deliberations this evening. today, the defense painted cosby's relationship with his accuser, andrea constand, as consensual. the prosecution countered, no, it was a crime. bill cosby arrived at the courthouse this morning with his wife of 53 years, camille, by his side for the first time in six days of testimony. she sat across the aisle from the woman at the center of this criminal case, andrea constand. the defense called just one witness, a detective, who testified for only a few minutes. the defense attorney brendan campbell, who is not associated with the cosby case, explained the probable strategy. >> the fear there in putting on testimony is that it opens the door for a potentially the commonwealth to call other witnesses such as other potential victims in the past. i think they would jump on the opportunity to do that. >> reporter: cosby declined to take the stand in his own defense. his attorney, brian mcmonagle argued that his 2004 sexual endowner was consensual.

and while cosby had been unfaithful to his wife, he did not commit a crime. >> mr. cosby is very confident. he's confident in his legal team. brian mcmonagle, he was like a surgeon today. >> reporter: last week, constand described that cosby gave her three blue pills and then sexual assaulted her as she laid paralyzed and half conscious in his cheltenham home in 2004. brian mcmonagle pointed out inconsistencies in her story. >> multiple times when you're drugged, why come back and see a man? come on, people. gao the to see this. >> reporter: of course, the defense always wants to put everyone else on trial. the accusers of mr. cosby, everybody on trial except their own client. >> reporter: of note, camille cosby did not return to the courtroom this afternoon to hear the prosecution's closing in

case. we just hearned sheriff deputies are ordering dinner for the jurors. that would seem to indicate they may be moving forward and start deliberating. it could be a long night ahead here at the new year's court canhouse. if convicted of all the charges, the three charges against him, the 79-year-old comedian will be looking at spending the rest of his life in prison. live in norristown, i'm sarah bloomquist, "channel 6 action news." >> all right, sarah. thank you. wiltering heat has sotled in over the area in what about lee the season's second heat wave. looking live at the fountain at city hall. tomorrow, the heat and humidity will crank up another notch and because of that all the school districts of philadelphia school also let out at noon tomorrow. and all after-school activities including sports will be canceled as well. let's get the latest now on the heat. meteorologist cecily tynan and accuweather. any relief in sight, cec? >> reporter: yes, there is. after tomorrow, we have one more

day of this intense heat and humidity. yesterday, the heat wave started, 94. today we matched that. that's 12 degrees above normal. only one degree shy of our record high, but we did have some record highs already. atlantic city, a new record high of 94. allentown, tieing a record high of 92. trenton and wilmington not quite records but up into the 90s. and it remains warm and muggy all night long. at 7:00, temperatures still in the 90s, drop down to 89 degrees by 8:00. by 11:00, still 82 degrees, which is our normal high for this time of the year. overnight low dropping to 74. and tomorrow, we crank up the heat even more, crank up the humidity. so a heat advisory is in effect from noon in 7:00. some areas, the heat index, the way it feels will be climbing above 100 and that is getting into the dangerous territory. back door front moves through tomorrow. that will bring us relief. also a chance of thunderstorms. we'll talk more about that in the seven-day forecast.

rick? >> all right, cec. thank you. many people headed to the shore looking for a sea breeze today. for those kids cooling off with ice cream in ocean city, the start of summer vacation couldn't have come at later time. the boardwalks are crowded with people out for a stroll. but there were even more on beach, which is almost wall to wall with umbrellas. 18 members of a now banned penn state pra tent appeared in court today. a judge was determine whg they should go to trial in the death of this young man, 19-year-old tim piazza. piazza died in february after a pledge event involving heavy drinking. "action news" reporter is live where the hearing is still going on at this power. chad? >> reporter: yeah, monica. piazza's final hours were captured on video, and for much of today's hearing, we watch though final hours. they were disturbing, as you clearly see a young man in trouble, yet no one gets a medical attention for nearly 12 hours. the lead detective on the case

testified timothy piazza looked like a corpse when several beta theta pi fraternity members carried his lifeless body from a staircase and placed hill on a couch. they talked and debated for an hour over whether to call 911 and get help. tom klein represents the dead 19-year-old's parents who lefd left the courtroom once the video began to play. >> alcohol poisoning within minutes and then who is in extremis while his so-called brothers-to-be are throwing shoes at him, his own shoes at him, throwing beer on him. >> reporter: the district attorney stacy park smith cut down nearly 12 hours of video from the fraternity to just three hours when piazza and other pledges chugged booze through what's called the gauntlet. detective testified piazza had a blood alcohol content four times the legal limit. in the video, he repeatedly falls on the floor, smashes his head. the coroner ruled he died from massive head injuries.

