was off limits to taxpayers. it will take more than sunscreen to protect governor christie from the heat he's taking after the release of this photo. that's christie along with family and friends enjoying time at the governor's official retreat on island state park all as state police were turning beachgoers away because of the government shut down. when asked about it this weekend christie simply said. >> the governor has a residence at island beach. others don't. that's the way it goes. run for governor and you can have the residence. >> reporter: even the governor's second in command had a problem with christie trip to the sure. lieutenant governor kim guadagno posted a message on facebook reading in part if i were governor i sure wouldn't be sitting on a beach if taxpayers didn't have access to state beaches. it's beyond words. we need to end the shutdown now. steve 15 sweeny knee democrat had no comment about the photo but he did say regardless of where the governor ends up today, there's no reason for

you'll find a picture of governor christie on the beach and the latest on the efforts to end the impasse. >> we're following developing news from boston where a taxi crashed into a crowd of people near the airport today. within the last hour investigators announce it appears to have been an accident. massachusetts state police say the driver seems to have hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. the taxi hit 10 people in a waiting area. they are all being treated for injuries. some of them are serious. the car came to a rest against the building and also caused damage to a second structure. police have been talking to the 56-year-old driver. "action news" will bring you any updates to this story as they continue to come in. >> a fire at a house in mayfair quickly turned into a drug investigation this afternoon. crews arrived on long shore avenue and then immediately called for police. the scene is unfolding in a rather quiet neighborhood. "action news" reporter vernon odom is covering the story and he talked with residents there

and joins us now live with the full story. vern. >> reporter: sharrie, good evening. fortunately no one was injured. the neighborhood did not have to be evacuated in the wake of this fire. no one was in the house when first res though police tell me they have the name of at least one person of interest. just before 11:30 this morning, firefighters were summoned to long shore avenue in mayfair. that was a fire in the basement of one of the row houses. when they put it out it was declared a crime scene. what authorities found was evidence this property was being used to grow synthetic marijuana with the use of acetone. police got search warrants but word was already spreading quickly through this quiet neat and clean neighborhood. >> looks as though the air conditioner was on fire and it was and when they pushed it in, then one of the guys came out and said something was on fire in the basement. it was like pate thinner or as tone on a pile of stuff so it

seems as though they're investigating a drug situation no undercover detectives emerged with multiple bags of evidence clearly visible. the lieutenant in charge of this confirmed exactly what they have discovered here which resulted in the fire. >> fire board responded to a fire which appeared to be a weedy type substance on the floor in the basement which was soaked with acetone and they believe that as a result spontaneous combustion and it caught on fire. >> reporter: rick, the search for the suspect is -- they do have a name as i said before of a person of interest. the search of the rental property however is now over. again, police say they do have the name of a person of interest who was nowhere to be found when the police and fi live in mayfair i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> the man charged in that

deadly road rage shooting in chester county is being held without bail. 28-year-old david desper turned himself in to police early yesterday. investigators say he shot 18-year-old bianca roberson last week as both of them were trying to merge into the same lane on route 100 in west goshen. the tooken was found dead in her crashed vehicle. desper is now charged with first degree murder. his preliminary hearing is scheduled for july 13. >> three armed suspects targeted a mcdonald's in west philadelphia robbing it early this morning. police were called out to the restaurant at the intersection of 56th and vine around 4:30 a.m. the suspects waved guns and demanded money from the employees there. two workers received some minor injuries but it's not clear exactly what happened to them. the suspects did get away with some cash. some type of fight led to a shooting in the feltonville section of philadelphia. the victim was shot once in the leg around 1 o'clock this morning. police found him along the 4700 block of rising sun

avenue and rushed him to temple hospital in critical condition. so far, though, no one has been arrested. >> all right. time now for a check of your accuweather forecast as we get close to that holiday tomorrow. >> all right, let's head outside to meteorologist cecily tynan who's in for adam today t hi, cecily. >> hi, sharrie, hi rick. another warm one. since friday temperatures have been flirting with the 90's although it's not officially a heat wave. friday we reached 93 as expected, saturday it was very humid ahead of that front but temperatures fell 1 degree short of 90, 89. yesterday 91. today so far 90 degrees. the normal high for this time of the year is 87 so temperatures definitely on the warm side holding at 90 in philadelphia, the same in washington, d.c., richmond virginia, 92, new york city a little bit cooler, 87 degrees. the nice thing is that dewpoints have dropped a little bit. they've dropped into the 50's so that's a pretty dry air mass although the dewpoints will be rising as we head

