governor christie having a party on the beach when nobody else can, little bit unfair. >> reporter: lawmakers descended on trenton today in an effort to find some charm to end the shutdown that the governor ordered june 30 after lawmakers failed to agree on a budget closing allstate run recreation areas and most government agencies. families are flocking instead to places like sandy hook seashore which falls under federal arms. it packed. vendors reaching huge benefits from larger crowds. >> yesterday it was packed. >> yesterday was crazy busy. we ran out of umbrellas at like 11:00 and we literally had to wait to call people when we would get the umbrella back. >> reporter: this in contrast to my vendors near shuttered island beach state park pictures showing its lack of activity compared to surrounding municipal beaches. >> we need to get together as legislators, as the executives and compromise on the budget and we need to do it now. the small businesses here in berkeley can't afford it.

>> fourth of july holiday. we went through a rough one many people want to enjoy themselves. want to go to the beach and you do it like this? you have a little -- weekends are nice especially fourth of july. don't close the beaches down. >> reporter: some people hoping maybe in vain that the shutdown will end before the fourth of july does. at sandy hook, tony yates, channel6 "action news." >> well, one thing that remains opened during the government shutdown new jersey's casino business. but if the shutdown extends past friday, casinos in the garden state can shut down. that's because of a law passed back in 2008 which allows casinos to stay running for up to seven days into a government shutdown. officials say they're looking for ways to make sure that doesn't happen especially with casinos regaining momentum in recent months. our coverage of the new jersey government shutdown [inaudible] you'll find a pictures of governor christie on the beach a full list of what's closed and what's not and the latest on the efforts to end the

impasse. >> ♪ >> now to some breaking news on the blue route in broomall where pennsylvania state police are still on the scene of an overturned tractor-trailer. chopper6 now giving us this live view. this all happened before noon today but still a mess there now as we see. it has been tying up traffic ever since. at this point it's unclear why the trailer overturned. matt pelman is tracking the commute. he'll have an update in just a few minutes. well, what started as a house fire in philadelphia's mayfair section has now turned into a drug investigation. crews were called to the 2900 block of long shore avenue around 11:30 this morning. where inside police found evidence the rental property was being used to grow synthetic marijuana. undercover officers told "action news" on the scene that it appears the chemical acetone which is used to treat the plants may have fueled the flames. some type of fight led to a shooting in the feltonville section of philadelphia.

the victim was shot once in the leg around 1 o'clock this morning. police found him along the 4700 block of rising sun avenue and rushed him to temple hospital in critical condition. so far no one has been arrested. >> officials in delaware say they will not hand over detailed voter information to the president's voting commission. the commission asked for the information as part of an investigation into alleged voter fraud in last year's elections. today delaware's state commissioner said releasing such information would not preserve the fairness or integrity of elections in the first state. pennsylvania governor tom wolf also said he will not comply with the president's order. new jersey officials have not yet responded publically. >> the fourth of july is just hours away but it's safe to say holiday activities are already in full swing around the region. that includes up and down the jersey shore packed with people looking to enjoy the beach on this hot and sunny long weekend. >> and the action cam in ocean city which was the scene of a

very busy boardwalk today. how about all those umbrellas? even with all the traffic getting out to the shore we found plenty of folks in high spirits now that they are ocean side for the holiday. why not? >> you're going to hit the arcade 'cause we got a bunch of little kids here and we're going to get some candy and maybe hit rita's. >> sit down and relax. i love this. you know, it's better than being in pennsylvania. we don't have the beaches, you know. we had to come all the way out here to travel but i love it. >> meantime all eyes are on tomorrow's forecast and what it means for fireworks. meteorologist cecily tynan outside now with more on the forecast. hi, cecily. >> hi, sharrie, hi rick. all in all a pretty nice fourth of july weekend, definitely on the warm side. we've been flirting with the 90's since friday. friday the hottest day, up to 93. saturday as expected, fell 1 degree shy of 90, 89 degrees. ahead of that cold front and then behind it it was back in the heat yesterday, 91 degrees, lower humidity yesterday than saturday, though and today currently 90. so not a heat wave but

the blue. blue route still closed in the northbound direction right here at route three broomall upper darby is where the truck flipped over hours ago. they have the trailer, the banged up trailer now attached to a tow truck but there's still debris all over the highway so it doesn't look like it's going to be opened real soon. they're forcing you off of the northbound side of 476 back to the route one media bypass which is also jammed and you're looking at speeds at times in the single digits coming north of 95. you want no parts of this. 320, 352, 252 are the alternates. otherwise volume is down this afternoon, lighter than normal, just a few slow patches on the schuylkill and 95 with speeds in the 30's and the a.c. expressway eastbound headed into ac has reopened, a crash there is gone. not a big delay at this point either as you get on the parkway there in the ongoing construction zone. we'll check it again, rick and sharrie, coming up in the next half hour. >> all right, matt thank you. much more still ahead on "action news" at 5:00 tonight. president trump back on the world stage. coming up at 5:30 the big meeting the president's

