back and look because i have at many of the outcry by the environmentalists when it was originally negotiated. so many complained that this actually would not have a

statistically significant impact on carbon emission reduction and yet china and india were not being forced or persuaded to conform their behavior. this is about protecting the american worker and protecting american jobs. >> final question -- ? renegotiating a better deal. >> does he still believe global warming is a hoax. >> he believes in clean water, clean air and made cheer what he doesn't believe which is that the u.s. government should stay in an agreement that gives us too much of the financial burden, too much risk to these industries where the coal miners, people who work in cement and paper, people who looked in the eye in place after place and city after city while he was running -- >> does he believe global warping is a hoax. >> he believes in clean air, clean water, a clean environment and believes we have to negotiate better deals for this country and that there is a balance between environmental protection and economic -- >> i'll ask one more time. does he believe it is a hoax. >> you should ask him that and i hope you have a chance. >> i do too. we'll have more sunday on "this

week." amy. >> turning now to that deadly attack at a popular resort in the philippines, chaos unfolding as a gunman stormed that scene firing shots and setting fire to casino tables, abc's alex perez has the latest details. >> reporter: it was midnight local time when this man armed with a machine gun stormed the packed casino at this manila resort. >> oh, my god, you guys, i can hear gunshots. >> reporter: unleashing a hail of gunfire, shooting at gambling machines and setting tables on fire. patrons fearing a terrorist attack stampeding for the exits. dozens injured in the chaos and confusion. >> the next i saw he started a huge fire. then we just started running. >> the woman who filmed in video from a neighboring apartment building. >> oh, right behind resorts world. >> reporter: watching as the resort went up in flames. >> i could see people running and i saw people trying to jump out of the window on the second

floor. >> reporter: authorities now say it was not a terrorist attack but a casino heist gone wrong. the suspect stealing some $2.3 million worth of casino chips, seven long hours after the ordeal began authorities discovering the suspect took his own life. and this morning the grim death toll, at least 37 killed. not from gunfire but from smoke inhalation. many of the victims found in the bathroom where they hid to escape the chaos. >> we are still investigating and trying to ascertain why somebody would be so senseless. >> reporter: and investigators are now carefully reviewing surveillance footage as they work to figure out what the exact motive may have been here. amy. >> a tragedy all around, alex, thanks so much. michael. >> we'll switch gears now to the warriors' big win, steph curry and golden state taking down lebron james and the cleveland cavaliers in game one of the nba

officials are calling a brutal and unprovoked attack on an uber driver. 16-year-old eliza wasni appearing in court after prosecutors say she attacked her uber driver with a knife and machete early tuesday for no apparent reason at all. fatally wounding 34-year-old driver grant nelson. >> only two minutes or so after picking up the defendant, she begins to hack at him and stab him from the back of the seats. >> reporter: prosecutors say wasni called for an uber pickup at this walmart just outside chicago around 3:15 tuesday morning after allegedly stealing a knife and machete. surveillance video showing her leaving the store without paying for the items. after allegingly turning the weapons on her driver, he managed to escape running to a nearby apartment building for help. >> it was just help me, god help me please. i'm going to die. at the top of his lungs. >> reporter: officials say wasni tried to flee and nelson's hyundai sonata but the high

school student crashed the car and ran off on foot before police say they found her hiding behind a nearby building wearing only leggings and her bra, still holding the machete and knife. police saying they had to tase her to drop the weapons. nelson was rushed to the hospital but hours later died from his injuries. now his family is remembering him as a gentle man hoping for justice. >> this is a time of hart heartbreak and tremendous loss. >> reporter: in a statement uber says we are heartbroken by one of our partners grant nelson. our beepest sympathies and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. baffling crime. >> no motive? >> we reached out to her attorney and did not get a response but prosecutors say this appears to be random. did not appear to know the vic and learning a lot about what she did. this was her third uber ride of the morning, 16-year-old out at 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning and

"people" magazine says the story

is fair and truthful and wish her well. as for the urgency, amy, garner says she needed to squash this before her mom's garden club starts lighting up her phone. got to get ahead of that. >> diane, thank you so much. joining us is the managing partner of 1010 media and you used to be the editor at "people" magazine. you know it well and know this business well. i mean, as someone who is just looking at that magazine i 100% would think she sat down and posed for that picture and sat down with "people" magazine. what's your take on the back and forth? >> it's a very interesting curious story, jennifer garner has been written about hundreds and hundreds of types in stories that she did not participate in. your piece right there which chronicled her life with ben affleck she didn't participate in that. this is not unknown to her so the idea she would react against it is a strange thing. celebrities don't have to authorize anything. people write about celebrities, presidents, you know, sports figures without their authorization. what i think is going on here is not about the "people" magazine story because she takes no issue

with what's said in the story, i have a feeling what i suspect is going on is that she and ben have made a pact in the middle of a divorce and said they will not talk about the kids or air their laundry and she was concerned he would have the perception she did participate in the story and that she was getting a leg up in the negotiations and was somehow trying to maneuver what was going on between them in the divorce and she wanted to make it clear too him that she had nothing to do with this. this is not a message to the public but a message to ben affleck and his camp she did not participate. >> but also to "people" magazine. she probably was upset because it looked like she participated in it willingly. if tyou look at the photo it looked like she posed for something. isn't that misleading with that picture like that and that cover the way it is? >> no, we've done hundreds and hundreds of stories like this. you get the best picture you can. "people" magazine is trying to convey the idea of intimacy as any magazine is whether you put donald trump on a cover or tiger woods on a cover, you're trying to convey the idea when you come

into the magazine you will find out something you didn't know before. the story is completely clear they did not speak to her and she didn't participate in it. this has been tried and true at "people" magazine for many, many years so if the magazine is conveying the idea of intimacy then they're guilty but there is nothing on that cover that suggests she participated. i once did a cover with jessica simpson many years ago where i put a quote on the cover she didn't say to us but to someone else and gave the impression she had participated and she had not. >> because there aren't quotes on there -- >> she doesn't say jennifer garner told us. it says jennifer garner, life after heartbreak and it's a beautiful picture of jennifer garner. let's remember also that jennifer garner's career and success is based on the admiring coverage of people like "people" magazine which she doesn't take issue with it. her criticism is pretty lighthearted but it's a symbiotic relationship. >> well, everyone got that say. >> yes, they did. >> larry, thanks for joining us. michael. coming up on our big board, the 12-year-old spelling bee

details. >> reporter: want to get away? your travel thoughts to tournament to a romantic get away but probably not here. big box stores are great for laundry detergent, paper towels, and, yes, also great for vacations? at costco? scouring the internet, cost costco & bjs offer travel services for paying members. >> the reason these big box stores can offer amazing travel deals is because they have so many members, companies want to sell to them. >> reporter: first costco offers hotel deals on hyatt and best western rooms only so at the hyatt in san francisco, costco was $27 cheaper per night. that's 10% less than the four travel aggregator sites we checked and 10% cheaper then booking directly with the hotel. bjs is a little different. they listed the same rate as the travel site but threw in a bjs gift card. that amounted to about a 5% price reduction off the travel sites. >> if you check the fine print you might find that the packages
