of the bronx where one person was shot and killed inside a hospital. in the last 15 minutes police have identified the suspected shooter as 45-year-old dr. henry bell low a former employee at the bronx lebanon hospital. now officials say bell low pulled out a rifle under his white lab coat and opened fire. at least five people were hurt. police say bell low also killed himself. sources tell our sister station wabc that police are investigating this shooting as a workplace dispute. >> lawmakers in washington are head home for the holiday without a resolution on the senate's healthcare plan but not without one last call to action from the president. the today president trump tweeted urging senators to at least repeal the affordable care act immediately and then figure out a replacement in the future. abc's live in washington with the latest development. good evening, emily. >> reporter: good evening, monica. a group of 10 senators is now calling on the majority leader mitch mcconnell to cancel the august recess altogether so they can stay and the work

right now. the view from sky6 over the ben franklin bridge. it is a hot day out there today and it's expected to stay like that right through the weekend with a chance of storms from time to time as well. meteorologist cecily tynan now live outside with more on the holiday forecast. hi, cecily. >> hi, brian and the summer heat has arrived right in time for the fourth of july holiday weekend kickoff. in fact, in it feels pretty hot. currently the heat index, 95 degrees. it's breezy, new york city 93, washington, d.c. 92, the relief is down the shore getting a really nice sea breeze there but we're also seeing some storms up to the north. double scan live showing the bulk of the activity well to the north across parts of new york state, new england. however we do have a few isolated storms sneaking into the northern lehigh valley, northampton county. i expect we'll see more widespread activity across a big chunk of our viewing area by tomorrow night. so, future tracker showing as we head into the evening, this is really the stormy period to look at.

accuweather forecast before the big holiday. >> meteorologist cecily tynan here with the very important details on the weekend. hi, cecily. >> pressure is on. >> yes. >> all in all it's going to be a pretty nice weekend for the fourth of july weekend. let's head over to sky6 taking a look where a lot of people are already or heading heading e tomorrow, cape may notice not only do we have a lot of sunshine you can see that ocean, a lot of white caps there. we have winds up to about 30 miles an hour gusting along the beach and that is causing a moderate risk of rip currents not just today but also tomorrow and it's also having a huge impact on temperatures. the ocean temperature is chilly. it's in the low 60's. you get that that wind off the ocean. right now cape may is only 73 degrees. a lot of people wearing sweatshirts there. 9 miles inlands at the atlantic city airport in pomona it's 86 and it jumps to 94 degrees in millville and it feels like 95 degrees in philadelphia. now, tomorrow we have had a change in the forecast. dropping the temperature down into the 80's. don't let that deceive you. the dewpoints will be in the

70's so that means the way it feels, the heat index will be up into the mid 90's by the afternoon. so, the temperature will be down a notch but the humidity will be up and with that, we have a risk of some thunderstorms. now, double scan live showing we are seeing a cluster of thunderstorms moving into schuylkill county, seven lightning strikes with that, heavy downpours that could clip northern berks county but most of this area will stay up to the north. the main activity is waiting in the ohio valley. that moves through tomorrow. so satellite and radar showing this is really what we're watching. you see that line that's moving into ohio. that will be moving through late in the day tomorrow and tomorrow night. so, that's really our potential for storms. so, future tracker showing tonight 8 o'clock again little bit of activity across the lehigh valley northern berks county. it's overcast with high dewpoints lots of clouds. in the afternoon when you have to keep your eye to the sky

about 3 o'clock in the afternoon some activity bubbling up mainly across the lehigh valley and the poconos. the main line of storms likely will be moving through in the evening. the latest models showing it right across i-95 by 7:30 and then not reaching the coast until about an hour later. so, most of the day tomorrow will be rain free. late in the day and tomorrow night, is when you have to keep your eye to the sky. so, this is the forecast for tomorrow down the shore 80 degrees, breezy, the thunderstorms moving through after the sun sets tomorrow night. philadelphia 89 degrees, but again, that heat index in the mid 90's. going to be a steamy day with some late day thunderstorms. the poconos 75 degrees, very humid, strong storms and storms could be arriving in the poconos as early as lunchtime. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow it's very humid, it's warm, 89 degrees. sunday it's hotter but the humidity down, 91. monday 90 degrees. the fourth should be dry t it will be warm, 89 degrees and wednesday some afternoon thunderstorms with a high of 90 and that star should be on tuesday, not wednesday. talk about the heat hanging on

one approved grower has ties to the governor, another one just north of us affiliated with the company accused of illegally transporting on the cannabis across state lines. so we're investigating exactly how the state picked the winners and the losers. >> welcome to the bunkers. >> reporter: pennsylvania cannabis advocateoff whelan one of 177 applicants who paid $10,000 a piece a total of 1.77 million bucks to the state for a shot at owning a massive money making marijuana grow license. >> it is probably a million dollars a month that we would be generating out of this facility. >> reporter: his company called boca botanicals which includes all pennsylvania engineers investors and board members failed to get the thumbs up to grow in this underground facility. former flyers forward riley reiy is a member. >> i don't know if ethics is the right word but some shady business going on. >> reporter: companies can appeal the decision amid

