i'm monica malpass. the big story tonight is the fifth heat wave of the year in the books with no sign of winding down as we approach the weekend. adam joseph has the alert. >> 95-degrees in philadelphia after yesterday's high of 96. tuesday, 91. you need three day in a row consecutively to call it a heatwave. we are there at this point, heat waive number five of the year. heat warnings ongoing throughout the night tonight and tomorrow. they don't go down until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow evening. it's the counties along i-95. that's where you feel the heat index near 100-degrees tomorrow afternoon. severe thunderstorm watch in effect this evening. north of philadelphia, you see the storms that pushed out of the mountains near scranton and poconos, lehigh valley, mercer county, trenton and off the

coast. no storms, but lingering clouds respect harrisburg, baltimore across philadelphia to the shore. future tracker, feels like 96 in philadelphia tomorrow. 102 in charleston. for the weekend saturday, feeling like 96 in philadelphia. at that point, you start to see the core of the heat being pushed down to the south. you see 80s coming in from the north and west. there is a transition that the heatwave will end in the seven-day forecast. we'll let you know when that is, monica. there are stormy times when we get there. all of the details in accuweather. >> philadelphia declared after heat health emergency this afternoon continuing through 11:00 p.m. tomorrow. that order activates several programs, including cooling centers at the library branch and act vaights o activation of. >> as the extreme heat continues

in the office. she tells "action news" she never imagined returning as district attorney even on an interim basis. >> i'm humbled and honored. it's something i couldn't imagine or conceive of. >> that is kelly hodge after being elected in the first judicial district. this to fill the remaining term of disgraced d.a. seth williams. her first priority? >> to restore faith in the community in the office and looking to the transition that will take place in the next few months. >> hodge started in 1987 as a public defender in richmond defender. she was appointed as philadelphia's safe school advocate in 2011 by governor tom corbitt. currently, she's in private practice with the law firm in blue bell. >> i enjoyed the time there. i'm happy to do this for the timeframe i have.

north. you see cooler temperatures where it rained. it's blazing hot. 11:00 at night, 93 wilmington and 93 at the atlantic citthered through. we are dealing with high cloud cover lingering around here. friday, heat indexes 100-degrees with air temperatures 90s in the afternoon. it feels like 90, 9:00 in the morning. saturday, scatter downpours in the morning. things fire up during the day and especially afternoon. heavy hitters coming through. we repeat that as we get to sunday. down at the shore, 89, hot but dry. evening storms and a hot day saturday, and sunday, 87-degrees, moderate risk of rip currents in the ocean water.
