meanwhile. walter. >> reporter: hey, rick, you know, lawmakers met today. we're told progress was made on this third day of the government shutdown but once again it was that photo of governor christie that stole the headlines. that is governor chris christie along with family and friends soaking in the sunshine on an otherwise empty island beach state park near the governor's official retreat. the beach is empty because state park police were turning people away from the main gate due to the government shutdown. when asked about it during a news conference this weekend christie simply said. >> the governor has a residence at island beach. others don't. that's the way it goes. run for governor and then you can have the residence. >> reporter: even the governor's second in command has a problem with christie's trip to the shore. lieutenant governor kim guadagno also the gop nominee for governor posted a message on facebook blasting christie and she did not back down when asked about it earlier today. >> i can tell you what i would do if i was the governor. i certainly wouldn't be on the beach at a park that was closed as i said before it's

beyond words. it's insensitive to the people who can't use the park. >> reporter: in the meantime governor christie sent out a tweet reading new jersey beaches are open and 119 of our 130 miles of coastline. come and enjoy them. back in trenton we asked lawmakers what they thought of the photo. >> i don't -- look i just -- i don't have a comment. governor does what the governor does. i can't control him. >> reporter: over the weekend a reporter asked governor christie tongue in cheek if he got any sun. another reporter asked the same question of state senate president steven sweeney. >> this is my blood pressure, not son. see you guys. >> reporter: a budget deal will not be reached today. they say a deal will not be reached and signed until tomorrow night at the very, very earliest. reporting live from trenton, walter perez channel6 "action news." rick. >> all right, walter, thank you. and our coverage of the new jersey government shutdown continues on 6abc.com. you'll find a full list of what's closed and what's not

and the latest on efforts to end the impasse. delaware governor john carney the state's new $4.1 billion budget last night. lawmakers reached a deal on a spending plan during a special session yesterday a day after failing to reach an agreement before saturday's deadline. the new budget includes measures to attract and keep good paying jobs in delaware as well as expanded access to substance abuse treatments and pay raises for correctional officers including a 22 percent boost for starting officers. now an update to a story we've been following for much of the afternoon today. pennsylvania state police remain on the scene where a tractor-trailer overturned and spilled its load along the blue route in broomall just before noon today. this happened in the northbound lanes at the route three exit ramp. crews managed to remove the trailer but work continues to clear its contents and debris left behind. avoid this area as traffic remains backed up tonight. high temperatures combined

with the long holiday weekend have had people flocking to the shore for sun and fun. "action news" reporter john rawlins will have much more on that in a moment but first meteorologist cecily tynan has the latest on the fourth of july forecast. hey, cecily. >> reporter: hi, rick. it certainly has been a hot fourth of july weekend. it started on friday. our high on friday 93 degrees. on saturday, we dropped down into the upper 80's. as expected, so that means although it's been hot this is not officially a heat wave. yesterday and today both days 91 degrees. the normal high is 87 and tomorrow temperatures should drop back up into the upper 80's. so, again, shouldn't be a heat wave but it is hot. 90 degrees in philadelphia, new york city quite a bit cooler, 74. washington, d.c. 89. and richmond currently 88 degrees. we do have a weak frontal boundary that will be pushing through overnight. ahead of it, though, it's not all that humid. the dewpoint is 60 degrees in philadelphia, slightly humid so as that boundary pushes through we won't see anything

more than an isolated shower. isolated shower across northern berks county right now. tomorrow, fourth of july looking pretty nice. lightly humid temperatures in the upper 80's which you expect for july, partly sunny but in the afternoon and evening, we could have a spotty shower or a thunderstormly i'll talk more about that and track more widespread activity by the end of the week coming up in the full accuweather forecast. rick. >> all right, cecily, thank you. now to reporter john rawlins who is lie along the boardwalk in ocean city tonight. john, how are folks enjoying their time at the shore so far. >> reporter: rick, so much about going to the jersey shore is about tradition. people have fond memories of coming here when they were children with their parents grandparents cousins. now the boardwalk and the amusement rides and the food and the beach may not be exotic but it is very comfortable. >> we don't have a shore house or anything. we just decided to hop in the car drive down for the day. relax on the beach. >> reporter: getting here in stop and go traffic not fun but being here on this picture perfect jersey shore day worth it.

many came with a to do list in mind. >> beach, uh, get fudge, salt water taffy, go on the rides. >> oh, my gosh, definitely take a bike ride. we live on 40th street. come down do the boardwalk. we hit manco and manco if it's open. we love that. >> reporter: lots of people had the same idea, the boardwalk happy chaotic and packed. down at the shore line it was umbrellas almost as far as the eye could see. >> sit down and relax. i love this. you know, it's better than being in pennsylvania. i don't got -- we don't have the beaches, you know. >> swim in there. >> reporter: you get out in the water. it's kind of chilly isn't it. >> no,no, not really. once in there it's kind of great. >> reporter: the trenton impasse put some shore campers in a bind. operators of the avalon campground in cape may courthouse handled last minute calls and provided some relief. >> people were scrambling to find a place and we happen to

shore of a late this morning and then called in police. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live at the scene and vern, what did the investigators find at the house? >> reporter: they found a lot of drugs and drug paraphernalia rick but it's been a very strange day in this neighborhood. police have just locked up a young female who was trying to gain entrance into the house in question right behind me to a rear entrance. why she was locked up and what the charges are we can't say. police did not tell us what they were. for many here its been a stunning day in this quiet, quiet section of mayfair. at first it seemed like an innocent row house fire in mayfair. the 2900 block of long shore. easy to put out but when the smoke cleared, firefighters knew they were at a crime scene. they found evidence of synthetic marijuana known as k2 being made here laced with acetone o there was no one here when the furthers

