police are searching for the person who left a noose in center city. but the big story on "action news" tonight, the long awaited meeting between president trump and russian president vladimir putin. they must have had a lot to talk about because while it was scheduled for 35 minutes, they went on for two hours 16 minutes. this was their firsthand shake when they met for the first time earlier in the day at the g20 summit but all eyes were on the pair when they sat down for their face-to-face meeting. according to secretary of state rex tillerson, trump began by pressing putin on the alleged russian interference in the presidential election. putin denied involvement and asked for proof. trump dropped the issue and moved on to other things. but according to russian foreign minister sergei lavrov who was with tillerson in the room, trump accepted putin's denial that he heard and accepted putin's statements.

the two leaders spent much of their time talking about syria. word is they agreed along with jordan to a ceasefire in southwest syria. tillerson said trump and putin shared positive chemistry, perhaps explaining why their meeting went on for so long. world news with david muir will have team coverage of the meeting between presidents putin and trump and more on the protests at the g20. that is tonight at 6:30 right after "action news." back in this area philadelphia police are investigating the discovery of a noose in a tree. the noose was found outside graduate hospital at 18th and lombard just before 10 o'clock this morning. live at that location is "action news" reporter wendy saltzman. wendy what are police saying about all of this. >> reporter: jim, police are looking at this as a possible hate crime. that noose was hung in this tree and while they say there is no specific target that they know of yet they are considering this a very public

message of hate. >> people are crazy and it's really serious. >> reporter: a noose hanging in a tree in center city is the second time in a week the symbol of racism has surfaced in the city of brotherly love. >> in this case this is something we would assume the worst until we can figure out what it actually is. >> reporter: the noose was found this morning at 18th and lombard next to penn medicine. police are trying to determine if it was a personal threat, a prank or a larger public statement. >> that being so publically done, it lends itself to believe that whoever did it wanted a lot of people to see it. >> reporter: while police scour evidence looking for witnesses, video and processing the actual noose, area residents were shaken and disturbed by what the mayor is calling an appalling act. >> nothing funny about that. it's not a joke. serious matter. >> reporter: the first noose was discovered a week ago at the u.s. mint in center city. an employee there is accused of taking a rope from coin bag and tying it into a noose and placing it on a black

employee's chair. that employee has been placed on administrative leave with the treasury saying they have zero tolerance for that kind of misconduct. >> african-american i know what a lynch -- i know what a noose represents in this country. >> reporter: councilman kenyatta johnson says this is a clear act of ethnic intimidation that will not be tolerated. >> i believe it's intentional. lynching comes from an act of hatred and racism. >> reporter: police are considering the possibility this may have been a prank they're now searching for who did it and why. >> it could be something related to hate speech or hateful intentions and that's why we're not treating it as something benign. >> reporter: this could be considered a hate crime if, in fact it was targeted. now, the mayor released a statement saying that there is no room for these symbols of violence in philadelphia that members of the city here and visitors shouldn't have to see it. he is urging anybody with information to come forward and speak with police. live in center city, i'm wendy saltzman channel6 "action news."

>> thank you wendy. mourners arrived at saint paul's baptist church in west chester this morning for the funeral of bianca nicole roberson. the 18-year-old was killed in an apparent road rage shooting in west goshen last week. it's estimated that 800 people showed up to pay their respects to the recent high school graduate. >> our hearts really cry for them, for their family because they was looking so forward to her going to college. and now they doing a funeral. >> police say roberson was shot by a man who was driving a red pickup truck on route 100. 28-year-old david desper was arrested and charged with murder. we are learning about the serious accident late yesterday when a passenger jumped off a moving septa train in southwest philadelphia. he is still in the hospital tonight. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live at the angora station with that story. bob. >> reporter: jim, luckily there was medical staff aboard this train. again, a man jumped off of it,

something you should never even consider doing. again, it happened behind us here down on the tracks at the angora station 5 o'clock yesterday. tonight he's in the hospital in bad shape. >> it was a gentleman half on the tracks, half on the sidewalk unconscious. >> reporter: it was the unthinkable, 5:00 p.m. yesterday, man jumps from the septa train at the angora station near 58th and baltimore avenue. middletown township assistant fire chief mark kirkgaser was on board. he says luckily he wasn't the only one who sprung into action. >> two nurses a pediatrician. i got out as well. we attempted to make sure he was first alive. he was reacting as somebody would with a typically with a brain injury so he was combative. >> reporter: today after an investigation, septa officials confirm the victim jumped off the train. he severely injured his head. >> fell backwards struck his head. went to the hospital with some pretty serious injuries. >> reporter: but why? according to kirkgaser he thinks the victim was from out of town trying to get to the airport but realized he was on

