gunfire in broad daylight. it happened while a worker was trying to repossess someone's car. it is friday afternoon. i'm brian taff. >> and i'm monica malpass in for sharrie williams. the big news is that deadly turn of events. bob brooks with details. bob. >> reporter: brian and monica it's such a tragedy that someone would lose their lives over a reason like this. behind me you can see the scene still very active. it happened in the parking lot of what's called the santana food market. police say almost 20 shots were fired. what turned into a gun fight. more than 20's evidence markers on the ground shell indicatessings scattered across the street, car windows are shot out and man is dead. police say the scene at 18th and dickinson is the result of a shootout between the repo man and a man that didn't want this toyota taken away. >> he just looked down and saw smoke coming up people screaming. >> reporter: it was just

after 10:30 this morning. investigators say once the repo man started moving the van a woman got out of it and started an argument. we're told she threatened to call her boyfriend. >> tow truck driver said you aren't doing anything. >> reporter: that boyfriend did come to the scene. he also had a gun. >> it's sad that it happened. >> reporter: the police say the repo man was first pistol whipped by woman's boyfriend so he turned to walk away. when he did he heard glass shattering behind him. that's when the repo man pulled out his pistol and there was a gun fight. the woman's boyfriend would be shot in the chest and arm and died at the hospital. a dog was caught in the crossfire and died as well. this point breeze neighborhood can't believe this escalated to the point someone is dead over a reason like this. >> it's a sad world out here. people crazy. >> pay your bills and you won't have to worry about nobody getting killed or any of that. >> reporter: another live look here. that is the minivan that was about to be towed. the victim the man who died 32

years old. at this point the repo man is cooperating with the investigation. for now reporting live in point breeze bob brooks channel6 "action news." >> the driver of this car slammed into that downed tree and wires just a short time ago in gloucester county. chopper6 was overhead as those wires were burning on park hill station road near kings highway and west deptford. the driver managed to get out of that vehicle and was getting treatment at the scene. we do not yet know the extent of the injuries. >> confrontation between a philadelphia police officer and a armed man ended with the man being shot and killed. it happened before 7 o'clock in hunting park. firms many officials say an officer stopped to question man who where was driving erratically on a dirt bike. when the officer patted down the man he felt a weapon in his waist band so the officer pulse his own gun. investigators say the suspect pulled his. the officer opened fire

shooting twice as the man ran away. >> it's no question that from the witness' standpoint the officer had every right to shoot. the question is whether the other round should have been fired and i don't know. >> the officer involved in on administrative leave. no word on the suspect's identity. >> president trump is responding today to yesterday's blockbuster testimony from the former director of the fbi. on twitter and in person he blasted james comey calling his testimony untruthful yet refusing to answer if he has any tapes that might prove it. janai norman has the latest from washington. >> reporter: president trump picking and choosing which part of james comey's testimony he says are true and which are false. >> no collusion. no obstruction. he's a leaker. james comey confirmed a lot of what i said and some of the things that he said just weren't true. >> as i used to say to juries when i talked about a jury, you can't cherry pick it.

prosecution rested its case after five days of testimony in the sexual assault case against bill cosby. vernon odom is live at the courthouse in norristown with the latest developments. vern. >> reporter:. >> reporter: alicia those are five full days of intense testimony and presentation here at the courthouse in norristown. again, the prosecution rested just moments ago. that was their plan. their contention that the show biz legend is guilty of aggravated sexual assault of andrea constand. the defense will that present its case starting on monday. >> day five in the bill cosby trial the day the prosecution planned to rest its case. on the witness stand again a cheltenham police detective reading from a decade old cosby deposition given in the civil lawsuit filed by his central accuser here andrea constand back in 05. under questioning cosby admitted he bought seven prescriptions for quaaludes in the 70's and on occasion gave them to women to ease his way to having sex with them.

