firefighters are battling a forest fire in south jersey and the smoke can be seen for miles. and a visit from the u.s. attorney general is sparking protest in old city, philadelphia. and the big story on "action news" is an accuweather alert. it's muggy and uncomfortable outside as we look at the ben franklin parkway from sky 6 hd an excessive heat warn remains in effect until 8:00 tonight. david murphy is in the weather center with a first check of your friday forecast. >> it's going to be a hot one and stay that way all the way today. you see the excessive heat warning is in effect until 8:00 tonight and it's in the center portion of the region and could feel as hot as 105 at times this afternoon. for now satellite is showing auto i mix of clouds and sun and fairly bright out there. there is rain popping in from the west and ohio and southwestern, pennsylvania, that is not an issue for us today. that will change tomorrow. temperatures right now, really

shooting up there at the noon hour we are already at 90 degrees in philadelphia. just as accuweather called. 90 in wilmington and 89 at the airport in atlantic city. and not quite so bad in cape may way current temperature of 85. 94 by 2:00 and your high is 95 and we'll hit that around 3:30, 3:40 and still in the low 90s in philadelphia as late as 8:00. we'll be back to the mid-80s by 10:00 and heat index values again up over 100 degrees. a code orange ozone action day. that includes young kids and senior citizens and everyone suffering from heart and lung conditions including asthma. from you in the risk categories it's one more reason to stay indoors this afternoon. i'll have the heat index values for the city of philadelphia and

in a city with big buildings and limited green space it gets hotter that is why the philadelphia corporation for aging is keeping the line open until 8:00 tonight. pete gallagher told us an alarming fact. in weather like this senior citizens may not know they are having an issue. >> they may have a medical condition that they don't deal well with the heat. >> if you know a senior citizen check in on them. >> there are homes in philadelphia that hold the heat for hours and hours. >> take a cool bath or shower and wear light clothes and light activity. this time of the day you missed your opportunity to work out in the morning. >> and we spoke with carmelo and her brother, they are both over 90, and their air conditioning

wheelchair just returned home with his 51-year-old caretaker when two men with gun as approach approached. i paid no attention and then laid down. this happened on the 3300 block of north brad street before midnight where the victim lives with his mother, sister and her father children. the caretaker helped the man up the front steps into the house. >> the 36-year-old wheelchair bound victim was struggling to keep the door closed when one purpose traitor fired at least one shot. >> the 36-year-old man fell out of his wheelchair and was bleeding from his head, neck and chest and the caretaker was struck in his back and leg and on the ground outside when police arrived. the caretaker was taken to the hospital in stable condition and the other man was pronounced dead on the scene.

>> the perpetrator two males medium build and one with a beard and both wearing dark colored possibly black hooded sweatshirt and seen running south on the 3300 block of graph street. >> his mother and sister and her children were upstairs when this was going on. they heard the commotion but did not see anything and were not injured in all of this. >> a funeral mass is held today for another victim of the bucks county murdered. the 19-year-old jimmy patrick was a classmate of cosmo dinardo. attorney general, jeff sessions is in philadelphia this hour talking about efforts to combat violent crime. he is currently addressing members of law enforcement in

meteorologist, david murphy, is here now with a closer look at the forecast. including our favorite flowers. >> i can't wait. stormtracker 6 live double scan right now shows you we are high and dry across the region. a green blip here and there, nothing but that virga and ground clutter we get on radar. as we look at flowers in center city they are lilys. day lilys i think. casablanca we were discussing that my wife has those. these are beautiful day lilys and no matter what you call them they are looking good. and not wilting. they must have a lot of water in

the ground. because it's wilting weather. 95 in philadelphia and the dew point sagged to 67 and we have technically below the threshold for oppressive humidity and the dew points even this high it is going to be a day for cool drinks and lots of breaks and staying inside. winds from the west northwest at 5 miles per hour. ocean temperature 71 and plenty of other neighborhoods that have the dew points in the 70 degree range and talk temperatures in the region, 86 in allentown and 88 in reading and we have hit 90 in philadelphia and wilmington and cape may easing behind at 86 degrees, and even in cape may, look how much of an impact the high humidity is having. the temperature is 86 and the heat index making it feel like 96 and this morning on the broadcast. why the heat index values could go as high as 5 to 10 degrees

above the temperature than is what it is in cape may. 93 in philadelphia and 95 in wilmington and again the heat and humidity combo is with us today and the rest of the weekend as well. today is the intense day. cloud cover out there mixing with sunshine and rain to the west will not be an issue today. and we'll talk about that tomorrow. and lehigh valley hot and humid and oppressive with heat index views in the mid up toer 90s. upper 80s is where we stop along the jersey coast. for those of you thinking of swimming if the ocean water. really high humidity, you want to hydrate on the beaches today. today in philadelphia. oppressive and a high of 95 degrees and heat index values get up to 100 or so. and some going higher than that. it's going be muggy, 89 degrees

at 7:00 and 79 at 8:00 bring along cool drinks if that are where you are going. partly cloudy and humid there. as we take a look at saturday a sprinkle our shower or thunderstorm. but the period is late at night after 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 you are looking at showers and thunderstorms that could role through and produce heavy downpours and gusty winds. 95 is today's high and we have the red bar up there because of the excessive heat warning and you want to hydrate today and take it easy, for the weekend low 90s on saturday and sunday and each day could feature a thunderstorm at times and could be a strong storm especially saturday night and we die down a bit on sunday and still sticky and monday humid and 90 and later next week, tuesday, wednesday and thursday we are back in the 80s. >> dog days of summer. >> yes. >> thank you. we want to see how you at home are coping with the heat