the wrong train. >> when we looked at his phone to try and get more information his boarding pass was there for a flight to chicago at 8 o'clock. >> reporter: now septa officials say this likely could have been avoided had this man not tried to jump off a moving train. so today the message is simple. don't ever, ever try to get on or off a moving train. after the victim was that stabilized by the volunteers at the scene he was rushed to penn presbyterian hospital. he's hurt bad. but kirkgaser says without the help at the scene it could have ended up worse and he wants to thank everyone for what they did. >> i may see them on the train again sometime soon but until that point i wish them a lot of luck and i thank them for the great work that they did. >> reporter: incredible work those people d a huge thank you to those first responders. at this point no word on the victim's condition. reporting live in southwest philadelphia, bob brooks, channel6 "action news." jim. >> bob, thank you. montgomery county authorities are now pleading for information about the murder of 16-year-old jordan scott. he was shot to death last

night on the 600 block of chain street in norristown. a second teenager, a 17-year-old, was also shot at that location. he was rushed to the hospital for treatment. no arrests have yet been made. as expected, some heavy rain came through here this morning. this was the scene in center city philadelphia but we won't see a break in our high humidity until tomorrow. let's look ahead with meteorologist cecily tynan at the "action news" big board. cecily. >> and jim, after that rainy morning with some of that rain heavy enough to cause that flooding across the lehigh valley we're getting a break in the action but double scan live showing stormy weather out to the west. the larger complex of storms is moving into west virginia with severe weather. that is going to be missing us to the south. what i'm tracking is a smaller cluster of some heavy downpours moving through central pennsylvania right now it's near harrisburg, it's tracking to the east and this likely will survive the trip over the mountains and will bring us some scattered showers and downpours this

evening. so, this is what to expect between about 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock tonight, a broken line of storms. that means not everyone will get them. those who do, though, could see some locally gusty winds, some brief heavy downpours and it does stay muggy tonight. dewpoints in the mid 60's to around 70 and it's pretty warm out there. yesterday we were stuck in the 70's. 75 degrees. right now it's 85 degrees in philadelphia, washington, d.c. it's 90 and you can feel the moisture in the air. the dewpoint is 66 degrees but i am tracking a refreshing change for the second half of the weekend. i'll explain in the accuweather 7-day forecast. jim. >> thank you, cecily. governor christie's infamous day at the beach has inspired a new proposal in new jersey. the legislation introduced today would allow taxpayers to rent the house that is now reserved for the governor on island beach state park. the bill would also prevent any governor from using the beach house during any future government shutdown.

christie was caught lounging at the park on sunday after ordering it closed to the public. we want to alert septa riders of an upcoming change. beginning monday many train passengers will need to have their tickets inspected and punched before entering the train platform. the new fare validation procedures will apply to trains running between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. monday through friday at temple jefferson suburban 30th street and university city stations. coming up on "action news" tonight, a pickup truck rampage in wilmington. the damage police say one driver caused to a dozen parked cars. and the flyers open their development camp in south jersey. but the team's top prospect is missing from the ice. we'll have that story and much more when "action news" continues.

take a fresh look at giant's produce prices. >> ♪ >> we have new information tonight about a man found dead in newark, delaware. police now say he was the victim of a hit-and-run. his body was found on the 1100 block of elkton road near the american spirit federal credit union at 10 o'clock this morning. police say the driver took off and remains at large. in wilmington at least a dozen cars including a $100,000 maserati were sitting ducks for a rampaging truck last night on west 14th street. it looks like a battleground. "action news" reporter vernon odom has the latest on this. >> it was devastating. never seen such a thing ever in my life.

>> reporter: jamaal called police after midnight when he saw this ford 150 truck barreling along west 14th street ramming parked vehicles like nobody's business. it woke kelvin edwards up and he ran to the window just in time to see the truck blasting his yukon. >> it wasn't a sideswipe type issue. it was full blown ramming backing up, ramming, accelerating, pushing the cars from the street onto the sidewalk. >> really quickly. it was like three minutes. at that moment the guy was actually right here ramming the last car it was a maserati car. >> reporter: the maserati is a $100,000 sports car. its owner believes it was totaled. when police arrived witnesses say the truck was still slamming into vehicles along the 200 and 300 blocks of west 14th. >> the guy was still, you know, hitting the gas. i don't know, he was saying somebody's following me. >> reporter: the suspect is this man identified by police

as 30-year-old nicholas massi. police cuffed him and took him away but before police arrived witnesses say he was still out of control. with dozens of victims and the curious outside, massi continued his rampage. >> thank god that nobody was hurt. >> yeah. >> that was the first thing. i was afraid that the guy -- 'cause when he was doing what he was doing people were outside already so i was afraid he was starting to back up and that way could hit us all. >> reporter: to the dismay of many tonight, massi has been released from police custody. he faces, however, multiple charges including reckless endangering, leaving the scene and driving without insurance. i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." in wilmington, delaware. >> much better news here. philadbundance is making sure that kids in need don't go hungry this summer. 40,000 pounds of fresh produce arrived today at christ lutheran community church in upper darby one of several locations served by philadbundance year round.