constand says cosby plied her with three pills and wine. late this afternoon in a sworn statement cosby said he worried about constand and her mother possibly trying to embarrass or extort him so he offered to pay for her graduate school tuition. he said he did not want his wife to find out about his sexual encounters with andrea constand. cosby's pr man spoke briefly with reporters at midday. >> mrs. cosby has disappointed mr. cosby for the entire time they've been together for 53 years. it showed when we had jury selection in pittsburgh how she was so afraid because of her love for him to stay in the hotel that he flew back and forth on his plane from philadelphia to pittsburgh. >> reporter: brian the defense will open its case monday morning the first thing this weekend the lawyers

first. major general says this team was hand picked because of their specialized training in the communications field. missing military men and women are being remembered tonight in this touching memorial in levittown bucks county. volunteers placed hundreds of flags in a large diamond shape against the black fields here at falls township park. it's to honor mia's and pow's from vietnam iraq and more. >> seems like every year we get more volunteers to help us >> nice gesture. there are other events there this weekend as well. >> well, that major reconstruction project that will connect society hill to penn's landing in philadelphia officially has the funding to move forward. pennsylvania governor tom wolf joined mayor jim kenney to announce that the state and city are working together to pay for the project. it calls for an 11-acre green park deck between walnut and chestnut. and it would be built over the top of interstate 95. the estimated cost of that

"action news" reporter gray hall went to the colonial school district to find out what happened. he's live at the high school now. gray any answers? >> reporter: well, monica, we have heard back from the school district. we have not heard back from the university of delaware which hosted this graduation and according to the district, locked the doors and prevented those parents from attending the ceremony because too many people showed up. >> sorry isn't enough because i waited so long for my mom to see me graduate high school but, i mean, it's not acceptable at all and i don't really know what else to say. >> reporter: she is heartbroken. she says her william penn high school graduation was ruined after her mom was prevented from seeing the ceremony thursday night. >> it could have been anybody else's mom out there but it was mine and i don't think that was fair to me. viewers shared video showing frustrated crowds of family members being locked out of

that ceremony. her mom says she was told the university of delaware bob carpenter center was filled to capacity. even though she had a ticket she was not allowed in. >> you wait 12 long years for this one long day. you never get this day back. >> reporter: she says she was shattered. she lives in georgia and allowed her daughter to stay in delaware for several months to finish out the school yearly all they have now are pictures of them and tears outside of the graduation and a small clip a relative captured with a cell phone from inside the ceremony. >> i don't think sorry is enough. >> reporter: the district superintendent says it was out of their control. he says the school gave out 4800 tickets and the university could seat up to 5600. he blames the university of delaware. >> it's probably the biggest high school they would do. they took a visual perspective and then made that decision based on that. >> reporter: the superintendent says he completely understands why parents are upset and admits

there is nothing that can be done to reverse what happens and he's working to make sure there is not a repeat. >> moving to are ward we'll make sure this doesn't happen again because it's not fair to our community its not fair to our students and it's a milestone that you can't get back. >> reporter: all right so back out live obviously this was a huge mistake. you heard from the superintendent. we are still waiting to hear back from the university of delaware. when we get a statement from them we'll bring it right to you. live into new castle, gray hall channel6 "action news." brian. >> gray, thank you. police in philadelphia's west oak lane section are looking for the gunman who shot two people in broad daylight today. it happened near the intersection of broad and haines street just before 1:00 this afternoon. the victims were rushed to the hospital but police have yet to release any information on their condition. we're also waiting to hear if they have any suspects or a motive. local leaders gathered together this morning to talk about what they're calling an explosion of violence in north central philadelphia. in the last 45 days they say more than 30 people have been shot and or killed in the

neighborhood. state representative curtis thomas says it has reached a crisis proportion. >> it's not just the violence, it's the lawlessness associated with the violence where folk do not believe that anything is going to happen and that they could do whatever they want to do, whenever and wherever. >> now along with local clergy representative thomas called on community leaders to take responsibility and demand accountability. >> fire investigators trying to figure out what caused a smoky blaze in port richmond. you can see firefighters battling what's left of the blaze here on the roof of a row home. at one point the flames were so intense spoke could be seen at penn's landing 3 miles away. we are still waiting to hear if anyone was hurt in that fire. sailor in the u.s. navy was honored today in

