killer after a deadly shooting this morning in north philadelphia. >> and a new jersey police department is mourning the death of an officer killed during an off duty crash. >> but the big story on "action news" is philadelphia's district attorney on trial. attorneys for both sides of the seth williams case is giving their opening statements today. katherine scott is live now in center city with the lightest developments. >> reporter: var, that is right, opening statements are underway right now, the prosecution painted the picture of a man who never missed an opportunity to steal money or sell his office but the defense is adamant that no crimes were committed. this is all underway inside of a 14th floor courtroom here in federal court. here is video of seth williams arrives here this morning. his attorney is presenting his case this morning.

they outlined five schemes to the jury and one thing they had in common is whenever the district attorney had a chance to line his pockets with money he took it. the first schemes involved two local business owners with cash and checks and jaguar convertible and vacations and more in return for political favors. and that he spent $25,000 meant for his mother's medical care and used the money for massages and facials and defrauded an anti-crime program by using vehicles detonated for law enforcement for his personal use. and the defense says that while he exercised poor judgment and kept poor records there were no crimes committed. they could not stand alone and not a single case during

williams seven years is office was compromised or corrupted by him. they will break for lunch and the prosecution will call the first witness this afternoon. channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. police are on the scene a deadly shooting in north philadelphia. a 32 man was found inside of a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds of cecil b. moore avenue, the victim was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. in norristown the courtroom showdown continues of whether the bill cosby jury should be identified after the panel members deadlocked several media outlets want their names made public but prosecutors are trying to keep them a secret. the judge will hear arguments this afternoon. and now the national weather service is looking into whether

tornadoes touched down in delaware season pennsylvania. a team arrived to assess the damage and high winds reduced some build cans to rubble and tore off roofs. they are expected to berks county after funnel clouds were caught on video. now we are enjoying calmer and comfortable conditions today. going live outside with sky 6 hd showing us center city it is mostly sunny and less humid. really a great day out there. meteorologist david murphy is here with a first check of your accuweather forecast. >> yes, things are getting better, we started out muggy this morning and a couple of clouds and most of them have cleared the coast and southern delaware is dealing with a little bit of it. good news considering it's strong storms late yesterday. we'll maintain mostly sunny skies and the dry air from the west is beginning to munch at that humidity and starting to

lower it in most of the region. 83 degrees warm enough to for a cool glass of water. 80 in trenton and dover and 81 in cape may and almost at your high temperature already in cape may. and dew points in the southern half of the region this morning are well down into the 50s. any time you have dew points in the 50s it's not what we consider humid and the holdout numbers like the 70 in cape may and dove continuing to drop and things are getting better than yesterday. 85 by 2:00, accuweather says 86 by 4:00 in the afternoon. by 6:00, 84 degrees and 9:00, 10:00, 77 by 10:00 and sunshine the rest of the way. tomorrow is not a bad day but in the afternoon spotty showers late in the day and summer officially arrives late tonight. we'll talk about that and the

exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast looking forward to the weekend a bit. how about that? >> yes always looking toward the weekend. the philadelphia school district teachers and staff members approved a tentative contract after going several years without one. it will cost the district $395 million. the contract is over budget and may require additional funds from the city and possible layoffs down the road. and they are mourning the death of an officer, he was off duty when he was killed in a car accident yesterday on nottingham way. his name has not been released and authorities are investigating the cause. today the world is reacting to the death of an american college student held captive in north korea. otto warmbier returned to the u.s. and president trump is

the remains of seven american sailors killed overseas will arrive at dover air force base today. sometime this afternoon actually. the men died when a navy destroyer, the uss fitzgerald collided with the destroyer off the coast of japan. they are being flown back from tokyo to the u.s. we are learning more about the man that drove a van into a crowd of worshipers outside of a mosque in london. police say that was 47-year-old darren osbourne, according to british media he is unemployed and living in a tent. one person died after the attack

and nearly a dozen others were sent to the hospital three people still in critical condition. his family says they are quote, massively shocked osbourne was behind the wheel at the time expressing their condolences for the attack. and police in france say that all four people detainedover night were family members of at taerk. he died after lighting hi car on fire before ramming it into a police convoy. the man had been flagged for his ties to radicalism. we are learning about a massive data breach exposing the information of 2 million american voters, a data firm hired by the republican national committee stored the files on an unsecured amazon server, the data bases were left open to the public for access without a password and they have

with the sea breeze beginning to kick in. 55 in allentown and 54 in philadelphia and the 50s equal comfortable numbers a couple of spots still with the more oppressive humidity and the dry air is working on the southern areas. satellite shows you the clear skies out to the west are only developing a couple of cumulous clouds at this points and maintain mostly sunny skies the rest of the way. up in the lehigh valley a nice break and 83 is the forecast high and down the shore improvement as well. highs of 80 degrees and clouds in the morning giving way to sun and the only place we have clouds down in delaware and beaches there are overcast, that will change too. over the next couple of hours. mostly sunny and less humid in philadelphia. more comfortable air coming in over the next several hours. the plans to get out there and do work outside and maybe jogging or something you'll want

opening statements in the federal bribery case in philadelphia's top prosecutor began today. we are live in center city with the start of seth williams trial. and a home suffered damage when a lightning strike sparked a fire here. 11 months after carrie fisher's death we learned that the actress had drugs in her system when she died. >> opening statements are underway in the corruption trial of describe attorney essential williams. williams is accused of taking bribes of tens of thousands of dollars in exchange for legal favors. vernon odom is live now outside of the federal courthouse with more on what was said today.
