are packing damaging wind gusts of up to 60 miles an hour. meteorologist adam joseph and melissa magee are monitoring storm tracker6 live radar and everything else. first let's go to adam. >> it's the initial line where it comes through where we have the severe storms and then a steady to moderate and at times heavy rain sets in even after that initial line comes through with an additional thunderstorm still even west of philadelphia through chester, delaware and parts of montgomery county. severe thunderstorm warnings, there were some that were through burlington county, parts of atlantic county, those have expired. so the only warnings left right now parts of cumberland county and kent county and also new castle county in delaware until 6:45, strong winds initially with those storms that are packing quite a punch. but nonetheless, you can see the edge of this is very bright so we have very torrential rain. strong winds as well as cloud to ground light thing that is pretty intense, 45 lightning

strikes in the last 15 minutes along route 40, the atlantic city expressway and again during the rush hour you're dealing with a wall of water that initially comes down at rates of between three and 4-inches per hour, so it is blinding rain and as we head down to the south, we're also dealing with some pretty intense storms stretching through dover as well and you can see those rainfall rates an additional two to 4 inches of rain there and, again, this is where we have the most intense severe storms at the present time, over 150 or so lightning strikes from millville to dover just in the last 15 minutes. in addition to again the severe storms we're dealing with, a lot of water on the roadways. meteorologist melissa magee has more on that story and some of the further guidances across much of the area. >> adam that's right because we're dealing with so much water in such a short period of time we have a flood advisory into the evening. minor flooding is occurring in some reports. we've had reports of flash flooding to the north and west of philadelphia.

this stays up for the heart of our region. the exception the poconos, far northwestern counties for lehigh berks and also lancaster county. so the severe thunderstorm watch stays up until 8 o'clock. it has expired for philadelphia and points to the north and west as you are no longer in the heart of the severe weather. the worst of that heavy rain. it's now shifting off to the east for south jersey and also into delaware. with the watch we could have gusts up to district -- 60 miles per hour and the possibility of hail. that line clears the coast by 8 o'clock. the heaviest of the rain. we'll have residual moisture and leftover showers after 8 o'clock but the worst clears about 8 o'clock. break in the humidity as we get into tuesday but it stays very warm and it stays that way tomorrow even as we get into the first day of summer. midweek we'll have more details on the moisture that we're tracking tonight with that full and exclusive accuweather forecast, jim. >> thank you melissa. when stormy weather rolls through remember you can get detailed updates on storm

"action news" reporter vernon odom explains what happened today. >> reporter: by the time the district attorney and major officials in the case left the courthouse in a driving storm it had taken eight full hours to whittle 137 prospective jurors for the seth williams case down to 12 jurors and four alternates. by 5:00 it was done. the williams jury will consist of 10 women, two men, two african-american females p the embattled district attorney played an active role in the final selection process. his defense team says he is committed no crimes. federal prosecutors have lodged 29 corruption counts

against him for allegedly accepting bribes and acts of fraudulent they say it was done to support his lifestyle. prosecutors say he accepted gifts including caribbean vacation, a $3,000 couch and a vintage jaguar from two separate local businessmen between the years 2010 and 15. claiming he interceded on their behalf in various legal matters. prosecutors say he committed fraud when he allegedly diverted some $20,000 designated for his mother's nursing home care to his own use. if seth williams were to be convicted on all 29 counts against him he could face up to 20 years in prison. i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news" at the federal courthouse in center city. >> other courtroom news. a judge has denied bail for dr. james kauffman. kauffman was arrested on weapons charges last week in egg harbor township. police say he brandished a handgun while investigators executed search warrants at his office. at a court hearing this