he also suffered a shattered spleen. yet no one called 911. philadelphia base defense attorney william brannon is representing joseph enz, also from philadelphia. he's charged with one count of reckless endangerment for smacking an injured piazza with an open hand on the stomach. the detective testified piazza's stomach was three-quarters full of blood. >> one of the most difficult things i've watched in 30 years. there's no getting around the fact that this is an unspeakable horrific tragedy. my job is to defend joey, high don't believe committed a crime. >> reporter: and eight defendants are charged with the most serious charge of involuntary manslaughter including two from our area, fraternity president brendan young from malvern, and nick cuebera from downingtown. nick -- excuse me. michael sca voni from yardley is charged with hazing and also reckless endangerment.

chad pradelli, "channel 6 action news." >> thank you, chad. in orlando, florida, church bills rang 40 times today, one for each person killed in the pulse nightclub one year ago. [ bells toll ] >> reporter: thousands of city officials, community groups, first responders, and everyday citizens gathered. they read the victims' names and vowed to keep workin working foa united orlando. new castle county police have arrested a suspect in friday's shooting in the overview gardens area. 30-year-old churchill christie is being held tonight for the shooting. the 27-year-old victim remains in critical condition. christie lives on the block where the shooting occurred. a family in philadelphia escaped safely but they lost much of what they own when fire swept through a building here on the 7500 block of longdale avenue here this morning. the fire heavily damaged these

caribbean restaurant on the ground floor as well as the family's apartment on the second floor. the cause of the blaze still under investigation tonight. the city of philadelphia is encouraging folks to stop giving panhandlers money. they're worried it may be fueling the opioid epidemic. instead, the city's come up with another way to help. today, the tech to give campaign was launched. you can text a donation that will go to homeless services in the city. just text the word "share" to 8077. and you'll be asked if you want to donate $5 to the mayor's fund to end homelessness. they will match it. and we will put that money into programs that work. >> donations will go towards housing, jobs, and services. again, to donate, you can text "share" to 80077. monday night. let's get a check of our traffic report for you. >> live to matt pellman in the traffic action center to see how things are rolling.

>> not so well, monica. plan "x" still in effect. the northeast extension northbound remains closed when you have a long-term closure in place, that's when they put the plan "x" into effect. and it is in effect this afternoon because of an earlier accident involving two trucks, northbound between lansdale and quakertown. so all lanes are blocked there. lot of people are using northbound 309 instead. you've got single digit speeds there. if you can think outside the box and maybe use roads like 152 limekiln pike or doylestown or 22 over to 100. i don't know. but don't want to use 476, the northeast extension, because you're going to be forced off if you try to. and all is not fine on the vine. eastbound between broad street and 95, broken down vehicle in the center lane, jammed solid coming away from the schuylkill. also today, they closed the ramp from 22nd street to the westbound side of the vine. that's construction for about the next three weeks. and we had a broken-down vehicle on 95 southbound by bridge street. luckily that is cleared out of the way. we'll check it again, rick, in the next half-hour.

montana congressman jeff forte today avoided jail time. he said he was very sorry for bod-slamming a reporter who asked a question about the health-care bill. he was sentenced to 40 hours of community service, 20 hours of anger management counseling, and a $400 fine. a new jersey teacher and yearbook adviser has been

