>> take a look right now at the video shot by chopper6 less than 90 minutes ago as the storms started rolling in. of course we're keeping an eye on the dark skies as the storms make their way through our area. >> it is monday night and the big story on "action news" is the severe thunderstorm watch in effect for our viewing area tonight. >> let's go right to meteorologist adam joseph who is watching double scan radar right now. >> these storms packing a punch and bringing out that intense humidity that was with us all weekend long and we're now up to three homes struck by lightning, the latest in avondale pennsylvania as these storms now pressing into philadelphia county, severe thunderstorm warnings there until 5:15, also delaware county, gloucester county as well as camden county, southern parts of montgomery and bucks county with winds near 60 miles an hour and blinding rain at the height of the rush hour in center city and all points to the north and west and now into gloucester county as well. you can see the edge of that line now pushing over the ben franklin bridge and also the walt whitman bridge, so

barnsboro 5 o'clock, richwood coming in at 5:01, gloucester city just after the 5 o'clock hour, tacony coming in at 5:03, collingswood right around 5:34, so those towns and times as that line continues to push to the east at nearly 45 miles an hour. not only lightning is a concern but also the intense rain with this. rainfall rates with these storms have been over two to three as much as 4-inches an hour, 4.3-inches per hour, so it is blinding rain as it passes through and we have an additional severe thunderstorm warning southern parts of new castle county as well as kent county down to woodside. this until about 4:00, 5:30 this morning. nasty cluster of storms, moving towards miles an hour today nah middletown nearly 150 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes so this we'll have to watch for all of our delaware county watches here

over the next 15 to 20 minutes. i bring in meteorologist melissa magee and this mag and s is a big storm engulfing most of the midatlantic. >> that's right. when you look at storm tracker double scan 3-d you can see the frontal boundary from new england back across the delaware and lehigh valleys and also for the rest of the midatlantic down into the virginias. so the line is sweeping eastward as we go throughout the rest of the evening hours and early nighttime hours as well. so, showers and storms in our northwest suburbs but eventually they're pressing into south jersey. so that severe thunderstorm watch, the watches have expired for allentown reading and lancaster because the line of showers and storms is starting to creep eastward but it does continue for our northwestern suburbs, the immediate ones in pennsylvania, the i-95 corridor also delaware and south jersey it stays up until 8 o'clock tonight. gusty winds and the possibility of hail a big concern. on top of that, we've got a flash flood warning. it stays up until 6:30 this evening for lehigh county. you can see for for lehigh

bush kill and upper milford we've already seen up to 2-inches of rain so far and overall there's a flash flood watch posted for the majority of our region. so, we'll talk about what we can expect for the rest of tonight f line of severe showers and storms on the way a the biggest concern will be damaging wind gusts, flooding downpours and lightning and the possibility of a few isolated large hail concerns as well. coming up we're going to take a closer look at the forecast. monica. >> we're learninging into information about this weekend's deadly shooting outside a center city nightclub. tonight the victims' family says their loved one was the personal shot and killed. "action news" reporter bob brooks has details. >> we were all there. more than one person knows what happened. so, if you want to be safe, get that person off the street >> reporter: somehow retha found the strength to speak with her today.

she is mourning the loss of her young nephew a young man she raised. he was the victim of last night's fatal shooting in systems it happened outside of the reserve lunch in the 700 block of arch street. she sis she can't believe her nephew is gone. >> another bright light blown out. he wasn't a candle he was a bright light. she sat reminisced with us about him. this is his college graduation picture from the indiana university of pennsylvania outside of pittsburgh. >> i couldn't afford books for him. he went to the library every day, every day and he got his work done. yes, he digit she says he volunteered his time and genuinely cared about others. >> he was a very inspiring young man. he's always been trying to do what's right. he's belonging to so many organizations. >> reporter: according to police, the young man was shot and killed after an argument escalated outside of the club.

his aunt says this is the second boy she's raised to fall victim to gun violence. she can't bear another. or someone else having to go through it. >> please stop all the violence. i'm so tired of mothers crying and fathers crying. for what reason? what reason did you have to kill this gentleman? what reason? >> reporter: now we also want to make mention that in 2009, aireken was an intern at "action news." our condolences go out to his family. we're told at 7 o'clock tomorrow night at the scene his family is holding a memorial for him. for now reporting in center city, bob brooks channel6 "action news". >> a jury has just been selected for the corruption trial of philadelphia district attorney seth williams. this just in to us. more than 130 potential jurors were brought in from nine counties for the case. tonight 10 women and two men have been seated. today lawyers on both sides question the potential jurors about their and ability toartial verdict.