backdrop of russia being investigated for interfering in the 2016 elections. the promoter behind the fyre festival facing federal fraud charges. people paid thousands of dollars for a weekend music and luxury in late april but the experience quickly turned into a nightmare. abc's nick watts has details about the case. >> reporter: billy mcfarland co-founder of the failed fyre festival is feeling the heat charged with wire fraud in federal court in connection with his music festival gone wrong. >> the actual experience exceeds all expectations. >> reporter: 25-year-old mcfarland created the event with rapper gentleman rule who hasn't been charged promising concertgoers a lavish once of a lifetime event on the beautiful island in bahamas. bilal hadid were hired to appear in this promotional

video. along with kendall jenner who also promoted the festival to her 82 million instagram followers. >> it was basically the exact opposite of everything we were promised. >> reporter: the event a full-fledged fiasco for people who paid thousands to attend. >> there was no showers. there was no bathrooms. there was no like running water. >> reporter: at the time mcfarland blaming a storm for the utter chaos. >> a big storm came through and busted our water system and affected half of the housing tents. >> reporter: leaving mobs of millennials enraged. >> they basically abducted us. >> reporter: now investigators allege the festival attendees weren't the only ones duped. in court documents prosecutors say mcfarland perpetrated a scheme to defraud at least two individuals in an effort to secure a $1.2 million investment in his company. according to the u.s. attorney's office, mcfarland allegedly sent fake documents claiming the company made millions in revenue in 2016 to 2017 when he'd only earned less than $60,000.

both directions both in us getting the information out and receiving information. we received hundreds if not thousands of tips. >> reporter: and police say they're still looking for help. >> anybody with information as far as his habits, where he worked. >> reporter: the crime he's now accused of is described by chester county d.a. tom hogan as savage that he shot and killed 18-year-old bianca roberson from his red pickup truck. >> as bianca was merging down from two lanes to one there was a man in a red pickup truck also merging down. and they jockeyed for position and he wasn't happy so he pulled out a gun and shot bianca in the head. >> reporter: roberson's brother spoke to us about his arrest. >> i thought that i would feel relief or, you know, excited and happy. i mean, i was happy but then i started to feel down. >> reporter: at this point not much is known about the 28-year-old from treanor. hogan says he worked as a well and pipe driller for local businesses. this is desper's home the grass overgrowing the mailbox

some of the windows sealed up with cinder blocks and cement windowpanes on one of the doors also shattered. we know his pickup was that found outside this home on huntingdon farm drive in glen mills. no word on the connection. we also spoke with desper's attorney dan mcgarrigle. he says desper came to his office to turn himself in. investigators say the pressure coming down from that social media and the public outcry likely pushed did he say ever to do so. >> when we went to houses to ask questions and they knew why we were there. they were very willing to help. >> reporter: david desper is due back in court july 13th. reporting live at the west goshen township police department, bob brooks channel6 "action news." rick, back to you. >> bob, thank you. in other news police in berks county say man pulled over when someone behind him flashed their lights and when the driver pulled up next to him, he was shot. happened here on the 500 block of east lancaster avenue in kumry township. happened around 2:00 a.m. the victim was hit in the arm. he managed to drive himself to the hospital. the investigation into what

led up to this shooting continues. a fire reached two alarms at a business in franklinville, new jersey. firefighters were called to auto sculptors around 1:00 a.m. on the 3,000 block of delsea drive. flames were seen coming out of the office side of the business. three tanker trucks had to be brought in to help because there were no nearby fire hydrants. no one was hurt in the blaze fortunately. a garage went up in flames in the roxborough section of philadelphia. this was the scene along the 4800 block of silver wood street just before 5:00 a.m. no word if anyone was hurt in the blaze. the cause remains under investigation. >> well, the search is on for the man who police say tried to rob a 14-year-old boy at gunpoint in west philadelphia. the suspect was captured on surveillance video inside of a store near the crime scene. investigators say the man approached the victim and displayed a handgun on the 6300 block of jefferson street on june 19th. but the would be thief ran

away empty handed after the boy yelled for help. new jersey authorities are hoping a $10,000 reward will help them find those responsible for an anti-semitic vandalism event. a banner containing an ethnic slur was left on lakewood's holocaust memorial. police are trying to figure out if that incident was connected to fliers distributed with offensive language. the fliers were left on dozens of cars. they were referring to the recent arrest of several lakewood residents. the residents were charged with misrepresenting their incomes in order to get public welfare benefits. >> all right, we want to go back to our breaking news story from our last half hour. we've been following it for you in broomall delaware county. chopper6 hd live over the blue route at route three. a tractor-trailer overturned and spilled its load onto the interstate as you can see there. crews remain on the scene to clean up the mess. the incident has traffic backed up for miles. again, a tractor-trailer has overturned on 476 at route