suspended while the school district investigates why photos of two students were altered to remove president trump's name from their clothing. one student wore a t-shirt with the words "trump: make america great again." another wore a sweater vest with trump's name but neither photo appeared that way in the publicked photos -- published photos. there's a site-wide campaign to prevent teenagers from dropping out of the school. mayor kenney attended the first meeting on project uturn. the goal to get 100% of students to graduate from 20 gnlt. last year only 66% got their diplomas on schedule. there are several initiatives to help achieve the goal. i one of them focusing on improving attendance through mentoring programs and other initiatives. "healthcheck," we've been talking about the extreme heat. it's not just uncomfortable. of course, it can also be deadly. health officials are urging everybody to take precautions. >> that's right. time for the accuweather forecast monday night. >> all right. meteorologist cecily tynan with that steamy forecast. >> one more day of the extreme heat. and then we have some relief on the way. we're live on die 6, taking a look at the center city skyline. blue skies and sunshine. nothing more than a few fair weathered cumulus clouds. and the heat is on, day two of our second heatwave of the year. philadelphia, 93 trees. so far the high 94. one degree shy of the record high. allentown, reading, and wilmington, 91. trenton, 92. notice the place to be right on the beach, cape may. got that wind off the ocean. feeling quite a bit better there. 79 degrees. but close tort ocean is where the dew points are higher. you have that ocean influence. so dew points in the upper 60s in cape may, low 70s in dover. that's oppressive. here in philadelphia, the dew point is 60. so it's been mixing down with

some drier air, so it's slightly humid, but once the sun sets, you lose the mixing. so it will get a lot more humid after sunset tonight. now, satellite and radar showing this is the heat buster. it's a cold front. it's called a backdoor cold front because instead of coming in the normal way from the west, it will be sneaking in from the north. so tonight, it's just warm, very muggy against sunsets, moonlit sky. 74 in philadelphia. allentown, 68. wilmington, 70. and cape may, 70 degrees. future tracker showing tomorrow, 5:00 in the morning, the heat index already in the 70s and 60s. and then as we head into the evening, by 5:00, it feels like 95 in philadelphia and trenton. feels like 98 in wilmington. some areas could touch the triple digits. so that's why we do have that heat advisory. and also, it's another good reason to stay indoors tomorrow. it's an ozone action day. the air quality will be unhealthy to sensitive groups. the very young, the elderly, and

day when the dispritht of columbia accuses trump of violating the constitution by accepting payments from foreign governments while in office and not fully removing himself from his businesses. payments benefiting the president's hotels and golf courses. >> never in the history of this country have we had a president with these kinds of extensive business entanglements. >> reporter: the trump administration says these interests do into the violate the constitution. >> it's not hard to conclude that partisan politics may be one of the molt valingses between the suit. the suit was filed by two democratic attorney generals. >> reporter: and the justice department is still trying to figure out what ties, if any, there were between the trump campaign and russia. attorney general jeff sessions set to answer questions from the senate intelligence committee about his role in the firing of former fbi director james comey and his contacts with russians during the campaign. the frump administration says depending upon the scope of the

township this monk. chopper 6 over ellis and richwood roads in mullica hill. the driver of a van when wpt through a stop sign and hit another pickup in the intersection. that drive was ejected from the van and killed. the other driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. well, there's a talesounding the death of a woman in dover remain a mystery tonight. the action cam was along college road this afternoon as investigators were. wrag up their work. police will only tell us an african-american woman in her 50s was found dead lying in a yard this morning. her identity will be released after her family is notified and police say the investigation is ongoing and they're asking anyone with information to give them a call. also from our delaware newsroom, a tractor-trailer hauling a bunch of steel tipped over on its side in newark this afternoon. the driver was exiting northboundive 95 onto south college avenue and going around the curve when the rig went

over. luckily no one was hurt. but the off-ramp will be closed in the ramp is cleared and the investigation is complete. an amtrak worker was shocked while on the job today in philadelphia's parkside section. chopper 6 overhead near 50t 50th and jefferson. officials say it happened at 11:00 a.m. it's not clear comma led up to it but the power was obviously shut off immediately to the man could be rescued. firefighters and paramedics rushed to the seen and took that man to the hospital for treatment. the gloucester township police department in new jersey wants to build a better relationship with residents and businesses in the community. today officials showed off their new community outreach vehicle. the 25-foot trailer will not only serve as a social media examined center and meeting room. will be packed with sports equipment and games that the community can enjoy. the vehicle will be visiting neighborhoods all summer-long. all right. time now for an update on the highways and byways on your monday night. >> back over to matt pellman to see what's going on. >> we're hoping the air conditions are working well in the cars of all these poor people stuck on the northeast