williams faces 29 counts of bribery corruption and other crimes. he's pleaded not guilty to all charges. opening statements start tomorrow. >> well, today for the first time we heard from an alternate juror in the sexual assault case against bill cosby. meantime prosecutors are fighting a request by media outlets for the court to make the jurors' names public. "action news" anchor sarah bloomquist is live in our satellite send center with all of the day's developments. >> today this alternate juror in the cosby case gave an interview to a morning show on a classic rock station in pittsburgh. he told the radio show host he was ridiculously sick when he found out the seated jury could not reach a verdict. meantime montgomery county district attorney kevin steele has told the judge he opposes the court making the jurors' names public. two days after a judge declared a mistrial in the sexual assault case against bill cosby, mike mccloskey an alternate juror gave an

interview to wdeb. he did not deliberate with the full jury but mccloskey heard all the testimony. his reaction when the jury told the judge they were hopelessly deadlocked. >> oh, i was ridiculously sick because like i said i devoted two weeks of my life being sequestered in norristown, pennsylvania, which there should never have been a norristown. it's horrible. it's nothing there. >> reporter: cosby was charged with three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault. his accuser andrea constand says he drugged and violated her at his cheltenham home in 2004. jurors deliberated more than 52 hours before telling the judge they could not break their dead deadlock. >> which way one of leaned. >> i would have convicted based on the evidence i heard. >> reporter: mccloskey wanted to know how they were split but the business ride back to pittsburgh was in total silence. >> i thought there would be a lot of chatter on the bus ride home and nobody wanted to talk about it. it was complete silence. it was the craziest eerieest

bus ride i've ever taken. >> reporter: prosecutors are fighting to keep the jurors' identities secret arguing in a motion today that releasing them would that result in a publicity onslaught and have a chilling effect on future jurors. on "good morning america" prosecutor brian mcmonagel was asked how americans should reconcile the two cosbys they've come to know. >> i would say to them presume innocence and trust the system. >> reporter: now the judge has scheduled a 3:00 p.m. hearing for tomorrow. news outlets including abc news will argue that the jurors' names should be released because they have an extraordinary public importance and the news outlets have a first amendment right to know. cosby's attorneys have now joined the district attorney in opposing the release of the jurors' names. live at the satellite center, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news." >> thank you sarah. now a traffic alert that cop affect tens of thousands of commuters. dampen do the crews began surveying a busy stretch of the schuylkill expressway from the blue route to city avenue for until fixes that need to

be made. it is a project that will stretch into the fall. penndot is asking drivers to plan ahead because delays are inevitable. "action news" reporter john rawlins has details from conshohocken. >> reporter: if you use the expressway midday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., be forewarned. this week could be slow going with frustratingly sluggish one lane traffic like this. the inconvenience needed to prepare for a $21 million resurfacing of the montgomery county portion of the heavily used i-76. a survey crew like this one was actually visibly inspecting the travel lanes looking for weak spots. >> they are marking out places where they need to patch or make some necessary repairs and the reason why they're doing it during the day is they don't want to miss anything. >> reporter: the daytime efforts from 10:00 to 2:00 expect to last until friday. then next sunday the action moves to nights with actual patching, milling and resurfacing. >> it will be a nighttime operation pretty much from 9 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning week nights

double scan street level. you can see the showers and storms along route one and also along that 95 corridor as you get closer to mercer county, there in trenton. you can see as we track it here by 5:26 it's in bakersville, then by 5:28 it's in white horse. it will be moving into lawrence as we get into 5:28 this evening. another activity that we're tracking just to the south of this as we move into areas in jersey in cherry hill we're getting heavy rain right now, same thing for woodbury, along the new jersey turnpike as well. in mount laurel it will be in your location by 5:26. 5:32 pressing into medford so showers and storms moving into south jersey. it will be quite an active ride if you're out along the turnpike right now. here's part of the reason why we're getting all of the instability in the atmosphere of the the dewpoint numbers are very high. any time they're at 70 or higher there's a lot of moisture in the air. 70-degree dewpoint in philadelphia, 75 for millville, 74 degrees in dover. that's adding to the fuel and those showers and storms are coming on through. so, the current heat index

coast of cape may, new jersey on your right. the airport is reporting significant delays and cancellations tonight due to the weather. >> let's head over to meteorologist melissa magee now with the very latest. hi, melts is a. >> hi, monica, hi rick. things are quite active right now across our region. as we look at storm tracker6 live double scan radar 3-d we can see this line of activity from new england into the midatlantic region as well. within the past 15 minutes we've seen about 1200 lightning strikes. this line is very powerful as it works into our region. the severe thunderstorm warning has expired for philadelphia but it stays up until 6 o'clock this evening for areas in jersey for trenton, down into our new jersey suburbs and also into dover as we could find winds in excess of 60 miles per hour in some spots. so you can see the line of activity that we're tracking here on storm tracker6 street level pressing into cherry hill, also into marlton if you're traveling eastward close to route 70 and the new jersey turnpike things are getting active as well from woodbury down to glassboro. another piece of activity that