>> we are following developing news out of boston where 10 people were hurt after a taxi driver jumped the curb near the city's airport. all the victims were lined up to get a cab at boston's logan international. officials believe the taxi driver accidentally stepped on the gas instead of stepping on the brakes. one of the victims was seriously hurt. a bus crash on a german highway has taken the lives of 18 people and left 30 other people hurt. authorities say the busloaded with senior citizens slammed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic in bavaria. the crash touched off a fire so intense that firefighters couldn't get in to rescue those trapped. no word yet on why the bus driver didn't slow down. >> tennis player venus williams temporarily left an interview at wimbledon today after being asked about a deadly car crash she was involved in. williams was discussing her

first rounds win today when a reporter mentioned her heart felt post about the accident on facebook. >> there's really no words to describe like how devastating and -- yeah, i -- i'm completely speechless and it's just -- >> williams teared up and struggled until the moderator suggested she leave. she did return a short time later but wouldn't talk about the june 9th accident. police say she wasn't acting recklessly but was at fault when jerome barson's car collided with hers. williams has not been ticketed or charged. >> a former ph.d. student is being held without bond in illinois charged with kidnapping a chinese graduate student. 28-year-old brent christenson only said a few words during the nine minute hearing. authorities believe yingji is

patients struggle to find treatment that works. now, one procedure, a bacteria transplant has shown success. it transplants bacteria from a donor with a healthy gut. experts say we need more research on the long term effects of this treatment and a nationwide registry has been set up to collect that many data. the number of teenagers having babies continues to drop and has now hit a record low. the rate has fallen by 51 percent since 2007. experts credit better birth control and better access and use of birth control. and the man who inspired the ice bucket challenge to raise money for als research has been admitted to a know massachusetts. pete frates continues his battle with the disorder. frates was behind the social media craze that had thousands of people challenging friends dump an ice bucket over their head or donate to an als charity. many people did both and it raised more than $200 million.

>> the stock market closed early today because of the fourth of july holiday. an uptick in bank stocks helped the dow start off the second half of 2017 on a high note. the dow jones hit an all time high at the early close gaining 130 points, nasdaq losing 30 and change, the s & p 500 gaining almost six. markets will be closed tomorrow for the fourth of july. facebook is now helping

>> time for the accuweather forecast. >> meteorologist cecily tynan is here now with the hot and sticky details especially for tomorrow. >> yes, well, tomorrow temperatures down a notch but the humidity up a notch so it's a little bit of a trade-off. let's go live on sky6 take a look at the scene. this is our temple university camera seeing lots of sunshine, a few fair weather cumulus clouds popping up and we do have temperatures in the 90's. so, if you're out and about tonight, it stays on the warm side. basically we are in the 80's right through 8 o'clock and then as we head towards midnight, temperatures dropping down into the 70's. so, definitely a warm evening and your fourth of july forecast is looking pretty nice. we're looking at generally dry

conditions. there will be an isolated shower or thunderstorm popping up but most of the region will be rain flee. temperatures will be on the warm side, slightly on the humid side but not oppressive. at 8 o'clock 80 degrees, 11 o'clock dropping down to 75. so, right now it's hot out there. it's not all that humid. dewpoints have actually dropped down into the upper 50's so humidity levels not too bad but the heat is definitely on. philadelphia, millville, wilmington all holding at 90 degrees. allentown currently 86. if you're on the beaches with that ocean temperature of 65, that makes a big difference on the air temperature. cape may it's 80 degrees. atlantic city airport which is in pomona, 9 miles inland very hot, 84. we have a weak boundary moving across the northern suburbs touching off an isolated shower right over schuylkill county right now. what that will do is sink to the south overnight. so, tonight again an isolated shower possible, mainly north and west of philadelphia.

otherwise, it's partly -- partly cloudy, it's not going to be sunny tonight and it will be warm. 73 philadelphia, 66 allentown, wilmington 60 cape may 69 degrees. as we head through the day tomorrow o-10 o'clock good amount of sunshine, some clouds up to the north. then that boundary sinks to the south. this will create a few isolated pop-up showers and thunderstorms around 4 o'clock. this latest model showing right along the i-95 core done and a little bit farther to the south by 9 o'clock, i think this is overdone, most areas will be rain free but we will get a few isolated pop-ups. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow it will be warm, a little bit on the humid side again an isolated shower or thunderstorm, a high of 88 degrees. lined this -- behind this system 86 degrees. kind of the same on thursday with a high of 86. friday is the day we really heat up. it's hot with temperatures in the 90's, low 90's. it will be more humid with

he is going to meet with vladimir putin and what about russia and russia's influence on our elections? we're not talking about those things, we're talking about the president's tweets. >> trump defended his use of social media calling it "modern day presidential." former president barack obama got a warm welcome in south korea this morning. obama met with south korean president and the two discussed keeping up pressure on north korea to stop its nuclear ambitions. they also talked about moon's meeting last week with president trump. obama is in korea to speak at a leadership forum. >> isis militants are using female suicide bombers hidden among fleeing civilians as the battle for mosul reaches its final stages. two women targeted troops in mosul while another killed 14 in a camp for displaced civilians. iraqi troops hid deeper into the olde city but the fighting is being done one building at a time.