concerns of how permits were doled. some companies shelled out upwards of $60,000 for a piece of the marijuana pie. the reason pennsylvania is potentially such a gold mine for marijuana growers is the state is approved medicinal use for 17 qualifying disorders. that's significantly more than any other state. >> people see, you know, see a ton of dollar signs here. >> reporter: but what's concerning according to attorney joe kelly is how the applicants were scored and whether the process was potentially tainted. >> i think there's a lot of concern out there that there's a lot of behind the scenes politicking that's going on with this stuff. >> reporter: for instance, the chairman of berks county franklin labs is governor tom wolf's former secretary of policy and planning john hanger. prime wellness of pennsylvania lists chase lenfest the son of gerry lenfest as a principal and financial backer. but most concerning to some is the issuance of a permit to pennsylvania medical solutions of scranton. it's affiliated with the a

minnesota cannabis conglomerate. two of that conglomerate's former top executives have been charged with smuggling half a million dollars worth of cannabis oil across state lines. so how were the winning growers chosen? the problem is kelly says no one really knows. >> they put the cone of silence on the decision making process. >> our regulations maintain the anonymity of team members to avoid any interference with their work or influence from outside parties. >> reporter: and in spite of the increasing public backlash the department of health tells us they defend their picks in what some are saying is a lack of transparency. >> it's important to note this has been an objective process. >> reporter: yesterday the rivers found of dispensary licenses were handed out with the same scrutiny:the department says the process was based on score cards which are criticized by some as arbitrary and inconsistent. monica. >> a person was seriously injured after being hit by car

in new castle delaware this afternoon. a deldot camera captured the scene in the southbound lanes of south dupont highway near pulaski highway. not clear what led up to the collision but we're told the pedestrian was rushed to the hospital with very serious injuries. police have not told us if the driver will be charged. we have newly released surveillance video of a drive by shooter in south philadelphia. you can see him right there coming to reach out the window of a white cadillac with a gun in his hand back on june 20. he did fire multiple shots in the 700 block of tasker street hitting a 23-year-old man in the shoulder. the suspect remains at large. his vehicle did have damage to the front driver's side and by the way, the cadillac emblem was missing from the front grille. >> police in upper merion searching for the man who brutally beat a 52-year-old man who was pumping his gas at a wawa. this is surveillance video of the crime. a blue minivan pulls up next to the victim. the man walks to him and demands his cell phone. he then punched the victim in

the face then continued to beat him as he lie on the ground. the victim was able to give police a description of the attacker. he is a thin white male with a thin build. police say the suspect was riding in a light blue dodge caravan or chrysler town and country. if you have any information you're asked to contact police. a woman already having a rough day became the victim of a purse snatch interwest philadelphia earlier this month. the 66-year-old woman had been in a car crash and was trying to sort out the details near the intersection of belmont and lancaster avenues. investigators say the man approached her grabbed her bag and then took off. if you know anything about this man, you're asked to contact police as well. >> a worker at a lehigh county fireworks company was badly injured in an explosion this morning. chopper6 in slatington where firefighters and police had the building taped off. the owner of celebration fireworks says an electric match may have malfunctioned. these are devices that are normally used to ignite each shell. the part-time worker had a bad

injury to her hand. no other information about her condition yet. the company does supply fireworks for shows all across our area and they say there is a chance that the investigation will impact shipments for the fourth of july. the coast guard wants to make sure everyone is safe on the water this weekend. operation dry water is in effect right now. officers will be on the water looking for impaired boaters. alcohol use continues to be a leading contributing factor in recreational boating related accidents injuries even deaths. >> like in a car alcohol does impair your driving on a boat and if people are not very familiar with the boat or their surroundings it can cause accidents, not just for themselves or for others out on the water. >> if you're headed out on the water this weekend make sure somebody knows where you are going in the boat. it's also important of course to make sure you have enough life jackets for everyone on board. >> well, there are welcome america fist activities going going -- festivities going on.

>> an incredible scene played out over one of the busiest freeways in america today. a small plane in distress crashed on the 405 in l.a. sending debris and flames flying and now two people are fighting for their lives. abc's alex stone has the latest. >> aircraft is on the freeway at this time. traffic has stopped on the 405 and there is fire showing. >> reporter: drama unfolding on the busy 405 freeway in santa ana california. small plane falling from the sky and bursting into flames as drivers were on the highway ahead of the busy fourth of july weekend.

people on the freeway caught completely off guard as the small plane came crashing to the ground. >> the plane holy leap leap it's a plane. >> reporter: creating a fire ball and heavy smoke. the faa says the aircraft a twin cessna 310 had taken off from john wayne airport a the pilot declared an emergency shortly after he was airborne and trying to return to the airport when the plane crashed. >> i actually witnessed the plane coming down and we noticed that it wasn't going to make it back to the airport. everyone started slowing down on the freeway and it hit the northbound side and burst into flames immediately. no one knew what to do. >> the first actions taken was the extinguishing of the flier after the removal of the patients. >> reporter: early reports from firefighters say the two people on board the plane a man and a woman suffered traumatic injuries. the plane clipped a car as it crashed but no one on the ground is pleased to have been injured. >> i lost my right engine.