morning police showed an officer's body cam video that allegedly shows kauffman with a gun. kauffman's attorney vowed to appeal the ruling. kauffman is the husband of murdered radio host april kauffman. investigators say the raid on his office was unrelated to her murder. philadelphia police continue to probe the deadly shooting that happened early sunday morning. the gunfire erupted outside the reserve lounge at seventh and arch killing a 29-year-old man. "action news" reporter bob brooks has the full story. >> another bright light blown out. he wasn't an candle. he was a bright light. >> reporter: she's talking about her 29-year-old nephew she raised him but early sunday morning he was killed. shot outside of the reserve lounge in the 700 block of arch street. she says he's the second child she's raised she's lost to the street with gun violence. she doesn't want anyone to

have to go through what she has now twice. >> we were all there. more than one person knows what happened. so, if you want to be safe, get that person off the street. >> reporter: she sat and reminisced with us about him. this is his college graduation picture from that indiana university of pennsylvania. >> i couldn't afford books for him. he went to the library every day. every day and he got his work done. yes, he did. >> reporter: she says he volunteered his time and genuinely cared about others. she says violence is exactly what he tried to avoid. >> he's been a very inspiring young man. he's always been trying to do what's right. >> reporter: according to police, the young man was shot and killed after an argument escalated outside of the club. >> please stop all the violence. i'm so tired of mothers crying and fathers crying. for what reason? what reason did you have to kill this gentleman? what reason? >> reporter: now tomorrow

night 7:00 p.m. the family says they're coming right back here to the scene. they're going told a memorial for him. also we want to make mention that he was an intern at "action news" back in 2009. we certainly send our condolences to his entire family. for now reporting in center city, bob brooks channel6 "action news". >> philadelphia's school teachers voting on a new contract right now. polls just opened at temple university's liacouras center. the district and the teacher's union reached a tentative agreement on friday. teachers have been working without a contract for four years. terms of the new pact have not been announced. if approved the contract would run through august 2020. motorists will be delighted with the repaving of the schuylkill expressway from city avenue to king of prussia its just getting from here to there will that's going to be the problem. "action news" reporter john rawlins has that story tonight. >> reporter: the focus of this $21 million project is the expressway from city

avenue to just west of route 202 in king of prussia. >> by the end of this october 120,000 motorist that is use this critical corridor each day are going to have a smoother riding surface. >> reporter: that is the primary goal but to get there to begin with at least some of those motorists this week will have to put up with this, intermittent lane closings between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. between the blue route and city a the lane closings necessary so survey crews can identify and mark weak spots in the road for repair. >> and the reason why they're doing it during the day is they don't want to miss anything. >> reporter: these daytime closures will impact eastbound tuesday, westbound on wednesday and thursday and both directions on friday. sunday the action moves to nights with the actual patching milling and resurfacing. >> going to be a nighttime operation pretty much from 9 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning week nights and then a little bit later on the weekends. >> reporter: but before the night operations could begin the daytime inspections must be done.

penndot mindful of daytime backups this morning they actually pulled the inspection crew briefly to let backed up traffic flow. >> now we had a crew that started at 10:00 a.m. and the traffic got so bad that we had to pull them off for a little bit. if traffic gets backed up bad enough we'll pull them off the highway and they were able to return once things calmed down. >> reporter: the expectation is the resurfacing portion of this project should be completed sometime in october. in conshohocken, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> and coming up on "action news" tonight the body of a teenaged swimmer caught up in a rip current turns up along the south jersey coast. and the sixers make a deal to move up in to the top pick in thursday's draft. we'll have details of that story coming up. adam. >> and the first round of widespread severe storms continues to pass through the region of the year and you can see it extends even back with a very heavy rain now in central parts of southeastern

avenue in margate just after 5:00 this morning. an autopsy identified the body as that of 16-year-old kaelia hand. hand and her friend, 15-year-old ramon quinn got caught up in a rip current off mlk beach in atlantic city thursday night. quinn has not yet been found. pennsylvania senator bob casey introduced legislation today that aims to prevent tragedies like the pulse nightclub disaster. casey discussed the disarm hate act in ardmore this morning. the bill would deny the sale of firearms to anybody convicted of a misdemeanor hate crime involving the use of force. casey was joined by tiara parker a survivor of the orlando attack who has become an advocate for gun legislation. >> i never thought in a million years that i would be in a situation where my life was almost taken by a gun. and to see that, you know, i lost one of the youngest victims that was at the post shooting.