every friday morning families can get free fruits and vegetables at the church. now that school is out, some 300,000 children don't have access to free school breakfast and lunches. well, today the huge donation is courtesy of the tri-state toyota dealers association. mcdonald's cashier maria torres was greeted with a giant check as she arrived to work. the recent cedar creek high school graduate won a $5,000 scholarship from ronald mcdonald house charities. she plans to use the none further her education. she plans to attend stockton university in the fall. >> yeah, i was pretty surprised. i thought you a just going into work. i got money instead. it was pretty cool. >> cool indeed. torres was named mcdonald's crew person of the year in the philadelphia region. she beat out 25,000 other applicants to win that title.

>> flyers young project on the ice today. >> got a glimpse of what they have in store for us. hockey in july we'll take it. flyers getting a good look at their future. today they opened their developmental camp but as jeff skversky explains their top prospect was missing from the ice. >> reporter: while the flyers prospects are getting a shot to live their dream this weekend at flyers development camp nolan patrick is forced to watch behind the glass. the second overall pick in last month's draft is sidelined recovering from sports hernia surgery. but patrick doesn't believe this will hurt his chances of making the team. >> it's evaluation camp and they made that clear. we'll work on skills and developing and obviously i'll have to put in a little more work than other players if they're asked to come back from injury and i'm ready to do that so i'm going to do everything i can to make the team. >> reporter: patrick plans to get back on the ice for the first time as a flyer next week and to get ahead of ourselves as you can imagine he's dreaming of hopefully

suiting up for the philadelphia flyers as a 19-year-old rookie come the fall. >> i think every kid growing you want to play in the nhl. that was my goal since i was super young. i don't set too many goals for myself but three years ago i wanted to play in the nhl my first year eligible. that's what i'm trying to do. >> reporter: both his dad and uncle played in the nhl and when he was 14 years old flyers captain claude giroux was his hockey coach during a camp in canada. what does patrick think of claude as a coach. >> we lost so i don't know. [laughter] >> reporter: all jokes aside, giroux and the flyers plan to coach him up and get him ready for training camp. jeff skversky, channel6 "action news". >> to baseball the phillies host the padres tonight. it's the final series before the all-star break. on a separate note the trade deadline is 24 days away. who knows what this team will look like then. >> on the back of your mind you always have to keep in mind that this whole roster might be different after the trading deadline.

so, definitely on the muggy side tonight and sky6 taking a look, really a gorgeous looking shot, the center city skyline seeing blue skies. some fair weather cumulus clouds out there and it was nice to see some of that sunshine this afternoon after the morning rain. i actually took this shot during a run. i was so excited to see the sun. and we did get that sunshine by about 1 o'clock in philadelphia. a little bit later along the shore and it was a sweaty run. the reason why, dewpoints. it is muggy out there. philadelphia currently the dewpoint 66 degrees so that's definitely on the mug seaside. millville dover dewpoints in the 70's. you can feel that moisture in the air and the dewpoint tomorrow morning when you wake up will also be pretty high. it will be about 67 degrees but then the dewpoints dropping through the day and sunday this is the day it will feel really nice. dewpoints in the 50's and then dewpoints will be rising as we head into next week. so, right now the heat index, it definitely feels like summer out there. currently in philadelphia, the

heat index is 87 degrees. the high today 86. trenton feels like 86 degrees. in cape may, it feels like 87 and in dover, it's a little bit overdone but the feels like temps in the 90's with the combination of the temperature and the humidity. satellite and radar showing right now we're in the clear. that's a cluster of storms i'm tracking moving east at about 30 miles per hour so right now it's just starting to cross 322, soelsdorf will be hit by this. gusty winds rolling through 9 o'clock, moving through the i-95 corridor. could cause a accomplish of a problem with the phillies game at the end of the game and heading towards the coast at 10 o'clock. tomorrow it will be warm, west wind 12 to 20 miles per hour so a breezy day. that is a land breeze not a sea breeze at the shore and temperatures rising up to about 87 degrees by 3 o'clock