wilmington. delaware center tom carper hosted this pinning ceremony today for the first enlisted sailor to complete his submarine warfare qualification. he'll serve on the u.s.s. delaware which is currently being constructed in virginia. senator carper spearhead the effort to get the ship named after delaware and of course congratulations to him. >> well, we're in the 80's. it's official now. feels like summer again. cecily tynan joining us. we got to break out the sprinkler on the lawn today so the kids could run through it. totally summer. >> one of those days you just want to be outside. i think a lot of people would be happy if we just stayed in the 80's for awhile but that's not together to happen. we'll be heading into the 90's. take a look on sky6 at philadelphia international airport where we've got blue skies, a few fair weather cumulus bubbling up in the heat of the day and a temperature of 82 degrees. not where we should be for this time of the year. notice the dewpoint its 49 degrees. that's a very dry air mass. dewpoints, though, will be rising through the weekend as will the temperatures.

>> ♪♪ >> trial of that massachusetts woman accused of encouraging her boyfriend to kill himself. prosecutors say 20-year-old michelle carter sent dozens of text messages to then 18-year-old conrad roy in 2014 pressuring him to go through with his suicide.

the forensic expert revealed in court today that roy searched for suicide methods online. roy was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in his truck. carter is charged with involuntary manslaughter and she faces 20 years in prison if convicted. >> two hot air balloons got too close to each other outside of chicago yesterday and the result was nothing short of terrifying. cell phone video shows a gust of wind here blowing one balloon into the other as the group launched. the pilots did manage to get untangled but it was too late for one of the balloons that hit the ground. the operator was that thrown from the basket trapped hanging upside down by his feet. the balloon then took off again after he was dumped on the ground. amazingly the aircraft came down on its own o short time later. the pilot was rushed to the hospital but he's expected to be okay. >> a subway worker did not holder back when a man walked in and tried to rob the restaurant and her reaction is going viral.

of the year is 81 so what's 1 degree between friends? allentown and reading currently 81. wilmington 82. and cape may pretty nice getting that westerly wind, that land breeze, not a sea breeze, 78 and that ocean temperature, that will feel good this weekend 63 degrees. satellite and radar showing we're in between systems right now. we had low pressure off the coast that tossed clouds our way yesterday. that's moved on. there's another system a weak pressure -- kind of upper level low that will be pulling through early tomorrow morning but between the two, we have a beautiful friday night. future tracker showing tomorrow morning though, that system will be cutting up to the north. so that means lots of clouds for most of us. northern lehigh valley aren't the poconos could get some early morning showers perhaps even a rumble of thunder 58 degrees in the poconos big race week in the poconos but this system keeps moving along, high pressure gets established and that means by the afternoon plenty of sunshine temperatures up into the 80's and then on sunday, it's when we have this

building heat. this is typical. we've got this high pressure heat pump sitting off the east coast. we've got clockwise winds around that. that pumps winds out of the southwest. increasingly hot and humid sunday monday and tuesday and actually the heat index on tuesday likely will make it feel like 100. and we're chasing records. sunday forecasting a high of 94 degrees just 1 degree shy of the record high set back in 1986. monday forecasting a high of 97, tying that record high set two years ago and tuesday looks like this likely will be the peek of the heat, 96 degrees. we hit that, we break the record high of 95 set back in 1956. so a great place to be this weekend down at the shore. it will be beautiful tomorrow, mixture of sun and clouds, a high of 78 degrees. on sunday, plenty of sunshine and very nice with a high of 81. race week in the poconos again tomorrow morning early could have a thundershower. otherwise it's partly sunny 78 degrees. looks dry for the big race on

what's being described as a violent run in with police. and while the family says the deceased male was a good guy who didn't have a gun police are telling a much different story. >> this male did not actually discharge his weapon last night but he did pull it and was engaged in a violent encounter. >> reporter: according to police the male was riding a motor bickerer's of recklessly. an officer transporting another individual stopped him and in the search felt he was carrying a gun and a scuffle ensued. >> it appears that he probably fired the first two times immediately when that guy pulls the gun out. he's probably struck at least twice when that happens. >> reporter: but then police say the man ran away and that's when another shot was caught on camera. >> there's no question that from the witness' standpoint the officer had every right to shoot but the question is is whether the other round should have been fired and i don't know.