>> according to the southern poverty law center 917 hate groups currently operate in the united states. that's up 50 percent since the year 2000. the newark police department is now enrolled in the medic alert leap program. the law enforcement agency portal allows officers to assist community members who are at risk for wandering. by enrolling a person in the free program, they will get a free medic alert bracelet. that information -- their information will be stored in the portal and if somebody wanders and is found officers can help reconnect them with a loved one. the city of philadelphia has kicked off enrollment for the second year of its free phl pre-k program. today mayor jim kenney complained how parents can sign up during a tour of the montgomery early learning center in point breeze. the pre-k program at that facility is expanding to include 20 new students in september. phl pre-k is that funded by revenue from the philadelphia

the federal funding. the money comes from the neighborhood building blocks fund for children struggling with poverty. violent weather in the tri-state area this morning. what does it looks like from here. >> trees down three homes struck by lightning. as we take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan it's the initial line that has the last of wind all of that lightning and torrential rain and then the steady rain sets in even behind those storms. as we take a look right now at the warnings that we have, the orange here in southern parts of cumberland county, as well as southern kent county, those are severe thunderstorm warnings in effect until 6:45 with some very strong winds with the storm and the red that you see in sussex county and near the border here of kent county, that is a tornado warning for sussex county in delaware. the storm that possibly has that rotation is just to the south and west of milford

right now about 10 miles or so north of georgetown, delaware and again, that out of our viewing area at this time. but if anyone in our viewing area was to get a tornado warning you would want to seek shelter on the lowest level of your home away from the windows but what we're dealing with right now from kent county through cumberland county is that line of intense to severe storms moving to the east at about 45 miles an hour. there are the towns and the times. you can see delmont at 6:35. 185 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes and as we extend to the north, you can see it is solid area of oranges and reds here as it approaches the garden state parkway here and there's the towns and the times for the northern extent of this line reaching the shore in the next 15 to 30 minutes and then it will slowly slide off the coastline and again, you get that steady rain to set in and also still some rumbles of thunder as far west as chester county and parts of montgomery

county right now. temperatures have really dropped off but it's not all that comfortable out there. it is still tropically humid, even after the rain. as you can see temperatures from fallen into the 70's after hitting a high of 90 degrees in philadelphia today. the problem and why we've seen so much rainfall out of these storms is the dewpoints. they are at or above 70 and have been through much of the day today and that is water vapor sitting in the atmosphere so that's when you step out and you kind of say to yourself, the atmosphere feels heavy or it feels like you can cut it with a knife. it's all that water that is just waiting there to be wrung out and that's what's happening at this time with a cold front passing through. behind it it does clear out but it's going to give a few hours before that clearing line moves in. in fact, future tracker showing at 10 o'clock still raining heavy at times in eastern parts and southern parts of new jersey, delaware, beginning to clear out with the cloud cover after midnight west of philadelphia, but by the time we wake up tomorrow

morning, even the shore, you're going to have the sunshine here for the last day of spring. the humidity is really going to drop and it stays seasonably warm with highs in the middle 80's tomorrow afternoon with wall to wall sunshine but the biggest difference will be how it feels when you step out tomorrow. in fact, the numbers are in the mid 80's inland. 70's for cape may county with a bit of a sea breeze. but much less humid, in fact we're in the comfy zone here for tomorrow wednesday going into thursday so a little break of that summer soup the next few days. as we look at the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast a beautiful day on tap here tomorrow at 86 degrees. first day of summer sun and clouds, could be a stray shower in the afternoon north and west of town overall a good day wednesday at 85. heats back to 88 on thursday. storms are back friday 90 degrees. start with a lingering storm saturday but improvement over the weekend and then a big drop in temperatures and humidity a week from now monday at 82 degrees so the