arrived. the house is a rental property. >> fire board responded to a fire which appeared to be a weedy type substance on the floor in the basement. this was -- which was soaked with acetone and they believe that result in spontaneous combustion. >> reporter: bag after bag of evidence was brought out late this afternoon. police tell me the acetone process with the leafy planter can be highly flammable if not properly ventilated. neighbors are not surprised about what happened. >> no, not really shocked. >> reporter: because. >> there was a couple reasons down there and one up there so. >> reporter: drug houses. >> yes. >> reporter: so you're not surprised by what happened here. >> no, not surprised. >> reporter: rick, neighbors tell me the renters who occupy that house had just moved in about a month ago and they don't -- they don't know very much about them. police tell me, however, they do have the name of a person

of interest in connection with their drug investigation here. i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." reporting live from mayfair. >> all right, vernon, thank you. the man accused of shooting 18-year-old bianca roberson in a road raid incident will face a judge on july 13. 28-year-old david desper turned himself in early sunday morning. police are asking anyone who knows anything about desper to contact them. they want to know about his habits and where he worked. desper lives in treanor but his red pickup truck was found in glen mills. philadelphia police are looking for three armed suspects who robbed a mcdonald's. they walked into the restaurant at 56th and vine in west philadelphia at 4:30 this morning and demanded money. two workers suffered minor injuries. still unclear how much cash the suspects made off with. authorities have offered a $10,000 reward in hopes of nabbing those responsible for anti-semitic vandalism in ocean county. a banner containing an ethnic slur was left on a holocaust

"action news" reporter annie mccormick in olde city for the welcome america block party. hi, annie. >> reporter: hi, rick and we're actually just listening to some musical performances from some broadway performers. this musical act has been going on all day. it started at noon today with an annual block party. >> ♪ >> reporter: on the eve of america's birthday the celebration around independence hall began early packing tourists on independence mall. a wide arrange of musical acts took to one of two stages even in the searing heat people watched in the grass, some surrendered to the shade.

>> it's nice to be down here where a lot of stuff happened and we'll be a part of it and we're enjoying ourselves. >> we didn't expect to see this right now. we just wanted to come see the liberty bell and we were surprised by the events going on. >> reporter: hector lopez and his family visiting from texas wanted to see iconic pieces of history and stumbled upon the city's party. philadelphia's historic district block party is now an annual event with food trucks from across the city including cool treats for this hot july day. >> it's great and just being here my hat, we brought water with us. we're all set. >> reporter: music is dominating entertainment today and showing off some of what philadelphia has to offer. broadway performers showcased acts coming to the kimmel center for the 2017-2018 season. but it's the philly pops that draw a crowd annually for their free independence weekend concert played directly in front of independence hall. the faithful know to come

>> meteorologist cecily tynan is here now with a closer look at tomorrow it's holiday. >> all in all looking pretty nice. it's been a hot weekend. action cam taking a look in fairmount park where a lot of people went out earl to get some exercise. rick, i know you were there, you went out early. there he is in the background. we're in the 90's right now. if you're heading out and about, i want to stress it will be a pretty warm evening. temperatures will be holding in the 80's until the sun sets. once the sun sets we will be dropping down into the 70's gradually. so, it's going to be a warm night. you step outside right now, temperatures are in the 90's but we will be dropping back into the 80's tomorrow and the fourth of july fireworks forecast the possibility of an isolated thundershower. i want to stress isolated. most areas will be rain free. at 8 o'clock 80 degrees, by 11 o'clock 75 degrees so looking pretty nice for the fourth of july. let's take a look. satellite and action radar showing we have -- or actually talk about temperatures first of all. philadelphia currently holding at 90 degrees t our high today 91. another hot day. allentown 84. wilmington 88. cape may with that ocean temperature at 65 degrees, quite a bit cooler, currently 79. now satellite and action radar slowing we have a very weak frontal boundary that's pushing down from the north and you can see we have an isolated shower.

it's over berks county. ironically about 15 minutes ago it was raining in dryville. dryville. and it was wet. now we've got that shower right north of here for no thunder or lightning with this, it's crossing route 100, very isolated. that's the system that will be to the south tomorrow. so, tonight isolated shower possible northwest. we're getting it right now. otherwise partly cloudy. it will be a warm night. 73 degrees in philadelphia, allentown 66, cape may 69 and wilmington 70 degrees. future tracker showing tomorrow morning 10 o'clock, mostly sunny skies, a few fair weather clouds here and there but as we head into the afternoon, with this front sinking through could get a few pop-ups. i want to stress not all that widespread. a few more into the evening. this is showing perhaps a thunderstorm over chester county but every model run shows it a different area so it's hard to predict exactly where but there will be a few isolated pop-ups. if you're on the beaches tomorrow, it will be a windy day and with that wind off the

ocean, ocean temperature 65, it will be a little bit on the cool side. take the sweatshirts. beach haven 76, ocean city 77. rehoboth 79 and bethany beach 80 degrees. pretty nice dawson the shore shore -- down the shore with a low risk of rip currents. nice weather for the fourth. 88 degrees. little bit on the humid side but not oppressive. isolated shower or thunderstorm late in the day. behind that system on wednesday it's partly sunny, lower humidity, seasonably warm, 86 degrees. 86 on thursday. slightly more humid with a possibility of a shower or thunderstorm. friday is when it gets hot. it gets humid. dewpoints around 70 so pretty oppressive. 90 degrees. a front will bring us showers and thunderstorms late in the y. still a chance of a thunderstorm lingering on saturday. otherwise partly sunny, 87. on sunday, a breath of fresh air. 85 degrees, low humidity, really gorgeous day and monday mostly sunny with a high of 87 degrees. association so the fourth of july can't completely take out