comey. rick, the deadline friday. reporting live here in washington, kenneth moton channel6 "action news". >> koenen thank you for that report. more on a developing story we first told you about at 4:30. otto warmbier the american student held captive by north korea for 17 months has died. warmbier was medically evacuated from that country last week and transferred to a hospital in cincinnati. doctors said he returned with severe brain damage but what caused it is that still a mystery. warmbier's parents released a statement a short time ago saying in part although we would never hear his voice again, within a day the count nance of -- county 10 nance of his face changed. he was at peace. we thank everyone around the world who has kept him and our family in their thoughts and prayers. otto warmbier was 22 years old. >> the death toll in the london high-rise apartment fire has now risen to 79. that number makes it the deadliest blaze in recent british history.

this weekend families were able to identify all of the people missing and believed to have died. flames engulfed the 24 story tower. many folks were trapped by the flames before firefighters could reach them. you are taking a look at just how massive several wildfires are burning across portugal. this video was taken by nasa from space. more than 2700 firefighters are fighting the fires. 63 people have died. it's being called one of that country's worst disasters. crews from spain, france and italy have that joined the fire fight dropping water from the air as those on the ground continue to contend with temperatures hotter than a hundred degrees. and world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the death of otto warmbier and the latest on the investigation into russia's interference in the 2016 u.s. elections. you can watch all that of following "action news" at 6:00. >> back here a man in his 20's was murdered in the middle of a philadelphia street dan detectives are trying to find the person who pulled the

trigger. chopper6 over the scene of the intersection of bridge and oak streets in north wood. police arrived and found the victim lying in the ground with several gunshot wounds. they have not released his identity or if they have any suspects in the case. chopper6 over a serious crash in hamilton mercer county this afternoon. happened along the 2700 block of nottingham way. you can see police firefighters and paramedics on the scene. authorities are not preleasing many details at this hour about injuries or how many cars were actually involved. >> authorities prevented a stockpile of drugs from reaching fans at delaware's popular firefly music festival. it is a story our news room was following all weekend for up. police seized more than 900 ecstasy pills crystal meth lsd mushrooms and cocaine from 26-year-old jordan reeser. investigators say he was caught with the drugs after he sold ecstasy to an undercover officer o a dover police officer suffered minor injuries during a struggle with reeser on his arrest.

55 miles per hour gusts reported there, chester county three houses have been struck by lightning. bath, that's in northampton county, wires and trees reported to be down in schnecksville we've seen wires and trees down as well. in berks county branches have been reported to be down so it's quite an active line that's moved to the east fairly quickly. look at the heat indices across the each john. where you have that convergence of cooler air to the north and west and still relatively warm and humid air to the south and east that's where we're finding that severe weather and where that cold front is setting up. still feels like 90 trees in millville, 88 in atlantic city feeling like 73 there in beach haven with a lot of moisture coming in from the south. here is satellite6 along with action radar. there's that line of activity from new england down across the midatlantic. it's racing eastward fairly quickly so south jersey certainly under the gun right now. future tracker6 showing you 10 o'clock tonight we're starting to clear for philadelphia and areas to the north and west but still heavy rain reported for lakehurst down to atlantic city,

wildwood on westward into dover. the good news, we'll clear out just in time for tuesday. it's a mostly sunny start to our day at 7:30 in the morning and the humidity will start to lower as we go throughout the day as well. especially by 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. so here's the forecast for us. mostly sunny, it's warmer and it's a less humid day, high in at 86 tomorrow, 85 in allentown, 79 at the coast in cape may and over in dover high temperature in at 86 degrees. so we'll find a break in the humidity over the next several days here. dewpoint numbers tuesday, wednesday and thursday will be in the middle and lower 50's but we'll spike up that humidity by the end of our work week. numbers back up into the upper 60's so another oppressive air mass on the way. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, it's sunny tomorrow its a nice day. high up to 86 degrees. that humidity will be dropping as well. summer arrives on wednesday at 12:24 in the morning with a high temperature in at 85. we're heating things back up by thursday and at 88 for a high. on friday it's hot and turning more humid with a rumble of thunder likely and at 90.

gusts of up to 60 miles an hour. meteorologist adam joseph and melissa magee are monitoring storm tracker6 live radar and everything else. first let's go to adam. >> it's the initial line where it comes through where we have the severe storms and then a steady to moderate and at times heavy rain sets in even after that initial line comes through with an additional thunderstorm still even west of philadelphia through chester, delaware and parts of montgomery county. severe thunderstorm warnings, there were some that were through burlington county, parts of atlantic county, those have expired. so the only warnings left right now parts of cumberland county and kent county and also new castle county in delaware until 6:45, strong winds initially with those storms that are packing quite a punch. but nonetheless, you can see the edge of this is very bright so we have very torrential rain. strong winds as well as cloud to ground light thing that is