the u.s. is providing airstrikes and advisors on the ground. at least 33 people are dead and more than 600,000 evacuated because of flooding in southern china. torrential rains have pushed 10 rivers beyond the flood warning stage. in addition to the dead, more than a dozen are missing. china's prime sugar growing region is among those hardest hit. world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the top stories from around the globe including president trump's upcoming meeting with world leaders. >> police in berks county say a man pulled over when someone behind him flashed their lights and when the driver pulled up next to him, he was shot. it happened here on the 500 block of east lancaster avenue in cumru township. the victim was hit in the arm. he managed to drive himself to the hospital. the investigation in what led up to the shooting continues.

a fire reached two alarms at a business in franklinville gloucester county overnight. firefighters were called to auto sculptors' around 1:00 a.m. here on the 3,000 block of delsea drive. flames were seen coming out of the office side of the business. three tanker trucks were brought in to help because there were no nearby fire hydrants at the scene. no one was hurt in the blaze. the cause still under investigation. philadelphia fire investigators are also trying to determine the cause of this fire in roxborough. a garage went up in that flames along the 4800 block of silver wood street just before 5:00 a.m. there's no word if anyone was hurt in the fire. >> police are looking for the man who tried to rob a 14-year-old boy at gunpoint in west philadelphia. the suspect was captured on surveillance video inside of a store close to the crime scene. investigators say he approached the victim and displayed a handgun on the 6300 block of jefferson street june 19th. but the would be thief ran away empty handed after the

boy yelled for help. police in ventnor still trying to sort how a person ended up injured on the street late last night. it happened near atlantic and newport avenues just before 10:00 a.m. -- or 10:00 p.m. initially investigators believe the person was thought to have been thrown from a car. the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. officials are not commenting on how badly the person was hurt. >> pennsylvania governor tom wolf still has the main part of a new budget on his desk but without funding to close a $2 billion gap. lawmakers have yet to agree on how to raise the money and the clock is ticking. they sent him the main appropriations measure days ago. a wolf hasn't said what he'll do if lawmakers do not meet that deadline. >> time for the "action news" traffic report. >> all right, matt pelman back in the "action news" traffic center. a lot of folks off today but there was still a heap of problems on the highways and by ways, matt. >> no partisan feuding over this. you do not want to head for

the blue route this afternoon. no argument about it, rick and sharrie. northbound lanes are still blocked because of an overturned truck. it happened around noon today. the truck flipped over, spilled its contents all over the northbound lanes here at route three, the broomall upper darby interchange. this is what's left of the trailer. it's now upright but the front end loader is still in here. they're still cleaning up that debris that was all over the road so you can't even get this far on the northbound side of the blue route. you're actually forced off back at the route one media bypass, lima springfield and then that chunk is shut down. delays still spill back to macdade boulevard. it is still a mess. you still want to avoid you. use 320, 252, 352,. blue route northbound still has single digit speeds this afternoon. but otherwise, speeds are better than a normal monday on the schuylkill and 95. just a few slow patches. getting ready for independence day festivities. inner drive of the ben franklin parkway blocked. portions of fifth, sixth chestnut are blocked all night

>> firefighters on the front line of growing wildfires in arizona being hailed heroes for stepping up to save two animals from certain death. take a look at this. two firefighters rescued two darby baby deer from the flames tearing through arizona's prescott national forest just north of phoenix. the fawns were not hurt. they were taken to a nearby habitat to be reunited with their mother. that wildfire has already charred more than 43 square miles of land in arizona and is little more than halfway contained. a beautiful sight from space was captured by nasa cameras. time lapse video from the international space station shows aurora's dancing above earth. the auroras occur which electrically charged electrons and protons in the earth's nag net particular field collide with neutral atoms. we'll have quiz placement sounds complicated but in simple terms it's a gorgeous array of light. the name aurora comes from the

meanwhile. walter. >> reporter: hey, rick, you know, lawmakers met today. we're told progress was made on this third day of the government shutdown but once again it was that photo of governor christie that stole the headlines. that is governor chris christie along with family and friends soaking in the sunshine on an otherwise empty island beach state park near the governor's official retreat. the beach is empty because state park police were turning people away from the main gate due to the government shutdown. when asked about it during a news conference this weekend christie simply said. >> the governor has a residence at island beach. others don't. that's the way it goes. run for governor and then you can have the residence. >> reporter: even the governor's second in command has a problem with christie's trip to the shore. lieutenant governor kim guadagno also the gop nominee for governor posted a message on facebook blasting christie and she did not back down when asked about it earlier today. >> i can tell you what i would do if i was the governor. i certainly wouldn't be on the beach at a park that was closed as
